We’ve spent three nights here. Nothing to say about the view. It’s amazing. The place is green, across the river. There are many hangout places inside that you can find the peace. Elephant feeding/bathing was also amazing. Luang Prabang is 30 min. away by the car/motorbike.

The resort is absolutely fantastic with the beautiful scenery of the river and mountains. It is located about half an hour ride from Luang Prabang city centre.
They have a total of 5 rooms.
They have 1 restaurant and the food is delicious.
We had a lovely stay (unfortunately only 1 night) and would definitely stay again. Hopefully soon! :-)

Chateau Orientale was recommended to me by a New Zealand couple i met in Luang Prabang. I headed out early to escape the city - and it really was a spectacular stay - with mesmerising views across the river, daily sitings of elephants ambling past, boats passing and the life of the village nearby adding to the ambiance. Very friendly team - who were kind and helpful at all times. Spectacular views from the restaurant - and the pool - and my room. The design was really wonderful with woodwork from India and a very exotic feel - extremely comfortable too. The menu was good and you could sit in different spots around to enjoy views.
I didn't feel in the mood for trips - but i'm sure i would visit again to try the village mountain bike trip and kayaking etc - all easy to arrange...
There could be noise issues if someone stays in a room above, but it didn't bother me much and in no way detracted from the loveliness of my stay. I stayed three nights and only a few sounds the first night - so don't let this put you off.

Location: Chateau Orientale is situated in a rural area, next to the Nam Khan River. The whole resort area is very tranquil. I really enjoyed the serenity and the sound of the gentle flowing water of the river. It is such a pleasant experience to sit at the balcony and just relax.
Breakfast was cooked to order, not buffet style. The selection is a small one but the food was great. I had the American breakfast (ie bread, cereal and fried egg) whereas my wife had the white noodles with chicken. The view at the breakfast restaurant looking out to the river was the greatest attraction.
1. There is no provision of hanger and a place to hang your clothes. There is a cardboard in the room but you will have to fold your clothes.
2. The wifi speed was slow.
3. I would prefer if there are USB charging points in the room.
4. The space between the bed and the mini fridge in our room was very tight and my leg got cut (a minor one) when moving to the mini fridge.

Wow! Wow! WOW!!!
This exceptional hotel is now one of my two favourites in the world. Where do I start...
Grounds: From the moment you get out of the car, you'll realise you've arrived somewhere exceptional. You may even witness an elephant amble up the driveway if you arrive in the morning at about 7:30!!!
There are large carved antique entranceways and open-sided buildings that create features along a meandering path through the grounds. At times, you wander across a pond, with stepping stones cleverly placed and dragonflies dancing between lotus blossoms.
Location: the property sits perched high on the riverbank, looking out across a village, lush valley, and distant mountains. Butterflies are absolutely everywhere, and the only sounds are those of nature.
Rooms: large, airy, and with comfortable beds, my twin room had its own large balcony overlooking the river. The bathroom had a bath with chrome feet, and the tapware/ basin was embossed brass. Carved antique wooden doors and wooden shutters completed the look.
Facilities: When you walk into the main building, your jaw will be on the ground and your head swivelling from side to side. It's crammed full of antiques from India and is more like a gorgeous home than a hotel reception/ restaurant. Small turret-like rooms with pillows for sitting on make you feel like a princess. There's also an upstairs area (go up the spiral staircase), but you will probably stay glued to downstairs like we did, studying the detail of the decor, and watching elephants cross the river.
Pool: overlooking the river, it may be smaller in size, but the pool is simply perfect. It is pretty, has shade where there is a swim up bar, and has seats built into the pool on the sunny side, for relaxing. Again, the decorations are unique (throwback to Germany), and there are shaded hidden spots for reading or watching the world flow by.
If you can find ANY fault with this property, you need to look at yourself first. There is nothing to improve, nothing to complain about, and even the most sour, difficult guests would find themselves smiling and happy.

