The space was cozy and clean and had everything we needed. Beautiful location watching the boats and float planes from the windows and deck!

Terrific place with outstanding view of the water. Close enough to the Downtown area that it was an easy walk. Gina, our host, was easy to access and very helpful. Overall a great experience.

This place is small but well thought out. It has everything you need.

We stayed 7 nights and overall, would rent again. The efficiency is well decorated, clean, comfortable bed with a nice view of the water, watching boats come and go from the balcony. The hot water is shared with the other Suite so there were times we had to wait to shower.

The lady is very unfriendly from the moment trying to get in the door. Paper thin wall that you can hear the people upstairs snore and fart. Very steep steps to get in and out of the place. The hot water won’t fill the tub so forget that too. Don’t waste your money

A private pristine little piece of paradise.

The Mermaid’s Lair was a perfect getaway for me and my husband. We stayed 3 nights on a trip to Kodiak for golf and relaxation. We loved the view; the weather was perfect for sitting on the deck, and the room was comfortable and had everything we needed. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Our hosts made sure we were all tucked in, and let us enjoy the Mermaids lair. They offered to let us borrow bikes, and Wow! That was so much fun to see Kodiak by bike. It was more than just a stunning view!

The view was lovely. Quiet setting. We enjoyed the fishing boats coming in and going out of harbor. There were also sea otters to entertain us. In our final 24 hours we saw few small whales and groups of sea lions passing by. The bed and the room comfortable. Fun to utilize the claw foot bathtub. It was an easy walk to and around town. We also walked across the Near Island bridge to take in some hiking. The owner was nice, available and helpful as needed.

Apartment was nice, clean and photos were accurate. The view is slightly obscured by some trees but still a good view. We saw a sea lion and lots of boats coming and going. My only suggestion would be to change the chairs on the deck to the taller chairs so you could easily see over the deck railing. I would go back.

Every picture and the explanation of the place was how it was when i got there. The view was excellent and the hosts were very helpful. Graet place to stay!

We truly enjoyed the coziness of this rental. It has a lot of space for two. The bed is comfortable with nice linens. I love the view of the water just off the deck. Plenty of room to hang our clothes and a large dresser. I highly recommend staying at the Mermaid’s Lair…the theme was throughout the beautiful rental. There are stairs going down to the rental and a claw foot tub to climb in and out of. This could be a problem for a person with a physical disability. We are in our 60’s and it wasn’t a problem for us.

The Mermaid Lair is absolutely stunning. The soak in the tub In the evenings and morning coffee overlooking the water was so very tranquil! Our stay was very relaxing and everything we hoped it would be aside from experiencing the 8.2 earthquake!! Wow! I guess we had the whole Alaskan experience this trip! Fishing was excellent! Captain Kevin of the Lucky 9 Charters did not disappoint! We took home over 100 pounds of fish! We also had time to take in a fun little hike ups to Termination Point! I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and will definitely be back again!!

This is a beautiful room with everything we needed and more. We especially enjoyed the private porch with a beautiful view. It was quite relaxing and Gina is a great hostess!

Gina was so easy to talk to and responded promptly when we had questions or requests. She even got us in early when another accommodation fell through last minute. The view was amazing and the room was decorated so nicely. Would definitely stay her again!

Excellent views every morning of the boats coming into the harbor, quiet with the slow wake for boat speeds, great amenities: coffee, shampoo/ conditioner, eating utensils; our neighbors above us were not loud; the oak flooring helps cushion sounds and creates a beautiful atmosphere. I loved this mermaid lair location; excellent host, provided thorough check in info and pamphlets available for the finest adventures kodiak has to offer! This location is charming, quiet, and all the amenities of a home away from home!! Thank you:)!

I was completely impressed with the space and the small private balcony overlooking the waterway between Kodiak and Near Island. The accommodations were just perfect for a little getaway and it was a very quiet neighborhood.

The location and the views were incredible. Hosts were nice.

Beautiful view of the water, clean and very cozy and quiet. The room is beautifully decorated with great pictures and our favorite Kauai theme photos.

The mermaid lair was perfect for the two of us. We had everything we needed for our week stay. The property owner and manager were very attentive. Easy access in and out of the room and loved that we could use the stairs to the walkway near the water. Very easy walk to downtown Kodiak. Great Stay, Thank You!!

We had a great stay. Beautiful views. We would definitely stay here again.

The unit was nice enough but there was no breakfast of any kind ever offered.Access to the shoreline in the views was very limited and required having the owners get their dogs in beforehand.A coffee maker was in the room but was so dirty that no sensible person would have used it.Towards the end of our stay,someone occupied the unit above us,it was immediately obvious that there was zero sound proofing in the ceiling or front door.Our new neighbors were extremely inconsiderate and only spoke in "playground" voice levels and stomped around on the floor with their shoes on before 8:00 am.

Gina and Mike's Awesome View rental is located right on the Near Island Chanel, overlooking a grassed public park and walkway. We stayed in the Mermaid's Lair, the lower of two units they offer. Mermaids Lair was light, airy, warm, and comfortable. The room was very private, clean, and well-appointed. Gina and Mike have operated these units as a B&B in the past and offered continental breakfasts of fresh fruit, bagels, croissants, oatmeal, and granola. However, Gina mentioned that they might be be transitioning to more of a vacation rental format in the future and so you might want to ask about whether breakfasts are supplied. If not, there are some great options in the area. We recommend Monks Rock Coffee House. All of downtown Kodiak is within easy walking distance, with great access to the restaurants, brewery (the Kodiak Sarah Pale Ale was a favorite!), museums, National Wildlife Refuge Visitors Center, walking trails on Near Island, and the bustling commercial fishing harbor of Kodiak, the largest fishing fleet in Alaska. When we tired of seeing the sights around Kodiak, we enjoyed sitting on our private deck to watch fishing vessels arrive and leave from the harbor and follow float planes landing and taking off from Trident Basin on the other side of Near Island. And in the evening, once things has settled down, we enjoyed reading a book on the comfortable sofa in our room by a large window and listening to the soft bell of the No. "15" navigation buoy in the channel. Very relaxing. We enjoyed meeting Gina and Mike and highly recommend their place. We look forward to a return visit some day! Breck and Linda (Burlington, VT)
