Stunning jungle Cabin Steps from the beach, great for families and couples

Our stay was wonderful, and the casita and property are truly amazing. The site and accommodation is better than any pictures can show, and hammocks are available everywhere :) We had all the information we needed from Fiona prior to our arrival, including advice about how to book the ferry, and Jenny and Gohanny were onsite/ accessible whenever I had special questions or needs. The amenities were plentiful and as described. We loved staying at Fiona's out of the hubbub of Montezuma and being able to explore the
Cabya community.

This is a great, open concept property. This is not our first stay here and we love it more each time. From ending the day sitting on the beach watching the sky to snorkling off Cabuya Island, kayaking to hiking to waterfalls available activities are endless. There are many excellent resturants nearby. Jenny is very responsive, even coming by to put air in bicycle tires (she also has an amazing resturant set in a garden). All in all a wonderful 10 days!

The property details are very accurate. It is remote but beautiful and right on the beach. Fiona communicated with us and Jenny was wonderful getting us checked in, laundry, and very responsive to any needs we had. The town was very friendly and helped us with our Spanish/English. Amazing. place to stay

We wish we could have spent our entire time in CR at los carocoles. Great river swim, even better seafood from next door, and an amazing fish burrito at the restaurant in town. Skip Santa Teresa and Mal Pais, just hang out in cabuya.

Beautiful location
Beautiful place and location. We were visited by monkeys, various birds and many other critters. Even had some epic thunderstorm, and I mean EPIC! Everything you could need was provided. Beds are super comfy. It's the ultimate chill location.

A little bit of paradise
Fiona, Jenny, Melissa and Geovanny do a great job keeping the property well kept and responding to our inquiries. An amazing spot to chill out. Several amazing resturants close by. Snorkeling off the north side of Cemetery Island was very nice. Loved it all!

I presume this place is one of those where you find your little Costa Rica paradise or where you rather try to make the best out of a situation. Throughout our 5 week CR trip and comparing it with 7 other similarly priced accommodations, the jungle hut was one of our lesser favorite stays.
What other guests might want to consider:
- The beach is just a couple of steps away and you can even see the sunrise through the trees from the upstairs bed.
- The downstairs bedroom can be closed with sliding doors and windows, the upstairs bedroom is surrounded by doors and windows, covered with a roof, but the construction leaves it from atop open to nature. The bathrooms have simple big holes in the walls for air and light.
- There is a lot of wildlife in and outside of the house: many birds and monkeys, the 4 dogs of the caretaker, spiders of all sizes, different types of scorpions, bats, big toads, hermit crabs, etc
- The house is close to the public road, which is very frequently used by motorbikes, quads and cars, which people enjoy racing at all times of the day.
- Every property around has many guard dogs which roam the beach and also check out the place, when the caretakers dogs are locked away. At night, the dogs of the neighborhood can be very communicative.
- As you arrive on the property with your car, it is helpful to know to follow the path and keep to the right, where you will find the jungle house. To get additional information for your check-in, you can call the property manager.
- There is one table in the hut, in front of the kitchen, which can be used by maybe three people to enjoy a meal, play games, etc.
- The first floor has a very big deck with two chairs and a hammock where one can enjoy the sound of the sea, the jungle around and the wildlife. On some evenings you might be joined by quite a load of bugs that give you company (and might keep you from talking).
- There is a safe in the downstairs bedroom, which was locked and therefore not usable. The lock to the upstairs rooms was broken, but the doors to the downstairs bedroom could be locked.

Nice beach house
This is a unique out of the way property away from any touristy areas, although a 30 min. Ride via atv or car to Malpais/Santa Teresa, on a decent dirt road with 1 water crossing, and 10-15 min. drive to Montezuma. The house is fine with hot water a 1 min. Walk through the trees to the Beach. Cabuya is not so much a town but more like spread out community with 2 small stores and good restaurants.

3 days with 12-year-old and 80-year-old
We spent 3 nights at the property and had a lovely time. Spent one day visiting the national park and one day exploring the island at low tide. Worked perfect. The food is great at the coyote cafe. My daughter loved all the crabs that came to the beach at night and I loved hanging with the howler monkeys.

We loved it here, we will definitely coming back with our family.
This accommodation was very clean and we felt very safe. We were visited by monkeys everyday which has been a highlight of our trip. We are looking forward to coming back for Christmas with our daughters.

Beach, howler monkeys and lots of nature
It was just lovely - the house, the surrounding and the beach.
We had many different animals seen in the garden, it was overwhelming.
We even made our own adventure, we created a huge stick made from bamboo to harvest the coconuts, it was really funny.
Although we could not swim due to the rocky sea, we enjoyed every day being at the beach, walking around and just having fun.
We really recommend this stay, you will love it.

seclusion in Cabuya
The cabin is beautiful as is the grounds. Capuchin monkeys are daily visitors which we enjoyed. The location is convenient to the town of Cabuya . The guest cabin is far enough from the main house to make us feel we have the world to our self. It was a very hot week when we were there making sleeping a little difficult a few nights. The kitchen is well equipped for us but we cooked very little because there are many good restaurants in town.Easy walk to a river with great shore birds to photo. Lovely sunrises. Only downside is the dusty road that is located near the cabin. The walk to town on the road requires eye and nose protective wear..

