Beautiful location. Lilliam and her family take wonderful care of property and so helpful. Emily very responsive and helpful all recommendations spot on. Our family had a wonderful stay

All my family of 6 enjoyed this beautiful house with a lot of character. Beach was just steps away and the shade underneath the palms, on the grass, the best!! Our housekeeper was amazing, putting the hammocks and chairs for us and all other little things that make your stay one to remember.
Emily, our host, was so easy to communicate with and so helpful with organization of our tours and transport. Thank you Emily, we will be back for sure!

We stayed at Casa Sirena for a week for a small family reunion. The host, Emily, is wonderful. She gave us loads of fantastic recommendations for local things to do and places to eat- all of her suggestions were spot on. She even went above and beyond by helping us book an excursion that we loved! The ziplining and mangrove monkey tour were huge hits with my family (kids and adults). Emily made sure we had everything we needed for an incredible trip!
The house is literally on the beach! The water is warm and there are fantastic waves for surfing and boogie boarding. We also enjoyed sitting out in the hammocks, swimming in the pool, walking on the beach, playing in the waves, and having a bonfire. Inside the house is clean and spacious, with an open-concept floor plan and a huge fully equipped kitchen. Each evening we enjoyed family time and games (provided)! The house is in a great location with easy access to Jaco, Quepos, and Manual Antonio.
To take things to the next level, Casa Sirena has an on-site caretaker, Lilliam. She is kind, generous, helpful, attentive, and respectful of privacy. She’s also a very talented cook! Lilliam and her sweet family made our stay so memorable- almost like we were visiting family! On our last night in Costa Rica, she prepared a mouth-watering homemade meal of red snapper caught locally with gourmet salad and authentic ceviche. It was our favorite thing we ate all week. The combination of these factors make C

Great location and its proximity to the beach couldn't be better. Emily, the host, and Liliam, the caretaker, couldn't have been more helpful and responsive. My only regret is that we left our portable bluetooth speaker at home!

I stayed here for 7 days in Jan/24 and had a fantastic experience. I'd definitely go back and highly recommend it!!
Located on a quieter stretch of the beach, some days I was alone in the water! Got busier on weekends as the beach is open to locals, but never did I feel it was crowded or unsafe. I had no trouble finding it with the directions Emily gave me.
Kitchen is large with every small appliance imaginable. Washer/dryer came in handy. A/C in each room worked well. Boogie boards, towels & chairs for the beach. Even a bunch of sand sets for little kids.
2 small grocery stores within walking distance (maybe 10 minute walk or just a 1-2 minute drive) with bread, milk, eggs, fruit, pop/soda, ice-cream, cookies, yogurt, chips, butter etc. Lots of other spots to get groceries a short drive along the main highway, so food was easy. Lots of good restaurants within walking distance or a short drive away.
Black sand beach that's very clean and wide. The waves/surf were constant and pretty strong, but in a good way. There's a very long/wide shallow part, so even though I'm short, I was able to walk far into the water and have fun for hours using the boogie board while still feeling safe . Just be smart and use common sense
Emily is a great host in constant touch if I needed any help like booking excursions (like fishing which I've never done before!). Liliana (the caretaker) and her son Justin were fantastic and made me feel like I was part of their family.

It is impossible to find a better location. The house is right across a gravel road from a beach that spans for miles. Sunsets can be seen from the palm trees.

We had such an Amazing time! The beach was just a few steps away and we had it almost to ourselves. Emily and Lilliam were absolutely amazing to deal with. It was central to everything we needed. It was a dream vacation. Lilliam helped with set up on the beach which the house had everything we needed for that. She helped us with meals and laundry and fresh made juices and coconuts. Emily arranged for massages for us on the beach which were so relaxing. kids loved boogie boarding and surfing. Everyone was very friendly. I think my whole family would love to come back.

This house is a beautiful spot on the beach. Highlights were the house caretaker who put out hammocks and a table and chairs every day for us on the beach. The fresh cerviche you can buy on the beach every day was the best! Also someone comes buy every day to buy fresh bread! This was my first time in Costa Rica and it was very warm every day. Thanks for sharing your piece of a beautiful oasis!

