Superb position in middle of town but overpriced.
Room and bathroom All extremely clean and comfortable but devoid of any individuality with no decorations.
Charles Dickens stayed here.

Nice spot, pricey , good location.

A fabulous, relaxing stay in a gorgeous property. Very enjoyable. Delicious meal enjoyed at The Eaterie also with very friendly and attentive staff.

Excellent location

Lovely hotel albeit very busy. Breakfast was very slow. Waited 20 minutes before being served and another table that arrived after us had their order arrive before us! Service elsewhere was excellent.!
4.3
Service was wonderful. We felt very welcome and well looked after.
4.3
Very nice hotel, central and couldn’t be better situated.
The hotel combines an historic building with modern amenities.
The dining room is excellent, worth booking dinner. Breakfast wasn’t bad but lacked panache. For a three night stay it got a bit repetitive.
The bed was a bit soft and I don’t like rooms that have windows that cannot be opened, it made the room very stuffy. Bedside lights were hopeless for reading but looked beautiful…

Very good staff, friendly and helpful. Room over priced for size

It was an amazingly large room lounge bedroom stunning bathroom and dressing room great view over the archway to the park

Everything was wonderful, hotel, staff and area. Very beautiful.

A super stay in a wonderful market town. Central location and a characterful building. Staff were fantastic.

Friendly staff, very clean, location

We always enjoy our time at the Angel hotel; the staff are top notch and the bar and restaurant high quality. We particularly appreciate the valet parking which makes the experience feel 5*.

This was my third stay at The Angel....love the hotel and the position is great. With the free parking and being in centre of town it is perfect. Love the shops nearby too but a special shout out goes to Steve the incredible cheerful concierge who went out of his way to help and seemed to be juggling several things at once incredibly effectively. It was a Bank Holiday weekend and so the hotel was very busy.
4.3
Reception were not on top of things. I made a booking of two rooms and used my credit card as a guarantee. I informed the lady at the reception that only one room should be booked on my card and so did my colleague. However, they still charged both rooms to my credit card!
4.3
Perfect location as you can walk to everywhere so no need to use a car.
The hotel is a lovely old historic building, the rooms are fairly well appointed, but a little dated, a coat of paint wouldn’t go amiss. Quite expensive considering the condition, but the location makes up for it. For the price it would be nice to have breakfast included

This is a very old building with lots of quirks. Difficult to rate ecofriendliness when so old. But that is its charm.
We only stayed the one night.
Staff, all of them, were clearly trained from top down to care and attend.
Restaurant was busy pre-christmas yet staff remained friendly and helpful under pressure, although they did need reminding to bring things at times and some parts of the dishes were not well cooked - I am judging to a high standard as the menu was high class. They never got irritated when reminded and genuinely asked for comments on the food and took interest in comments.
Overall we are encouraged to return some time for a longer stay.

The room was on the first floor which made it extremely noisy

I wanted to love this hotel but didn't. Parking was OK, we managed to get a space in the free car park. Check-in was efficient but not overly warm or welcoming. The room was tired and the bed was very hard. Breakfast is extra which is a p/take as the hotel is expensive. We have stayed in much better, much cheaper.
Check-out again was efficient, but a smile would have been nice or if we had been asked how our stay was. We came away with the impression they thought we were lucky to have stayed there. Not that they were happy to host us and have our business. We will not be staying again, which is a shame as the location was lovely and the bar areas are very nice.
Disappointed!!!
4.3
Very disappointed with our room which did not have not up to the standard for a four star hotel

Very run down

This is an exceptional hotel, in more ways than can be reasonably summarised in Expedia feedback.
If you are intending to visit Bury St Edmunds, stay here. You will not be disappointed.
4.3
Room luxurious and spacious but no dressing table with mirror for make up / hair styling. No full length mirror. No shelf in the bathroom near the washbasin to perch a toilet bag. Lovely comfortable bed though!
4.3
Beautiful hotel and lovely staff. Convinient location as near lots of shops, restaraunts, cinemeas ect... beautiful scenery too.
4.3
It was a very busy weekend at the hotel and they appeared to have guests staying who were attending at least two weddings! Despite this service was great from the reception and concierge. The room was lovely and had recently been refurbished to a very good standard.
The only slight negative was that despite three of us talking to restaurant staff about arranging a table for 9 for breakfast, this wasn’t arranged and we ended up sitting in the lounge rather than the restaurant, but at least we were all able to sit together.
The breakfast was a little inconsistent, plates had items missing, but all corrected quickly. This was probably due to a full hotel and most guests having a late breakfast after a night of celebrating.
Fabio was the star of the stay !

