About this house rental
The perfect spot for your family reunion or multi-family retreat, with room for 4 families to spread out comfortably and the most fully stocked kitchen you've ever rented.
UPDATE ON SUMMER RENTALS: Because summers have been booking up 2 years in advance, we are trying something different. For 2022 and beyond, we are accepting only 6-night rentals, Saturday to Friday, for the summer rental season (June through Labor Day). Join our wait list to get notified when we have a cancelation: https://groups.google.com/g/lake-sutherland-paddle-club-fans
We have traveled the world and decided this is our favorite place to vacation with our kids. The house itself is not fancy, but is laid out to accommodate 4+ separate families and their kids, or at least 5 couples. It is well equipped for our favorite activities including cooking, paddling, and enjoying cozy time with the family. You’ll find high chairs, kid dishes, toys, floaties, pack-n-plays, games, life jackets, and other items we stock for a weekend away with our own small kids.
The hot tub is located on the front patio with a lake view!
Lake Sutherland is an ideal home base for your trip to the Olympic Peninsula. Port Angeles is less than a 20 minute drive away, with restaurants, bars and coffee shops. The northwest coast is less than an hour drive to the west, with hiking and breathtaking pacific beaches. The lake itself is clear, clean, great for swimming, boating and fishing. In the summer the water can reach 70 degrees or higher. Shadow Mountain General Store is walking distance from the house with ice, burgers, basic groceries and gas.
Your rental includes three separate buildings. It is great for family reunions because you can have a baby in almost every bedroom and they won’t wake each other up.
Main house: 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms. Queen suite has a full-size hide a-bed couch in its attached sitting area and has a private entrance, and views over the lake and mountains. Master suite has a king size bed, private ensuite bathroom, and sitting area with a fold down single couch. Third smaller bedroom has a full size bed. Fully equipped kitchen and dining room makes cooking for large groups easy. Large sitting area with comfortable furnishings, pub table, pellet stove and wide screen TV, with a sliding door to patio. Laundry room with an extra stove/oven and refrigerator for those larger crowds. Large covered porch with couches and chairs.
Bunk house: Queen bedroom and bunk room. Queen bedroom has a 3/4 ensuite bathroom. Bunk room has 4 twin beds and 1/2 bath with a pull-out sleeper sofa. Pool table, air hockey, foosball and board games, and a bunch more outdoor games. Bunk house queen bedroom is mobility accessible.
Studio: Open floor plan with kitchen, dining nook, living room, and a separate 3/4 bathroom. Queen bed and queen pull-out sleeper sofa.
The grounds: Plenty of outdoor fun is awaiting you here with hot tub, horse shoe pit, two fire pits, outdoor barbecue, kids' play structure, volley ball, croquet, and large fenced yard to spread your wings while also enjoying the eagles spreading theirs. Kayaks, paddle boards, pedal boats, and a canoe are available for your use. The property features amazing privacy - it is bordered by trees all the way to your own private dock.
Please consider seasonal details:
July & August are the driest weather and book a year in advance.
Sept & October include beautiful fall colors, often weather in the 60s and 70s, but sometimes can be wet. Lake may still be high 60s depending on the year.
Nov - Feb can include snow, occasionally over a foot deep. At times, you may need 4wd to drive the last quarter mile from the highway to the house. Dock may not be accessible if lake is high. Canoe and other boats are still available for your use; please be safe.
March & April flowers start to bloom and you could get some T-shirt days.
May & June can include warm days with temps in the 70s, but also wet days, and lake will be cool, likely in the 60s.

Great property for large families. We enjoyed our stay.

We had a spectacular time at this perfectly located property. Lake Sutherland is right there and so beautiful, but you're also close to Lake Crescent and Olympic National Park. The set-up was terrific for our 3 generations of family. Lots of space, games & activities galore, and the most well-stocked kitchen and home we've been to. Absolutely loved it!

Overall, our trip was wonderful!
Pros:
Multiple dwellings for multiple families
Privacy from neighbors (and each other if needed :))
Well setup for young kids with indoor and outdoor toys
Well setup for older kids with pool, foosball, and ping pong, bunk house
Kitchen was well-stocked
Beautiful property with enough room from badminton
Gate access to dock and water for child safety
Nice dock large enough for a group.
Clear, clean water
Tons of water toys and life jackets for all ages
Kind, accommodating and responsive hosts
Cons:
Hot tub could have been a bit cleaner
Not much actual shoreline to wade in and what is there is deep mud
Weeds and algae in deeper waters off dock, but deep enough that it didn't hinder swimming
Wish their were views of the lake from more rooms in the main house
All the cons are ticky-tacky and the pros by far outweigh all of those. It was a wonderful stay and I would highly recommend it.

