We had a big family holiday with kids from age 7 to newborn at the house for almost a month. The location is fantastic — right on a beach that is swimmable and safe for little kids and was never particularly busy. Our 2 year old was in the water almost every day. And it’s great for adults for swimming and snorkeling. We saw lots of fish and sea turtles. It’s a short (15-20 minute) drive to either Hawaii Kai or Kailua for restaurants, groceries and things to do and just down the road from the bigger beach in Waimanalo. The road is quite busy but you don’t hear or see any of the traffic from the house.
The house itself has a great layout. A huge living room with ocean views, and a big kitchen / dining area with lots of space to cook and eat. The bedrooms are generously sized, especially the two primary suites, and the en suite bathrooms were great for a family of our size.
Property manager Gilles was wonderful. A little hard to reach before arrival but beyond helpful and responsive once we got there.
The reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is that the house is a little dated with a few quirks for its price. The outdoor foot rinse / shower works but isn’t great. The bathrooms are a bit dated and each one had some small issue (fan broken, tub handle fell off, etc). However, overall it was a great house with an even better location and we would definitely rent it again.

Natural Beauty/Excellent Swimming
We absolutely loved staying at this large and spacious home! The location on the beach is truly stunning and the swimming is fantastic due to the natural reef about 700 feet from shore. Most days during the week the beach was ours alone. Weekends were somewhat busier. The house is nicer than the pictures show and it truly has everything you need to live very comfortably. There is plenty of beach equipment and towels. As some previous guests have mentioned the house is older and definitely has some 'quirks.' But all the kitchen appliances were in good or new condition and the AC in all rooms worked great. This is home has wear and tear but Gilles the host is excellent and responded very quickly to the couple of needed repairs. It would be best to have a car if staying at the property but we also ubered places and it was never a problem. There are many restaurants and grocery stores 15 minutes away and it never took us more than 35 mi minutes to drive into Waikik. Do not be afraid to stay on this side of the island. It was wonderful. Would book this property again!

Steps away from a beach
The property is literally ten steps away from a beautiful beach. It is very spacious and clean. There is plenty of beach equipment - chairs, towels, boards.
It is a bit away from stores, shops, and restaurants so a car is necessary.
We enjoyed our stay very much!

This property is AMAZING!
My sisters and I planned this trip for our Dad’s 70th birthday and we couldn’t have picked a better place. Our host, Gilles, was awesome and super nice! He came by the day we arrived to greet us and make sure we settled in and had everything we needed. He responds quickly with any questions we had.
The property itself is great! The moment you walk in the front door, you just see endless turquoise waters out the back windows. It was breathtaking. The house has plenty of space with 5 bedrooms, each with their own bathroom. There was 10 of us total, 8 adults and 2 kids. We rarely left the property since our backyard was the beach. There is a little pool area that is perfect for the kids. We went snorkeling almost everyday and saw so many different fishes. But the best part is definitely the view and the peace and quiet beach. If you don’t want to be near the hustle and bustle of Waikiki, this is the perfect place. The best places to eat are definitely in Waikiki and it’s just a 20-30 minute drive, depending on the traffic. There are other closer towns like Hawaii Kai and Kailua with shops and great restaurants that are about a 15 minute drive.
Overall, we would definitely stay here again. We are making it a goal to come back next year. Thank you Gilles for an amazing stay!

Great stay
My family and I stayed at the property for a month. We worked while there, besides the internet connection and minor fixes it was a great property as it was spacious and beautiful. The property is located at one of the best beaches. The beach is kid friendly, so much to do - fishing, snorkeling, kayaking, swimming. It is very kid friendly and we would definitely come back. Mahalo!

The Chalet has all one needs for a short or extended stay. Waimanalo is a great small Hawaiian town. The beauty is amazing.

Great place
House is great and Giles was very easy to talk with if needed. Older house so just little knicks and randomly minor broken things so if that type of stuff bothers you something to be aware of. Outside of that the beach is perfect for swimming and great for little kids.

Spacious and comfortable vacation house on the beach
We are a family of nine of three generations and truly enjoyed this great house right on the beach.
The bedrooms are all very large with on suites bathroom, the living area very comfortable for a large group and the kitchen well equipped.
There are plenty of beach equipment, outdoor showers and bbq.
Gilles the manager is very nice and helpful and addressed quickly any questions or issues we raised..
The house sits on a small stretch of a beach and about 50 yards from it there is a small pool lagoon which is perfect for little kids.

Chalet at the Beach
Excellent beachfront property with good swimming and snorkeling. Fantastic views and nice trade winds breezes.
Homeless encampments in the area, but wasn’t a problem.
Property manager Gilles was good, and when the upstairs AC went out, he responded quickly with portable AC units.
Excellent kitchen area, lighting, and audio system throughout the house and deck.

Beautiful home
We had a wonderful time at the Chalet. Great communication with Gilles, perfect beach for swimming and snorkeling. A great family vacation we won't forget. The neighbor was a bit odd, but no problems really. Rooster kept crowing, but didn't bother most of us.

