About this house rental
The Glen Ellen Stone Retreat, located in the heart of Sonoma Wine County in the quaint town of Glen Ellen. This creekside home is on a quiet private road walking distance to town center. Glen Ellen is home to restaurants with locally grown organic ingredients and family operated wineries. There are several tasting rooms and a gourmet grocery store within a 5 minute walk, or you can venture in any direction and you'll find world renown wineries.
Kenwood is an 8 minute drive and downtown Sonoma is 15-20 minutes away. Less than a mile from the front door is the Quarry Hill Botanical Garden. Spend the day hiking, horseback riding, and enjoying a picnic in nature at the Historical Jack London State Park located one mile from the house.
The 1.25 acre creekside property is private and quiet. The house is 3500 square feet offering many different places for groups to gather, inside and out. Three of the bedrooms have their own en suite bath; the other two bedroom share a bath right across the hall. The perimeter of the property is lined with redwood trees. The lack of neighboring lights makes the stars especially bright. Nestled among oaks is a unique insulated tree house for guests to enjoy. The chemical-free pool is heated via solar panels May-October.* Enjoy your evening in the hot tub under the stars.
* ** The pool is heated via solar panels seasonally, AVAILABLE ONLY May through October pending rain and outdoor temperature. Pool cushions are stored during the winter/rainy months typically November through April** Hot tub is hot and available year round!***
Our Recommendation!
Float in the fresh salt pool. Take a stroll along the creekside walking path. Play a fun filled game of tether ball beneath the trees or darts in the game room! Throw some burgers on the luxury BBQ. Relax poolside by the rushing waterfall while savoring some local wine. Later, enjoy a soak in the hot tub. Gaze up at all the bright stars. Sleep in our new beds with high thread count linens. Sleep like a stone.

The house is a really cool stone and wood structure built by the owner with many amenities. It also in a great location with many vineyards/tasting rooms & restaurants close by in Glen Ellen but also easy to get to the whole Napa valley to explore others. The host was very friendly and also very responsive to a minor issue we had. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property.

Beautiful spot as a home base to do some winery touring, was perfect!
10.0 / 10.0
The house was spacious, clean and in a perfect location for exploring both Sonoma and Napa. We had 4 couples, and there was plenty of room for everyone to have their own bedroom/bathroom, and there are great common areas where we could hang out with one another to eat and unwind. Everything was very clean and convenient. Brian lives nearby and was easy to communicate with, so check-in and check-out was seamless.
I will definitely stay here again when visiting wine country.

Beautiful stay for the most part…
This property was absolutely beautiful! I stayed here with 7 of my friends for a little birthday getaway and we absolutely loved the property. The beds were comfy, there was a lot of room and they even had board games. Everything was great, but we had one weird experience... We met some of the neighbors earlier that day and they were cool so we had them over around 6pm . Later that night 3 of us ladies were in the hot tub by ourselves when the neighbors came over unannounced through the backyard around 10:02pm . Before we could even really say anything the owner showed up right behind them. The 3 neighbors and the owner started exchanging words which seemed heated back and forth. We couldn’t hear because of the jacuzzi jets. Then the neighbors wave bye and walk back out the backyard. We then had to get the owners attention to ask what just happened and it seemed like he wasn’t even trying to answer us. He sounded angry and barely made eye contact as he told us it was past 10 so it is supposed to be quiet hours and those people couldn’t be there. We either had to make sure we stayed quiet (which we were before the commotion. No music or anything just us conversing with one another) or take it inside. Meanwhile, this whole ordeal was over by 10:07 so we don’t know how everything happened so randomly and how the owner was there before we could even tell the men to go home.. This left us quite fearful because why did they feel okay just entering our area with out asking, how did the owner come so quick right behind them, and why was no one trying to tell us what in the world was going on? Especially because it was just us 3 girls in our swim suits so we were vulnerable at that point and we had no idea what they were yelling about. We called the owner Afterwards to ask if that was him that came back there and he confirmed. We let him know we felt uneasy and also Uber would be coming soon with our dinner. He replied “no it won’t, it’s already there”. We weren’t aware of that yet so after that chain of events the house just felt scary and eerie as if someone was watching us. Thankfully, it was our last night! I wish that event didn’t happen though because I really did love the house overall and when we first met the owner he seemed to be super friendly. That last night just left a salty taste in our mouths. All & all though the property by itself was amazing! I loved the layout, the jacuzzi, the amenities, and the views! Great place for pictures.

