About this house rental
Do you enjoy being able to walk to great shops, terrific restaurants and the beach in a charming small town? The city of Frankfort has been named by MyNorth as having one of the ten sweet streets in northern Michigan: "Main Street // Frankfort. This street is studded with a brewery, surf shop, boutiques, eateries and a theater, and it runs parallel with the lovely Betsie Lake, and it ends at one of the most beautiful beaches on Lake Michigan. It’s enough to make other Main Streets green with envy."
Do you like having your family and friends with you in a lovely, private setting, yet reside in the town of Frankfort and close to the beach? Then Birch Cottage may be just right for you. Birch Cottage was built in 1998 and the inside was remodeled when we purchased it four years ago. Our cottage has three bedrooms and two baths and is completely furnished. Birch Cottage is our second home, not just a rental. We enjoy sharing our vacation home with others in Michigan’s “up north” – especially in beautiful Frankfort. We ask that you enjoy Birch Cottage as your own vacation home during your stay. We have all the conveniences of home, a fully equipped kitchen with all new appliances, new washer and dryer, and two full bathrooms. The cottage has a king-sized bed in the master bedroom, a queen-sized bed in bedroom number two, and a double bed in bedroom number three, very comfortable accommodations for six adults or your family. Both the kitchen and dining room tables have extra leaves to accommodate everyone comfortably. There are two Smart TVs, cable and wireless Internet. We have lots of books, picture puzzles and games appropriate for an “Up North” cottage.
A giant 60-year old birch tree graces our front yard, which we adopted in our new cottage name. Our tree expert assures us that the giant birch is a specimen tree in its prime of life and will easily live many more years. We have recently completely re-landscaped the yard. We worked with local environmental experts to create a yard full of plants native to this part of Michigan and to attract birds, butterflies and pollinators. We also had a new covered deck constructed across the front of the home. I especially love the pergola which has a canvas shade cover during the summer. There is a dining table for six, a new gas grill and comfy rockers.
The cottage is located in the heart of Frankfort, a short walk to Main Street with all its terrific shops, galleries, and excellent restaurants, and to the boat launch on Betsie Bay. A little longer 9 block walk, or a short drive, takes you to the beautiful sandy shore of Lake Michigan. The beach is great fun and shared by all. There are always things to do at the beach besides sunbathing and swimming. The paddle boarding is excellent, the volleyball nets are available; you can walk out to the lighthouse and always enjoy the magnificent Lake Michigan sunsets.
Frankfort is in a central location in the northwest Lower Peninsula. Close by are Manistee, Elberta, Benzonia, Beulah, Empire, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Glen Arbor, Leland, Sutton's Bay and many more small towns that are interesting to explore. For nostalgia Frankfort has an old time hardware store that has everything you would want a hardware store to have. Traverse City a terrific side trip with excellent restaurants, galleries and shops. Market Square Park is two blocks away where you'll find lots of outdoor recreation equipment including a skateboard area.
There are lots of excellent golf courses near by. We recommend driving M-22 through Empire, Glen Lake, Leland, Northport, Sutton’s Bay, and down to Traverse City - “Around the Horn: The M-22 Loop.” This road trip encircles the very best vineyards in Michigan, similar to driving in California’s Napa Valley. Download a guide to the wine country and sample the best wine Michigan has to offer.
We have several books describing trips for sight seeing, biking or hiking.
If you also have an interest in winter sports, there are cross-country, snowshoe and ski trails, snowmobile routes through the woods, and excellent ski slopes 15 miles inland at Crystal Mountain resort. We are available year round to enjoy all seasons in northern Michigan.

Birch cottage is a beautifully maintained home that has everything we needed for a comfortable vacation. The kitchen, living, and 2 dining areas were spacious and accommodated 4 adults and 2 young children. We enjoyed most of our meals on the large front porch and spent a lot of time playing in the front yard surrounded by Klo’s lovely gardens. The cottage is walking distance to all that Frankfort has to offer.

Our visit to Frankfort was wonderful and Klo was a wonderful host. The kitchen was stocked with everything you need including spices which was great. The entire home was super clean and was comfortable. We never went without. The home is abut a 12 min walk to downtown and is very close the the Betsie Bike path. We highly recommend this property to anyone considering a visit to Frankfort.

Our family stayed here over Memorial Day Weekend and we had the best time. The house has everything we needed and the best part was the beauty front porch. We cannot wait to come back here next year! Thanks!

This cottage is amazing!! Great location in a quiet neighborhood close to everything! 5 adults came to Frankfort for a wedding at the yacht club and fell in love with the town and this place. Plenty of room for us! The beds are comfortable, the kitchen is extremely well stocked, the garden is beautiful and the front porch is everything. The towels were so large and soft i had to take a picture of the tag so I could buy some for home. 10/10 stars, would absolutely stay here again. Highly recommend.

Birch Cottage was clean, well-equipped, and conveniently located to Frankfort’s downtown, as well as a stunning Lake Michigan beach. A highlight is the charming garden of native plants that attract bees and butterflies. Our group ate most of our meals on the well-furnished front porch that is just steps away from the kitchen. Overall, a cottage that has been carefully designed for the convenience and comfort of its visitors.