We chose this place for a family gathering with our kids, grands. What a gorgeous location and view! Lots of room, with three families we each basically had our own private space. Perhaps the biggest bonus was all of the toys/books for the littles (age 3&4) - they had plenty to do! And the adults had lots to choose from too - kayaks, paddle boats, air hockey, pool, hot tub, etc.
we had a couple of issues but the owners were great to communicate with and took care of the problems quickly. We would definitely stay here again.

We loved our stay here! This was a beautiful spot for exploring the national park. The house and property are huge and set up wonderfully for a group of families. This was the most well stocked home we’ve ever visited- anything you could ever need was there. We definetly hope to return someday!

The cost, big beautiful backyard right on the lake and all the sleeping options made this place the right choice for us! We had a very diverse group - three different families, kids from 7 - 16 and really enjoyed all the space to spread out and come together for meals and games. The house itself does need some updating but for the cost, the value could not be beat.

I have one sister and two brothers, we are all in our 60s. Between us we have 7 children and 5 grandchildren ages 1 1/2. Months to 43. There were enough beds for everyone.
Could not believe how equipped this place was from condiments, ices, pots, and pans silverware. They even had Q-tips in the bathroom with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash enough towels that everyone had towels there was a washer and dryer.. I can say this I was overwhelmed by all of the stuff they had just in the house and how big the house was. We sat around the table and played cards and games, and there was enough room for everyone.
The stuff they had outside boats and kayaks, and lifejackets was quite excellent. There was the game room with pool, tables and air hockey and ping-pong and foosball. There was something in this house for everyone and the games galore. My grandchildren had something to do all the time. Never once did they get on our nerves because there was something for them to do never heard a peep out of them.
The dock was close 1 March all of my sons and nephews went for a polar plunge and ran up to the hot tub. Did not hear a complaint from anyone in my family, which is a miracle. My mother absolutely loved this time she got to spend with all of her children and her grandchildren in the same place for the first time in years and years.
I definitely recommend this place. It’s beautiful I cannot describe how absolutely perfect this place is and it’s only 20 minutes out of P.A.

Clearly this space means a great deal to the family who graciously shared it with us. The house was well appointed, welcoming, and provided an outstanding base camp to the many adventures that await in Olympic National Park. The description of the house was very accurate and the experience exceeded our expectations.

We stayed for our annual book club retreat. We do a lot of cooking and the kitchen was well equipped. Easily accommodated our group of 10. The dock on the lake a bit of heaven. Beds were comfy. Lots of out door space. Is great for families with young children! Lots of toys etc. elegant river hike was awesome! Would go again.

The only complaint that our family had is that we didn't get to stay long enough! Can we stay another day please?! This was absolutely a piece of paradise! The water toys that were provided along with life jackets, allowed us to have a wonderful time from morning until sundown! Then we moved our celebration to the hot tub, and fire pit. We had 16 guest and everyone had a bed to lay their head, and even take a break. We had a blast playing horseshoes, and the kids had fun playing on the jungle gym. Taking in the view and feeding the ducks was by far the best part of our days! We are already planning a return.

Our stay was nothing less than amazing. The hosts were incredibly kind and accommodating. The property is unrivaled. We're already planning a return trip.

The house was wonderful. The location was perfect. We spent most of our time seeing the park and did not take advantage of the house and lake. You could truly never leave the house and have a great vacation. It was clean and comfortable. Every pot, dish or spice you may have needed was there. We loved our stay.
On a personal note my family is very sensitive to perfumes and scent. We did smell a thing. The detergent and lotion at the house was unscented.

Our extended family of 8 adults and 9 kids (ages 0-6) very much enjoyed our week at Lake Sutherland! We had so much fun on the lake and playing in the large yard, and the kids were huge fans of the many toys available. Would definitely stay here again!

Generous Hosts, Wonderful Yard, Stunning Location
We LOVED our stay here! Every member of our party agreed that this is the most generously supplied house we have ever rented. Our family arrived at the property from four different states with babies, teens, parents and grandparents. We were not able to bring a lot of supplies and were so thankful to find EVERYTHING a family could want to have time and place for relaxation as well as fun and adventure. There is truly something for everyone at this property. We loved the hot tub, the fire pit, the large yard for lawn games, the dock with tons of water toys and life jackets, great patio furniture, the spacious and comfortable rooms, the extra refrigerators, plenty of towels and bedding etc. Our family had a wonderful time. Thank you for being such thoughtful and generous hosts.

