About this cottage rental
Rest, relax & rejuvenate. Welcome to the Garden Cottage!
Whether you are celebrating a special occasion, choose a cozy winter stay, a summer vacation, or a romantic honeymoon, the Garden Cottage is the perfect choice! It is just like staying in your own private and elegant luxury suite! The Cottage has a stone fireplace stocked with ample firewood and cozy amenities to make a memorable visit.
Enjoy the ambiance of the historic Whiteface Club and Resort, including a private beach, lakeside dining, marina, 18-hole championship golf course, and clay tennis courts. The area also offers trekking and cross-country ski trails...all within walking distance.
Garden Cottage was originally an open-air 'smoking gazebo' created for the original Whiteface Inn. It is said that gentlemen would retire here to enjoy a brandy and a cigar after their meal at the Inn. Over time, additions were added to create a bedroom, bathroom, dining room and kitchen. The original stone hearth, stone floors, and living room with its cathedral beam ceiling remain.
Returning guests often mention how rustic and authentic it is, yet fully equipped with modern amenities.
The bedroom was designed to feel like sleeping out in the woods with an amazing real birch tree headboard, however, no sleeping bag needed here, as our fluffy feather bed compares to boutique hotel comfort.
Our attention was driven on finding rare pieces of furniture and antiques from the surrounding region, like our latest addition, which is a custom made dining table from master craftsman Steve Bowers. As you sit on the Westport chairs in the privacy of the large perennial garden, enjoy the smell of the surrounding woods and calming sound of the loons in the distance.
Enjoy the reawakening of the Adirondacks in the spring when the garden’ flowers and berries are in bloom and the last of the ice is melting on the lake.
During the summer, steps away from the front door, take a dip in the purest water of Lake Placid after a wonderful hike or boat ride.
In the fall, you can enjoy the splendor of a nature walk in the beauty of the foliage.
The winter season offers virgin snow for your first tracks on cross-country skis and snowshoes. You can also sit by the fire and enjoy a nice glass of wine.
The Cottage is only a few minutes’ drive to the lovely town of Lake Placid. It is a historic Olympic village that offers lots of shopping, dining options, gourmet shops and antique galleries on Main Street.
Please take advantage of all you find here. We hope the cottage becomes your home during your stay in Lake Placid and that you find it a pleasant retreat to return to, season after season.

Beautiful, cozy cottage with well-stocked kitchen, comfortable amenities, and charming Adirondack theme. Perfect for a peaceful getaway close to Lake Placid. Highly recommended!

The Lake Placid cottage/cabin exceeded our expectations. It was neat and clean, privately set, delightfully furnished, had a well stocked lardier with lots of treats and necessities. The heater was excellent, the washer dryer seemed brand new, every detail was thought out down to the heated toilet seat! We needed to contact the manager once and she responded immediately. Lastly, the location couldn’t have been better. I would highly recommend this Lake Placid VRBO.

My husband and I visit Lake Placid annually, and what a treat to have discovered this quintessential Adirondack style cabin! The photos do not lie—this beautifully decorated cabin is in excellent condition; the amenities are generous; and this stay was comparable to previous stays at lodges. While this was a short stay over a long weekend, we look forward to returning in the future. Thank you for sharing your home, Ben and Mary!

This may be our 10th stay at the stunning Garden Cottage. Cozy, beautiful cottage and surroundings, quiet, peaceful , perfect amenities and appliances, clost to vilkage, and the epitome of relaxation.
The owners Mary and Ben are simply wonderful in every eay. They feel like family.

This is a beautiful cottage very well appointed and filled with amenities. I had the impression it was on Lake Placid which it is not. The view of the lake is also obscured There is a walking path down to lake but no beach and you have the feeling you are intruding upon other private property.

