Custom designed by the owner to combine the best features of island living with the comfort and luxury to which you are accustomed, El Castillo Maya has two beautiful palapa areas for your relaxation and enjoyment. The “Tortuga Palapa” on the second level just outside of the Tortuga Suite to the open terrace where there is a private entrance to the Master Suite. Up another level above the Master Bedroom Suite is “The Blue Moon Palapa”, a large rooftop terrace, partially shaded.
Island-themed tile and stone handwork can be seen throughout on the floors of the palapas and in and around the house. Carved rails adorning the exterior staircases and the interior stairs and carved handrails are fashioned of salam, a local exotic hardwood noted for its durability and dark burnished beauty. Glass blocks are strategically placed in walls to welcome sunlight, and in the master suite to showcase a collection of seashells. Local art is displayed on the walls and throughout the house.
The house was designed for maximum versatility. The ground-level oceanfront two bedroom unit has a large living room opening onto the pool deck and ocean beyond through sliding glass doors. A fully equipped kitchen and dining room are adjacent. The beautiful staircase leads up to the second floor Master Suite, which can be rented separately by locking the door at the top of the staircase and entering through a private exterior entry, or used as the master bedroom of a three bedroom house. The Master Suite has a King bed, a Jacuzzi tub with panoramic ocean view, a kitchenette area, with sink, fridge and coffee maker.
The additional separate Luxury Studio, with full kitchen, full bathroom with shower, queen bed, and couch can be a private and complete fourth bedroom, or can be rented separately. The entire villa is attractively and comfortably furnished to make your stay even more enjoyable.
Above the Luxury Studio, you will find the newly built Tortuga Suite. It features a king size bed, kitchenette, sunlit shower room, large screen TV and a private terrace overlooking the ocean. Like the Studio, it can be added to complete the 5 bedroom house or is available separately, depending on the season.
El Castillo Maya sits side-by-side with Casa Azul del Caribe, another new house with four bedrooms. Owned separately, they share a lovely patio and swimming pool with swim up bar. They can be combined to sleep 16-20 people, making this a perfect place to host a family reunion or a wedding. The entire complex is nicely landscaped and has plenty of off-street parking for golf-carts and other vehicles. What a great place to enjoy your island vacation!

Stayed here for my 30th birthday party and we enjoyed the home very much! Great location and a FANTASTIC view. We had 11 people stay and we had plenty of space. There were blow-up mattresses there we set up in the living room for those who didn't want to share beds. The pool is perfect and the outdoor areas are very cool. Everyone who helps with the home helped us out while we stayed and they were awesome. Would definitely stay again!

This property is great for couples who want some privacy. We rented all five bedrooms. The location was great. You could walk to restaurants, bars, convenience, store, and to the marina. There is really no beach out front, it is pretty rocky but we did manage to go snorkeling at a reef right in front of the house. Our only complaint was that the queen beds did not seem like they were queens - they felt more like double beds. Also, there were three barking dogs that we heard every day across the street along with gas powered scooters and golf carts. The hosts was quick to reply and the cleaning lady came mid week to clean up.

The house was perfect for our group of 5 couples. Great location - housekeeper close to property so if you needed anything she was right there. Pool was awesome and we loved the view. Property owners were quick to respond to our needs. Highly recommend this property. We had a blast and will be back!!!

Beautiful home, great location, attentive management. Comfortable beds, nicely appointed kitchen, million dollar view, great central location. Property manager was wonderful with minor issues when they inevitably pop up.

The home has a great location. Plenty of parking for our golf carts. Some of the amenities were not available. The jacuzzi in the master bedroom was not operational as was the hot tub and restroom on the top deck. The home needed maintenance and upgrading to make it ideal. We still enjoyed our stay. We had some electrical issues and the maintenance man was very responsive to repair the situation. We had a great stay and would not take too much to bring this place back up to it original condition. If the upgrades were made, we would have no problem coming again. Its still a great and affordable place for a family.

This house was perfect for our family with older kids who wanted to bring friends. We loved the size of the pool, which you do share with the neighbors next door but no big deal. It was plenty big! With 2 apartments and a master suite there was plenty of room for everyone to have their own space. We will definitely consider this house in the future!