Amazingly beautiful location by the river, quiet (though we did hear some loud music coming from afar 🤪), we were the only customers so we had the swimming pool for ourselves (and everything else actually 😅), the kitchen looks like a western castle from the middle Ages with a touch of orientalism (Marroccan). I've seen the most beautiful furniture at Le chateau oriental and our cupboard looked like it came straight out of a Grimm tale.
We enjoyed the balcony and the bathroom had a bathtub as well as a shower room. The room was spotless. Staff were absolutely delightful. We were treated like princesses. I recommend the elephant activity: you get to feed, brush and wash the elephants and the staff are very helpful.
A dream place for sure.
We didn't particularly appreciate the fireflies? Not sure what they were but little flying insects attracted to light. They literally flew all over the room and balcony and ended up in tens of thousands all over our floor, dead? Some were moving. We had to use the available rugs to get rid of them. Maybe a broom inside the room would be useful?

Breakfast was fine .
Location for us was perfect away from everything and room had great views
You could hear the people in the room moving around upstairs
When booking we hadn’t realised the Elephant Sanctuary was part of the hotel . We saw tourists riding elephants which I think is wrong and query the name “ “sanctuary “.

Beautiful location on a river overlooking mountains with elefant sanctuaries close by.
Well designed, pictures are accurate.
Would definitely come back for a few days, very relaxing and peaceful.
Staff were not trained well and it was hard to communicate (but due to the distance from the Luang Prabang, it is understandable that most staff come from a very local village, which I like and support).
Overall not super clean but better than most "rustic" places we stayed in. Definitely more of an upscane rustic.
Worste part was that the two elefants linked to the property are not yet being handled in the best way possible and even elephant riding was happening (possibly only by the guides and not by tourists- but it should just stop).

You can not beat the view. The whole retreat felt like one big meditation session. The staff was great. The main host had an incredibly calming aura that matched the serenity of the location. I have high anxiety and that retreat was the least anxious I have been in years. The owner was great too. He gave me a free trip to the airport and was a great conversationalist. This would be a great place to write a book.
Pretty much everything I didn't like had to do with the fact that I was there in the low season and it was a bit colder than I expected. The only negative I can think of is the water pressure on the bum gun was too low and the main light flickered a bit.

it’s a stunning property. Its beauty is a secret or it would be over run and booked out for weeks. it’s a little inconvienent from town but I think the beauty is worth it.

It combines an extraordinary scenic location with exceptional style and allure
in some respects a bit too far from the city

This was my favorite stay in Laos, and maybe the best in Southeast Asia. Location is a bit far from town (about 30 mins), but that’s exactly what I wanted. The property and architecture is GORGEOUS. The views - breathtaking. I really hope I can stay here in the future. The property was just a few years ago before Covid so it’s still pretty new.
Also the food is fantastic and affordable, between $2-5 for one meal per person.
The two big downsides: there were many bugs in the room (but this is expected because it’s in the forest), and because location is far from city, it’s hard to get to and costs about $20 one way.
But it’s WELL worth the trip! Thank you Fa and Marcus for a wonderful stay :)

The place is incredible! It is located in front of the river, surrounded by nature.
The fernitures and decoration are gorgeous, with details in every corner.
The views from each place (rooms, pool, restaurant, decks, etc) are perfect.
It is a place to spend a couple of days relaxing.

Most beautiful property we have stayed at in years.
Kind of far from town. 20 minute $20 RT charge for shuttle. Bathroom smelled bad.

One of the most beautiful hotels we've stayed in.
The location is 30mins out of town and was wonderful to get out away from everything for a few days.
The rooms and the hotel are a meticulously built work of architecture. The owner has acquired most of the kit of parts from India and re-built an unique piece of architecture in the Laotian countryside. There are only 4 rooms with a beautiful picture window capturing the mountains in the background with the river below.
The hotel was kind enough to arrange the elephant safari for us at the last moment and also invited us to their staff new years eve dinner! One of the best hospitality during our entire trip :)
It was all perfect!

Beautiful and quiet hotel on the shore of the Nan Khan river. So good to wake up listening to bird's sound and watch the sunrise above the waters... Small hotel with very good breakfast and great menu for lunch or dinner.
Hotel stays 20 minutes away from Luang Prabang by van. Transfer is $20 dollars each way. At night fare rises to $30 and you need to plan yourself ahead as not every tuk tuk driver will take you out of town.
