About this house rental
Not available for weddings, large events or one-night bookings.
This house does have air conditioning to cool off on those hot days.
Because of the tight knit neighborhood, a maximum of six (6) people are allowed at this property at any given time, this includes overnight and daytime guests/visitors.
The Cottage:
Del Mar Cottage is the charming 1920's Air Conditioned cottage by the sea you've been dreaming about. The character of this cottage, from traditional architectural details like crystal door knobs and elegant crown molding with beautiful easy open windows to let the cool sea breeze in, make this get a way a 'must stay'.
The Garden:
Relax on the garden's porch swing while reading and sipping your favorite lemonaid. Later enjoy some stargazing from your luxurious outdoor spa while planning the next day's ferry ride, antiquing or golf game.
The Neighborhood:
Just 15 minutes north of Gig harbor is Del Mar Cottage's tiny neighborhood of South Colby, nestled between Port Orchard, just 5 minutes to the West, or the Southworth ferry dock to Seattle, just 4 minutes the East. This charming cottage seems to have guarded the bay for many, many decades. Make Del Mar Cottage part of your next get away. You'll want to come back every year!
Walks & Dog Lovers: There are several wonderful walks to take your dog on for an adventure. By the way, the house allows a maximum of two dogs, and each dog is a separate pet fee. Del Mar Cottage is one house back from the beach, but there is a quiet, single lane frontage road that is directly on the beach, great for walks and viewing all that the beach has to offer. The frontage road (SE Cornell) is just west of the Del Mar Cottage gate.
Then, just 1/8 of a mile east from the cottage is Harper Pier, overlooking Puget Sound. Continue your walk another 1/8 of a mile to the park just past SE Scatterwood Lane; great for letting the dog run in the fenced little league base ball area.
Across from the park is a natural boat and kayak launch, great for letting the dog play in the water!

I stayed here for the weekend of my wedding, as it was right down the road from the venue. It was more than I expected. Extremely clean and cozy, the hot tub was kept at the perfect temp, jazz playing when I checked in. I think the checkout list is a little excessive, but I would absolutely stay here again.

Perfect cottage as a centralized base. We traveled all around peninsula as well as to Seattle and Canada. Family able to easily fly into Seattle. Property felt private and was well appointed. Many nice touches that made the stay very comfortable.
Kitchen had everything needed
Motion activated nightlights - great touch
Hot tub - a favorite nightly ritual
Car Charger - very handy
Fenced back yard - perfect for our dog
Property Manager (Erik) - extremely responsive and helpful

The cottage is equipped with everything you need. It is 8 minutes from the ferry. The hot tub was a wonderful bonus. We would happily rent it again.

This cottage was just what we needed--even cuter than the pictures and so charming. We arrived to music playing and a bottle of wine and delighted in the mix of modern and vintage furniture (especially the piano!). The hot tub, garden, deck, and yard were all lovely and felt like a classic English country garden. Although it was rainy some of the time, we still enjoyed sitting out and watching the sunset. We were also visited by some deer grazing in the open meadow next door. Our dog had a blast, too. We slept wonderfully and loved relaxing in the sun room bedroom to the front. It was also fun taking walks along the waterfront and it took no more than 15 minutes to drive anywhere else we wanted to explore in Port Orchard or Manchester State Park. The cottage was perfect for our birthday weekend of reading, writing, and relaxing, and we hope to be back!

This property has some quirks (as it should for a 1920s home). It was a great stay with a wonderful view!

The photos online do not do this place justice. It was much better than I expected. Everything was clean and nice and we had a great time staying here.

When we arrived, we opened the door and there was wonderful jazz music playing, heat was on and there was a bottle of wine with glasses all ready to go! It was so inviting. The house was charming and very well equipped (even all of the necessary kitchen tools to fix a Thanksgiving meal)! Everything was there for us and we had a very relaxing time. The jacuzzi was fantastic! What an added plus!

A charming well-appointed cottage. The hot tub was a added bonus. Our only complaint is the shortage of wash clothes -- only found two for a 4-day stay.

Nice, quiet, relaxing getaway with friends. Kitchen had everything we needed to complete meals. The rooms were nice and dark for good sleep.

This is a lovely quiet space. Daily walks to the pier and shoreline included sightings of deer and eagles as well as seabirds and various types of boats. The host was gracious and responsive.

This is a delightful cottage with beautiful water views.
Owner was kind and helpful through planning and check in as well as through the stay by checking in on us even after arrival to offer help/guidance as needed.
Gave four stars for cleanliness due to the nature of this well- loved century old home surrounded by lots of vegetation. Leaf litter is a reality, and was seen around the grounds and on the deck upon arrival. This is not intended to be a flaw, but rather, a review to clarify future guests’ expectations.
This cottage is a vintage home that has been lovingly cared for and is well appointed with many items to make the stay comfortable. Many extras were also available that were a delight to have available.
If your desire is to stay in a modern, sterile residence with sharp clean lines and pristine lawns, this is not the place to stay. However if the description above fits your vision of a place in which to get away, you will find that this is a great place to stay!
Will return!