Very clean and comfortable place to spend our trip! The location was amazing and we were able to walk into downtown Frankfort with ease. The house had a beautiful garden and there was even some deer in the yard during some of the mornings that we were there. Perfect Home Base for Our Young Family
Birch Cottage was the perfect home base for our young family in Northern MI. The property was immaculate and had all of the comforts we needed. The cottage is easily accessible to the bike path, Main Street, and anything else we needed. The front porch is a true gem - we spent many hours enjoying the porch and landscaping!

Another nice stay at the Birch House
This was our second stay at this property. It is a nice, well appointed home within walking distance of downtown and the Frankfort Beach. If you really like walking, as my wife and I, walk the Betsie Bay trail to Elberta and back, which is about a three and a half mile round trip. Communication with the property owner was great. Recommended!

Cute, cozy Birch Cottage
Birch Cottage was the perfect NYE weekend getaway space. Walk 7 blocks and you are right in Frankfort. The cottage is a beautiful home away from home, has everything you need to have a very comfortable vacation. We used the NYE weekend to visit a couple local craft beer breweries, watch lots of college football, eat, drink and close out 2021! The cottage was just as described, in a quiet neighborhood but close to town, close to Lake Michigan! Birch cottage would be a great home base for any time of year for your adventures!

wonderful place, quite neighborhood great location
The house was spotless when we arrived. The front porch was our favorite place to sit every afternoon, reading and relaxing. What struck us was how quite the neighborhood was, very soothing. At the same time, the location was close to downtown, we often walked or biked. This place deserves five stars

Mother/Daughters Weekend
Very clean home, comfortable, nicely decorated and stocked with everything you could need. Thank you. We enjoyed Frankfort, the beach, sunset, and visiting Traverse City.
We ate at Storm Cloud, and Birch and Maple in Frankfort. We would recommend both. Pampano Pizza take out was great for our later in the evening arrival.
Definitely would stay again.

Wonderful Stay at the Birch House
My wife, two sisters and I stayed at the Birch House for five nights. We would normally not visit Frankfort, Michigan in early May as it is still chilly. However, this was our first chance to visit our 89 year old mother, a resident of The Maples long care health facility, whom we have been unable to see for 18 months due to the pandemic. The location is a very quiet neighborhood less than a five-minute drive to the facility, and an easy walk downtown. We ate most of our breakfasts at the close-by Crescent Bakery or the Jewish deli. The sunny weather made it conducive to walking the Benzie Trail daily into Elberta, a good three-mile roundtrip The house had everything we needed and we prepared and ate most of our lunches and dinners there. I particularly enjoyed the wonderful collection of maps and local artifacts displayed in the home, as well as a great collection of books. I highly recommend this home to a couple or small family.

Wonderful second visit
This was our second time staying at Birch Cottage and it was just as wonderful as we remembered! The house is very clean, with comfortable beds and a fully stocked kitchen. Klo is a pleasure to work with. Want to return again soon.

Wonderful family stay
Our family had a wonderful long weekend staying at Birch Cottage. We were up north to ski at Crystal Mountain, which was just 20-30 min away (depending on the weather conditions). Birch Cottage was so cozy. There were plenty of games, puzzles, books and movies to keep the four of us entertained. The kitchen was very well stocked. Overall the house is clean and comfortable in every way. It was very cold when we were there, but in better weather it seems like Betsie Lake and town would be an easy walk. We’d love to come back in warmer weather to explore the area! Highly recommend this property.

Thanksgiving in Frankfort
Great, well laid out house for our needs. Everything went smoothly and owner was very accommodating. Interior is very nice and feels much larger inside than the profile pic might lead you to believe. Location is easy walking distance to the grocery, park etc. It is close to everything, but on a quiet street. Nice.

Wonderful property and owner
We had a wonderful stay at this property! The house was very clean and well-maintained. The owner was amazing- she communicated promptly and has procedures in place for a safe stay during COVID. We loved how close this property was to Sleeping Bear Dunes, Crystal Mountain, etc. Beautiful place to see fall color. We look forward to returning.

OUTSTANDING HOME
My cousins and I enjoyed a wonderful 4 days at this delightful home. The home is immaculate, VERY well-stocked in the kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms. The owners take great pride in their rental and it obviously shows. We have been renting once a year for 20 years and this place is by far THE BEST we've seen. Anyone thinking twice about renting this place, DON'T!!

Comfortable, Quiet, Immaculate!
This was a very nice rental, exceptionally clean, comfortable beds & well stocked with kitchen items. There were only a couple of kitchen items missing, but we are cooks so proabably need more than the average renter?? We loved the quiet neighborhood, but still being only a short walk to downtown. Close to everything, but off the beaten path so that you aren’t in the noisy part of town. We could have used better lighting, Sometimes the house felt a bit dark. But a great place overall, highly recommend!

The beds are really comfy and the house has all of the amenities you need for an enjoyable stay.
