Downtown city landmark near Checkpoint Charlie

'Feel the history; Love the Comfort' by Curiousnellie :
'Six of us - women 'd'un certain age'- stayed here at the beginning of this winter and were all delighted with our choice. The building itself is beautiful, redolent of end of empire flourish, while the apartment, with the gracious proportions of an earlier era is warm and welcoming. We loved the beautiful original wooden floors, the decorative plasterwork on the bedroom ceilings, the sense of space, as well as the terrific shower in a stylish, modern bathroom. Our inner homemakers thrilled to the quality and solidity of the linens and general fittings (and dreamy beds ). The kitchen is really well equipped so we did not just eat breakfast there but prepared some meals too, though there are some good restaurants close by. The main room and the bedrooms are really roomy, not even with 6 of us did it ever feel crowded. Marion , our host in Berlin, was welcoming and gave some really useful tips on eating out and things to do, and his welcome package was chosen with care - organic and delicious.
The location is great! so close to Museuminsel that it makes a very comfortable stroll before a trip to the unmissable Pergamon. But if walking's not your thing then the wonderful Berlin public transport system is accessible only 2 mins away at the Kochstrasse stop. Another visit you must make is to the Jewish Museum which is also only 2 mins walk from the building. This is a great city for history and culture fans , so get booking ! you won't regret choosing this apartment as your base for your explorations. But get fit first and keep your luggage minimal; there are two flights to walk up.' (PS: Dear Curiousnellie, Apt. 11C and 11 have now an elevator).

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Marian and his wife's apartment in Berlin! From the moment we arrived, they went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Their hospitality was exceptional, with thoughtful touches throughout our stay that made us feel right at home.
The apartment itself was immaculate, stylish, and equipped with everything we needed. Its location was perfect, nestled in a great neighborhood with easy access to public transportation, sites, shops, and restaurants. It's very central and walkable to so much as well.
Marian and his wife were always available to provide excellent recommendations and assistance, making our Berlin experience even more memorable. We can't thank them enough for their kindness and generosity.
If you're up for it rent bikes in the lobby downstairs and head over to the Zenner Biergarten in the park along the river. This was a recommendation Marian gave us which was fantastic! Also take some time to talk to them about the history of their beautiful building. It's really quite amazing.
You do have to walk up three flights to the apartment, but provided you are able bodied we highly recommend staying at Marian's apartment for anyone visiting Berlin!
Thank You!

The apartment is very spacious and very clean!! It had everything we needed for our short stay. Having 2 bathrooms and private bedrooms was hard to find.
The only con is the cost to do laundry. We thought it was was $2euro/load but it’s $2/20 min! So make sure you choose the right settings and add money right away or it times out and shuts off.
The location was great. There were many restaurants and things to see in the area. We walked everywhere. The train station is also close.
We highly recommend this place r. Also, make sure you do the online checkin several days before you arrive!!

We had an incredible stay in this beautiful and spacious apartment. We had plenty of space and all of the amenities we needed. The neighborhood was lovely, with easy access to public transit, proximate to grocery and dining, and an easy walk to quite a few of Berlin’s many landmarks. The apartment was incredibly comfortable and had everything our family of four needed. Our host, Marion, was very welcoming, shared lots of interesting history of the building, as well as providing clear instructions and very helpful recommendations. We would definitely return the next time we visit Berlin.

Clean spacious quiet conformable flat for family or friends, with 3br (two twins in each room, which can be kept together side by side for couples) and 2bathrooms each with shower (no tub). Bthrms are at front end of the hallway, not en suite. Water is good and hot. Building is secure, with a quiet courtyard behind a private gate. There's a luggage room you can access to store bags before check-in time. Flat is walk-up on 3rd floor. Located a couple blocks south of Checkpoint Charlie, close to U6 and U3 stops, very walkable to Brandenburg Gate + Museum Island. You can make coffee, bfast and keep food and drinks at the apartment of course, but there's a good coffee place across the street that opens 7:30 weekdays, and 3 or 4 other coffee places a few minutes away. Bring (or buy locally) soap and shampoo you like. Owners are responsive and helpful. Detailed check-in/access and other instructions are sent a couple days before your arrival. We had no issues - TV with Netflix, good windows, plumbing, appliances, closets etc. If you do laundry, there are machines in the apt, but multiple 2—euro coins will be needed.

Excellent property in every respect. Very nice location. Comfortable, attractive apartment. All well thought out included details such as soap in bathrooms, detergent for washing machines and dishwasher, plastic bags for garbage, etc . How to improve? a few more kitchen towels for a long stay , an extra set of glasses for 6 residents and a few more explanations about the payment system for the washing machine.

This was a really nice and large apartment. It has 3 nice sized bedrooms it has 2 nice. Bathrooms. It is bright and clean looking. Had nice Netflix as well as amazon prime video. The internet worked perfectly. There was a nice balcony to relax on as well. All of the bedrooms had awesome comfortable beds. This apartment was in an awesome location. Right between two metro stops. It was short 5 min walk to the metro, which then connects to anywhere you might want to go. We got a weekly pass with credit card right at the station and we were set. Berlin was super fun. We are returning for Christmas th is year.