Probably the nicest accomodations in the area of Cabuya
First, I must say that management by Jenny was top rate. I was unprepared for the area. Travel to surrounding areas was by an ATV on dirt/rock roads. Extremely hot in mid-February. The beach (as reported) is very rocky and below par for the beaches in the nearby area. While all other reviews are very favorable to the dogs that accompany the property, we found that their barking throughout the night was a bit annoying. If my review is not excellent, it probably reflects my expectations (for our age...early 70s). Just a little to rugged for my taste.

I love cabuya
I love this lovely little cabin in a jungle decor on a seafront .If you like to be outside all day in a place not too touristic not to far from Montezuma ,santa theresa (with a 4X4) this is for you .fells like you are sleeping outside .

We loved staying here. The house was beautiful and the property was huge so we felt totally secluded on our own stretch of beach. We swam a lot at high tide, but beware the sea lice - they bite - but that didn't stop us from enjoying the water.Jenny (the caretaker) was also super responsive and helpful!

Idyllic Costa Rican Experience
The property is in a perfect location with the right combination of rustic, beach, and well maintained accommodations. The cabin is immaculate with 2 beds upstairs (double & twin) and a bedroom downstairs (2 twin). The beds upstairs were covered with mosquito nets which we greatly appreciated and not often offered in other rentals in the area. Given the covered but open air bedroom, we were grateful to enjoy nature without having nature "land on us" while sleeping. We enjoyed breakfast at the outdoor patio while howler and white-faced monkeys played in the trees. The beach is a few paces in front of the property, albeit a very rocky beach at low tide. The caretaker was wonderfully helpful so many ways including providing kayaks to use to paddle to Cemetery Island. This property is a gem and Jenny, the caretaker, and the owner are all lovely and extremely helpful. Wonderful experience!

Cabin as described, Cabuya not what we expected.
The property is as described and you can tell the caretakers take good care of the place. All the utensils and appliances you would need are there. We did wish there was A/C or the fan upstairs actually operated at a higher speed because it was uncomfortably warm/humid and our sheets were damp each night. There was a good fan on the downstairs patio area so we just hung out there. Although, I think the caretakers would have scrounged us up another fan for the upstairs if we had asked. Sadly, Cabuya itself was not at all what we expected. We thought we'd found a hidden jewel and great small beach, that was not the case. If we had a month or so to travel this could have been a great hideaway, but if you are looking for a beach vacation I would not recommend Cabuya. At low tide, much of the day, the beach is like a giant sheet of rock. When it is high tide and you can swim there were "pulgas" or water fleas that bit my husband mercilessly until he was afraid to swim. There are two good beaches, Montezuma and St. Teresa not too far away, but they are on really rough dirt roads. Also, which we did not consider was the commute from Liberia airport was about 5-6 hours with the last good portion being rough dirt roads. If you have awhile in Costa Rica, awesome, Cabuya might be perfect for you, definitely not touristy. The restaurants we ate at were good, there is a grocery store and we were able to buy fresh fish from our neighbor. If you have a week (like us) the commute will eat up a couple days and there is not a good beach. We left 4 days before our reservation was over and went up to Playa Langosta right outside of Tamarindo, which we loved. Thankfully, Fiona was understanding that this was our honeymoon and a very special trip for us and she refunded us for the last 3 days. It is a special place but we will not be returning.

Nature lover’s paradise
We loved being so close to the ocean and surrounded by the jungle. It is remote and rustic, yet charmingly open and airy. We heard howler monkeys early in the morning, and later saw them romping through the yard while we relaxed in the hammock. This area has a lot to explore. We enjoyed a snorkeling trip, as well as swimming at different beaches. Giovanny was helpful and friendly.

Beautifully kept property in a spectacular location
This really is a jungle cabin - you feel like you're living outdoors with all the conveniences. The kitchen has everything we needed when we chose to eat at home. The location is spectacular, just a few steps to the beach where we swam at high tide. We had visitors every morning over breakfast -- families of monkeys, cows from the field across the road, the local dogs and birds.
Cabuya is not nearly as busy as some of its neighbours with lots of places to eat out and two grocery stores. We took trips to Montezuma and the beaches round there - would highly recommend the restaurant at the butterfly gardens. And, because it was the dry season, could take the shortcut over the hilll to Santa Teresa... loved the beach at Playa Hermosa.
Our whole experience was made so much better by the wonderful Jenny who's just a phone call away to fix anything that arises. Thank you, Jenny and Fiona, for a great visit.