We started with the road down to the cottage being completely washed out with massive holes. The road was rock and sand. Upon finding our cottage we had about a 200 yard trek through a trail dragging our luggage and everything we had brought. My husband and I are over 70 years old. This is a 100 year old cement building that had the siding falling off, outside furniture in disrepair and we got to enjoy a view of the cottage next door with their outdated refrigerator being stored on their porch. A lot of disrepair with front door, entry way, and door handle was about to fall off. Upon entering there was a clear odor smell from the fireplace that had been there for a long time. The shower door was installed backwards with pieces of the shower floor missing. It said the cottage was air-conditioned, we had a small window air-conditioner in our bedroom, we never found the tv at all until the day we left. I took pictures and wish I could send them to you. When you pay almost $4,000 for a week at a cottage that is advertised to be part of the Whiteface Club, you do not expect this type of product. We arrived on Saturday and conditions were so bad that we left on Tuesday. We have since learned that the owners live in France so perhaps they are not aware of what it actually looks like. I normally have good luck with VRBO; however, this time around, not so good. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to share our experience.

A beautiful little cottage located very conveniently near Lake Placid and other Adirondack towns - very easy to get into Lake Placid and Saranac Lake. Very quickly felt at home in the cottage, it was very comfortable with plenty of blankets and pillows and pillows and pillows (there were a lot of them). Kitchen was very well- stocked and maintained, though there were a few pots and pans that could have been cleaned better. Appreciated the amenities, including the fireplace, towel warmer, and the toilet seat warmer (that one took me a bit by surprise!). Bathroom was a little tight; knocked my elbow on the toilet roll and in the shower a couple times so broader-shouldered guests may have a little more trouble.
I had a great time bird watching; the feeders right outside the windows made it easy to watch. The property has great views and is nicely insulated from the other cabins around the property. The short walk down to the lake was nice, and I wish we'd had more time to explore to find the walking trails.
I'd highly recommend this cottage. It was a wonderful spot, well maintained, and very relaxing for the two of us. Beverly was great and very responsive when we had questions; I really appreciated knowing how to get in touch. If you're looking for a getaway, a place to read or watch the birds, or have a relaxing home-base for ADK mountain adventures, check this place out!

My husband and I, and our dog, just visited for a week of hiking and skiing at nearby Whiteface. We fell in love with this cottage, it felt like staying in something out of a storybook. Convenient location and comfortable amenities, we cooked most of our meals in the cottage (kitchen is well equipped and there’s a grocery store five minutes away), and took advantage of the lovely fireplace. Hoping to visit again this summer!

What a magical place to spend a cozy winter week. The cabin is delightful with tons of Adirondack charm. It had everything we needed to relax and enjoy each other and the area. Watching the birds at breakfast and enjoying the fireplace at night makes you realize the value of quiet and beauty in our complicated world.
Thank you for an amazing week and we will definitely be back! 🔥❤️❄️

This was our second stay at Garden Cottage, if you are a fan of Adirondack history and design you would love this place. I rent many vacation properties and this is probably the best equipped one I’ve stayed at. Charming and romantic and dog friendly! Glenn

A wonderful cabin with so much charm. We had a very rainy couple of days but the cabin was so cozy and comfortable we didn't care being in the cabin. Our stay was magical.

My husband, 16-year-old daughter, and two dogs visited Lake Placid Labor Day weekend. We've been to Lake Placid many times, but this was our first stay at the Garden Cottage or Whiteface Club Resort. We absolutely loved the cottage and the location. The cottage was even better than the photos. Charming, beautifully furnished, and cozy. We hope to return in cooler weather so we can use the fireplace! There was so much to do at The Whiteface Club Resort, the grounds were beautiful, and the staff very friendly.

My husband and I love coming to Lake Placid. We come at least twice a year and this was our first time staying at the Garden Cottage. What an awesome little spot. Close to everything we love. We will definitely be back to the cottage in the future! 100 percent would recommend

This cottage is so private and feels tucked in the middle of the woods but is so close to drinks, dinner and hiking trails. It is just as cute in person as it is in the photos. It feels rustic and charming but has all the things. We had the best week at the Garden Cottage

This was our third year staying at the Garden Cottage. It was wonderful, as always.

