Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We had a wonderful time at Shangri-La & Orchid Cottage. We were a group of ten people and the houses fit everyone just fine. They were stocked with all the appliances, sunscreens, bug sprays, beach accessories, and many, many more things that we needed. LaChadra was the best caretaker! We contacted her a few times when the internet went down and when we had car problems. She took care of everything quickly and with such a positive and pleasant attitude. The beach was a short walk over a hill and we mostly had it all to ourselves. We saw many other beaches and even saw turtles, dolphins, rays, and a barracuda. What a wonderful trip!

Reviewer Comments: Our group of 9 stayed at Shangra-La and Orchid cottages over the Thanksgiving holiday and absolutely enjoyed our stay. We rented 3 cars from Chad, who is also the property manager. She was at the airport when we arrived with the warmest welcome. We cannot speak highly enough of Chad; her attention to detail, quick response to anything we asked and her welcoming disposition. The houses are located in the central part of the island which made it an easy drive to either southern or northern points. Both houses have a clothes washer which was huge since we were there for 10 days. They are decorated beautifully and have everything you would need or want. The climb down/up from the beach is very steep, so most of us used the beach in front of Pascal's with stairs. We walked down the dirt road to Pascal's to see Sammy the bartender many of the days .... maybe too many! We didn't do the Friday fish fry in town, but we do highly recommend Buccaneers for breakfast, Eleuthera Island Farm for bread/olives/everything amazing, Tippy's for music and LaBougaivillea for all day decadent eating lounging by their upscale pool. A day trip to Spanish Wells is a must. Buddah's for lunch and The Shipyard for dinner is a must. Harbor Island was too busy for us. We would recommend staying at either Shangra-La or Orchid cottages as you will not be disappointed!

The process to rent and pay for the property was extremely easy. We rented both houses, the only compliant was the path between the houses need more light. Before the trip, we received check in information and in the welcome letter. there was helpful information regarding the island. We rented 2 cars from Cadet car rental which made it easier since they are the people who manage the property. Our flight was delayed by 5 hours, but it did not matter. Once we were on the island, they were there to greet us at the house. Gave us a brief tour and they were on their way. The house was very lovely, the kitchen stocked all the necessities (glasses, pots and pans, plates). The wi-FI was very good. The house surprisingly stayed cool all day. The a/c got very cool at night, but it was relaxing after long days in the sun. The washing machine came in handy after our visits to the beach. The beach by the property is gorgeous, however, it was a little to rough the entire time. The kids enjoyed making sand castles. The best thing to do once you get there is go to the grocery store. We compared the 2 stores in town (burrows and eleuthera supply) and by far Burrows was cheaper. We went to the fish fry on friday night. The food was delicious, however, if you want a good choice of food, you need to go early. We went around 730 -8 and it was not much meat choices left. Also it rained, so the night was cut short. We went to Ronnie's a couple of nights, played pool. The remainder of the trip we just went sightseeing. My overall experience with Shangri-la was A+.

Loved the stay at the Shangri-La. It truly felt like a home a way from home. The yard is well manicured, and the ocean is just a small walk away. I do wish the upstairs loft had a/c. But that is the only down side. The owners work with you on payment arrangements, and the property manger takes very good care of the guest. We will be coming back. ❤️❤️

We recently returned from a wonderful week on Eleuthera. Shangri La was the perfect environment for our family of five and a welcome change to our fast paced everyday life outside of Philadelphia. We loved knowing exactly what the property had to offer from the multiple pictures shared on the owners facebook page. My girls shared the downstairs bedroom and my son loved sleeping in the loft over looking the living room. We enjoyed lazy morning in the meadow, coffee on the deck, long walks on the pink sugar sands of Banana Beach which is a ONE MINUTE WALK from the house, afternoon walks on Banks Road to visit Sammy at Sky Beach Club, exploring the island in our rental car provided by care takers Barry and Chad (who we love) and peaceful sleeps in the most comfortable beds. If you are looking for a tropical island getaway, free of typical daily distractions, look no further. Some may be turned off by the absence of some modern conveniences, like a clothes dryer, but you will soon find how much enjoyment you can achieve by hanging your clothes on the line outside. Clothes really do smell the best when dried naturally! Our time at Shangri La was the perfect departure from our normal busy routine. To our surprise, our flight leaving Eleuthera was cancelled and we needed to stay on the island for two extra days. Barry and Chad were so helpful in allowing us to keep a vehicle and made sure we had everything we needed until we could depart. Julianna and Tara were equally as helpful. We never felt uncertain of where to go or who to call. Eleuthera is like home to us. Once you visit, you will want to return year ( if not month) after year.
