About this house rental
The Durango Mine Shaft, a humble vacation rental in the Animas Valley in Durango, is nestled among some of the largest pines in the Animas Valley and bordered by a seasonal creek which can be viewed from the two decks or from the comfort of the hot tub. This home offers a true Southwest Colorado experience. Indoors, light a fire and make your gourmet meal in the kitchen with granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances. Days filled with activities will have you sleeping well in this home, which sleeps 10. WI FI and cable tv mean you don't lose touch with the world, unless you choose to! For booking information, and information about additional activities available, contact Scott at number listed below.
This home is a 1970's A frame style cabin that has an eclectic Colorado Outdoor Lover's decor. It is set back off the road, on a 2 acre property with an 8 ft privacy fence in the front dividing the shared driveway with another home. There are tons of hiking trails within a short drive. It is located a half mile from Trimble Hot Springs & Spa and 10 minutes to Durango City Limits.
This home is best suited for folks who want to gather together in an open floor plan, enjoy the serenity of the tall trees, play outside during the day in Durango's ENORMOUS backyard, and live the good life in the moment. This is our cabin in the woods that is close to town. It does not boast elegant finishing touches, suburban curb appeal, or the shine of a new home. But it has upgrades where we think it counts, is comfortable and unique. We hope you will enjoy it too!
Durango's Premier Sailing Adventure Company, Peaks and Tides, offers sailing charters for morning and sunset cruises, lessons, team building stay and sail packages and more with exclusive offers for Mineshaft guests.

Very nice decor. Kitchen well stocked. Secluded, quiet area. Great access to Durango and surrounding area.

Very roomy and well kept.

Cabin was adequate. Hard to see address behind the weeds. Wish the description would have said an irrigation ditch was right beside the cabin, as we had a toddler in the party.

Great location. Air condition was a smaller unit and did not cool the house so we had to keep windows and doors open. Each bedroom had its own air system and was good. Parking is an issue for 12 people but Scott was great helping work it out. The grills have holes rusted in the bottom but worked. The place served it’s purpose but would not recommend it.

We only got to stay two nights since we were passing through, but wish it was longer! Wonderful, peaceful place to stay and relax.

This place was cool. Lots of spiders and I’m sure we had some sort of rodent as our food that was left on the counter had corners missing and chew marks on the bags/food. Otherwise this place was a perfectly placed getaway!!

It was amazing, hiking trails, secluded and a very open cabin plan to include everyone.

The property was slightly outdated. There is a bit of a walk to property from parking. This was a chore hauling in and out luggage and kids things. Not much room for little kids to play outside and one area was covered with dog poop. Otherwise worked fine for what we needed.

Loved our stay. Beutiful scenery. It was a bit difficult for my 91 year old dad to get into the house; just for anyone with disabilities, a bit of a uphill path and 10 stairs up.

We had an excellent time at the Mineshaft! The kids enjoyed the stream in front of the house, they loved hiking up the mountain behind the house, we all enjoyed the hot tub, and there was plenty of patio space for all 12 of us to hang out on. It isn’t too far from Durango (7 min.) or Purgatory (15 min.).
If you are looking for a luxurious vacation home, this isn’t it. It is rustic and has character. It was perfect for our family. It’s not very roomy inside, but we spent most of our time outside and doing various adventures around the area.
I will say, if you have bad knees, or if you are going with older people who don’t get around very easy, this probably isn’t a good place for you to stay. It is a short uphill hike to the house, and you have to walk up a pretty steep staircase to get in to the house. That’s not really a complaint, just a warning for those who need to consider something like that on their vacation.

Overall the house was ok. Seems like the pics were a doctored up version of what we found on arrival. A/C was ineffective. The house was hot, deck and outdoor furniture could use some attention.

Had a good time. Plenty of room and pretty much everything we needed.

The kitchen is just as pictured, clean and updated. The bathrooms are nice and had everything we needed. Enjoyed the hot tub in the chilly evenings. My only critiques are about cosmetic things outside that didn’t affect anyones stay. Very happy overall and would recommend others to choose the Mineshaft for a cozy hangout.

Very nice cabin and property. Close to Durango and other activities but at the same time secluded. Tremendously enjoyed our stay, especially sitting out on the deck near the small creek. Kids enjoyed hiking up into the woods behind the cabin. No issues at all with the property - will definitely consider coming back again.

This rustic A frame cabin is quaint, there is a stream along side the house; furniture and beds were comfortable. House VERY clean and neat. The kitchen is amazing and is fully stocked. 2 different patio areas, 2 grills and a hot tub! The master room has its own little deck. House has a Nice view of the mountains. We had 5 adults in our party and had plenty of space..
Scott was an attentive host, an easy to get a hold of. If I could give 10 stars I would.

