About this house rental
After a tragic loss in the East Troublesome wildfire in 2020, Twin Pines Legacy Lodge has been fully rebuilt from the ground up and we're so excited to share this masterpiece with our guests beginning June 2024! (
Nestled among pines and aspens on the original 1-acre lakefront property bordering Rocky Mountain National Park to our east, and the Arapahoe National Forest to our west, this rare location combines the best Colorado has to offer. Featuring a private dock with boats included in your rental, white-capped mountain views, two private beaches, 6+ bedrooms, 5 full bathrooms, two huge living spaces, and a large outdoor deck with a fire pit and hot tub making this your own private rustic mountain resort! (One caveat--you'll likely be sharing the property with a family of moose between the months of April-November! Our local moose population has doubled since the fire so you'll get the ultra-rare experience of seeing moose wander through the property daily--just feet from the deck! )
Relax on the large deck overlooking Sun Valley Lake and take a deep breath of clean mountain air in this classic Colorado mountain lakefront setting with towering pine, aspen groves, brilliant wildflowers, and soaring white-cap mountain views. Our mountain property offers peaceful seclusion in the beautiful Sun Valley Ranch neighborhood located just within the border of Rocky Mountain National Park. (no park permit is needed to access our house!) You'll experience the raw beauty of Colorado's wilderness while only being 3 miles from downtown Grand Lake Village. Twin Pines Legacy Lodge is one of just a handful of vacation rentals where you can snowmobile and ATV straight to the Arapahoe National Forest trails directly from our driveway. We're an easy 90-minute drive from Denver with well-maintained roads throughout the trip. Ski at the family-friendly resort Granby Ranch only 25 minutes away, or Winter Park Resort, only 45 minutes away.
This gorgeous custom log home was exquisitely created to reflect the authentic log home heritage with 18” full logs, heated wood floors, and many intentionally designed cozy nooks and spaces to relax and absorb the lake and mountain views. The main floor was thoughtfully designed to be universally accessible for our guests with limited mobility and includes large doorways and walkways plusa spacious main-floor primary suite with a roll-in double-head shower, and large sliding doors to a covered deck and hot tub. There is also another queen bedroom and full bathroom on the main level.
The warmth of hand-hewn natural log is everywhere, brightened by the soaring ceilings and a huge wall of windows overlooking the lake and mountains. Although Twin Pines Legacy Lodge is brand new--it's retained its classic old-time log home charm and is comfortable and inviting--tastefully decorated with quality furnishings and bedding, and vintage mountain lodge decor--yet totally family-friendly.
The luxurious kitchen features a 5 burner gas stove, two ovens, two dishwashers, two refrigerators, two sinks, and a wine fridge. Seating for seven around the large reclaimed island, which is open to the dining room with a large farmhouse table for 14+. Additional seating outdoors on the covered deck, and at our round-table game nook in the great room. A large gas grill on the covered deck makes for easy entertaining inside or out.
The spacious great room with a grand stone fireplace and comfortable seating offers plenty of space for families to play games or watch TV, and the separate main-floor office/library offers a cozy nook to curl up and read or work (fast, reliable wifi included). We designed Twin Pines Legacy Lodge to intentionally feature spacious gathering areas along with numerous cozy nooks and conversation spots around the house that make sense for how families gather together.
Twin Pines Legacy Lodge has space to sleep up to 18 guests with 6+ bedrooms (4 rooms with King beds); an additional "secret star room" sleeping nook off one bedroom, plus a loft sleeping area in another bedroom, and a full bed in a curtained sleeping nook in the rec room. With 5 full bathrooms (two ensuites) you'll have plenty of space to rest and freshen up.
The upstairs rec room also features a spacious TV/seating space with an adjacent kids' play area with tons of kids' toys and games, plus a game area with Skeetch Ball (like a shuffleboard), giant Jenga, giant Connect Four, plus
