L’appartement était immense et le plafond superbe. L’emplacement au sein d’un Riad est exceptionnel et rempli d’histoire. La nourriture était excellente, certes plus chère qu’en ville mais de très bonne qualité.

J’ai tout aimé : la beauté de ce palais au charme suranné du début du XXeme siècle, les magnifiques Zelliges, la suite spacieuse empreinte d’histoire dans laquelle nous logions, l’accueil chaleureux du propriétaire, du personnel, le confort, la propreté, le calme le petit déjeuner copieux, la petite piscine et son jardin secret mais aussi la maladresse parfois des travaux de restauration fort coûteux.

a fantastic experience to stay in a former palace

It is quite run down on the exterior (courtyard had peeling paint, missing tile, non-working fountains, etc.) and interior had plumbing problems galore (leaking sink, leaking toilet, and clogged shower drain. The stove didn’t work except on the lowest setting. There was only one drinking glass and know kitchen knife. There are no screens on the windows (only bars) and a cat came in one night and rummaged through our things before scaring us to death.

The fittings should be modernised.

We loved the genuinely historical Moroccan decor of this very spacious 2-bedroom/2bathroom apartment with its colourful tiling and arched windows. The lavish number of comfortable couches with their supportive cushions were a joy after a day out, as was the opportunity to make tea (a kettle was provided) and have it at the table and chairs at our front door. The communal pillared courtyard gave us pleasure and other guests were friendly but quiet. Beds were big and comfortable: extra blankets were available. There was plenty hot water: both air conditioning and heating worked. Kitchen equipment was adequate and the dining table was big with solid chairs. The clothes rack was useful for hanging up the towels. We were met by the owner, who dealt promptly with requests (including anti-mosquito devices) and provided meals and transport at reasonable prices. The fridge was big and modern and we did our week's grocery shopping at a Carrefour supermarket ( a 5-minute taxi ride away). We can recommend the restaurant at Palais Faraj by the nearby Bab Ziat gate. Petits taxis were easy to find at that spot too.

The description of the property lists both a microwave and a washing machine. Neither was there. The satellite TV did not work. The palace renovation is a work in progress and the entrance is thoroughly unprepossessing. Access to the property on foot is steep and taxis did not always take us to the door. Provisions in the immediate area are very limited.

This place is absolutely breathtaking - the pictures don’t begin to do it justice. The breakfasts we ate there were very good, as was the dinner we had one evening. Very quiet and peaceful location, but only about a 10 minute walk from the medina. The medina is very chaotic and noisy, so it was wonderful to come back to our apartment and sit in the tranquil courtyard.
