American Beach was the largest and most popular, and was a community established by Abraham Lincoln Lewis, Florida’s first black millionaire and president of the Afro-American Life Insurance Company.
American Beach was founded in 1935 by Florida’s first black millionaire, Abraham Lincoln Lewis, and his Afro-American Life Insurance Company. The plan was for his employees to have a place to vacation and own homes for their families by the shore. It was a place where African Americans could enjoy “Recreation and Relaxation Without Humiliation”. The beach included hotels, restaurants, and nightclubs as well as homes and other businesses.

The location was perfect to spend time on the beach and do some shopping as well. Great private location and not over run with people. Highly Recommend

We loved our stay at your beach house. It was clean, well decorated, had comfortable beds, great views and close beach access. We enjoyed the porch, deck and back patio with the outside shower. So much room to relax and enjoy the beautiful area with our pup. We also liked the historical books and cookbook re America Beach. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Clean, well supplied, great location! Suggest some clarity on switch functions and lighting. Had a great time!

We loved our stay at Anthony's property. Beachfront with plenty of outdoor space. The home is equipped with everything you need and offers a cozy, comfortable home base for all your beach adventures.

We couldn’t have asked for a better location! This charming beach house is right on the beach, 1 mile beach walk to the Omni and 1.75 mile beach walk to The Ritz. Our kids were spoiled by the accessibility to the beach - so convenient to come back to eat lunch, use the facilities, etc. We had plenty of room for our party of five. The next time we are on Amelia Island, we will be staying here!

Location is everything in my opinion when going to the beach. This rental location was perfect. Waking up to the sunrises daily and being a walk over the dune to the ocean was exactly what this Colorado family needed!

The owners set the gold standard for hospitality. Throughout our stay, they went above and beyond to ensure our comfort, leaving thoughtful touches that genuinely made us feel at home.
A highlight of the property was the exquisite outdoor area. Not only is it beautifully landscaped, but it also features a refreshing outdoor shower and a well-equipped bar area — perfect for unwinding and entertaining.
The proximity to Burney Park is another major plus. It's a pleasant stroll away, offering an excellent opportunity for a peaceful walk and a prime vantage point to appreciate the ocean views, even if one chooses not to or cannot tread on the beach sands.
We did encounter a minor hiccup due to unforeseen natural circumstances, but the owners were proactive and swift in their response. Before the rest of our party arrived, they had already taken measures to address and remedy the situation, displaying their utmost dedication to their guests.
In summary, our stay was not just about renting a home but experiencing genuine warmth and care from the owners. With its prime location and outdoor amenities, this rental is a haven for those looking to immerse themselves in coastal charm. Highly recommend for anyone seeking a wonderful rental experience.

We had a great stay at Candice Cove. The place was cute and comfortable. The property manager was really good at staying in contact with us. It's a nice little place that is in a very peaceful neighborhood.

The house and location were perfect for our girls' trip away. We had such a great time relaxing on the back porch listening to the ocean. The easy short walk right onto the beach was perfect. We couldn't have asked for a better location.

This is my favorite place to go when on vacation. This place is amazing. This was a 2nd time here and it was even better. I have already scheduled my next stay. The upgrades to the bathrooms was super nice. I would give this place more than 5 stars.

We really enjoyed our stay at Candace Cove. The house was clean and comfortable and the cold AC was very much appreciated. There was plenty of space for the 7 adults who stayed in the house. We appreciated the 3 bathrooms, outdoor showers and that there was plenty of seating in all areas. The house was stocked with pretty much all supplies we needed. The dunes block the beach view, but the back porch and outdoor areas were perfect for enjoying the beach breeze and the sound of the waves. The beach was steps away from the house and we enjoyed that the beach was clean and relatively uncrowded, even during a holiday week. No complaints from our group, and we would definitely return to Candace Cove!

Our family had a terrific time staying at Candice Cove. Although the house was small, it was packed with every amenity you could possibly need while on vacation. Being oceanfront was extremely convenient. The beach was wide and never crowded. Our family spent a great deal of time on the spacious back porch and patio. The area under the house was a terrific haven for family game time when a few thunderstorms popped up during our stay. The owner of the property was FANTASTIC! I have never stayed at a property with such a responsive and kind owner. He truly wanted to make our stay enjoyable and bent over backwards to do so. We have already booked the property for next year because it was so good.

This is our family's 5th year going to Amelia Island, and we only rent houses on this street for the great beach access and historical importance. We loved this rental! We liked the charm of this historic home with touches of modern finishes here and there. And the outdoor space was absolutely wonderful! Plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the sound of the waves. There is even an outdoor shower in the courtyard with cold AND hot water! We will definitely be staying again!

It was a wonderful property…. Very clean. Quaint and cozy but very up-to-date. Lots of towels and the outdoor space was amazing!