The property rental includes the use of our private dock and 2 private sandy beaches, a canoe, 2 stand-up paddle boards (SUP), a pedal boat, a kayak, fishing poles, life vests, and 4 mountain bikes. (2 kids, 2 adults). On our lakefront park-like property you'll also enjoy 2 fire pits (one wood, other propane), hot tub, tether ball, corn hole, horseshoes, Giant Jenga, outdoor checkers, and more. Walking distance to RMNP and hiking trails, access to Colorado River, 150+ miles of ATV/snowmobile/mountain biking trails, and more--everything you need for the Colorado experience you're dreaming of!
Property is abundant with wildlife-- watch the Moose graze along the pristine mountain lake shoreline--just a few feet away from the deck. Sun Valley Lake, a 22-acre non-motorized mountain lake, is also known as 'Moose Lake' because it's natural habitat where Moose live--and Moose calves are born here each spring. Unlike most other areas of Colorado, our local moose population has been living peacefully amongst the human neighbors of Sun Valley Lake for so many generations that they've become habituated to people and casually stroll around the lake all day long. Bald Eagles, Elk, Deer, Fox, Otter, Beaver, Bear, Osprey, and Hummingbirds are also frequent visitors. From late August through October, you'll hear the beautiful sound of elk bugling every night along with a front- row seat for viewing the Elk in rut season.
The Winding River Resort is within walking distance, and here you can enjoy guided horseback rides into RMNP, pony rides, a petting zoo, Chuckwagon Breakfast, Cowboy Church, pickle ball, disc golf, basketball courts, volleyball courts, and evening activities such as square dancing, cowboy poetry, etc. An 18-hole golf course is 2 miles away, and you can also ride your ATV or snowmobile right from our driveway to 150+ miles of groomed trails. (trailhead located 1/4 mile from the house) The neighborhood outfitter offers ATVs and snowmobiles for rent and guided horseback trail rides through Rocky Mtn Nat'l Park.
The wonderful, family-friendly town of Grand Lake is less than 5 minutes away and offers several full-service marinas for renting pontoon/fishing/water ski boats and jet-skis on any of the 'big lakes' Grand Lake, Shadow Mountain Lake or Lake Granby. There's a wonderful public beach and a huge playground in the center of town--great for families with kids! Wander the downtown 'boardwalk' and explore local art galleries, gift shops, restaurants, live music cafes, ice-cream shops, mini-golf, go-karts, etc. COnnect with one of our local outfitters for a guided fishing trip, white water rafting, and many other adventures. Grand Lake is also known for its fine live theatre productions at the Rocky Mountain Repertory Theater, check out the incredible summertime drama productions of our favorite Broadway shows!
Need help planning your gathering? The owner is a professional event planner/interior designer and is happy to assist you with any details you need to make your family vacation, reunion, wedding, corporate or church retreat the quintessential Colorado experience you've been dreaming of.
NOTE FROM THE OWNER: In full transparency, we want to make sure our guests understand the reality of how Mother Nature operates here in the Colorado Mountains. For more than a decade Twin Pines Lodge was one of the most popular vacation cabins in Grand Lake. In October 2020 the East Troublesome Wildfire impacted the northwest area of Grand Lake indiscriminately burning some properties as it was fueled by thousands of acres of beetle-kill pine trees in the National Forest to our west, and RMNP directly to our East. Sadly our beloved Twin Pines Lodge burned to the ground.
Now, as of June 2024, we celebrate the re-opening of the BRAND NEW Twin Pines Legacy Lodge born from four years of imagining, designing, and building the most spectacular custom mountain log cabin we could have ever dreamed of. Having hosted thousands of guests in the past, we knew exactly what guests wanted in a quintessential Colorado log home for entertaining large family gatherings.
While the fire did alter the landscape in some areas, it has not diminished the natural beauty of our Colorado vista and Twin Pines still offers a magical lakefront setting with more moose visitors than ever before! We were fortunate to retain dozens of our shady pine trees while adding hundreds more Aspens and sunny flowerbeds. In the 4 years since the fire we've seen nature's grand design as it took out the beetle-killed trees and has brought the new growth of Aspens and Lodgepoles, wildflowers galore, and an impressively open vista of Sun Valley Lake, Mount Baldy, the Never Summer Mountain range, and the Rocky Mountains.