Christmas Rendevouz
Family was looking for a place where groups from three locations could gather for the holiday. Stone Retreat was an ideal location for our interests and needs. Weather was not cooperative, as needed rains were in ample supply. Plenty of room for distinct family lifestyles, great gathering spaces, and the kitchen provided for our cooking objectives. Brian was courteous and attentive during our stay. We had a very Merry Christmas at Stone Retreat.

Napa to Sonoma
We had a group from two different states meet in CA for the Napa to Sonoma Half Marathon. Property was absolutely beautiful, perfect for our group, great amenities and close to SOO many vineyards / wine tastings. Patio and pool would have been amazing if the weather was warmer. Owners were very quick to respond and very accommodating. Thank you!
Couple suggestions: update the furniture in living room (cushions) and perhaps provide coffee carafe. Thank you!!

Wonderful home with outstanding yard and location!
We loved our long weekend at the Glen Ellen Stone retreat! We are a family with 3 adult children (each with partners) and this home was perfect for our gathering. Communication with Brian was timely, efficient and helpful. Check-in was easy and flexible. The house is as pictured with plenty of room, comfortable beds, clean kitchen and baths. The outdoor spaces and yard are awesome - we felt like we were in a quiet remote spot. The location is perfect for visiting nearby restaurants, grocery stores, Jack London Historic State park and of course many wineries. We cooked one meal in and there were plenty of kitchen amenities. We highly recommend for families and hope to come back some day!

Perfect in every way
The property exceeded our expectations (and they were already pretty high)
Spent 4 nights with a reunion of friends from all across the US. We were blown away by the home. Actually more grand than the photos on the VRBO website.
Brian met us at his home and gave us a welcoming tour. He was also available to provide additional information throughout our stay....winery suggestions and restaurant recommendations.
We each had our own room with separate bath. Everything was immaculate.
The property is very private. We thoroughly enjoyed the pool and the hot tub.
I am already thinking of a return trip with my family.
Thanks for everything, Brian.

Perfect getaway for a family trip!
We spent our Labor Day week in Glen Ellen celebrating my mother-in-law’s 60th birthday. It was the perfect getaway!! The property is wonderful and has everything you could need with plenty of space for our family of 7. Brian was kind and informative and has really created an outdoor oasis.
After the last two years, it really was the perfect retreat for our family.

Lovely house
We were a group of 10, traveling to CA to taste wine. The house was large and well appointed. Brian was easy to work with. We loved the pool and outdoor space. Brian is a master gardener and take a lot of pride in his garden. It is really beautiful. The pool was great, there is a game room outside. We all wanted to stay a few more days.

Angie’s 50th Birthday Celebration!
The owner Brian was awesome! Originally, my guest and I were suppose to check-in at 4 pm but due to traffic we arrived two hours later. Brian was more than accommodating and still met us at the house to show us around. Overall, the location, property, and amenities were great. The outside grounds (pool, jacuzzi, and grilling area) were well utilized. I’m still in awe of my birthday celebration and could not have selected a better property.

Great home, great location
We had a fantastic week long stay at this lovely, well appointed home. The location is excellent - a short walk into Glen Ellen for dinner, pastries from Pascal's, or sandwiches from the market. There are a ton of wineries right up the road, and the Sonoma Botanical Garden is 5 mins away. We loved the location. The house itself is great. There are lots of indoor and outdoor spaces to enjoy so our group never felt crowded. Kitchen is well appointed, and the outdoor grilling area is fantastic. We lucked out with exceptionally warm weather, but know that the pool is only heated in the summer even if there's a warm spring day because it's still so cold at night (we knew this, just worth noting for others). The game room and hot tub were wonderful as well. The host was very communicative and responsive to any questions or needs. We had a great stay and hope to come back again!

Wonderful stay for the whole family
A stay at the Stone Retreat was just what we needed during the pandemic. Our family had a wonderful time relaxing by the pool, playing games in the game room and enjoying take out from the local restaurants. Everything was perfect - thank you for an amazing stay! I hope we will be back someday in the future!

Wine country birthday celebration
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Glen Ellen. Beautiful, secluded property that was perfect for a 50th birthday celebration in wine country with friends. Close to many wineries, walking distance from the grocery store, restaurants and a park with walking trails. Loved the pool & hot tub, too.

Birthday Trip to Wine Country
We enjoyed our stay at Stone Retreat. It was great to have a pool, hot tub, outside areas, kitchen and living room for our group's vacation. It beat staying in hotel rooms by a mile. We used the pool and hot tub every day and ended up cooking in the kitchen or on the grill each night rather than going out to eat. It's a steep windy road to the Napa wineries from Glen Ellen. Also the house does not have a/c in 4/5 bedrooms, only ceiling fans.

