Only issue was access due to construction

Anyone who has read a few reviews can see there is construction going on out front, there is a cost for parking and it isn't all that convenient, and that it is an older property that could use a refresh. There's a reason it's currently significantly cheaper than nearby properties. It's well worth the price.

Good clean comfortable place. Construction all around it. Parking less than ideal.

We really enjoy our stay interior parking and we could walk inside to restaurants and casino from interior of this place

All I can say is the room was good, clean great location but they have a serious issue with their WIFI. I made a call at the desk, tell them the issue and the response was, can I call you back which they never did. Not to concern about service.

Slightly dated, but overall good hotel. Wifi wasn’t great for those who need to take zoom calls remotely.

When checking in, I was completely unaware that visa debit would not be accepted. The clerk was unapologetic and made me feel stupid for not knowing this. I don’t have credit card, and have never had an issue anywhere else using visa debit. I would also like to add that the room didn’t seem to be cleaned well. There was a dirty napkin on the floor when we got there.

There was no parking. Even just to check in and drop off your bags. There was a 10 minute walk to the closest place you can park just to check in. Then after checking in you have to move your vehicle to a parkade a few blocks away. If you've got a lot of luggage prepare yourself for a hike and pack a lunch for the journey of just checking in to this hotel. Front end staff want very knowledgeable in local restaurants. I asked where a good place to eat was near by and she didn't know and started searching on the internet for us. I told her nevermind, i can do that myself.

Great reception staff. The receptionist kindly allocated me great room with a view looking uphill to the Citadel. So helpful and efficient. Hotel is perfectly located for downtown Halifax.

The hotel is a little out of date. It was clean though.

Booked at 830am. After 3pm they still didn’t have room ready or my reservation. They should indicate that “free parking” is no longer available on this as it’s under construction. I picked this location for parking as I have 2 kids under 3. The room needs to be cleaned up and repaired. Mirrors damaged and bathtub. The wallpaper is peeling. The carpet outside the room is loose from the ground. Asked the staff 3 times for a crib to be put in the room and finally got one at 8pm without sheets for it. The staff needed to be pushed but they were very accommodating. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone. Needs a major up date.

Not their fault about the road construction so not holding any accountability for that, however, There was quite a bit of long black hair in and around the bathroom area (tub, toilet, sink, etc). Made me question the cleanliness of the rest of the room. AC didn't work well. Set to 62F to get to a nearly chilled temp. Windows don't even crack open so couldn't use outside air to cool down either. Finally, room service replaced towels etc and clearly had been in the room to service, but did not make the bed which I found very odd.

Rooms were not cleaned daily, we had to call three times for towels. We were told someone would be sent up to do our room and they didn’t show up. I spoke with the manager and he gave me a discount on my final bill to compensate for the lack of service which he attributed to a computer problem. The location is perfect and the restaurant , when open, was good.

The road in front of the hotel is under a huge construction project. The parking is a maze to get from parking into the hotel, although the hotel gives you VERY detailed description of how to navigate your way to the property. The room was a bit dated. There is a nice restaurant/coffee shop just adjacent to the lobby of the hotel. The thing that was wrong is that the hotel doesn’t list anywhere in the Expedia/ hotels.com description about the construction and they don’t inform you until a couple days before you arrive. This is wrong. I would stay here again but not for a couple years until the construction project is done.

Wonderful hotel, great location, friendly and helpful staff, cozy rooms (but pillows need improvement). Great location to the waterfront and all types of dining options.

Hotel itself was ok. But due to the street under construction trying to even find the entrance was difficult. Then you had to park a fair distance away to unload and then go find overnight parking. I would advise anyone with mobility difficulties to stay away until construction is complete. .

In the bathroom mirror, there is a sign that says for every four nights’ stay, they will clean your room entirely after the second night. That did not happen. They only clean the bathroom, but did not do the rest of the room. My colleague who stayed in another room had the same problem.

We were uograded and had a loveky spacious room.

Typically friendly and attentive Canadian welcome. Traditional 1970’s decor but spacious, clean and comfortable hotel.

We moved the bed to use the plug and was grossed out at how dirty it was there, old used kleenexes, food, hair bands, plastic etc 😳 told the staff at the checkin desk and showed her a picture and she just acted like she didn't hear me and talked about the parking and checkout, not even an I'm sorry 😞

Just as well they don't advertise parking. It's a walk around construction, up the hill to the parking garage. $19 a day. Instructions to the parking garage from inside the hotel are terrible. Hotel is very dated. Nothing changed since original delta. Even the toiletries look old.

Room had a slightly musty smell, but was otherwise clean. Bed was comfy. There were quite a few issues with dings in doors and walls, which made it seem more run down than it is. Construction in the area made parking a bit of a mess, and you could tell that guests had trouble finding their way there. Staff was patient and friendly.

Had a great stay. Close to boardwalk and could walk everywhere. The construction was NOT an issue. Parking was easy in the parkade across the street, with the hotel giving very clear instructions on arriving to this hotel. It’s not that far to walk and parking was included with my stay. It could use a refresh on the interior for sure, but it was clean and comfortable. It was priced much less than other properties in the area (maybe due to the construction) and is definitely a great place to stay downtown.

Elevator not working - long walk for parking and having to bring golf clubs and luggage. Room really small. Hotel is dated.

On the hotels.com site, I was offered a rate of $149 plus tax, but when I came time to pay at the hotel they charged me $197 plus tax. For that price, I could have stays somewhere more updated. The room was clean but dated, with peeling paint and wall paper in the room.

Difficult to get to hotel due to construction in area. Hotel did a good job in advising of this before arrival. No construction noises though. One elevator was out of order for two days and one day neither worked leading to a three floor walk. Sauna did not work two of the days we were there, Restaurant had grab and go service but was very slow. Lication good for access to waterfront. Room comfortable.

The hotel location is great for sight seeing in Halifax. The hotel is clean but very dated. The bed was comfortable but the furniture in the room was old and quite worn. The staff were excellent and very helpful.

Defiantly not the best hotel I have stayed at. Small and old looking rooms. Not very clean. Construction was going on everywhere around the hotel, couldn’t even pull up to the front. The best thing about it is the location, pretty neutral to everything. For the price I paid I would just find another hotel around the area.

The hotel is in the heart of downtown; steps away from many attractions, restaurants, shops, nightlife, etc. Halifax is a very walkable city, and this hotel is a great home base. As some other reviews have stated, there is a major construction project ongoing near the hotel. This makes parking a bit trickier, but I was made aware of this issue well before my stay. Not only is there information about the parking situation on the hotel's website, but I was sent an email before my stay alerting me of the information as well. Because of this, I didn't consider it an issue at all. Instructions are very clear. The hotel is a bit dated, but the rooms were comfortable and clean. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We requested extra towels one night, and they were promptly sent up. All in all, we had a great stay at Barrington Hotel.

Mold in bathroom, stains on carpet and couch. Gross and smelly.