We had 8 ladies for a high school reunion. The house was beautiful inside and out. The host was very responsive and took excellent care of us. We could not have ask for a better house. Very well stocked and comfortable. The deck fire pit was our nightly go to where sweet memories were made. This is a must.

Had the kids and grandkids for a great vaca at Twin Pines. Plenty of room for 7 adults and 5 kids to enjoy each other, but not crowd.
The lake was enjoyable with paddle boat, canoe and SUP. The moose came around a couple days and was a joy do see.
Would love to go back in the future.

We had a wonderful time at this beautiful home in Grand Lake. We have a big family, and we all had plenty of room to live, eat, cook, sleep, and play. The home is warm and so beautifully appointed. The kitchen is well stocked, as well as the lake toys, and games inside for the grandchildren. Kami and Tim are so nice and welcoming. You can tell they love their home, and want their guests to thoroughly enjoy their stay. Well, we did! There was also a mamma moose and her baby that came to hang out right off the back deck. The baby even played a little tether ball. I've never been that close to a moose, and it was incredible. We highly recommend this home!

I wish I could give more than 5 stars! We truly enjoyed everything about this house and it's location. Our host, Kami was wonderful and very welcoming.
We were even greeted with a mama moose and her newborn twins the day we arrived!
We have a big family and there was space for all of us and then some. The house is beautifully decorated, well stocked and very clean.
We all had fun on the lake using the paddle boat and paddle boards. The catch and release fishing passes were a hit too!
Our family continues to talk about our time in Grand Lake and all the memories made during our stay.
Zero complaints other than we should have booked a longer stay!

Our large family has stayed at more than a dozen rental properties over the years and Twin Pines stands heads and tails above the rest. The house is extremely well appointed and stocked. The kitchen has 2 of each major appliance and every cooking utensil one could imagine. Host Cami goes above and beyond to ensure the comfort of her guests!
Morning fires in the fireplace and on the deck took the chill off, and evening fires on the deck and the outdoor pit were simply delightful. Moose passing by each morning and evening were icing on the cake.
The hot tub got a lot of use, as did the tetherball and water toys (canoe, paddle boards, and peddle boat) and dock for fishing.
All of this was squeezed between morning hikes and afternoon excursions to Grand Lake Beach and parks.
Wow, it simply does not get any better than this!

We loved having our own lake to go fishing and boating at. Waking up each morning to a mama moose and her baby was quite spectacular. Look forward to going back there.

Fabulous Outdoor Fun
Everything was as promised, and the property is amazing. Nice comfy beds and lounging spaces, but the best is the outdoor space! Right on the water, in pine trees, with lots of games, boats, and water for families to enjoy. We will be back just as soon as we can.

Fantastic Stay!
Our stay at Twin Pines was just about perfect! We held a small family wedding there, and everyone from the little kids to the adults loved the property and the area. The boats, SUPs, and outdoor games kept the kids busy, and the adults enjoyed the deck overlooking the lake, the horseshoes, and sitting on the dock. Kami met us at check-in with delicious gluten free pumpkin bread, and answered any question we had (in person or via text). The property was better than we imagined, and are just thrilled to have found it. I don't think there is anything that we would change about it. Just wish we had more time to enjoy the property and the area. Thank you so much, Kami!

Fantastic Lake-front Property with Lots of Living Space and Outdoor Activities!
A great property for a large family/group with multiple, separate living areas that's right on Sun Valley Lake. A log-cabin style lake house with lots of charm and stocked with everything you could possibly need/want. The outside is also fully equipped with yard games and multiple water toys (canoe, paddle boards, kayak). It's great property for keeping children busy and happy (even those 30 yr old children)! The property is essentially in RMNP and a short walking distance to a trailhead and the CO river. The lake is non-motorized so you don't have the constant drone of motorboats all day. Very serene and peaceful place to come relax if that's your preference. The owner is very responsive and easy to work with. Look forward to coming back some day!