Great property! Very attentive host. Plenty of space for our family of 8. Amazing outdoor space. Pool is shared with the other house on the property which was not a problem for us. We will definitely come back again!

We will never stay in a hotel again in Isla. This house was incredible, the views, the location central to all, and the property managers made sure to communicate and respond promptly to our questions. We will rent this house for years to come!!!!

Amazing property!
My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at El Castillo Maya. The house is just gorgeous and is right on the water, and the pool was awesome. The hot tub in the main bedroom didn't work, but that was the only issue. The bedrooms are spacious, the AC was great, plenty of hot water, and you just can't beat the rooftop view. There are cafes and small shops within walking distance, but to get to town I recommend renting golf carts. There were 6 of us in the house and it felt very comfortable. I would definitely recommend this property!

Wonderful trip with adult children!
We had fabulous time! We had two issues that were responded to immediately! We needed air mattress and sheets. Housekeepers brought sheets within 2 hours. There are air mattresses in the downstairs bedroom closet. There was no pump, but one was self inflating. It didn’t work well, so one slept on the couch. Had issue with door lock by pool and was responded to in timely manner. Beautiful view! We had Chef Josefano and Jorge come for two dinners and a breakfast. That was amazing! Felipe at Coco Jaguar arranged fishing trip on Roberto’s boat. Felipe then cooked our catch at the restaurant. Golf cart rental at Ciro’s was easy and the carts are great. Will be back!

Great place at a awesome location
Everything was great and Jake and his family were very nice. We had a large group of 11 and had the main house including the two self contained units that were right next door which gave a few of the older kids more privacy. Never needed the AC since being on the eastern coast with the constant breeze kept the entire place cool.

Great location and view!
This house was excellent for our 2 families with pre-teen/teen kids. There were a few items that didn’t completely align with listing - bathtub in master didn’t work, rooftop ‘pool’ didn’t exist anymore and there was a weird open toilet on it, but overall it was a great stay. The views are amazing and location was away from the craziness of Hildalgo, but still within walking distance of quite a bit.

Best place I've stayed in Isla
For my 3rd trip to Isla I decided to stay a little away from downtown. As it was less than 5 minutes to get to downtown, this location was awesome. We could have our own place to relax. Stocked with lots of water and comfy beds, food and a market close by, and beautiful sunrises.
I would stay here again and again.

Isla Round Two
This was mine and my husband's second time to Isla. We stayed farther north this time and this location was great! Walking distance to lots of shops and restaurants. The house was very clean and well maintained. We did have an issue with one of the safes and my email to the property never received a response. He did stop in a couple days later to check on things, but we had already solved the problem. More instructions in the house books wouldve been nice too... what day Irma comes, where to throw the garbage bags, etc. Just a couple small things to an otherwise AMAZING stay!! Thank you Jake for sharing your beautiful home with us.

Beautiful home, location and fun pool.
The house is gorgeous, and the view spectacular, esp. from the rooftops!
We are an extended family of 10 and didn't realize that 2 of the bedrooms were outside the main house with separate entries. We made the best of it, but it would have been nice to know that in advance.
Yoyo and (Angelo?--Drew's asssistant) were very nice and helpful. My phone worked sporadically so I tried e-mailing Drew at the address on the instructions, but didn't get a response. I was eventually able to call him about other issues and he sent Yoyo to help out, which was wonderful:)

