Hotel had bacteria in the water and could not shower

They sent out a letter 2 hours prior to check-in to tell us about a well known water issue they were having. In the email, they said they've known about this issue for a while yet they're still taking reservations! The bacteria (called legionella) when breathed in can cause Legionaires disease. Not only is the city of Elizabeth Health dept aware of this but the hotel is deceiving people into booking and upon check-in asking if you want to cancel. To make matters worst it seems the hotels surrounding were all booked due to people fleeing this contaminated hotel. The Marriott Renaissance should be shut down until they can fix their contaminated water problem. 0/5 stars, would NOT recommend!

Can’t use shower due to water contamination

This hotel has become extremely dated. While renovations have been made to the lobby and gym, the restaurant and hotel rooms need serious upgrading. It reminds me of the Wyndham before it became a Renaissance. The bathrooms are peeling and had used amenities in my room that should have been sealed.

Tired property with water safety issues! Can’t believe they got a Renaissance flag. I worked in sales and marketing for them before Marriot takeover!

I loved our experience, everything was clean. I took the precautions the hotel advised with no taking showers just baths. Besides that everything was up to par. Awesome customer service.

When we checked in they told us not to use the showers, the water system was being checked for legionnaires disease! But we could take a bath as long as we ran the water carefully!

Nice hotel the amenities were good the room was good, staff was very friendly certainly recommend this hotel and will stay there again in the future.

We stayed overnight. Ate at the only restaurant there, it was okay. The staff was nice and friendly. Our room safe didn’t work and there’s was no regular coffee in our room. Which both problems were fixed.

A little run down in the lobby and hallways, and definitely a damp musty smell in the much of the facility. The rooms are clean but outdated. Beds are comfortable. Breakfast is a standard basic buffet. Overall it’s a place to sleep before you catch a flight.

The double full bed is small for 3 persons. Cannot connect WI-FI.

The positive of this property was the fact that they offer shuttle service and the staff was great. For the price I felt the property was not as nice as some of the competitors.

Very rundown and old property. Room and bathroom in very poor condition. A/C unit extremely noisy. Safe broken. All furniture scratched, chipped. Needs urgent restoration!!

I liked the convenience of the property. I didn't like the amount of time it took to get a van from the airport to the hotel.

Pretty standard airport hotel. The Saturday evening we were there, the place felt a little old and tired. We didn't notice anything specially bad or specially good.

We had to stay near airport while we had a 24 hour wait until our rescheduled flight after flights canceled in a doubtful weather delay. Weather came and went quickly so United used this as an excuse to cancel our flight. We were hot, tired and exausted after international travel. The Hotel was perfect for a good shower and good night sleep. The room was great, but a second room offered was not, it was small and anyone in parking lot could see-so we switched back to first that had a iffy lock- with help from night housekeeper we were able to manuever. Make sure to get a room high, and accessible room was larger. Ask for more towels, we were only given enough for 1 person. The phone rings and rings, so go down and ask if you need anything. The food delivery was good, but they do not offer breakfast or lunch delivery, so you will have to door dash if you wish to stay through a late check out through breakfast to do work in your room. If flying United out of A, the new United lounge there is excellent.

This property is probably the worst Hotel I’ve ever stayed in. It is dilapidated and rundown and dirty. No one seems to know how to run the restaurant or bar, which was completely shortstaffed. No remedies to any problems were offered after complaints were made. This hotel is embarrassment to the Marriott/Bonvoy brand.
