This place was an absolute gem, as were the hosts. I felt like I'd come home. The property is stunning with mountain views and a duck pond. The room was lovely. The common area was cozy and a wonderful place to unwind. I only wish I stayed longer.

So quaint and secluded. A mini oasis. Mel was amazing. Hostess with the most-est. She suggested we do an early breakfast to get to Hooker Valley Trail early and she was so right for that! Rooms were immaculate. Refreshments and breakfast were immaculate. I wish we stayed more than 1 night.

So lovely, neat, tidy place with wonderful scenery from bedside and warm hospitality from Mel. It was heavenly place, can see so many stars with bare eyes and ducks are swimming in pond while having breakfast prepared lovingly by Mel. Must visit this place when visit Twizle.

Not recommended for couple as lacks privacy nor families as too small! Only one long dining table for 10 and wonder how it qualifies as a lodge! Only 5 rooms and breakfast from 8 am to 9 am!!! No fridge nor even kettle plus! Checkout is at 10 am and a loud knock on the door to confirm; hardly hospitable act let alone service. Over priced at NZ$500 per nite! Expedia needs to update.

Amazing lodge and lovely hosts. Highly recommend staying here. We stayed for 3 nights and the proximity to Mt Cook area was excellent (about 45 mins).
The lodge was peaceful and included a lovely breakfast. Plenty of space to relax in the large lounge room in the lodge.
There are a number of local places to eat dinner at (a short drive away).

We only stayed one night but would have liked to stay longer. A very beautiful property, very spacious and wonderful hosts. The view of the stars at night in a specially prepared area was fantastic. the cooked breakfast in the morning was delicious. Also wine and beverages available at any time.

Great accommodation close to Twizel. Excellent breakfast - all home made.
Rooms were spacious and bed extremely comfortable.
Bathroom furniture could do with a refurb.
The outstanding feature were the positive energies of the hosts (Libby and Geoff). Libby was so caring for all her guests and ensuring that they were maximising their experience of the area - nothing was too much trouble for her to try and organise or to suggest.

Jo and Peter, by their fantastic, hospitality, made part of their family. They guided us to all the great activities and dining in the neighborhood, but still made our stay quiet and relaxing. Our only regret was that we did not plan to stay much, much longer. There was so much more we could have done and we do hope to return to do so.
Do not shut the curtains in your room. The remoteness of the Matuka lends great privacy while allowing great views into nature. On dark nights, whilst well blanketed on a chaise in the garden, enjoy the Southern Cross and Milky Way without the tour crowds. The Matuka is world class luxury in a very quiet, refined, relaxing way>

Matuka is an absolute dream. From the scenery to the adorable town of Twizel to hosts Jo and Peter, this was one of the best - if not THE best - highlights of our trip. We simply didn’t want to leave. And why would you? Jo’s chocolate chippie biscuits and celebration cake - not to mention her and Peter’s delicious home-cooked breakfasts - keep you coming back for more. We’d without a doubt stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet respite. We truly hope to see Jo and Peter again someday!

Our host, Jo, was delightful, friendly and a wonderful cook! We loved everything about Matuka Lodge - it was the best place we stayed in the 10 days of our NZ trip. Although on the pricier side due to lack of similar options in the area, the comfort and wonderful house more than made up for it. My Husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we’ll definitely be back!

Beautiful views and very comfortable. Jo was kind enough to drive us into town for dinner since we had already started enjoying some NZ wine. My only disappointment was that we couldn't stay longer.

Matuka was one of the highlights of our three week trip to New Zealand. Wonderful hosts and great views from the property. Borrowed bikes and road a 17.5 kilmometer loop that afforded magnificent views of the peaks and and rural life in this small relatively untouched community. Looking forward to returning to New Zealand someday and Matuka will definitely be part of our visit!

Lovely facility, great hospitality. Unfortunately weather was poor during our stay, but the comfort of the lodge helped to offset the disappointment of no views of the lakes or Mt. Cook. Very convenient to Twizel.

Jo & Pete go above & beyond in their facilities but also their service & hospitality for their guests! They make you feel welcomed & are extremely helpful. The rooms & facilities are immaculate & you couldn't find a better hotel or B&B anywhere! The views speak for themselves! And you can't go past Jo's infamous cake!! Highly recommended!!