This was our fourth time vacationing on Amelia Island in the past seven years and the first time at this property. The house is in a great location on the edge of the neighborhood, south of town but close to Harris Teeter, restaurants, and anything else you might need, and it was right on the beach.
Lots of outdoor space to hang out when the beach got too windy. The interior space was adequate considering we weren't inside all that much. The photos online of the listing give the impression of bigger rooms than they actually are, and they might be a little outdated. I know the ocean climate can do a number on houses, cars, etc., and that may be the case here. Everything was fairly weathered, and that recognizable Florida décor had lost some of its vibrancy. On the other hand, our young kids loved everything about the house & patios, their nautical themed bedroom, the beach, the turtles, and this in turn is the reason we all enjoyed our stay here on Amelia Island.

Loved the space under house and the backyard setup and being close to the beach also being away from everyone

Place was jam up & nice. Location in a nice spot. Outside area was big. Little pricy.

This charming beach house feels just like a treasured family retreat. It was spotlessly clean, well-equipped, and very comfortable. The proximity to the beach is incredible. Both Anthony, the owner, and Bernard, the property manager, were very proactive in making sure we were settled in and happy, which we were! The American Beach area is rich in history and natural beauty. We hope to have the opportunity to return for a longer stay.

The house is in a great location along a nice section of beach. It was clean, and everything worked as needed or was quickly addressed by the very responsive owner. While the listing does a good idea of the layout and decor of the home, the home has aged a bit since the photos were taken: nearly all the nails outside on the decks and and railings are rusting, wood boards are loose around the downstairs area, floor is collapsing in the down stairs bathroom, outside faucets are rusting off, back porch table was starting to disintegrate. The kitchen is very tight on space if you plan to bring anything, but it was functional enough for us to cook meals for 4 adults and 3 kids the whole week.
If you are looking for a cozy, clean house on the beach and don't need much beyond that this house is great. With a good bit of TLC, this house could be a really great retreat for anyone looking to enjoy a quiet beach.

This cottage doesn’t look like much when you get there but it turned out to be the most relaxing, comfortable place. Loved the back covered porch with plenty of seating and ocean views. Beds were very comfortable and the place was impeccably clean. The Wi-Fi was spotty at times. Any problems we had were addressed immediately . Plenty of outside space to lounge in ! We would love to go back!

The house has unique outdoor space for a beach house. It has lots of seating, and it would be great to stay longer to enjoy it more next time.

The property has a great location beach front. It is in disrepair. Plumbing screams.
Furniture is uncomfortable and mostly too large for some of the rooms. Falling apart.
For a party in the downstairs it should be a great fit . No dishwasher but I missed that in the listing
4.8
This house is right on the beach. We had a lot of fun watching the games downstairs with the bar. Fun time!

Great location! The property was clean and very nice. We enjoyed our stay

I wanted a comfortable place to spend time with my grandchildren and great grandchildren while attending my daughter's wedding. I selected this listing because it is similar to my little cabin in the woods but this one on the beach. Perfect for playing with a 2 year old. Comfortable, real and loved all the reading materials about American Beach its history. Thanks for the phone call greeting us and also welcoming us to the house personally.

This house was perfect for our family. We had plenty of room to stretch out and enjoy our extended weekend.
The location was excellent as it was private but close enough to nearby restaurants. The living room was nice for the family to be in and enjoy a game/tv. The outside areas are amazing. Our favorite area was the large back porch. We spent a lot of time out there. The back courtyard areas were great as well as the entertainment area downstairs. The nice large tv was great for watching ballgames.
Even though we didn’t have great weather (late October) the proximity to the beach was wonderful.
Overall, it was a great place to stay. The host is very responsive and very nice. I would recommend the property and would definitely stay here again.

This was a great ON THE BEACH location. The home is historic and very charming. Lots of outdoor space to hang out. Also good for wedding, events, etc. due to the space downstairs. We will go back.
4.8
The owners were great at getting back to us answering our questions about the property. Very helpful.
4.8
The house was perfect for our small family reunion trip of 5. We were able to relax on the plentiful outdoor spaces and the beach was over the dunes. Would definitely come back with the size party we had to enjoy this beach area.

My friends and I made a deal to return to Candace Cove every year and this was our third year visiting this wonderful home. The home is extremely charming and offers many opportunities to have a great time such as watching the sun rise and set from the beautiful porch directly facing the ocean to karaoke and dancing in the downstairs enclosure. You can spend as much time outside as inside and still hear the waves from the ocean. We love it there and will be back again next year!

The house was perfect for us and you can’t beat the beach access.

This property was awesome and beautiful.. defenitly recommend to everyone .

This is the second time my family has visited Amelia Island and we love this beach. This property did not disappoint, the location is perfect. We saw so many turtles during our stay! We would see 2 turtles on the property everyday, we saw turtles on the beach and we would see several turtles while driving on the road to the home. We loved it! The downstairs area is extremely nice. I do wish we spent more time down there but overall the house was well clean and put together nicely. I would definitely come back to this property!
