old house needs fully refurbed very dated liv room very small in a ruff area

The location was key for us. It was walking distance to the castle.

It was a faff to get the code for the keys. I had to email several times asking for it - was asked to send a copy of photo ID - twice - emailed again, was asked to call - which I did, but no reply so I left a message and a text, and eventually had a text back saying that I would hear from someone else! I did eventually get the code, but it was getting a bit stressful as it was right up to when I was supposed to be leaving. On arrival, the garden looked like an overgrown jungle. The house was tired-looking, and on exploring the kitchen, we found bread that was blue with mould, and food and milk in the fridge that was literally months out of date. It smelled bad. We didn't use the kitchen at all because I didn't want to have to clean it first. The beds were mostly cheap camp type beds, but at least the bedding was clean. Didn't dare touch the towel-rail as it looked as though it would fall off the wall. All in all, it had the feel of a very basic student house, not the holiday home it was advertised (and priced!) to be.