Relaxing, Fun and Beautiful!
We very much enjoyed our time at Fiona's jungle cabin. The ocean is indeed right outside your door. The house is rustic but exactly what we were looking for. We visited the natural reserve several times where we saw lots of wildlife. The restaurants in Cabuya were perfect for us though we did venture into the "larger" cities, a few times - we just kept going back to the smaller restaurants in Cabuya. Neither my husband or myself speak Spanish except for a few words yet the locals were patient with us. Not many of them speak English, except for Jenny, who is amazing. We had a great time getting to know her, and eating at her fabulous restaurant. If there is anything you need ... ask Jenny! Even her daughter jokingly told me that, "Jenny knows everything."
We walked out to cemetery island - it was awesome! We jumped into the ocean several times a day in lots of different spots. We love to snorkel, but this was not that trip. We took a paid snorkel trip via a boat, had a great time overall but the snorkeling compared to other countries/locations was not great. Not complaining at all - like I said previously we were looking to experience Costa Rica and what it had to offer.
We loved everything about this trip. We were not looking for a resort-y or luxury vacation, rather we wanted to experience a true Costa Rica small town. That is exactly what Fiona's place gave us.

Perfect place for a tranquil getaway
Spent three weeks with various friends at the cabin in January and loved the setting, particularly the sunrises over the beach. The house has everything necessary for a comfortable stay including strategically placed hammocks from which to watch the howler monkey troop on their regular visits. Swimming was fine whenever the tide was high, and we found it easy to walk into Cabuya's several good restaurants in the evening or to the two shops to stock up on food. Jenny and Fiona were both very helpful and accessible, and Jenny can help in ATV rental and arranging shuttles. Good Wifi connection, bus to Montezuma stops outside the door, and although Cabuya is tiny, its charms develop the longer you stay. I'm looking forward to returning...

Heaven on earth
This is one of our favourite places we've ever stayed. And we travel a lot. The house itself is stunning, and waking up in the treetops to the sun rising over the beach-- incredible. Both the caretaker and Jenny, who runs the local el coyote cafe, were so nice, and helpful at every turn. Tremendous value for the money and a place we will certainly return to.

Perfect beach house experience
A beach house that is the perfect quiet, relaxing base to stay all day there or from which to explore the beautiful peninsula. The open style made us feel we were really living in the forest, especially when the howler monkeys come through. Beautiful trees and birds all around. The sand beach in front of the house has glorious sunrises - and is lovely for swimming at high tide - take trainers as it is stony in the water. There are restaurants nearby, Montezuma 5k's away and plenty more great beaches and forest to explore. And all around the interesting, small community of Cabuya. I highly recommend having your own car as there is a lot to explore . The grocery shop is just a walk away from the beach house. It's really lovely to just relax at the beach house too on the upstairs verandah in the hammock.

perfect unique beach house for relaxing vacation!
we loved this house and location. the caretakers are very nice, and keep the grounds very well kept. the property is just feet off the beach, so just a few steps through the palm trees you can find a hammock to relax in, or pretty much your own private beach! some days when the tide is low, the beach is so rocky, but we didn't mind & it was fun to see where the water water was every day. it's good to have a car in the area~ montezuma is just 25 min drive down, & cabuya just down the road, with just a few resturaunts which are great, but we were also happy to go to the market & cook at home/eat outside at the cool tree house type home. also many popular beaches on west coast just about 1 hr away, but we really preferred the quite beach and house right there. the bedroom upstairs is beautiful, with big windows all around for nice tree top views, and a bathroom as well. the main road that goes through this area is right behind house, so just a bit loud at night on weekends, but no problem for us. we loved this house~ just 2 of us, but would be great for 4 as well. perfect place to stay in the area, & for a real costa rican experience!! thank you!

Sweet little love shack
This Jungle Cabin, has two outstanding features: the beauty of the place where it is standing, and the care that the owners have imprinted onto the maintenance of the garden-jungle that separates the beach from the cabin.
This little cabin's backyard is a natural private beach with tall trees providing beautiful sets of shadows on top of curvy paths that lead to the ocean. That point, and the hammocks on the almost deserted beach made our stay. The neighbors are friendly and there's a cafeteria with a good selection of bakery treats.
Id recommend renting a car to go visit nearby spots and if you want to see more populated neighboring beachtowns, but you'll be safe to know that you'll be back to your own beach after your little expedition. Highly recommended for couples with or without children.

Perfect private retreat
The cabin was perfect for us--very quiet, private, and beach steps away. Liked the hammocks along the beach. Melissa and her husband were very pleaant and helpful;. their two dogs were our constant companions around the cabin and on walks outside the property. A nearby hotel offered the use of their pool and also serve food and drinks if you desire.. The next door fisherman caught fish for us one day and we cooked them up in our kitchen. Everything was just as we had hoped for if you want privacy and solitude. Small wonderful bakery and small grocery store within walking distance. Close to Cabo Blanco for jungle walks.