Our group of 7 really enjoyed our stay at this lovely property! Nestled in the trees with great views, a stream running by the front patio, and easy access to Durango - we couldn’t have found a better spot! In addition to three private bedrooms, there is a loft space with two full beds, which was perfect for us all to have our own space. While the house leaned a bit rustic, it had most everything we needed and was comfortable for a two night stay!

There were 5 of us that needed a place to stay instead of driving home. The Mineshaft was the perfect place and close to the venue. Wish we could have stayed longer. Definitely would stay there again.

The cabin is exactly how they described on the post. Older but cozy environment. Perfect central location, we were minutes away from Purgatory resort, horse carriage adventures, Downtown Durango, Hot Springs. There were a few downers for me because I like luxury but not deal breakers. I wear makeup, the lighting is definitely different than I’m used but once again, not a deal breaker. View was amazing

We loved this property!!! It is in the woods so we seen a bear!! The first one I have ever seen big black bear. The house has great views on this beautiful creek and woods behind the property. The neighbors are the best the smoker the food was amazing and smells so good! The property owner is so nice and available to help we didn’t get there til 1130 pm and he was there to help.

My husband, our three teenaged sons, my 80 year old mother, and my sister and her husband stayed here. Everyone had their own sleeping spaces between the 3 bedrooms and two separate loft sleeping areas. We had family in their 70s and 80s staying at a nearby campground and we comfortably gathered at our place 3 nights in a row for dinner.
The hosts are wonderful and very helpful. The hot tub is a great bonus. Beautiful hiking trails right behind the house.

Great host.
We enjoyed our time at this vrbo. The house sits behind another house but it is quiet and fairly secluded. The path to the house is a short distance and was not a problem for our crew. A brook runs next to the house and adds serenity to quiet nights on the deck. The house was roomy and equipped with everything you'll need, grill included. The upstairs "master" has a very comfortable bed and small, full bathroom as well as a small private deck. This house was centrally located for us, sitting a few miles north of Durango with easy drives to trails. We enjoyed Old Lime Creek Road a few miles up the road - actually some of the best views I've seen on our many Jeep excursions. We also enjoyed Ophir Pass and made time for Silverton and Ouray. Scott was a great host and made our stay enjoyable. We'll be back.

A different kind of cabin in the woods
We just spent an early Thanksgiving with family at this cabin. On the plus side, there is a lot of room, many bedrooms, a full kitchen, wood fireplace and a hot tub. On the needs improvement side, it's very rustic and desperately needs a new dishwasher.

could of used a little work
All the windows were just plain filthy. not overstating. the property was overgrown with grass and weeds. the owners were very nice and quick to offer some favorite areas to visit. Required a pet fee but they're dogs ran freely and were not picked up after. would i stay again?. Not necessarily

Cozy cabin with great location
We were on a road trip so this was a 1 night stay before our next destination. Scott happened to be there when we arrived and was extremely friendly and helpful with his local knowledge. We loved the cabin and all it's offerings. The hot springs were right down the road which was the perfect ending to a long day of driving.

Incredible Property
We had an amazing experience at the mineshaft!! It was breathtaking! I saw some reviews about the distance to enter, the dated status of the cabin… let me tell you—if you appreciate life at all—you will appreciate this incredible property!! It is perfect for a family centered vacation, the kitchen had everything we needed! We saw wildlife, we hiked, we enjoyed showers and rainbows. It could not have been more perfect!! Would highly recommend to ANYONE and EVERYONE!! Would definitely stay again and again and again!!

Secluded home on creek
This property is located about 7 miles north of Durango. It is back from the road, on a fast moving creek. Two porches provide plenty of opportunity to enjoy the outside and views of the mountains. If you have young children, you will need to watch them carefully near the water. There are three bedrooms, each with queen sized beds. Two additional beds are located on the second level, open to the living room below. This worked well for our family of 9. Kitchen has been modernized; other areas could use some updating. Good trails are nearby. We loved Durango - but were also glad to be out of town just far enough to feel a part of the Colorado mountain country.

Unhappy
I stayed 3 nights with my family. Disappointed with the cleanliness and condition of the property. Found the small dryer “packed” with sheet sets and MANY towels in it. If these were washed in the small washer, they couldn’t have gotten very clean due to the size of the load. The whole house, hot tub and outdoor furniture could have used a good cleaning. I have rented many vacation homes and this ranks a one of the least favorites. I would not recommend.

Friendly property manager, great views and porch areas. Not overly clean but not bad either.

Colorado Weekend
Beautiful house on a large property with another home, garden, creek and a yurt! The rental house still feels super private so you can enjoy the outdoor space with your group. Walking distance to hot springs! We cooked dinner outside on the BBQ, hung out in the hot tub, and enjoyed the gorgeous night sky.