Perfect Property for Large Family Group
My wife and I, 2 daughters, 2 sons-in-law, and 6 grandchildren (ages 7-13) spent a wonderful week at this property. With the acreage and the almost three separate dwellings, the property worked well to give us all some space and privacy at times when needed. The kids, big and small, loved the lake and the equipment to enjoy the lake provided by the owner. Also the bunk room with pool table, was a big hit, along with ping pong, swing set, etc
The property is nothing fancy, but it is well stocked, and extremely comfortable. What little communication we needed with the owner, was very quick and easy.
This property helped make our family's adventure in the Pacific Northwest totally amazing.

Family reunion
Wonderful house on the lake with lots of space for all 16 of us. There were 10 20-something year olds and 6 50-something year old parents. Great jumping off point for many adventures in the Olympics. WiFi was not the greatest in the evenings when everyone was there but seemed to work okay for those needing to work during the day. Lots of water toys, space to spread out, games to play, TV’s to watch. Overall a great place!

Family getaway
Grand parents, 2 adult children and spouces, and 4 little ones 4 and under. Well equipped kitchen for all of our meals, plenty of toys for the little people and space to run and explore outside. It was wonderful to be out in nature, and one morning see a fleeting double rainbow over the lake. The little people loved taking turns taking a kayak ride, and even getting in the hot tub with mom or dad for a short period of time. Short hikes were nearby, and one mom was even able to escape by herself for awhile for a longer hike and climb.
A beautiful place and area for a mini fmily getaway.

We were so happy
Everyone in our big family (16 people) were happy there, we stayed only 3 days, everyone said it was not enough , even though this house not too fancy, but very homey, I love the styles that every room arranged, very nice and so much room for everyone , so much toys, books and other things to do for kids, also hot tub is a very good addition to spend time in cold weather, thank you very much

Best house on the lake
We have stayed at many different houses on Lake Sutherland, but no other house has come close to the perfection that this house is. The amount of space is unbelievable. We had a large group with 4 families. Everyone had their own bedroom and plenty of bunkbeds for all the kiddos. Pool Table, Ping Pong, Firepit, Huge yard. Absolutely perfect. I can't wait to stay here again.

Best lake house for the family. Perfect accommodations for children of all ages. The lake is absolutely beautiful and warm. Lots of awesome lake toys + paddle board, kayaks, peddle boats, and canoe. For those of you staying in the summer time, make sure you bring a fan. The house gets super hot, but does cool down at night. The house does have a fan for use which is nice. Awesome swing set for use as well, which was a bonus for the kids. The house is old, so do not expect anything fancy, but it gives you a cozy grandparent-like feel, which makes it well worth it. Really close to hiking trails and Lake Cresent - if we could have stayed all summer we would have! :) Our family loved this place and hope to get to come back for years to come. Thank you Kelly and family for sharing your beautiful home with us!!

Family gathering for grandma's 80th birthday
Ideal spot for multi-age family gathering. We loved that the grandparents could have their own cottage and kitchen and the teens had their own bunkhouse with loads of entertainment, leaving the main house for the other adults. This home had the best stocked rental kitchen we've ever seen, which made meal prep for a large group so easy. Wonderful dock; we brought a shade canopy, which helped a lot as it's full sun all day. If you read paper books v. kindle/ phone/tablet, you might want to bring a headlamp as the bedside tables aren't the best reading lights. Overall, fantastic location, super comfortable and perfectly stocked for a big group. We'll be back.

Perfect family getaway
We had 2 family units with kids ranging from 3 to 15, one couple and two single people staying here for a little family reunion. We had plans to visit Forks and Sequim, so this was a great location for us. Being right on the lake with a private dock was amazing. I appreciated the gate on the dock for safety reasons with our littles. With the kid toys and books, the pool table, foosball, ping pong, the playset outside and the t.v.s, there was always something for everyone to do. I loved that there was plenty of large spaces that our group of 16 could comfortably gather together, but also plenty of space to spread out when we needed a little more space or privacy. Kelly was wonderful for communicate with and was an attentive host. We loved it and hope to come back.

Amazing experience!
Absolutely wonderful property. Lake Sutherland was a blessing during the PNW heat wave. The kids loved the lake and the water was pristine. Zach was very helpful throughout the check-in process. We can't wait to come back one day!

What a great location to explore olympic national park.
There were 3 families that stayed at this house and each had plenty of room as well as having the bunk house for all the kids to hang out together. The kitchen and grill was as fully stocked as a cook could ever hope so we were able to make scratch made soups, breakfast each day, grill steaks, make smores on an open fire, pastas, brownies.... The bonus of having a long hiking day up hurricane ridge and being able to soak in the hot tub and the next day getting on the water in canoes and SUPs was amazing. We even saw the local otter on the dock. Would stay again and wish we could have stayed longer.