For two over-the-hill brothers and their three adults sons this was a perfect bonding experience. Being able to walk out the front door and jump into the ocean to surf or boogie board made this a great location. The town of Oeste Estrillos was an authentic, local experience. The super mercado in town had everything we needed and Los
Almendros restaurant quickly became our favorite restaurant with great atmosphere and excellent cuisine. The town is also perfectly located between Jaco and Quepos where we found plenty of activities to enjoy. The Park at Ocean Ranch was our favorite. We chose the half day experience combining waterfall rappelling, zip lining and ATV. What a blast. At 75, standing the top of the waterfall, I came very close to turning tail but I sucked it up and enjoyed a bucket list experience I never would have thought to put on it. Their catamaran party boat out of Quepos was another highlight. A fun, relaxing time whale watching, snorkeling and jumping/diving into the ocean. the staff waited on us constantly. Emily was extremely helpful via WhatsApp, and her caretaker on the premise, Lilliam, and her youngsters, were a delight. Although she didn't understand a word of English and our Spanish was marginal at best, we had fun trying to communicate and it worked out fine. One night we had Lilliam prepare our dinner. We decided on fish and it was amazing. She also made a delicious seafood stew for lunch the next day. We also enjoyed the pool and hammocks a lot.

Nice location to stay on the pacific coast. Great beach and close to waterfalls, rain forest and places to vist or eat. Housekeeper was the best, make sure to get to know her and her son.

With AC in every bedroom, a fully stocked kitchen and lots of beach equipment, my family had lots of fun at Casa Sirena. Lilliam, the caretaker, set up hammocks by the beach and cleaned the pool daily. Emily, the owner, was incredibly helpful at recommending and booking fantastic excursions that we all enjoyed. As easy 1.5 hr drive from San Jose, the house was in a great location to explore the wonders of the Pacific coast. Pura Vida!

This was such a beautiful beach house, perfectly situated across a dirt road from a stunning beach. The house is tastefully decorated and great for families, with a well-equipped kitchen and open kitchen/dining/family area. The pictures don't do it justice.
Bedrooms were very comfortable and air conditioned. We acclimated and turned off the air conditioning at night so that we could listen to the waves.
We were a family of 6 ranging in ages from 24 to 63. Everyone loved this house. We loved reading in the hammocks, or carrying our chairs to the beach to watch the sunrise or sunset. Or hanging out in the yard and watching the birds and iguanas.
The house is also very well equipped with boogie boards, a skim board, beach chairs, hammocks, and lots of towels.
Esterillos Oeste is a small pleasant beach town. People were friendly, and you could walk to the town from the house.
Activities my family loved: surfing, fishing (we caught mahi mahi and made some excellent meals), horseback riding at sunset, ATV, zip-lining, and a guided tour of Manuel Antonio National Park.
There are also some excellent restaurants in the town. But the real pleasure was the house and the beach.
Emily was very responsive to any questions before and during our stay. She is very knowledgeable and can help answer questions about activities.
Three things to be aware of:
1) We did have an attempted break-in. The heavy door stopped the would-be burglar, but do listen to Emily when she advises you to lock up valuables and lock up the house when going to the beach. This was the first time they'd had this type of problem.
2) There is a significant riptide at this beach. We were warned by the life guard down in town and by Emily. Pay attention. Families with small children really enjoyed the tide pools down by the mermaid.
3) There is construction next door, but the sound was negligible and there is a privacy screen up.
We loved this house and I would love to come back and stay again. It worked really well for our family.
Oh! Harry Potter fans will love the bedroom under the stairs!

We had the best time at Casa Sirena! This was my 3rd and favorite time to Costa Rica. Emily was so easy to communicate with and made sure it was an unforgettable week for all of us. We went fishing with Javier, had traditional casada made in the house with the red snapper we caught and enjoyed every minute of our stay! We loved the hammocks on the beach, the swimming pool was the perfect size for our kids (ages 7-12). The beach is basically in the front yard and most days we had it completely to ourselves. We will always remember our stay at Casa Sirena!

This property is AMAZING. Emily was so kind, so thoughtful, so helpful, and so responsive! Helen, the caretaker, was very nice and accomodating, making sure our stay was as relaxing as possible. The location is spectacular. Close enough to walk to the local restaurants and shops, but far enough away to feel secluded. The pool was inviting and refreshing after swimming in the ocean and washing off in the lovely outdoor shower. All the artwork, inside and out, was gorgeous. I have stayed many places but this was by far the most special and accommodating place I've ever been. Emily, thank you for all the recommendations!! We went ocean fishing with a local that lives down the street, took a guided night hike to see owls and frogs, went on a boat tour to see monkeys, and ziplined through the canopies. Seeing scarlet macaws perched on the property trees and iguanas and geckos running through the yard was unforgettable. Pura vida!!!