Great for a large family
We chose this property because we have a large family. There were 9 adults and 5 kids. The design of the house is interesting and suited us all quite well. Would I stay here again? Probably not. The check in process was frustrating. We got keys from a lock box which is fine but we arrived to a completely dark and sweltering house. They knew we were coming but didn't so much as leave a fan or a light on. We couldn't find one of the bedrooms. When we did, the door was locked of course because they are accessible from the outside. We finally found keys in a basket on the kitchen table which would have been nice to know about. We spent far too long trying to find the rooms, keys, cool down the house, etc. No one there to greet us and feel welcome. The shower heads could use updating or cleaning as they are covered in calcium buildup. The master bath with the jet tub went unused because the water came out so slow it took 30 min to get 2 inches of water in there. A waste. The view was spectacular, the location was perfect., the pool was used a lot by the kids and they loved it. One or two umbrellas on the deck would have been nice as there was a lot of sun coverage. The grocery store was very close which was great because we cooked a lot. The available kitchenware was adequate but we could not get the oven to work. Stove worked fine. The housekeeper, Irma, was lovely. She stopped by the day after we arrived and introduced herself. She cleaned once while we were there but it would have been nice to have 2 cleanings. The property manager, Drew, was on vacation so Alfredo stopped by the day after we arrived and checked on us. Our TV was not working which was a very big deal to the sports fans (Soccer finals). The TV and a fan we could not get to work were fixed on Monday. The Wifi was spotty. Sometimes it was off but then came back. Beds were very nice. The people staying in the two downstairs Q bed rooms were getting bug bites. My bro-in law who is in pest control identified bed bugs. We alerted the management who said there are no bed bugs in Mexico. While that may be true something got them in bed every night and they killed a few of them. I trust they will look at it and take action if necessary. We had no security issues and kept our doors locked everywhere. The safes didn't work but we didn't have any thefts. I felt safe here and loved all the places within walking distance. A golf cart is a must though! All in all it was a decent place to stay.

Awesome!
Lovely place and owners who were staying in the house next door. Great location, clean and spacious house that worked great for the 9 of us. Pool was fantastic! Kitchen was a bit lacking in cookware and towels but it worked for us and they were very responsive. Only downside was that I got locked in an upstairs bathroom for 20 minutes. Lock got stuck and I had to shout out window to get help. Owner fixed right away but made me nervous about other similar locks in house.

We loved the house and the property. It was perfectly set up for our extended family.
We enjoyed the ocean front and the pool. We especially loved the privacy of the separate rooms and the ability to all be together in the common spaces. The rooftop palapa was gorgeous. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return!

Great house and hospitality
This was a great house, right next to the ocean. We rented the entire house with 9 people. The hosts are very nice and want to help with whatever they can. Can't really say we had any problems. So great just to jump into the pool when it gets to hot and sticky. Master suite has spectacular views. Thank you Jake and team for the hospitality!

Loved our stay.
El Castillo Maya is in a great location on the island close to everything but not right in the middle of town. The property is also situated such that it doesn't feel cramped compared to some of the other properties on island. However, while there are some stores/restaurants/attractions within walking distance, golf cart rental helped make our stay much better (we rented 2). The house was clean and Yoyo, the house manager was very helpful. Grocery store is close with a convenience store very close. The kitchen was provisioned minimally but was more than suitable for us because we didn't do a lot of cooking.

Perfect family rental property !!!
Our stay @ El Castillo Maya, was great !! There were a few bumps in the road upon our arrival , but the housekeeper, property manager and owner were very quick in getting everything taken care of . The house is in a great location and we always felt safe !!! The kids ( and adults ) loved the pool . Our housekeeper, Irma ,helped arrange a snorkeling and fishing trip . They even cooked the fish for us and brought it over to the house that evening !! This was our second time to visit the island and we enjoyed our stay even more .... We can’t wait to go back !!!!!

This house was amazing and loved it!
The location was perfect for us. Being right next to the skatepark was an extra bonus as we had teenagers that brought their boards with them. There are so many cool places to hang out, the roof top bar, the outdoor area with a big table where we played games in the eve, the beach front pool. So much space, would definitely stay here again! The only complaint was we had a few in our party that seemed to wake up with some kind of bug bites. All in all it was a great experience.

Exactly what we wanted
We had a wonderful time at El Castillo Maya. We have stayed on Isla many times but this was our first go at renting a house. The house is in the middle of the island and very close to everything you wanted to on the island. Everything was perfect and we would rent this house again.

Relaxing ocean front property
We had a fantastic time staying at Colonia Salina Chica. It was a perfect fit for our family and friends. The house's location is great and the constant breeze from the ocean made it a very comfortable place to be. The bedrooms are comfortable and the bathrooms are clean and very functional. The pool is beautiful and was well taken care of during our stay. As we rented the entire house we had access to all the wonderful decks/patios and enjoyed it immensely. Irma (the cleaning lady) and all the support staff was wonderful.
We would definitely stay again.
Sincerely,
Marie McGill"

A great place for a family retreat !
This property was a perfect fit for our family get together with clean rooms, comfortable beds, a lovely pool with a beautiful view, privacy when needed and several accommodating spaces to gather. The location was great, outside of the hustle and noise of the downtown but, a pleasant walk or taxi/cart ride to the Playa Norte or La Colonia through the nearby neighborhood with a variety of food choices and convenience stores.
Beyond the property itself, the owners and the management team were wonderful. All very kind, communicative and accommodating from the booking, on site services and even in sorting a few last minute adjustments while we were there.
We look forward to staying here again next time we are on Isla Mujeres!

