Very elegant traditional style pousada [ private hotel] in the centre of the historic city close to the sea and wharf from where the leisure boats that cruise the Bay of Paraty depart. Very well designed bedroom and communal spaces - our bedroom had a beautiful terrace with a view of the sea and near by marina. The bedroom linen and towels were as good as any 5 star hotel and the room was serviced daily. The first class Breakfast was included in the price and was most generous - including delicious local fruits and cooked omelets and scrambled and other egg options - I only had room for light lunches during my stay.after these breakfasts. I used the pool in the downstairs courtyard which was very refreshing after a tour of the busy city streets and the many city excursions. The service and helpfulness of the owners and staff was [ who speak English] impeccable. I visit Paraty annually and have stayed in many Pararty pousadas and would rate this as the best I have experienced in terms of comfort and service. For dinner in PARATY the best restaurant is THAI BRASIL which is by the big bookshop on the main commercial road in the historic centre - only about 4 minutes walk from this pousada [which recommended this suburb dining option from the countless options in the city]. I will certainly be staying in Pousada Arte Urquijo again and cannot recommend its luxury, comfort, and service highly enough.

Arrived one day late - due to flight cancellation - had informed hotel through Hotels.com - nevertheless got charged for the night that was not used. Very unfriendly business attitude!