We've been home for a couple weeks now and we are still talking about what a great experience we had at this rental... The location is ideal, nice and quiet but still a quick walk or drive into the small town of Oeste where you can find several good restaurants, groceries and friendly locals. The house itself is very unique, lots of tropical landscaping for privacy and shade with a small splash pool out front. We have stayed in a lot of rental homes in CR over the years and I have to say this was a favorite... a well stocked kitchen and lots of books and art to peruse made it feel very homey. Highly recommended for surfers, naturalists or other thoughtful travelers. Thank you so much for opening your home to us and we will be back again some day!

We had an incredible stay! Emily is just amazing! She was available for any questions we had. Super helpful and kind, we felt instantly welcomed here. She made us feel so welcome by her thoughtful welcome basket. We've stayed at many vrbo homes and never got a welcome like that. :)
The property is gorgeous! Having the ocean in our front yard was quite the treat! We enjoyed the beach so much! It was the best boogie boarding we've ever experienced. Emily has all the beach essentials there for use. Boogie boards, skim boards, chairs, etc. The pool was also great. It's a smaller pool, but all you need for cooling off and relaxing. The outdoor shower was also great to have. We enjoyed the scarlet macaws that would perch on the trees right over the pool.
Helen, the caretaker, was so wonderful to hang two hammocks by the beach each morning. She gave us complete privacy, but it was comforting to know she was nearby if we needed something. The house had everything we could possibly need and more! The washer and dryer was a huge plus too.
Emily is so thorough in the information she has at the house. She pointed us in the right direction for dinners and adventures. We loved the town of Esterillos. Delicious food, lovely people, we always felt very safe.
Thank you again to Emily and Helen! We hope to be back!

We've been to Costa Rica five previous times and always stayed at VRBO's. The house is typical for Costa Rican VRBO's we've visited and well maintained for its age. The rooms are spacious, the pool is perfect, the grounds are well-maintained, and the kitchen is well equipped. I cannot say enough good things about the owner, Emily. She communicated often, was quick to respond, and went out of her way to help us schedule tours. I would recommend leveraging Emily's expertise for any tours you may be considering. She even left snacks, including fruit and bottled water, ahead of our arrival. My two college aged kids especially liked the area across the dirt road where Emily had hammocks hung from palm trees overlooking the ocean. A few things for consideration: While the on-site caretaker does a great job with the yard and pool, she doesn't clean inside, take out the trash, etc.. This was different from other VRBO's we've stayed at where the caretaker did some amount of cleaning every day and would wash clothes and/or cook for an additional fee. The Internet is slow by today's standards. I was able to handle a few work tasks, but it took patience and effort. More often than not, we used the data on our phones, which was limited to 3G. It took us approx. 15 minutes to walk to the center of town. While the road out front isn't totally dark, it was dark enough we drove into town if visiting after 5:30pm. Parking at the handful of restaurants and the "super" market was not an issue. The strip of land that separates the sand/beach from the dirt road is public land. At locations up and down the road people park their vehicles on this strip of land for both day and overnight visits. No one parked in front of Casa Sirena during our visit, but overnight visitors did park across from the houses on either side. These visitors never bothered us. The town is a great location to get away yet close enough to visit the more touristy areas such as Jaco, Quepos, and Manuel Antonio.

We had a fantastic time in Costa Rica and we really liked the house. Emily was always available on phone and Helen took good care of the property and of the outstanding garden that distinguishes this house from others. The pool in the shadows on the beautiful trees offered a cool rest after a hot day in the ocean at 90 degrees!