Great Place for Famlies
This is a really nice property located in the sleepy town of Glen Ellen. There were 9 adults in our party - 2 families - and there was plenty of room for us all to spread out. The outdoor pool, game room, spa and bbq were great and we took advantage of all the amenities. It was a relaxing place to settle into after a day of visiting wine country. The only negative feedback would be that it was not clearly stated that the whole house is not air-conditioned. I fact, only the master bedroom, living room area and kitchen are cooled. None of the other four bedrooms are and that was a problem for our group. We opened the windows at night and closed up everything during the day but it was still warm in the bedrooms which led to some complaining. While I'm sure it's not a problem during the fall and winter, it's definitely hot in Sonoma during the summer and should be noted more clearly in the property description.
The little market in the town (which is very walkable) was great and we were able to gather everything we needed for dinner each night. The restaurants looked cute, but none could easily accommodate our group size so we decided to just "eat in." Benziger Winery is close by and that was a fun stop. Overall, nice place and I would recommend. Brian was easy to work with throughout the booking and trip.

Absolutely Amazing
I came up to Glen Ellen with some women for a girls trip. We had the best time! The house was stunning and had everything we could possibly need. Glen Ellen is an absolute gem of a town and the house was walking distance to some adorable restaurants. 10/10 would recommend to any friends.

Awesome getaway!
This home is perfectly located for day trips to both Sanoma and Napa Valley. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to spend a long weekend. The home is beautiful and the outside features put it at the top of the list of nicest homes we have stayed in. We’re already looking forward to our next trip!

Awesome place and location!
We were extremely happy with our rental place. The pictures didn't do the place justice and the husband and wife that oversee the place were great! We would highly recommend this place to anyone with a large group!

A review in 2 parts....
1) The house: It was perfect for us. We were a group of 7 and had plenty of space. The property is very well maintained with high end appliances if you want to cook in (we did). A great pool, hot tub and fire pit also were used by the group. A couple of cute restaurants are within a couple of minutes down the road. To a person, we'd all return!
2) The people: Unfortunately, our last night there was the night the wild fires broke out. A couple of us woke up to the smell of smoke and were talking about what to do. The caretakers came to the house and made sure we were up and packing so we could evacuate. A scary situation for sure, but they were as concerned about our safety as their own. As we were driving out, we passed the owner and he stopped us to make sure we had good directions. We're so grateful for their concern.
Highly recommend this place!

Glen Ellen Beauty
Everything about this property is great from the beautiful house to the pool, hot tub and the entire backyard. We had 5 couples that stayed in the house and all agreed it was the perfect place to stay. Exceptionally clean and well maintained with everything working, no issues with anything. Ideal for groups of 8-10. Our only regret is that we did not stay longer. Definitely would rent this property again

Our weekend in Glen Ellen
This house is amazing! My group enjoyed every bit of it including the treehouse, pool and hot tub. The location was perfect for our itinerary and fellow travelers in our group that stayed elsewhere flocked to our house for a swim and a visit. My mother loved that "her house" was the best!!!

Private setting, immaculate house
4 couples stayed in the Glen Ellen Stone retreat for a long weekend. The setting was lovely and private. The house was immaculate and there was plenty of room for the 8 of us. When we returned from a day of wine tasting/touring, we utilized the large updated kitchen, outdoor grilling area, pool, game room and fire pit. We would stay there again!

Very Large and clean!
The house was very spacious and provided privacy for couples. The hot tub, pool and grill were in great working order. The kitchen was an excellent size and there was a second refrigerator in the garage which helped with managing our groceries. There is not an icemaker but plenty of ice was provided and the extra refrigerator allowed us to stockpile a little extra ice. The beds and pillows were very comfortable and there were plenty of seating for dinners! We come to Wine Country every other year and will be renting this home again!

Wonderful property!!
Where do I start? The owners have thought of everything to accommodate guests and the host when you get there is so helpful and welcoming. The pool and hot tub are perfect and so well kept. The bunkhouse is such a fun added amenity. The game room adds a lot of fun to any evening. The fire pit is such a great addition and so easy to use. All of the bedrooms and baths are perfect size. We had 4 couples staying and there was more than enough room to fit all of us. Glen sellen js literally a 5 min walk away which is so convenient. Seriously can't wait to visit again soon!!
