Stayed at the Owl a few times. Pub facilities are good. Rooms are basic, comfy bed, and adequate facilities. Tea and coffee tray in room. However on this visit there was a loose toilet seat and the radiator in the bedroom did not work. These were reported but not rectified during our stay.

Car parking is free and plenty of doace available when we arrived. There's a convenience store right next door which is handy for any little items we might have forgotten to bring. Check in was easy snd the staff were friendly and helpful. The room was large and comfortable, however there were a couple of niggles. The wall next to the single bed in our family room was dirty and I cleaned it before using the bed. Also, there's no reading lamp beside the single bed which is inconvenient, although there is a socket next to the bed, so a lamp coild be placed on the shelf. There was a smell of drains in the bathroom when we arrived and this lingered into the second day of our stay. The plug doesn't fit tightly in the bath, so the water leaks away! However the room was quiet, the beds comfortable and we had everything we needed.

The room at first appearance is lovely. Large TV, comfy bed, looks modern. However, no heating in October, the toilet seat was broken and didn't flush well. The shower wasn't very hot and water went all over the floor due to a very flimsy shower curtain. One of the single beds wasn't a bed, just a camp bed that sunk in the middle. Staff were really nice though. The food in the pub was ok but nothing special. I'd not eat or stay there again though. I only stayed one night.

A dormitory type room with all the noise from people toileting/crashing on ceilings/slamming doors until 3am. Stuffy, uncomfortable, seriously over priced.

Ideal location for surrounding areas such as York, Xscape and hour away from flamingo land. Friendly staff. Nice evening meals and breakfast. Room was hot and the fan did not work.

The room was fine. We were only there for 1 night so didn't need much more than a comfy bed and somewhere clean to wash. Unfortunately, the bathroom was less than clean. There were hairs still present in the bath from previous occupents and what looked like toilet stains on the wall next to the loo. The bathroom had a very unpleasant smell. I couldn't shower in the bath so just had to have a quick wash.
Meal and service at the pub restaurant was good.

Was sent to the wrong room first which was occupied, looked like a nice room then was sent across the courtyard to a standard basic room. It still had a plate with a piece of cake on from last guest. The toilet was useless it wouldn’t flush properly

Room was dated, problems with water pressure and temperature of water from the shower.
The iron leaked water when using it.

The evening meal was delicious and reasonably priced and the cooked-to-order breakfast was excellent.

On arrival the room was cold and the wasn't any tea and coffee available. Once the heating was put on I was unable to reduce the temperature in the room which then made it unbearable through the night to sleep. There was very little room to maneuver round the bed which made it difficult during the night when I required the bathroom. The tiles in the bathroom looked dirty and out dated.

Great value for money. Good sized comfortable family room with good facilities for an over night stay. Plenty of space, large bathroom, only issue was the heater in the bathroom we couldn’t get to work so alittle cold.

Cosy hotel. Rooms were clean and neat. Nice pub with a nice atmosphere and food. Good location to visit York and less expensive compared to living in York! Free and ample parking as well.

Staff were very friendly and polite. Room was tired and small. There was not enough room to sit on toilet properly for example. Bed was clean and comfortable . Price was reasonable so can’t expect too much .

Lovely big bedroom and bathroom, spotlessly clean and comfortable.
We had dinner over at the pub too, service great, friendly atmosphere and nice food.

Friendly staff.Clean spacious room with a very comfortable bed.Good food menu in the bar reasonably priced.On my 2nd night there was a power cut affecting the whole village leaving me sat in the dark with no electricity to use facilities and the pub area was closed.The manager was very apologetic and helpful and offered to refund me for the night. I would absolutely recommend a stay here and will definitely stay again.

We had an overnight stay in a family room. It was a great room, extremely comfortable and a large bed, and a proper bed for our son. The room was quiet and we were impressed by the quality for only £72.
We had a good evening meal in the pub. Friendly staff. We visited York 30 min away.

We booked 2 double rooms for a long weekend, both rooms were spotless, very comfortable bed, so an excellent night sleep! The lock broke on one room on the last night so my family were moved to another room with no problem. Friendly, approachable staff, very attentive. We booked our evening meals at the bar, good choice on the menu. Extensive choice for breakfast too. Would definitely stay there again.

The only negative comment is I was on the 3rd floor, a lot of steps for me.

However the breakfast and coffee were appalling. £6.75 for a piece of sliced white toast. Processed cereals, the fruit on offer was an over ripe apple and the coffee was dreadful. Utterly hideous!
Stay there by all means but don’t touch the breakfast!

My brother & me found this pub in August 2022 when looking for decent evening food in the area and saw that it was a hotel too. We therefore booked to stay Thurs 24th - Sat 26th August around our annual trip to the Ebor cup at York Races. We ate and drank in the pub on Thursday night too. Everything was fabulous thank you inc. value for money, customer service throughout, cleanliness and facilities in the room, management of an event in the pub on the Saturday night which inc very loud music but finished promptly at a sensible time in line with licensing conditions.

We enjoyed our stay at The Owl.The hotel was very clean and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was very good, will definitely book there if we are wanting to stay in the vicinity again.

Room was fine, bed was comfy.
We arrived at 1:30pm, check in was at 2pm and although the room was ready they asked us to pay for early check in which we didn’t think was great.
Couldn’t hear the noise from the pub below but it was noisy and difficult to sleep due to our room being next to the stairs and you could hear people going up and down with their luggage and talking. Very thin walls