So this was my 6th time to Costa Rica. Mostly boyz surf trips to north. First time to central pacific. Very cool area. Jaco not my fav but hermosa and the location of this house is cool. House is a
Clean mature house across a small dirt road from a very pretty beach called Esterillos. House is big has lots of amenities great kitchen laundry ac in all rooms and a great garden/ small pool/ rancho and beautiful plants. Spend all dinner cooking at house but u could take a 10 minute walk to a few stores and food. Great location and felt very safe. Caretaker Helen was on property at all times and her dog is nice. No habla ingles but still very nice with my decent Spanish. Positives: House itself is very cool. Super unique inside and out. Yard beautiful kitchen great with lots of everything Ac in all rooms. Comfy beds nice showers. Water pressure and hot water worked well. A plus for Central America. Not as
Positive: our driver who was set up for us took a very scenic route (at night) to get to house. 2.5 hours instead of 1.45 but no big deal. We think to avoid the toll. He also couldn’t find house we had to help him and call owner several times. Extra 20
Minutes with that. But that’s not the house. Then the house had no tv. Again no big deal as we not come to costa to watch tv. But photos seemed to show a big one on wall. Oh well. But biggest issue for my crew was terrible Wi-Fi. Couldn’t connect at all to internet to work the few hours per day we needed to. Got our texts and emails but no internet access. Again to unplug is needed on a trip to cr but to get plugged back in a little is kind of important to us. Less of an issue was the surf in front of house is not rideable. Dump of a barrel way too fast tk
Surf. Up road 1/2 mile is the surf break. Maybe just our week but seemed to be walled in front. But again not a deal breaker as the house was bitchen and the owner is super nice and the place had so many nice touches. I’d recommend it to literally anyone who wants to chill with nature and relax.

Perfectly located house in an area that lent intself to the experience of being a local for a week. The responsiveness was extraordinary!! On-site housekeeper was kind and always tidying the grounds. The house had everything one needs. Just a few minor non-working parts (EX: one of the master sink faucets did not work, but was not a big deal). The proximity to the ocean couldn't have been better- so much space to spread out for privacy when travelling with others. Thank you for a wonderful experience. You were a fabulous host!

Large home able to accommodate a large family. Easy access to the beach....good outdoor arrangement near the pool. Helen & Leo were great help and they live on the site, but never interfered with your activities. Beautiful yard with abundant native landscaping. We were surprised when we got to the property as the downstairs bedroom appears to be open but it is a small bedroom with its own A/C unity and downstairs bathroom is next room. In addition to this room which our 17 year old grandson loved, there is an additional twin bed in a downstairs alcove. These were bonuses for our group.

I don't usually write reviews but Emily's home deserves it. We wanted an oceanfront family vacation spot and this home fit the bill. Everything was as described. The small town where it is located has all the basics, including some great places to eat. Emily was very responsive to our many questions and caretakers Leo and Helena were always available if we needed something..
2.5 / 5.0
This home is wonderful! From Emily the owner, Leo the property manager, the ocean out the front door, the refreshing pool, hammocks, outside grill and palapa, and of course, fresh ceviche sold to your front door by a local on a dirt bike. Doesn’t get better than that. So close to everything but felt so secluded. We will 100% be back to stay here!

Stayed over Easter Week/Weekend 2021. Super busy time for travel in CR. We still had the entire beach basically to ourselves. The waves are huge and my kids loved trying to surf and boogie board surfing for hours. There are a few restaurants that were .5 miles away that we walked to for dinner. This area requires a car unless you heavily stock up on food. The house was great. tons of rooms and space to hang out. Really large family table for 9-10 people. Kitchen was big and had all the items you need to make breakfast/dinner. The outside is pool is small but we used it everyday and was perfect to get in at night or after the ocean swim as the sand can be washed off. Leo and his wife and their little dog were awesome and each morning had the yard and pool ready by 7am. Always felt super safe and you have a gated drive way for multi car parking if needed. Communication with Emily was always super easy. The beach is literally 10 feet from the front yard and the ocean maybe 1000ft. Nothing between you and the ocean but the beach. We had a great time.

I don't even know how to begin. The property and manager were incredible! This has to be our favorite VRBO ever. Stayed here with a family of 8, with 6 kids aged 8-18. Emily took great care to have fresh fruit, including mangoes--our favorite--games, sand toys, etc. ready for us when we arrived. We all had a wonderful time!