Lovely old building. Brilliant staff. Bar was buzzing. Could do with more electric sockets in the room. Definitely going back
4.3
Beautiful location, all facilities were very good indeed, no complaints whatsover.
The thing that stood out to me though, was the level of training that the staff have obviously undertaken, impeccable, professional and welcoming.
If you stay in this area and chose anywhere other than the Angel Hotel, you have downgraded.
Highly recommended.

A lovely hotel in a really central location for exploring the delights of Bury St Edmunds. Within easy walking distance of historial attractions, shopping and multiple dining options.
4.3
Lovely place to stay. But they really need to work on there breakfasts. The chef doesn't know how to cook poached eggs or even scrambled eggs . Both of us had the full English and both were very satisfactory. Other than that it was a lovely place to stay and maybe most of the menu was great.
4.3
We loved the charm of the property. Our room was generous and large. The property was so close to the Abbey ruins and walkable shopping and eateries.
4.3
As always a lovely stay at the angel, food amazing & staff so friendly & helpful!
4.3
All good not a single problem 😃
4.3
The bars and restaurants are lovely, nicely decorated but the flooring around the hotel stairs and corridors is shabby and frayed. The bedroom fur note is tired, shabby carpets, a cracked toilet, scuffed walls and scruffy curtains. The blinds couldn’t have been cleaned for weeks! The rooms are in need of refurbishment. The main bars and restaurants are well decorated and great staff but the other areas let this hotel down.

Lovely stay at the angel food and staff excellent

The property sits across from the lovely abbey garden. The location in the village is nice. There are cute tea mugs in the rooms. The porter was cheerful. The chips/fries were delicious. After that, there is nothing about this property I can get excited about.
We checked out a night early because the room was so horrible. The clerk didn't seem to care or pay attention that we were leaving a night early. The hotel photographs online are very nice. However, we must have gotten a room they never bothered with, it was a total disappointment. The shades of purple, plastic fixtures were tacky and cheap. The couch was disgusting and stained. The carpet was threadbare. The walls were cracked and the wallpaper so filthy you could see where previous items had hung. There were no face cloths, the shower was either dirty or damaged and had the water pressure of a teaspoon. While the food was presented well, it was under seasoned. When we asked for ketchup we were brought a tablespoon's worth for the table. The hostess was a poor example of hospitable. We were sat at a table close to the exterior door that kept opening and closing. We asked to be sat at a different table at the far end of the dining room and were told we could only have that for 40 minutes. It was not reserved. The excuse given was that it might be used as part of a rally for possible guests. The lobby/restaurant/tea room area are all delightfully decorated but sadly a service and food let down.

Valet driver goes the extra mile to make you feel relaxed

Comfortable room, lounge and bar a nice place to meet friends.
Our one issue was the shower in our bathroom… the water would surge VERY hot every few seconds. We never figured out how to keep it an even temperature. Ouch!
4.3
Very welcoming and personable.
Lovely hotel retaining its charm and centrally l9cated
4.3
Overall the the stay was ok the staff where very friendly and helpful and parking was great. However was a little disappointed at the quality of the room for the cost per night expected a lot nicer room. Room looked dated the blind on the window was sun faded and the cupboard doors would not close correctly and the room furniture generally tired. Also when walking through the hotel found the carpets thread bare on stairs and around the lift area and in places the wall paper was coming off the walls not really what I would like to find in a expensive four star hotel.

It’s been 3 years since my last visit to Angel’s. I am so please to see the renovation they have done during pandemic. Friendly staffs as usual always provide good service and prompt response. No other hotel I will consider when coming to nearby area.