Amazing property
You don't want to miss out on this property. The pictures don't do it justice. Communication with Kami was always quick. When we got to the house, she met us for a quick orientation of the house and she also made us a pan of yummy brownies that smelled delicious when we walking in the house. The house is so beautiful and very clean. Don't worry about bringing spices because there are tons to use. The kitchen is fully equipped with just about anything you might need to prepare a meal. The beds were very comfortable. We spent a lot of time outside. The house is on a beautiful property. The lake was very quiet and we enjoyed watching the moose. They even napped right by the lake. We really enjoyed the used of the paddle boards and canoe. So many lake houses we looked at don't offer use of any boats so this was a huge plus for us. We appreciated all the fishing equipment to use (even though we didn't have any luck catching any) and we really enjoyed the propane fire pit. Since there is a wood fire ban it was nice to still be able to enjoy a fire outside in the beautiful Colorado weather. There is plenty of hiking close by so you don't need to drive far into the park to get in a great hike. There is even a trailhead within walking distance of the house. This house offers so much more than is listed. The only complaint I would have is that we have to leave. You will love this property and won't regret renting it!!!!

Perfect get-away!
The house layout is fantastic for multiple families with basically two seperate living and kitchen area's. We had a family group of in-laws, grandparents, and two families with kids between 3mo's and 5 years old. The house was very clean, stocked with everything you need, and set on a beautiful property! The owner (Kami) was helpful, friendly, and accomodating. Really, we could not have asked for anything more and everyone is already talking about coming back next year!

Beautiful cabin and fun lake for kids
We stayed for 4 nights with a large group of family including 5 young kids. The kids loved playing in the lake! My 6 year old son was in their Dagger kayak all day. My 8 year old daughter loved catching minnows. We enjoyed the Pottery Barn style decor in the cabin and the large deck near the lake. The Kidd loves the bunk beds and all the beds were very comfortable. We sat by the gas fire pit every night and morning. The cabin is large but cozy. We would call the lake more of a pond and most of it is about 2 feet deep. We were bummed to see tons of fish jumping but didn’t catch one. We couldn’t figure out the right bait. There is construction going on around the neighborhood now and we had to wait 20 to 40 minutes to go in and out of the neighborhood but luckily we didn’t have much reason to leave. The cabin has everything you need. The kids painted rocks every day and so did the adults! Kami is very friendly and we enjoyed working with her. She was responsive to texts, she met us there to give us a tour and wanted to make sure we had a great stay. There was only one adult bike and one kid bike but we highly recommend bringing your own if you want to bike. We enjoyed ping pong and the tether ball! We highly recommend staying here.

Twin Pines--Sun Valley
The cabin and amenities were great! Our extended family enjoyed having 2 separate kitchen areas and sleeping areas. We could have coffee and visit quietly without disturbing everyone. The outdoor/indoor games kept everyone occupied and everyone enjoyed getting out on the lake. The host even left a pan of warm brownies for us when we arrived! It was a great place to reconnect with family and everyone had a wonderful time!

Beautiful Getaway
We had an absolute blast at Twin Pines. The property was amazing. We enjoyed being on the water and on a lake. The kids felt comfortable to canoe and try out paddle boarding! The kids also enjoyed painting rocks and playing all the yard games!
The cabin itself was clean and cozy. Everything was in great condition! There was more than enough room for everyone. It is a great spot to unplug and relax for a few days

Family Christmas adventure!
This is a great property in a wonderful location. Our entire family, from 12 years to 68 years, enjoyed the time we spent in Grand Lake. Kami was great with communication and prepared the home so we would have a wonderful Christmas with our family. Thanks Kami!