Lots to like
We rented both homes for a week stay. They are both top notch homes and the ocean front location (though too rough to swim in this time of year) and the pool raise the bar. It’s located mid island between the touristy section to the north & the southern tip. We rented golf carts for most of our duration which was a solid idea and ate lunches & dinners out. Had no bad meals & lots of great ones & didn’t reach $30 a head with alcohol which says a lot about the great value here. See my yelp reviews for restaurant tips. We’d stay here again with couples or our kids. Limited English tv (no cnn!) a plus & sketchy internet though our cell service & data was fine so we remained handheld attached (😢). A super trip.

We had a spectacular time
I traveled with my Sister Circle, a group of 10 ladies and enjoyed this property. Very little complaint. The only thing I could say negative is the reception for Wifi is ridiculously crazy. If that could be corrected I'm quite sure this place would stay full all year round 24/7. We did have a Iguana come into one of the rooms in the curtains a little baby 1 that made us laugh actually because it surprised the ladies that share that Suite. But we are planning on returning, a great place to be. Hoping when we do return we can have both properties because we are planning on coming back with more people. Because I arrange this trip for us it made me proud several of the ladies stated because of this place they don't want to ever do a hotel again. I could not ask for anything better.

Beautiful but needs improvements!
The house itself is really beautiful and is in a great location if you want to have access to both downtown and the south end easily. That being said we had some issues, which may or may not be a big deal to some, but it bothered us since we booked the house for 10 days. First was our laundry situation, I had gotten the impression the house keeper would be more present and available to wash towels and clothes (traveling with twins and 5 teenagers creates laundry), but we quickly figured out that we had to bag up our laundry and pay $20 a bag to get it washed. Seemed excessive and also not very accommodating since the washer/dryer is on the property. I would rather have paid a flat fee to be able to simply wash my own clothes. There were few towels provided and traveling from out of the country you can only pack so much. Second, there were construction guys and ladders and things of that nature in the pool area...not great with toddlers running around and also we didn't appreciate them being there while we're at the pool. The pool itself is a great pool. However, it kept turning green. We messaged the owner and property manager about it the first time and they quickly tried to resolve it, but it turned again...I would have honestly expected more attention to be paid to the pool. We ran out of gas for the cooktop, but another tank was brought over. My father in law fell at the top of the stairs. It is a very dangerous first step right out of the door from the deck and master bedroom and should be reworked somehow. We all agreed it was a problem. All of the bedrooms had air conditioners. Yay. But the living area was HOT! 100% of the time. Definitely needs a larger air conditioner or a second one added. I think the house has potential to be a great rental, but needs to fix a few of these issues. It was not a great property for toddlers due to the railing around the pool and drop off being onto the rocks, but I knew were going to the rocky side. It would be nice to have a safer rail...simply from a mother's perspective. All in all a great trip and we love Isla Mujeres! Been traveling here for years and will continue.

El Castillo Maya... Paradise!
Our stay at El Castillo Maya was wonderful! Thank you, Jake! It was seamless to reserve our stay. You have a beautiful spot on a beautiful island! Perfect location~ close enough to the north end - only a quick golf cart or taxi ride to the action downtown and the beautiful waters of Playa Norte! Honestly, we struggled making that journey, because we were so comfortable and relaxed by the pool! Great location to the "heart" of Isla- those little restaurants that are beyond authentic and delicious! The layout of this house is amazing! Great spaces for connecting and enjoying your group, as well as more intimate spaces to relax and unwind. Thank you to Drew and Irma for taking great care of us (care taking manager and housekeeper)! Tip them for well for their hard work! We have rented many homes and hotels on the island... this surpassed them all! Until next time!
