About this cottage rental
The spacious cottage Tvera is situated in the secluded pristine environment of the widely untouched south coast of Iceland’s Westfjord. The lodge is centrally sited for a visit to many spectacular nature sights, would it be the puffins of the Latrabjarg cliffs, the unique red beach of Raudasandur, all the natural geothermal pools in the area - or just the herbal vegetation and the creeks on a refreshing hike from the entrance door of the lodge. The surroundings of Tvera are steeped in history with one of the first discoverers of Iceland, the ninth century Norseman Hrafna-Floki who gave Iceland it's name, choosing to settle here so he could enjoy the beautiful view over the bay.
Tvera sleeps up to 11 guests, but please notice, there's an extra charge per person per night exceeding 6 guests.
Tvera is very close to the ferry harbor Brjanslaekur, where the car & passenger ferry from the town Stykkisholmur arrives, passing the cult-island Flatey on its way across the bay. It is also close to the road junction for the main town of the Westfjords, Isafjordur, hosting "Tjoruhusid" the best fish restaurant in Iceland. There is only a 25 minute panoramic drive to Dynjandi, the most beautiful and impressive waterfall of the Westfjords (100m high).
In the late summer/autumn you can pick blueberries all around and mushrooms too.
Are you heading up North, to the East or to the South? We also run the quality cottages "Hamragil" by the town Akureyri up North (Booking Number 3925011), Borgarbrekka in South East Iceland, 35 km east of town Höfn, "Stekkar" south of the great sights Geysir and Gullfoss (2903253) and "Brekka" right at the bay Hvalfjord just north of Reykjavik (9257064).

Very comfy house and super-friendly host. The house is easily accessible and yet very quiet. Most of the beautiful places in the Westfjords are within max. 90 minutes driving distance.

If you are looking for a remote location in the Westfjords with an amazing view, this is the place. The view from the living/dining room overlooking Vatnsfjordur and the Atlantic Ocean is serene and can't be beat for beauty. The location is very quiet with very little car traffic. You have to travel 45 minutes to the nearest town, but there is a hotel within a couple of miles with a gas pump and a good restaurant. The location is a good base for traveling to many of the Westfjord sites.
The lodge is well appointed with all kitchen necessities. I traveled solo but there are plenty of comfortable beds for a larger group. It is always nice to have an accommodation with a washer and dryer. Several days the sheep were on the front lawn.
The host Jon Baldur was very quick to reply to my many questions prior to travel. This was my 3rd trip to Iceland and I will be sure to use another Nordic Lodge in the future.

This was a wonderful vacation rental in the sparsely populated Westfjords. Very convenient location by the ferry terminal and with a hotel, restaurant, and natural hot pot down the road. Beautiful sweeping vistas out of most windows. We saw Arctic foxes right in front of the property. Relatively short drive to some of the area's major attractions, including the Dynjandi Waterfall, red sand beach, and Latrabjarg bird cliffs. The home was spotless when we arrived and our hosts were very gracious and communicative.

We loved every minute of our stay in this wonderful retreat. The views are breathtaking, the house has everything you need, is very comfortable, and well situated to reach the beautiful sites across the Westfjords. And Jon is absolutely wonderful to work with, one of the best hosts we have encountered in all our travels. Thanks for everything, Jon.

A perfect place to explore the southern part of the Westfjords...very convenient location! Clean house with everything you need. Feels remote. Has gorgeous views. Nice walks at low tide and hiking in canyons nearby. Jon easy to communicate with. Has other beautiful places we would like to stay at in the future...see his postcards at the house! We'll be back. Thank you!!! Leslie & Martin

The house is in a great location, is very clean and comfortable, and has everything you need for cooking. Our host was wonderful about communication. We loved looking out the front window at the fjord. Twice a white tailed eagle landed on the rocks in the water out front. It was a great place to spend 5 days.

Beautiful and quiet surrounded by birds and an ocean view. We were visited by sheep, geese and ducks. The alpine wildflowers were in bloom which just added to experience. House was immaculate, stylish and had everything we needed and communication with the property manager was also great.

We stayed at the house for nearly two weeks and it was wonderful. It is spacious inside and the views from every window are spectacular. We walked in the mountains or down by the sea every day and picked wild berries and chanterelles and it was magical. The nearest grocery is about thirty minutes away and it had everything we needed. The house was well set up for cooking and the hotel restautant five minutes away was great. No problems, no complaints: perfect

Our family really enjoyed our ferry ride over to the Westfjords and the shortest ride up the road to our house! The location was great for visiting all the main attractions in the area. One day we just tried out all the hot springs! The house has everything you’ll need, and comfort throughout.