We could not have asked for a better place to stay
The cabin was warm, rustic and cozy, yet offered all the amenities of a modern home. We found it charming that little hand painted helpful notes were scattered around the cabin to help us with our stay. Oh, and the wildlife was amazing. A pair of young moose walked just 20ft away from the cabin while we were enjoying our morning coffee.
Kami was a super host. She was easy to reach and quick to respond. The cleaning staff left warm brownies for us (which were quickly devoured) when we arrive.
For over two decades, my group of friends have been visiting the Colorado mountains every winter to celebrate the New Years and we’ve all decided that Twin Pines was the best place we’ve ever stayed at.

Outstanding!!!
What an amazing house! It really elevated our family vacation. We had 14 people from Oklahoma, New York and Michigan and this house was perfect! The house was stocked with everything you could think of in the kitchen/bathroom/living space. Plenty of blankets and the wood fires are so cozy. I can’t say enough good things about this place! Would recommend to anyone

Memorial Gathering
Kami was fantastic to work with. We had a large group gathering in the Grand Lake area to celebrate the life of my mother who had recently passed away. We had family travel from other states and England for this event.
I knew that we would need a large base of operations and was particularly drawn to this property because of the ability to sleep 20 (we had 16, the rest stayed off-site) and the house having two kitchens. We gathered for meals and games at the house and ventured out each day.
My disappointment in the property, and the only reason I don't give 5 star ratings across the board, was due to the fact that the main kitchen was dark and difficult to use at night (above-stove lights burned out); we used a camping lantern to help. We had prepared wonderful food for our gathering and the oven wasn't working properly, was barely warm unless we turned it to 475 degrees. Similar issues limited the usefulness of the stove since 2:4 knobs were either stripped or broken and we had to keep juggling the intact knobs to work all the burners properly. Again, all this was tricky because this area of the kitchen was virtually pitch black unless we had the camp light or wore a headlamp. To help with warming food, we used one of the advertised crockpots and discovered it only got hot on the outside.
I suspect a lot of visitors don't really use all the items provided with this house and maybe hadn't let the owner know that some things weren't up to snuff. There are lots of great water toys, bikes, etc. We had a great time and appreciated all that was included. It was just frustrating that some really important basic equipment didn't work well.

Wonderful Cabin!
The cabin was the perfect gathering place for our large group of friends attending a wedding in Grand Lake. Kami was so easy to work with and very responsive and accommodating. We had so much fun grilling on the deck, drinking coffee on the dock and the kids painted rocks and played in the lake!

Terrific comfortable, connected lodge-like, log cabins in idyllic lake setting..
Fantastically friendly, accommodating owners who meet you upon check/in to tour property with you. Log cabin family comfortable lodge is in a one of kind location that is extraordinarily furnished with everything to immediately start living the good life in a spacious but cozy feeling setting. So many amenities provided by the trusting owners who treat you like visiting family. Location had been grandfathered in RMNP, yet within driving distance of so many attraction destinations. Great multiple family gathering spot for all ages. Truly a perfect VBRO in the mountains for families.

Family Vacation
We had 14 people, grandparents + 3 families.
The location of the house was excellent. Very close to the entrance to the park for quick trips for various hikes.
The cousins had tons of fun fishing, playing volleyball, and on the paddle boat. The adults enjoyed the deck and watching everyone having fun.
The boys shared the bunk room, grandparents the "master", the girls enjoyed the loft.
You get what you pay for and more with this house. I would recommend it to anyone.

Best place we have ever stayed!
The owners thought of absolutely everything! The property is comfortable, spacious, SO well stocked with everything you could ever need and there is so much to do! Paddle board, kayak, canoes, beach volleyball, horseshoes and multiple fire pits and decks. Not to mention the moose visitors everyday and easy in and out of Rocky Mountain National Park. We rented ATVs, rode horses, hiked and the kids navigated the small, private lake on all the toys. We had an amazing stay and didn’t want to leave. We can’t wait to get back here!