Absolutely beautiful house, spotlessly clean and meticulous attention to every detail made this a favorite vacation for us. We've stayed worldwide and rate Casa Sirena in our top visits ever. Waking up to walk the beach at sunrise, breakfast in in the Rancho, a dip in the pool, boogie boarding on the near deserted beach, reading time in the hammocks set up by Modesto the caretaker, fresh caught fish purchased on the beach grilled on the outdoor grill, walking the beach to town for a fabulous local dinner or happy hour of the local hibiscus beer, our evening fresh coconut water provided by Modesto are just a few of our favorite memories. House has every amenity you could want including comfortable beds, beautiful large showers, pool kept spotlessly clean, books, games, boogie boards, oodles of towels, washer and dryer and just in case you need anything more the marvelous Modesto and Di, caretakers, in their house at the back of the property.
A short drive to Manuel Antonio and Jaco but in a lovely, small village with good restaurants and a local market with everything you need. Owner Emily provided exceptional recommendations and saw to our every whim. We will definitely be back!

My wife and i would rate this as one of our most relaxing and rewarding vacations, ever. La Serena is a beautiful home on a world class beach. You get a true beach experience. We started and ended our days walking along the shore line and rarely ran into more than 4-5 people in an hour. A diet of fresh local fish and produce made it all the better. Emily has done a great job of provisioning the home and it lacks for nothing. We'll be back soon.

All 6 of us were so impressed with the Mermaid House, La Serena. The beach front location was perfect for swimming every day, shade under the palm trees, relaxing in hammocks while viewing the magnificent Pacific Ocean. The house was perfect with all the ammenties, with Modesto and Di, the caretakers always available if needed. Emily, the owner was so helpful with local information about restaurants, activities and maps. She also provided a bountiful welcoming package upon our arrival. We will be returning as soon as possible. Thank you Emily.

We could not have asked for a better house or a better location. The house was beautiful, clean and equipped with anything you could need. The caretakers were wonderful. The owner was so amazing to work with. Before we arrived there was a water issue. The owner was on top of it before we arrived and it was fixed before we even unpacked. If you are looking for a beautiful house on a very quiet beach, yet within walking distance to some great food, this place is for you. I cannot wait to go back again. My favorite beach place I've ever stayed to date for sure.

We were guests for Christmas, 2017. The house was very comfortable, beautiful and spacious. We enjoyed the pool, outside shaded hammock and dining area, as well as the stunning ocean. We enjoyed our early morning and evening walks down the beach for meals but could have cooked if we wanted to. Because we were in paradise, we were not inclined to spend time in the kitchen!
We would visit again in a heartbeat!

The photos do not do this beach house justice. There is an ambiance about this place that you can only really "get" by walking in the door. Ontop of that the foliage on the property is much more shady and lush than you see in the photos. I picked this place because it seemed to have a large comfortable interior that my wife would enjoy, while the rest of us were out surfing out front or at the point. She spent many hours lounging on the living room couch and the hammock by the pool reading. The main room is very large and the ceilings are tall. The open floor plan made it easy for people to cook in the kitchen while chatting with people in the dining room. We had eight people staying here for ten days and everybody had plenty of space. The woodwork and the attention details is exceptional. This house is not like summer camp or a weekend condo. It's a loved, well taken care of home. The space was warm and cozy without feeling like your living in somebody else's space. Speaking of warm, we did not use the air conditioners very much but when we needed them they cooled the place up very quickly. I think there's a total of six AC units . Great bedding and linens as well.
The location was perfect. The beach was just steps away. The house was just far enough out of the little village to get that secluded beach feeling, but within easy walking distance to the market and restaurants, so you still feel connected. We loved to walk up the beach in the morning to the mermaid statue and grab breakfast at the Rancho Hotel. Or to Alemendro's for dinner. Great food, craft beer and live music there. There were so many great sights and endless activities within 20 to 40 minutes of driving. Our host Emily was super helpful with providing us lots of info, answering questions and sorting out which activities with which companies were best. The waterfall tour she recommended was amazing!!
The caretaker on the property was very attentive without being intrusive. He was there every day with a smile cleaning the pool, setting up the lounge furniture and hammock and cutting open coconuts for us.
Everybody was happy. We had a perfect vacation and this beach house had a whole lot to do with that. Thank you so much Emily.

This was a beautiful home, a little off the beaten path with direct access to the beach. Very quiet and a beautiful setting. The caretaker, Javier, was very helpful and took very good care of us. We arrived during the rainy season and had some beautiful storms while we were there that we enjoyed watching from the beach. However, we did have problems with the phone and wi-fi due to the storms. The pool is small but nice and private and afforded a great view of the macaws that came to visit . The property is about half way between Jaco and Manuel Antonio with it's own quiet little village setting. The owner was really helpful and offered to help schedule activities for us. We had a great time and will definitely visit again!
