On arrival we were greeted by tammy who explained all about the cabin and how far it dated back, cablin is decorated in period style but with all the mod cons you would need. We were travelling around Kentucky and this was the perfect place to unwind. Enjoyed meeting captain and the fairy show at night.

After several months of medical treatment and with more to come, we found one weekend where we could get away. I needed a change of scenery and to feel like I was doing something normal. We didn't want to spend to much time traveling so we picked Louisville, 2 hours away and near our son and daughter-in-law. Captains Cabin provided just what we needed. It felt like we had really gone on vacation! It was perfect. In my communication with the owner I had shared my medical situation and the hosts went over and above making us feel cared for. Our son and daughter in law came over one evening and fell in love with the place and are thinking of trying to stay there for their baby moon! Thank you Captain's Cabin for the best weekend getaway we could have imagined.

Karl and Melanie from Alabama:
Amazing, authentic,1800's log cabin with all the modern amenities (A/C, Fridge, Microwave, Stove/Oven, Coffee Pot, Keurig and a Sleep Number Bed). Our hosts, Jan and Tammy & Captain their very calm dog, welcomed us and we immediately felt like we had been long time neighbors. Jan and Tammy were both there for us if we needed anything but also gave us our space.
Melanie and I were there to visit our daughter who recently relocated to Louisville. We unloaded a U-Haul full of her things and the cabin was the perfect place to rest, and recover. We spent hours each morning just sitting on the front porch drinking coffee and taking in the beautiful setting. On Saturday and Sunday Tammy brought delicious gourmet breakfasts to our front door (Bacon Egg and Cheese Croissants, Cheese Grits and a Bourbon Apple Pie Saturday, and a Sausage/Egg/ Cheese/Hash Brown Casserole, a Raisin Bourbon Bread Pudding and a huge bowl of Blueberries, Strawberries, and Grapes with Balsamic Vinegar on Sunday). Trust me, I'm a regular ole grits and eggs guy...It was all delicious.
The surroundings are full of beautiful flowers and trees. It's just a short walk (or you can drive) to the creek or pond. The fire pit sits down from the cabin in the open area below Jan and Tammy's house We saw deer, ducks rabbits, a weasel, and the creek is full of crawdads.
We had a wonderful time visiting with our daughter and playing in the creek. Jan and Tammy were wonderful hosts as well.

The property is more like a rustic museum than a cabin on the water to enjoy & canoe. The property was listed with a lake and waterfall view with the ability to use the canoe. The view from the front porch was simply overgrown trees. The area is quite noisy due to a local road. The water (man-made pond-reservoir) is 1/4 mile down the road and visible from the owner's driveway. You can canoe at your own risk due to the shallow water & no paddles. No access point to water & you would have to transport the canoe the 1/4 mile to the water. The property listed ability to have a fire. No fire pit was available & the inside fireplace had candles in it for the summer. There was wood available but no screen on the fireplace and no outside pit as stated. There was a t.v. as stated & you could put it anywhere you like, and even plug it in, but no data is running to it...so NO TV. There was cheese and stale crackers, a nice bottle of wine and two homemade bourbon candies to greet us. Ad also fails to mention that the cabin sits just feet away from the owner's property, although they were not home during our stay. The continental breakfast would definitely no sustain us had we stayed our entire stay. The egg cups where so salty I could not eat them. Dry biscuits are not a breakfast choice of ours. The fruit and yogurt were delicious. Needless to say, our money went to waste as we left after the first night of our 4-night stay. The back porch is not safe and needs repair.

Very secluded & private. Host is amazing- went above & beyond to ensure a peaceful stay. The only negative- the bed was extremely hard & uncomfortable

Beautiful, well maintained cottage. We loved it! We wished we could have stayed longer. Very close to local activities and the airport.

This location was exactly as described. It was one of most interesting and quite different from the average property. If you like the feel of a rustic cabin in the woods with amazing scenery, then this is a great spot. The hosts were incredibly hospitable and kind. The house has all of the basic needs and more. I appreciate being able to experience this one.

Property owner responsive and polite. The cabin itself is accurately represented in pictures. Loved the wood burning fireplace. Wifi perfect. Based off the property listing, it was not as private as I had hoped. When we arrived, 9 crackers, 2 small cheese cubes and wine were on the table. Don’t drink, so wine was left. Several kitchen food items were expired (coffee, microwave popcorn and hot chocolate add-ins). The breakfast was the biggest disappointment… one small dry biscuit, 3 (half pieces) candied bacon and cheesy eggs. When it states “you won’t go hungry” - we left to go get food. It is sweet place but not worth the price I paid at all. What we experienced, it feels like a $175 per night (all in). We overpaid by a lot!

Such a neat old cabin! It was beautifully decorated with all of the amenities you’d need today. There is a microwave in the pantry closet which I didn’t find until day 2 so that made things much easier. Breakfast was wonderful and all of the local recommendations were greatly appreciated!

We were in Louisville for an early Christmas celebration with family. We spent the mornings and evenings at the house and loved every minute. Such a sweet place and terrific hosts. We will be back, if they’ll have us. 5 star stay, thank you.

We were visiting family in the area, so we did not spend as much time at the cabin as most guests would. The breakfasts were very nice and delicious. The bedding and the bed are very comfortable. We slept very well. It was so quiet. It’s hard to believe that you are in the middle of Suburban Louisville when you have such a beautiful wooded area with a nice pond with a blue heron and mallards to greet you every morning.