The apartment was very nice, however the property manager charged us AFTER arrival for a security deposit and wanted me to pay him in cash. I refused to do so and so he billed me through HomeAway. We left the place in spotless condition yet I never received my deposit back. I reached out multiple times and the property manager ignored my messages each time. I had to go through HomeAway and after repeated calls and messages to them they contacted the owner and I was refunded. The owner then sent me a message and said he was confused and thought I was someone else. Even if that were true all he needed to do was respond to my REPEATED messages. I would not recommend renting through them and definitely don't pay any deposit in cash. You'll never see it again

This was a great property for my family of five. The location is a 5 minute walk (approx) to check point charlie and you can easily to get Brandenburg Gate, museums, Jewish memorial, shopping, Berlin Mitte, Museum Insel, etc. The check in is a bit complicated but the apartment is so worth it. I would definetley stay here again and look forward to visiting the little coffee shop down the Street for breakfast. If you walk one direction you are almost immediately in the center of business and tourism and if you walk in the other direction you are in a normal neighborhood with a grocery and inexpensive neighborhood restaurants. Great Place!

Nice apartment, good for family stay. Clean and well kept-up. Although does not have air-conditioning, temperatures were ok. Important to be aware that there is a cash charge, during your stay, if you book with credit cards, and for city taxes.

This historic property has its quirks, but on balance it cannot be considered anything but excellent.
The apartments themselves are conveniently located. They are on the Friedrichstrasse about a half mile south of Under the Lindens, so it’s just south of the center of the major area in Berlin you are likely visiting. The street itself at one time was THE address in Berlin. With the WWII bombings, this is one of the only, if the only, original structures left more or less intact. It is probably the most attractive building on the street for many blocks. They have a book on the building’s history (in German).
It is near Checkpoint Charlie., which is worth a walk-through for historic reasons, but the guard shack there is not the original one. There are one or two smaller museums about the wall right by – there are several such attractions around Berlin, including the DDR museum and the Wall Memorial about a mile to the north. There are many sites that may be of interest in the area, including a Trabi museum (yes, it leans towards kitsch) and the cite of Gestapo headquarters (which definitely does not).
In terms of getting around Berlin, you are a 5-minute walk from the U-Bahn station, and about two stops from Under the Linden. The U-Bahn system is excellent and fast – we found it very quick and easy to get where we wanted. If you choose to walk, you will cross one of many sites of the Berlin wall and there is a shopping district about a block north of Checkpoint Charlie that goes on for several blocks. There is also a grocery store ( Lidl or Aldi) about a block and a half away.
The apartments are very large and spacious, with high ceilings. We found it easy to spread out and the apartments were very comfortable. They appear to be newly renovated, but in any case are in excellent condition. The bathrooms, too, are spacious and modern. Wi-fi was easy, fast, and reliable.
For the most part the apartments are quiet, but we did get some neighborhood noise on a Saturday night. It wasn't a big deal.
TWO NOTES: there are actually 4 or so apartments on the site. Only one has the beautiful wooden ceilings shown in some of the photos. Double-check if its important to you.
Second: These are on the second floor (3rd floor to Americans). It's 50 steps and about 4 flights to your door. We had no issues, but if you are mobility impaired, it might be.
These apartments are an excellent choice if you are visiting Berlin on holiday.

The apartment was spacious, quiet, well cared for, and comfortable. The location is very near the U-bahn, and close walking distance to Check-point Charlie.
The owner is well-organized, providing timely and clear information regarding the rental.
We would be happy to stay here again

Great place just as described

This apartment was in a great location. We were minutes from Checkpoint Charlie and the U-Bahn. The apartment is in a quiet residential neighborhood, and was extremely clean and well-kept. The clothes washer and dryer were a great added bonus for our stay.
Pros:
• Quiet building, quiet neighborhood.
• Out the front door and down the block to the left is a great little coffee shop, Caffee Corner, where we ate a croissant and had cappuccino every morning of our stay. Diagonally across the corner there is a nice grocery store. There is also an Indian restaurant near there, Delhi 6, that was excellent.
• The washer and dryer was excellent. Soap is provided! The instructions were a little challenging to figure out, but we managed. It is 3 euros for each load in the washer and the dryer, and you leave that on the table with a note when you leave, so be prepared with a few coins. It was well worth the couple of euros to have clean clothes, and to not have to find a laundromat somewhere in the city.
• Close to the U-Bahn. If this is your first trip to Berlin, take a little time to figure out the public transportation. It really is easy to get around the city to anywhere you want to go, and the U-Bahn and S-Bahn trains are easy to navigate.
• The hosts were great! It was easy to book the apartment, and they were responsive via email before our trip and telephone while we were there.
Cons:
• This is a con for us, not the apartment. 😊 We didn’t read the directions carefully enough, and went in the wrong side of the building. You want to go in the left door of the front of the building, following the directions the hosts give you. The door is enormous and very heavy! 😊
Overall, this was one of the best places we stayed on our trip through Germany, Belgium and Holland. We will stay here again on our next trip to Berlin!