Cottage and grounds were lovely but the large picture windows looking out to the gardens were dirty and took away from the view. Gardens needed some TLC as well.

Way overdue review. We simply love this spot. Perfect for my wife and I and fold out couch fine for my 12 year old daughter. Cottage is perfect mix of convenient and charming. Great location with lake access a 2 minute walk down hill. 5 minute drive to shops. Really easy communication with hosts, rep and cleaners. Plan to stay here again in coming years.

We had an awesome time staying at the Garden Cottage! Cozy, rustic home. My fiancée, dog, and I enjoyed hanging by the fire and watching the beautiful snow fall outside. The area is amazing too. Definitely recommend this cottage!

My husband, son and I stayed here for wonderful week. We spent most of our days skiing, and the Garden Cottage was the ideal space to come home to relax, eat, play games and read by the fireplace. We built a snowman in our little yard and made time for Nordic skiing nearby.

We had a great two night stay for our Christmas gift between my husband and I. Beautiful snowfall made the experience even more magical. Snow was plowed multiple times for us and there was great communication with the property manager of the upcoming storm

Wow! This was one of the coolest places we have stayed. Very rustic, romantic and cozy. Loved the fireplace and attention to detail. Has all you need and more. Quiet and just a few minutes to village. Very Clean. Got a call to say we could check in early and stay late which is rare. And some food and drink recommendations (which were great). We will definitely be back. Thanks for a great stay!

A beautiful, cozy cabin. Private and quiet location. Nice to have a wood burning fireplace, tastefully updated, with the exception of the living room furniture. Time to update.

The Garden Cottage was the perfect cozy Adirondack getaway we were looking for. The well-furnished cottage with so many special touches quickly felt like home. Curling up with a good book, cup of coffee and a crackling fire in the stone fireplace, with soft music playing and birds at the feeders was pure bliss. Beautiful cottage in a scenic location, great for a romantic/relaxing escape.

We have enjoyed the charm of this cottage each September for 2 years. It rained every day this trip, but the coziness of the cottage erased any disappointment.
They also supply convenient staples like coffee, tea and olive oil.

We enjoyed our stay at the garden cottage so much! The cottage was beautifully decorated, creating such a warm atmosphere. We appreciated having nice glassware and plates to have our meals on. It’s just the kind of things that we would have in our own home. For those coming for the first time, you will see that the bedroom is the only room that has air-conditioning. The main living/dining room does not. Everything you need is in this cozy cottage and it was a plus to have a washer and dryer.

My spouse and I stayed at this property for a week-long and I can honestly stay this is the best VRBO property we have stayed at yet! The Garden Cottage is a perfect location to get away from it all and the property is clean, cozy, and comfortable. We had such a wonderful time we have already booked our trip back again for next year!

We enjoyed everything about the Garden Cottage from the ADK theme interior to the outstanding location in the Lake Placid area.
Highly recommend this property anytime of the year.

We've been to the cottage many times and always manage to find new enjoyments and experiences! We used this trip mainly for hiking, and the cottage is perfectly located within quick reach (some by walking and some by <10min drive) of many trailheads. We also found the hiking books at the cottage useful. And of course the actual cottage itself and the garden were as wonderful as always, and the owners and manager were hospitable and attentive. We'd love to come back!

Second time was a charm
My wife, dogs (2 Boston Terriers) and I just returned from our second visit to the Garden Cottage for a six night stay. The location, access to the private beach club and restaurant and the overall privacy and quietness of the area lend to a fantastic vacation. The property has all the amenity needs, comfy bed, well stocked kitchen appliances and utensils, washer and dryer, towels etc. to make the visit very relaxing. The proximity to Mirror Lake and town is close by - 1.5 miles that you can go when you want but avoid the crowds and stay at home too. Overall another great visit to Lake Placid.