The accommodations were amazing - so many little Revolutionary War details - and everything in the cabin was squeaky clean!! We enjoyed meeting both hosts and really loved the cooking class.
A couple of constructive criticisms though: since they are focused on "relaxing" and not worrying about anything, it would really be nice to have curtains in the bedroom!! But instead --- We were both woken up super early by the sunlight streaming into the bedroom. We really wanted to sleep in but was unable to sleep beyond 6:30 am - the sun was strong!! Two, it was clear in the property notes that there was only a tub and no shower but.....it would be nice to have a shower "hose" available to attach to the faucet for the tub. They are not super expensive and it would be a nice option. The available "pitcher" was not really a viable option for washing my hair nor did my husband think it was easy to use to rinse himself off after his bath. He said It was super awkward....
All in all a relaxing weekend in general but the above items, especially the sunlight streaming in at 6 AM, detracted from it a lot.

We had a lovely stay at this cabin in the woods! The details inside were so perfect! The hosts were lovely. It was so quiet and peaceful and we wished we had been able to stay longer to explore the property more. We will definitely try to go back!

Lots of interesting vintage things to enjoy inside and outside of cabin.
The hosts greeted us and made sure we had everything we needed for our stay!
Wonderful Fully equipped kitchen; however Louisville has great places to eat so we took advantage of that😁
Excellent place to stay if you are looking to explore Louisville!

The cabin is everything the pictures show, rustic and awesome! The moment we pulled in and seen that the owners, who are very nice, live right next door to the cabin! My husband and I wanted a cabin in a secluded place, to be alone for 3 nights. We chose to stay one night and move on the next day to our relatives In Tennessee. Sorry but this did not meet what our expectations were.

My wife and I were looking for a night away from home, work, and the city. We wanted a place to disconnect. So, we were pleasantly surprised to find such a cozy retreat so close to home. The location is great, the hosts are experienced, and the property matched or exceeded our expectations. We will stay here again. Thanks!

My husband and I were beyond impressed with the cleanliness of this property, the whole cabin really exceeded our expectations. Beautifully decorated. Breakfast was amazing. We spent a lot of time relaxing together on the front porch and just taking in all the nature around us. My favorite part about our stay was watching the thunderstorms from the porch.

Stay at this property if you love original cozy log cabins and historical artifacts. This is a perfect couples retreat tucked at the end of a lane in the woods. Your host is not far away and brings home cooked breakfast to your table in the morning. She also offers cooking classes at her home where she teaches even a seasoned cook such as myself a thing or two in the kitchen then welcomes you to sit and leisurely enjoy the meal along with her and her husband Jan. They even brought us homemade ice cream on our second night. I’m sure if we lived closer I’d invite them to a dinner at my house as well. They felt like old friends. While this was a relaxing spot, it was close to JeffersonTown where we very much enjoyed the farmers market. There are plenty of eateries and shops and it’s a quick drive to distilleries and wineries. Honestly, we loved sitting on the porch, sipping wine and watching the lighting bugs.

My wife and I chose Captain's Cabin for our anniversary trip. We were extremely happy with our stay, with every little detail taken care of. The hosts were friendly and attentive, the cabin combined historical charm with modern convenience, and the location was convenient to downtown Louisville, nearby shopping, and for a day trip to Mammoth Cave. It had the feel of a wooded retreat, yet convenient to major highways.

We really enjoyed our stay here. It was one of the most unique places we've stayed. The cabin and surrounding property gave a very secluded and outdoor feeling while providing easy access to the amenities of the city. The hosts were very nice and accommodating the entire time.

We will certainly be back.

Let me tell you this was one of the coolest places we have ever been. Starting a fire every morning in the massive limestone fireplace with my coffee in hand and ending the day in the clawfoot tub with my wine was just the icing on the cake. Tammy and Jan were wonderful and so inviting and we were even greated by the Captain himself (their very sweet dog) upon arrival and our comings and goings. The food was great along with all the little extras. Tammy and Jan really put alot of thought love and hardwork into their cabin and it really shows. Would highly recommend such a comfortable cozy retreat.

Our hosts were friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The cabin was just as pictured, with a fire waiting for us on the night we arrived. The homemade breakfasts were out of this world. We had a fabulous time as a couple and would definitely stay again if we ever get a chance to return to the Louisville area.

My partner and I are super big history buffs and wanted to get away from it all so we decided to have a weekend trip up to a cabin. This cabin had everything we were looking for - an original logframe cabin with modern amenities, a giant fireplace and clawfoot bathtub, surrounded by nature, and only 15 minutes from home! Tammy's cooking was wonderful and it was so fun to pick Jan's brain about history and his historical reenactments and both were wonderful hosts. The cabin is full of beautiful architecture and decor, and feels very rustic while still being modern and feels like you are out in the woods despite being in the middle of a large city. We already have friends who are asking about it to visit after seeing photos from our trip! :)

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this property and its hosts! The cabin is dated to the 1800’s and is full of historical mementos with modern amenities sprinkled throughout! From the cozy fireplace to the sleep number bed- we were more than comfortable! The communication with the hosts was excellent and their hospitality went above and beyond! We were left a bottle of wine, a breakfast basket with an option of a hot breakfast, and the most amazing homemade bourbon balls! Such a treasure in a beautiful setting. We will definitely return to this incredible property!

It was okay the host jan was overall better with communication! Other than tammy she was a little stereotypical which was very intimidating. but the time i did spend there was good and i got to get the work done i needed to do while i was there.