Amazing little house with lots of amenities and close to some really cute town centers with restaurants and shopping. The house has been beautifully kept and the foliage well groomed. Very well stocked kitchen with some “welcome” drinks in the fridge for us. We used the jacuzzi and the fire pit which were both wonderful. Even saw a bald eagle in a tree while sitting on the back porch on our last day!
The only suggestion I would have is to have more small trash cans in the bedrooms and living room. Only ones were in the bath and kitchen.
Had a great time and will definitely return to this house in the future for vacation.

As advertised, an indirect view of the Puget Sound, a quiet neighborhood, and a comfortable house with a hot tub out back. 14 of my days there were great, 1 not so great. All in all, a very good experience.

My wife and I enjoyed this charming home with all its features. We had a good partial view of the water from the back porch in March. The five minute walk to the shore is well worth it. We were able to walk along a private road and explore the beach.

Combined wife's work trip with a little weekend getaway. Home is well-appointed and cozy. Would like to see the yard in the summer. Fire pit was great!

It was a quaint home. Had everything you needed for a relaxing weekend. Even had a kettle and French press. There were also needed cooking items that you probably would have forgotten like oil, spices and etc. We enjoyed relaxing in bed watching TV. The hot tub was an enjoyable part of our "do nothing" weekend. You are not on the water but have "pick-a-boo" views. I also enjoyed having extra blankets to snuggle on the couch. Many vacation rentals to not have these little touches. The home was out of town but close enough for a quick drive into Port Orchard. It was a very nice and welcoming touch to see the wine and fresh flowers on the dining room table for our anniversary. We enjoyed our stay.
I had only 2 negatives-
Bathroom is small which it is not the owners fault. It's a 1920's home. Things were smaller back then. Just want to mention if it's a concern for future guests.
2nd- it's time for deep spring cleaning & pressure washing. Don't get me wrong. All surfaces were VERY clean. It was one of the cleaner short term rentals homes I have stayed. The linens smelled so fresh and clean.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this little quaint home for your next adventure in Port Orchard/ Gig Harbor Area. I know we would stay again!

Really enjoyed our stay with friends. Nice, clean house, equipped with all our needs.

The photos - which are gorgeous - don’t do it justice. I stayed here with family over Christmas and it was the perfect cozy little place to spend a few days relaxing. Wood-burning fireplace was a great feature. View of the water. The owner was extremely communicative and extremely apologetic about a powe outage that was not at all his fault! Does include a washer and dryer. TVs are more up to date than they appear in the photos.
There is a waterfront road that can be accessed by walking in either direction from the driveway. The road it is on is not the best for pedestrians, you have to walk on the shoulder. It’s not for very long either way to get to the water, but it was something we noted especially with my dog.
All in all, a great stay and we plan to book again!

The inside of the home was very nice and clean. We couldn’t find wash rags for the bathroom, they were still in the dryer. The outdoor patio area was really dirty and many leaves and spider webs. I thought the area could have been sprayed down with the hose. It said it was 10 miles from cruise terminal, but it was much longer than that.
It was very quiet and relaxing tho. No problems with anything. Thank you.

This place was old.. it was cute inside but definitely old. There were spiders EVERYWHERE! 🕷
In the 3 days we were there we killed 5 spiders inside the house and the outside was infested with them. Black widows, orb weavers, wolf spiders. The outside of the property is NOT taken care of very well at all. It was over grown with dense vegetation. Anytime we came in or out of the house we ran because there was an infestation of spiders everywhere including the underneath of the overhangs and easels. We got in the hot tub only once or twice because there was so much shrubbery and spiders surrounding it. We could not walk barefoot anywhere. There was severe overgrowth of weeds everywhere outside.
I will never go back to this property. The owner needs to do a serious overhaul of the landscape and have serious pest/ insect control done. There were some cute quilts inside the home but there literally were spiders IN the quilts. We had to shake out everything we used. The owner I think must have controlled the thermostat because it wouldn't let us warm the place up at all... it was like on some type of timer. , as was the t.v. It would turn off after about 30 minutes of watching anything.
We left all the lights on pretty much every night because we didn't trust the creatures in the dark. Didn't sleep very well. There were long, dark hairs in the bed when I pulled back the covers so we ended up sleeping on top the bed freezing our butts off every night. My sister found some type of insect egg inside the covers of her bed.
This was our very first ever vrbo and we were so excited but I will forever now stay in hotels only.
I don't think the owners are in state but I'm not sure... almost seems like an old property that they have someone come out and "straighten up" there were dust bunnies all over the floors so I'm not sure the cleaners swept very well, if at all. I am happy to say no roaches or bedbugs (that I know of) so that's good ....
If you don't care about spiders hanging from every nook and cranny you just might like it!

The cottage actually felt much bigger than the pictures showed. It was clean and very comfortable. The bathroom was small, but functional. Loved the neighborhood and the views. Wish we could have stayed longer.