Winter in the Westfjords
Jon & Auja made our experience unforgettable! The property was in pristine condition. The location and views were stunning! Visiting the Westfjords in the middle of Winter can present some challenges. But, it’s not impossible. In fact, we enjoyed being isolated away from people for a while. Jon is very kind and quick to respond to anything you need during your stay. We truly had a great time and cannot wait to check out their other properties across Iceland! We thank you again Jon & Auja!! :)

A lovely house in a gorgeous location
This house was the perfect home base for our family. We were looking forward to a remote, wintry, Westfjords experience and we were not disappointed. Mountain behind, ocean in front. Could not have asked for better.
Jon, our host, was amazing: warm, responsive, and helpful, he embodied a hospitality that helped make our trip both memorable and enjoyable.

Cozy Home In Paradise
Westfjords are incredibly beautiful and there really are no other places on earth (in our personal opinion ) as magnificent as the beauty of fjords! We feel so blessed that we got the chance to experience that part of Iceland and all from Jon & Auja’s lovely home! Kind and easy to speak to host, and their home had everything we needed to make our family feel nice and cozy and just be able to sit in awe of the beauty surrounding us! Beautiful hiking right by the home and we picked as many blueberries as we could eat from the mountains surrounding us. We loved watching our kids have so much fun picking them as well and running around. The location is very convenient to the Hellulaug ( hot pool) and not far from Krosslaug either. We also got a chance to go visit several places there like Dynjandi , Isafjordur , Patreksfjordur and some other beautiful areas as well. Being back home now we already miss Iceland and their wonderful people so much!

Comfortable house, fantastic location. Excellent spot for families with young children ... beach trips, swimming, walking. A magical part of Iceland.

My family has stayed in 3 previous VRBO rentals in Iceland and this is the most serene and peaceful. There are hikes from the house and many other hikes within 5-10 minute drive, the Flokalundur Hotel with good food, beer, and service is just 5 minutes away. Many Westfjord travel/sightseeing destinations attainable from this home. House was more spacious and comforting than my family of 5 expected (with an additional room not used) when looking at the size from pictures. My only regrets about the home is that I hesitated renting it and we could not stay longer than a week. Interaction with JB was prompt and he is great. Thank you JB for lending us Tvera!

Danke nochmal an Jon

incredible and unique rental in Westfjords
Our family had an incredible vacation in this lovely home
We spent a few days in and around Reykjavik before traveling north to the Westfjords to spend the rest of our vacation in Westfjords. We arrived to a wonderful, comfortable, and well equipped home. The views of the cliffs and ocean are stunning! It was lovely to relax at the home between our adventures to the Latrabjarg Cliffs and Dynjandi Waterfall. There is a great hiking trail nearby and the Flókalundur hotel and restaurant are nearby: we ate lunch there and enjoyed the food and the views.
JB was very helpful through the process and helped insure that we had a great vacation!

Beautiful home with breathtaking views!
We feel so blessed to have found this home. The owners were so helpful giving us tips on what to bring and where to go for groceries and sightseeing. The home was so spacious and had anything you could need and more. The beds and bedding were so comfortable. Having the water in front of us, the mountains and waterfalls right behind the home was just unbelievable. It was so private and so peaceful. It was the trip of a lifetime.

Wonderful house at the edge of the world
This is an amazing property, fully equipped with all amenities and plenty of room. Best of all, it has a spectacular location on the side of a beautiful fjord, close to all the jewels of the Westfjords. My family and I had three wonderful days here, and all of us were sad to leave. Highly recommended. The owner, Jon, is also very friendly and helpful.

Spacious home in wonderful location
I've stayed in VBROs around the world. This is a great one, if you like hiking in the spectacular Westfjords of Iceland. Thank you to Jon (and Sven at the fish farm) for making it a wonderful stay. Wish we had booked more days here!

Loved the view all around the house.
Right location. 5 minutes from the ferry, fish farm across the street, and surrounding you couldn’t ask for better. Sea in the fron and the mountains in the back with waterfall all around. Can’t forget the sheep roaming around and the hotpot nearby. Flokalunder has excellent food.

We loved our stay at Tvera!
Jon was exceptional in communicating with us prior to our trip. He was very helpful in guiding me through the reservation process and offering traveling tips and advice that didn’t disappoint.
The home was clean and welcoming, with very adequate accommodations. The view of the ocean was exquisite and we enjoyed our strolls on the beach and splashing in tidal pools with our 2 year old.
I highly recommend spending time in the West Fjords and a stay at Tvera. We certainly enjoyed our 4 nights and hope to be back again!

