location due to being near steam railway I have stayed hear many times and it never disapointing good breakfast

this is a very minor thing the young lad at check in good have smiled just once

Booked a 'Railway Room' which gave a good view of the narrow guage steam railway across the road, which was the purpose of booking the room.

1) We had booked half board accomondation and on the third and final night of our stay we went down to dinner in the hotel restaurant and were told we should have booked a table. No mention had been made of this previously and we had not experienced any seating issues on the first two nights. On the third night we also had to embarrassingly prove that we had booked Half Board before being served. As a result it was an hour before being served our first course and it took a total of two hours to serve us a two course meal. This was unacceptable . 2) At check out there were problems with the vendors Booking.com display and this resulted in a delayed check out. I had asked to see the manager regarding the Half Board incident but he was not there. 3) The City Tax had to be paid in cash which we have not had to do at any other hotels we stayed at in the area. 4) The en-suite Bath room had an awkward step up around it and the bath floor was curved and slightly slippery. No rubber matting provided.

Third visit here during several years. Perfect location for public transport, excellent breakfast and good choice for dinner, including Hasseroder Schwatrz beer.

600m from the town centre. 200m from the railway station. The venue is also a good centre for driving around the local region.

Location, location, location (at breakfast, you can watch them coaling the narrow gauge steam locomotives). Restaurant food's not bad, either, and they have a decent (but not brilliant) breakfast buffet. Under 10 minutes walk from the railway station.

The bed. I had difficulty sleeping the first two nights.

A nice warm room, on the ground floor, giving a view of the railway yards and sheds. A walk across the street gives great photo opportunities. Easy to find, good car park, and a short walk into town.

Great lack of professionalism from the restaurant staff, especially in table booking and breakfast service. There is supposed to be a table booking system, but it seemed ineffective as people continued to sit and drink after their meal, Food which is supposed to be hot (eg scrambled eggs and sausages) wasn't. Coffee was not made fresh, but standing in flasks, hence only slightly warm. When they ran out of tea, nobody had the initiative to go out to supermarket and buy some more! The staff could do with being educated that there is more to being customer focused than clearing empty dishes!

Location was good and nice to see the steam trains from room and restaurant. Breakfast choice was good.

Staff were less than welcoming and even made us feel like a nuisance when we went to go for a meal. Was given a timescale to eat and was sat away from window despite restaurant virtually empty for entire time we were there. Bed was very uncomfortable and disliked the hard flooring, made the room very cold and unwelcoming. No english channels on tv and not allowed to connect phone to play our own films. Parking was very limited however was told to park across rd which was ok but can imagine if hotel full would be difficult. Wouldnt bother returning, too many other places that would be more comfortable and value our custom

The service in the Restaurant left a lot to be desired . Waiter missed starter on one occasion and the draft beer was appalling , flat . Also it took over 50 minutes to receive main course on last evening

Bring close to the Harz mountain steam rail station. The trains are operating through out the day and onto the evening where you can see them while having breakfast and Dinner.

Slow check in process, as it’s done in a very narrow corridor.Only one person can be checked in at a time. Also people buying train tickets for steam train journeys also in same queue slowing things down even more. People must also walk past queues to access dinning/breakfast area. Very messy layout.

For train-travellers and train-lovers, the location of the hotel was excellent, being 5 minutes walk from the station with a view of the track. It was also very accessible to the town centre and the castle. We loved the breakfast selection - we could even have bacon and scrambled egg which isn't always available in a continental breakfast.

The room was very noisy at night due to traffic noise. It was very hot when we were there so we had the windows open. I bought some earplugs which were effective.

Railway theme, proximity to the rail and bus stations

The hotel location, used as base to tour the area on motorbikes, roads are superb.
