We came to the area to ski Lutsen for a few days, and this was the perfect spot to rest after a day on the slopes. Quiet. Private. Wonderful.

This place was super closer close to everything especially the ski resort. We had a great time and enjoyed our stay. The kitchen had everything we need to cook dinners

This cabin was perfectly secluded with a gorgeous view of the lake. Well stocked with linens, very functional kitchen for cooking in. Communication with John was great. Being dog friendly was the cherry on top!

We had a great stay with great views in a peaceful setting just minutes from Lutsen.

A peaceful cabin with beautiful views

The cabin was very cozy, clean and comfortable. There is an awesome fire pit outside with a lot of wood for a fire. We were there to relax and visit friends in the area. John did check in with us to make sure everything was good. Though not on the lake the view was great! Will be going back and recommend it to friends

My wife and I, plus our two dogs, had a great stay at the Lutsen Bunkhouse. The property is an amazing base site for enjoying the North Shore in the Lutsen area. We really enjoyed talking with John, the owner, and look forward to coming back in the future. Just a great place to relax!

The bunk was very cozy and we felt very relaxed there. The trees had beautiful color all around. We could access some nice walks/hikes right from the cabin. Had a nice fire pit, but we never had a fire.
Would recommend this place 100%.

We spent a quick weekend in the bunkhouse for my wife’s birthday with our two kids and neurotic dog (who was also celebrating his birthday). We were surprised at how secluded the cabin felt despite being so close to the Lutsen ski area. The living spaces are comfortable and we had a lot of fun cooking, puzzling, and adventuring. The host recommended a quick hike with great fall colors that was the perfect length for kids and had an amazing view. Unfortunately we ran into some soggy weather so we didn’t hike the property as much as we would have liked, but that also gives us a good reason to return.

We had an excellent time at this cabin. We enjoyed the large fire pit. It is secluded, up a private dirt road. My daughter loved hanging out on the swing in the front yard. The master bedroom is large. The pictures show a bunkbed, but there is not one. There are two beds in a second bedroom. The host was responsive.

Nice cabin not too far off the main drag. Lutsen location close to Cascade State Park, Grand Marais and other amenities up Hwy 61. We did take an afternoon trip up to the High Falls on the Pigeon river from both the US and Canada sides and then Thunder Bay Ontario (about 2 hours from the cabin).

We hit terrible weather on the day of our reservation on our way up. Property owner wouldn't refund a penny. And when I asked if he'd prorate the stay on later dates, that was impossible.
Greed.

This property is a great mix of privacy and proximity to main attractions of the North Shore. Plenty of space to spread out and the setting/view is hard to beat.

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the bunkhouse! It was quiet and peaceful...just what we needed! The cabin is really cute and cozy. We enjoyed the photos and decor, especially the moose photos! We enjoyed relaxing at the cabin, walking the dirt road, throwing rocks in Lake Superior, and exploring the surrounding cities. We definitely recommend eating at Bluefin Grill!

John was a great host from the time of initial booking to check out. My husband and I had a beautiful quiet weekend together with our dogs by our side. Loved sitting on the giant swing in the front yard and enjoying the view of Lake Superior.

We had a wonderful time. John’s cabin is situated in a beautiful woods. It was clean and comfortable, and we spent a lot of time on the outside porch and deck. The weather was beautiful and we absolutely love that gigantic Great Lake that is just a moment away.

Had to call the owner to get code. He said door was open. Would have been good to have been notified that early in the day rather than worrying about receiving a code. Dirty towels were left on the floor in the washer dryer area. Didn't bother us because we didn't use 2nd bedroom. Remote to TV - the volume didn't work on it. Bedroom slider door wouldn't lock...basically place was left unlocked the whole time. Owner is very nice though. He checked up on us and offered tips on where to go and what to see. We enjoyed sitting on the deck and looking at Lake Superior. It was real quiet except for Friday nite when the neighbors a house over had a big ruckus. We hoped a bear would walk by the house but all we saw was a skunk walking around the yard. Overall, enjoyed the stay.

We had a great stay at the Bunkhouse. It was perfect for our sister hiking weekend. Easy access to the Superior Hiking Trail and a great place to relax after a long day of hiking. John is a very responsive host and made sure we had everything we needed.

We liked the location and the cabin was ok. The cabin had no smoke detectors. I am pretty sure that is against all fire codes. The sliding door did not lock, we found a stick and put in the door for safety. The cabin needed an extetminator. We got eaten up by spiders. Both my husband and I had tons of bite marks all over our head & neck (were not mosquito bites). We woke up with them on our heads & neck.

Our family with young kids had a great stay at John’s cabin. It’s very secluded but still close to lots of things to do. Spacious for our family of four, nice screened in porch, propane grill, lots of fire wood. Very clean! And very nice to have washing machine on site. The hammock chair with a view of Lake Superior was a really nice place to relax. Highly recommend!

Cozy, clean cabin in Lutsen. Great location to State Parks, hiking & 2 nice General Stores.
Blizzard of 6-10 inches Snow, with 32 mph winds. Tow needed. 4x4 vehicle might have helped. Communication with owner very good. Was our Second stay. Will be back as weather warms!

Overall, we had a great experience at this rental. It wasn't exactly as we had expected-a lot has changed since the photos in the listing were posted. The second "bedroom" worked perfectly for our 2 and 4 year old kids. The kitchen was well-equipped with everything we needed. No issues with anything not working. All of the rooms stayed warm and cozy and we appreciated the fireplace in the master bedroom. This space was more than enough for our family of 4 to spread out, play, and rest. Loved being so close to the mountain for skiing.
We didn't have any issues that we needed to communicate with the owner about, but when we had a check out question, he answered right away.
One challenge was that the road into the property and the driveway were extremely muddy (I realize we probably hit one of the worse weeks of the year for this). I was glad we had a good vehicle to deal with the mix of mud and ice on that road and driveway. To add to that challenge, the garage was very full of odds/ends that made it difficult to fit our car in there and unload our young kids from their car seats, but we didn't want to park in the driveway because we'd be ankle deep in mud. Again, I recognize this is just the time of year, but it would have been nice to have a little more garage space because of this or even a paved walkway to the front door.
Thanks for letting us stay here! We'd definitely stay again.

This is our second time staying at John's place, and we loved it just as much as we did the first time! We brought our two dogs, who loved playing outside in the snow. Everything we wanted to do was only a short drive away. Even with the fantastic restaurants around the area, having a full kitchen was always a nice option if we didn't feel like going out. We couldn't have asked for a better home base. We would love to stay here again!

We spent the week at the Bunkhouse for spring break. Snowmobiling and skiing, a great mix of fun. The Bunkhouse is a great location for both and the conditions were excellent.
John is easy to get a hold of and made our stay even better.

This cabin is beautifully located. The view is absolutely amazing. It was a very short drive to get up to Lutsen Mountains for skiing. We enjoyed coming back after skiing to the cabin. Overall we loved our stay at the Lutsen Bunkhouse and would definitely come back in the future.

We stayed for 4 nights midweek to snowmobile in the area. Was able to easily ride from the cabin, and lots of great trail options nearby. The cabin was well equipped. Wifi worked well, with Dish TV and Roku. Beds were comfortable, and kitchen had everything we needed. Driveway was plowed one morning following a 4 inch snowstorm. Everything you need, and John is very responsive and offers great advice on the local area activities.

This is our second visit and we love it here! Quiet, clean, all the amenities we could need. Nice that you can see a bit of the lake. There’s no road noise from the highway or the road up to Lutsen mountain. Perfect!