Beautiful, remote and far from the crowds
This was perfect for our family of four - and we loved the stunning views from the windows out over the ever changing light of the fjord. Jon was a communicative, friendly and helpful host.
The Westfjords are certainly further from the tourist trail than other areas of Iceland, though the hotpot at Hellulaug has now definitely been discovered! (There is another, quieter hot pot further along the road which Jon can recommend and which we enjoyed using). I would recommend taking with you some guidebooks or information to the hikes in the local area as it can be quite hard to get information locally. The journey to Dynjandi is well worth it and the scenery on the way is amazing. Be aware that it takes time to travel around this area so be prepared for considerable driving if you want to explore. We would recommend the wonderful restaurant Heimsendi in Patreksfjorur, over the one just down the road.
The beds in the property were comfortable and the kitchen has all the essential pots and pans etc - the only thing we missed was a blender to make soup! The television is very small, which was not a problem for us as we were there for the scenery. The lounge/living area was a good size for us - and we felt very at home.

Great basecamp to explore the Iceland West Fjords.
Great basecamp to explore the Iceland West Fjords. House is in great conditions and well maintained. All you need to feel home and cook for a bigger group was there.
Fish farm across the street did give us a chance to eat the freshest Arctic Char we ever had. Hotel and Gas station close by made sure we could grab small bytes when we did not want to cook and allow to gas up before each trip. Close to ferry and wonderful Dynjandi waterfall. Special thanks to John, as he made sure we had a flat tire fixed overnight and so did not get any interruption in our schedule. Also a must see is the natural hot pot close by and free to use. Wonderful trips to see wildlife and greatest nature sceneries we ever saw. Wild blueberry’s tasted wonderful. Marvelous sunrises and sunsets.

Homely lodge in a stunning location
Nothing could have prepared us for just how beautiful Tvera and its surroundings are. The house looks out onto a crystal clear blue bay, dotted with tiny islands in front of rugged mountains and the succession of bays and cliffs we had driven along to get there – more on that drive later. Tvera has every home comfort and we were able to cook all our meals and take advantage of the trout farm just a few yards away, dining on fresh Arctic char followed by bilberries and crowberries picked from the hillside. We stayed three nights but didn’t travel far, we were content with short walks and just relaxing in our beautiful surroundings. The hot spring pool by the sea was amazing – . A far more relaxing and stunning location than the Blue Lagoon and it was free!
We would thoroughly recommend staying at Tvera. Jon was a very thoughtful and welcoming host, providing us with lots of helpful information and a very well equipped Home. One thing we would do differently is to travel there by ferry. We travelled north from Bogarnes via the A1 and the A60. We can’t deny that the scenery along the A60 was some of the most dramatic and inspiring we have ever seen, but the roads were terrifying. Narrow unsurfaced tracks with steep clifftop drops. Our stomachs were in our mouths for what seemed like days, but was probably about four hours. Other drivers in 4x4s were more comfortable and we were overtaken many times when there was room. We were driving a ford galaxy and a Citroen Picasso, both heavily loaded with people and luggage. The first thing we did on arriving at Tvera was to book the ferry crossing to Stykkisholmun for our return journey. This took three hours and cut out all those scary roads. The A56 and A54 were a much easier drive Back to Bogarnes. The ferry was not too expensive. About 5400K for each car and each adult. Kids under 16 travel free and teenagers were half price. Money well spent if you have a fear of heights and want to keep a hire car away from unmade roads.
We would definitely go again and stay a bit longer as there are lots of sights in the western fjords we have yet to visit.

Relaxing and serene (after the drive!)
I stayed at Tvera in June 2016 with my husband and six-year-old son. We also did the drive from Reykjavik on the way there -- gorgeous and alternately fun and alarming. I wouldn't do the drive again, but would save my tolerance for cliff driving for going to Latrabjarg or a town and take the ferry both directions. Tvera was fantastic. We loved watching the sheep and lambs graze right outside our window. The bedrooms were very comfortable (we brought some extra blackout curtains for our son, which we used everywhere we stayed), the kitchen was very well stocked, and the living room and dining room had amazing views of the water. We didn't do all that much during our visit, which was fine. Two visits to the hot pot down the road, an evening drive to the waterfall, and a lot of time enjoying the perfect weather and scenery. We would definitely come back. I would love to see it in winter.

stunning!
I stayed at Tvera Lodge in May 2016 with 6 friends. It was a long drive from Reykjavik but entirely worth it - the Westfjords of Iceland are breathtaking, and like nothing I've ever seen before. Rugged beauty at every turn. And Tvera Lodge was perfect. Jon, the host, was helpful and accommodating before, during, and after our stay. The location is great for exploring the area, and it is stunning! The home is warm, comfortable and clean, with a fully operative kitchen and comfy beds. Right across from Tvera is a trout farm, where we purchased the best trout I've ever tasted. And we spent an unforgettable glorious afternoon in a hot pool just down the road from Tvera. If I ever return to the Westfjords, I will hope to stay here again.
