Clean well equipped apartment

Location was excellent. Easy walking distance to town, supermarket, railway station, river walkway. Comfortable bed. Staff on duty were friendly and helpful. The owner was away for the weekend.

The unit was quite dirty. The photos attached show the blinds next to the kitchen bench, the dirt from the ledge around the kitchen bench (food preparation area), the rather disgusting stain on the couch that doesnt bear thinking about how it got there, and the drawer under the coffee table with a previous occupants toy, dirt and hair still in it - obviously not cleaned. It was "tired" - broken soap dish holder in the shower. When we pointed this out to the staff on duty she was helpful and understanding but little was done to remedy the situation. Our stay was for 4 nights and there were cleaners on duty each day. The carer took photos and said she would discuss with the owner - who returned after we left. We heard nothing from the owner for several days and in the end I had to contact them. His response was rude and he couldnt see the problem with what he considered were the "minor" issues that we had raised. No apology or suggestion of some financial recompense for staying in a unit that wasnt cheap but was substandard. Very unprofessional. My further emails to them got no response. I will post the photos that we took and leave it up to you to decide it you would stay in a unit like this - given the price and the unprofessional owners. We certainly wont be. Having read the owners response I need to add to this review. All I can say is that they are just lies. Why would we stay at a motel with the intention of getting a refund??? Quite bizarre. Blaming us for the damage is also quite bizarre. One thing he was right about - Neil was embarrassed - not with his wife but about the condition of the unit. Still no mention of an apology - perhaps an indication of the character of the person running this motel? We have since travelled on a trip in the South Island with a group and stayed at a number of motels - the standard was excellent and nothing was as dirty as this was. And the owners were very professional and pleasant.

It was a beautifully presented room; modern, large and clean. Near to the shops. Had parking. Room we had was quiet.
