Sent five emails no response from property regarding transport to property and tours. Staff nice bit know very little about getting to sites, cost open times, etc just try to sell overpriced tour. Kitchen facility limited supplies and not clean.

Amazing staff! It was my first time in Brazil and I was travelling alone, I did not know what to expect. It was an unforgettable experience. On their time off, they showed me around and gave me ideas on where to go. I felt welcomed the minute I walked in. The location is perfect! Close to the beaches , supermarkets and metro station. There’s a pool, a bar area ,kitchen. The rooms are air-conditioned. Breakfast is not included but is a fair price !Definitely recommend this hostel!

Excellent place to stay. The hostel itself was good, but it was particularly the staff that made it an incredible experience. I feel it would be a great choice, whether travelling alone of as a couple (as we were).

Manuela, Brian, and pretty much everyone there was wonderful. Staff was very helpful and sweet. Place is about 5 blocks from Copacabana beach (great location for very little money). It has wifi. We had a private room with a double bed in a private bathroom, it was a great and convenient accommodation. It is the equivalent of 1 to 1.5 stars motel place in Southern CA. We bought a package which included breakfast, it is basic but good, coffee, juice, breads, sweet bread, ham, eggs, fruit, and a panini maker. Its basic but helpful to start you off in the mornings. AC worked well. Linen was old, but luckily we had brought our own sheets and pillow cases anticipating that. It made for a better stay. Bed is comfortable. No theft problems in private room. Housekeeping staff is friendly and accommodating. If you want comfort and higher stars, this is not your place. We went during Carnaval and prices were extraordinarily expensive in Copacabana, so we had no choice, but had a wonderful time nevertheless. We are used to 5 star resorts, even so, we made do and had a great time. Dormitories look like they have no AC, and are not comfortable, but were not really sure since it was a removed area from our room. If you arrive during the day take metro (subway) from airport, get off on Sierra Campos station, and take a 3 dollar taxi to hostel from metro station (less than 3 minutes from station). Have fun!

It was all very good. Everything had excellent quality. I recommend to everybody. There is a swimming pool that gives the place a charm. There is a space where you can make your barbecue and a bar where they serve delicious caipirinhas.

The staff at Bamboo Rio were very friendly and welcoming. For the price it is a great place to stay. You meet alot of people from different countries. The caipirinha special is awesome every night. It is about 3 blocks to the beach. Would definitely recommend.

This is all bad: I shudder just thinking about the bed bugs that I could phisically see crawling on my sheets. This is not my first hostel and Ive had WAY better experiences in other countries.
You get sheets that slip off during the night so your skin makes contact with the matress but you`re too hot to move and too broke to go elsewhere. ´
A few of the other travelers were up all night in their drunken revelries, being loud and coming in and out of the room in the middle of the night turning on the lights.
The pool water was murky and I would not recommend anyone going in there.
Bathrooms were scarce and uncomfortable- shower/toilet combo. Floor matts were gross.
There were NO COMPUTERS when I was there, so after being mugged at knifepoint at the Arches of Lapa, I had to go to another internet place and pay to use the computer to contact my family.

Manuela and Carol receptionists are wonderful to wake and end day with...dipping pool is nice to have...beautiful mountainside breakfast area...all balanced out by a devotion to horrible almost cave den-like sleeping arrangements, but though, you can still sleep like a baby, because they give you 30 minutes of free caparinhas.

The Bamboo Rio Hostel has an interesting opposites contrast for each of the areas of features:The day girls, Manuals and Caroline are real sweet smiling Brazilieras as one hopes to see when coming from around the world and looks at tourist books. And the manager woman is great. The evening bartender in October 2016 is very laid back and has amazing English fluency and local knowledge happy to share. The lobby area, with tiny dipping pool, and leading up to bar/breakfast area has outstanding decoration and natural beauty (the back wall of breakfast area is a mountain)If you dont speak portuguese, the night shift guy might ignore you for ten minutes while youre standing in front of him, while he chats to friends on phone...the receptionist, BALTAZAR has a local hostelers reputation for being a bit of a nightmare to deal with, and turns away many potential guests...he can be very aggressive with dealings/speaking and quite unpleasant to deal with for weary nervous travelers. You have to arrive early and if he is there, come back later and check in when the afternoon girl is there. The beds are a bit inexcusably disgusting. But they offer an hour of free caparinhas in the bar most nights so you end up having a great nightnights sleep...Staff is very cautious about theft, as if it is regular problem.

It was a good hostel to meet new friends. They had a happy hour which where making the people meet in a natural way.
The reception was good. If you where wondering something they always had a great attitude and knowledge!
The wi-fi was bad and it was almost unusable in the room. My room was next to the bar so if you wanted to sleep early or sleep in it was almost impossible due to the music.
It was very close to the Copacabana beach which made it pretty easy to get there by foot and the metro was only 5 minutes away.