Beyond our very high expectations!
Gile's home is gorgeous and everything you might need is provided. We had 9 in our family from 4-69. Beautiful rooms for everyone. The deck and grassy area overlooking the beach were spectacular. Open your gate and you are on a basically private sandy beach with great swimming and boogie boards and beach chairs provided. We rented stand-up paddle boards which we used every day. The views from the home were ever-changing with the sunrises and color of the water. We did a long walk most mornings on Waimonola Beach which was only a short walk from our home. We usually did a half day trip to the lighthouse hike, pillbox hike, Pearl Harbor, snorkeling at Hanauma Bay but always being so happy to come back to our marvelous home. Thank-you for sharing your home, Giles!

Hawaii Family Vacation
Our family went to Hawaii to celebrate my parent's 40th Anniversary. We loved this house. The beach access is great amenity and you are a short drive up or down the road to all the best parts of the island. Thank you for having us!

House and location was perfect for our family of seven. Beautiful views and friendly neighbors.
Our family of six adults and one child could not of found a better property to stay at. We had plenty of room for everyone to have there own space. The house was clean and had everything we needed for a wonderful relaxing vacation. The sun rise view is awesome. We felt safe having a young child being able to play and make sand castles near the waters edge. Property manager was very helpful with anything we needed. Hope to go back soon.

Beach Vacation
This property was very nice and well described on the vrbo website. We loved the beach that was reachable via stairs in front of the house with about a 10 foot drop. This was our 50th wedding anniversary celebration with our two married daughters, husbands and 2 year old and 6 year old grandchildren. Most of our time we spent on the beach and the kids loved it. The ocean was very safe for small kids at this location.
I would have given all five stars except for a few minor issues. The local area appeared to be a destination for the homeless who were camped out in local parks. Also, this house is very nice but older and this shows when you look closely at some of the window sills etc. All of the appliances were newer and both dishwashers worked well, which was very nice. The kitchen is very spacious and the supplied dishes, pots etc were very nice. The air conditioner worked well and the views were gorgeous.
The property manager was very nice however we did have one issue prior to our stay. We booked the property six months in advance for 8 nights. Three months prior to our visit the owner (not the property manager) decided they wanted to have a family reunion on the last two days of our booking so they cancelled our booking (I don't think they had the legal right to cancel) when we did not agree to this change. Subsequently, we negotiated a new booking at a reduced nightly amount for 6 nights instead of 8. As it turned out we spent these last two days at a very nice resort for about the same cost so it worked our well for us. Everyone liked the mix of a large home and a nice resort.

Awesome location, but....
There are some pros and cons with this house. First the pros:
Amazing location - perfect. This is literally on the beach.
House is beautiful and set up well for large parties. We were 8 and very comfortable.
View is breathtaking.
Check in is easy with door key code. No key is ever needed so super convenient.
House is stocked with everything including beach chairs, umbrellas, and boogie boards.
Cons:
Communication prior to arriving with manager was very poor. Prior to coming we needed to confirm some things and there was no response. I was eventually was told he couldn’t communicate with me until receiving a contract; which is fine. However it would have been good to know there was a contract that wasn’t received instead of going days with no response. Once we arrived the communication was excellent.
The house itself is beautiful. However there are numerous small things wrong with the house. One or two things are fine, but there were many. For example, the living room air con was not working (fixed while we were there and broke again). One of the dishwashers didn’t work. The blinds in two of the upstairs bedrooms can not be pulled up/down. Once they are down there is no way to enjoy the great view. One of the drawers in the kitchen came apart (first time opening). The ice maker didn’t work. The master bath toilet didn’t flush well. There is quite a bit of rotting wood around the house (mostly outside). One of the ovens did not heat properly. Several of the showers has crosion on the nozzle such that water did not come out properly. As you can see, nothing as just one is a big deal. But there were many little things.
This house is not walking distance to anything - walking on the beach is the only option as it sits directly on the the highway.
Overall this is a great place and I would choose it again.

Beautiful home on a beautiful beach.
Our family of 12 had a wonderful stay in this beautiful home. There was plenty of room for all of us and each room had it's own bath, nice to have privacy for the parents.
Our grandkids loved the beach, very calm for small children even on windy days because of the reef , which extends way out into the bay. We had one very calm day when some of the adults could snorkel out in the deep for a nice view of the reef. It is an exotic beach, sandy in some places for swimming and rocky in others for fishing and snorkeling. Some of the locals spear for octopus. Some volcanic rocks on the beach to add to the beauty. The fish/ turtle ponds are slowly being restored by a local Hawaiian group. Though there weren't any turtles while we were there. We met some of the locals and learned a lot of the history of the area, very interesting. We took a short drive further down the beach to use the boogie boards provided at the house and found some bigger waves for the older kids. Did some surfing and shopping on Waikiki only 20 to 30 minutes away depending on traffic. Airport 30 minutes without traffic. We did take another rout to see the island and avoid Honolulu.
The you get healthy ones in our group climbed Coco crater trail nearby, exhausting , but worth the view. Hanauma bay close by for awesome snorkeling. There is also a paved trail to lighthouse near Makapu'u beach that we did not try. The neighbors do have some cats, I'm somewhat allergic , but they never bothered me. The views of the sea, the colors of the waters, the mountains opposite the beach are so beautiful. We will miss waking up to sunrises over Rabbit island and the distant waves crashing on the reef.
Mahalo and Merci beaucoup for allowing us to stay in this beautiful home.
