Arrival was good. Gated community confirm hours manned before arrival. Audrey met us at the gate in less that 5 minutes.
If you plan on cooking you will need to use the BBQ grill or microwave. No other cooking options. We improvised and made it work. Very nice breakfast served daily.
Mattress firmness is a personal choice. I found it soft, could have been more comfortable.
Would return again except for the sleeping.
Extremely clean and well furnished.

Audrey was an amazing host and the property was gorgeous. She lives onsite in and brought delicious breakfast every morning, but we still had our privacy and got to enjoy the stunning view. It cannot be understated how gorgeous it is sitting on the patio or in the pool overlooking the ocean. I was worried it would be too remote being so far from Kona but there are several great beaches (and Audrey had plenty of beach gear for us), delicious poke (at kawaihae marketplace), and only 20 minutes to Waimea. We had an amazing honeymoon on the big island and hope to come back to stay here again!
Note the unit doesn’t have a stove top or kitchen sink, but does have a full-size fridge and microwave.

I have never seen a view quite like this. The rolling hills around the property and the 180 degree view of the ocean was like nothing we've experienced. The best part of this property is Audrey. She is the most gracious host we've ever had. Her island breakfasts featuring home-grown mango are perfect. While there, we had a bit of rental car trouble. Audrey went above and beyond to help bail us out of this situation. She's wonderful.

Wonderful host Audrey cooked amazing breakfast, different every day. Fabulous view from the bed of whole Kohala coast. Super clean, comfortable and convenient. Watching the Ocean from the veranda is magical.

Our time @ Audrey and Jerry’s was absolutely wonderful. Easy access to everywhere we wanted to go including a quiet little beach at Spencer Park. Highly recommend to all. Breakfast was an added delight.

We had a quick three day getaway to the big island. This place was truly amazing. It is a way from the crowds and the resorts, and is quiet and clean. Our host Took good care of us and made us great breakfast. We had fun exploring the northern end of the island and watching the whales from the patio. Definitely will go back.

Makai Hale was the perfect place for sun, relaxation, whale watching and that feeling of ahhhh. The accommodations were extremely comfortable and private. And besides all that, we were treated with a variety of Audrey's delicious breakfasts. We hope to be able to return here soon.

Audrey and Jerry are consummate hosts and Makai Hale is absolutely fantabulous! Staying here is tantamount to having one's own private resort! The setting is breathtaking. Wonderful bedding, linens and towels, scrumptious breakfasts. Great assortment of beach equipment. Pristine swimming pool and hot tub. Spectacular sunrises, sunsets, star gazing, and whale watching. Great location in North Kohala. This was our second stay with Audrey and Jerry and we hope our future holds many more stays at Makai Hale!

This property is really beautiful and Audrey is a wonderful host! While it’s a bit of a drive ( minimum of 20-30 minutes) to the small towns, beaches and points of interest, that’s going to be the reality if you’re staying anywhere on the island other than at a resort.
The accommodations are comfortable and very well equipped. It was only me and my partner staying there so the other bedroom was unoccupied. The view from the small porch outside the room (as well as from inside if the blinds are open) was spectacular. Completely unobstructed, you look out on the ocean and the slopes of the volcano. The pool on the property is very comfortable and provided great relief from the warm temps each day. When venturing out to the beaches, there are plenty of beach chairs, coolers, beach bags and towels so you don’t have to worry about bringing your own.
The breakfast provided each morning was terrific. Audrey made a different item each day (pancakes, omelets, breakfast sandwiches, for example) always accompanied by a nice variety of fresh fruits.
Audrey was very respectful of our privacy. She would wait to bring out breakfast until we were sitting on the porch in the morning and then would collect the dirty dishes from the small kitchenette area located outside the rooms while we were away for the day.
If you’re looking for a quiet, private and beautiful place to stay, this is it!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Makai Hale due in large part to our hostess Audrey. Audrey was a wonderful and gracious host. This is a true B&B as Audrey made the most delicious breakfasts for us each morning. Even when the power went out overnight in our area, Audrey had a hot breakfast ready for us in the morning.
The unobstructed view from the house is amazing. The comfortable lounge chairs allowed us to enjoy the sunset each evening and stargazing at night. The guest suite was very comfortable and had recently been updated. The property was very private and peaceful.
We enjoyed our stay at Makai Hale and will definitely stay again when we return to the Big Island.

Every once in awhile you stumble onto a place that's so special and amazing that your first inclination is to keep it a secret so that it's not overrun. But in this case after you meet the lovely owners you want nothing other than for them to have continued prosperity and success.
What else can be said that hasn't already been described in their numerous 5 star reviews? A stunning view that's surreal. A private and pristine pool and hot tub. An immaculately clean room and updated bathroom. Every day a different and always delicious breakfast was brought over to the patio by our host Audrey who could not been nicer. On our last day we had to leave at,4:15am to catch an early flight and Audrey brought us breakfast sandwiches to eat on the way to the airport. As the kids say today, that's next level.
Throughout our stay our privacy was always respected and we immediately felt like we were staying with a friend or family member. One night after we returned from dinner we ran into Audrey and sat down outside to chat and just enjoy the evening. The location is minutes away from Waimea, Hawi, and the nicest beaches in the state. There's a great assortment of beach gear that we utilized during our stay. Are there any negatives? Well, the kitchen is very basic and not set up for making dinners, but you know that going in. I've stayed at quite a few VRBOs and B&Bs thru the years and this one's at the top of the list. It's pretty safe to say that we'll be back. Highly recommended!

We had thorough communication with our host to begin our trip. As the week progressed we got pretty disappointed in our accommodations. There were employees at the property working almost everyday we were there. Our host while sweet, had entered the property at will several times throughout the day. We had explicitly told her that we were prepping for our wedding on Wednesday and felt like we had no privacy. There were employees working on her garden area and other misc. spots outside including right outside of my husbands room when getting ready. The lack of privacy continued including a time when she entered the house while I was in the shower and my husband was relaxing in the bedroom. This made him very upset. We did not like how when we would try to use the hot tub/pool in private late at night the blinds to her doors and window were all open and you could hear the TV of the host separate house. Overall the place has a beautiful view of the ocean and shore but we felt a huge lack of privacy for the price we paid to stay at this property. It was not what we had hoped it would have been. Seems to be family friendly under different circumstances but we would not come back.

This was our second time staying at Audrey’s BnB, and we hope to be able to return again (and again and again)! We absolutely love the location and the privacy. Audrey is an amazing hostess and a genuinely very sweet lady. Thanks again Audrey for opening your home to us!!

We LOVED our stay here. The host is super sweet and accommodating, the view is amazing, and our breakfasts were delicious. I would highly recommend staying here while visiting the northern beaches.

Now THIS is what VRBOs were meant to be!
The property is even better than it looks like and if it seems to good to be true in the pictures just wait until you try Audreys amazing breakfasts while you gaze out over nearly the entire western side of the Big Island (and Maui!).
So many great places to explore nearby. The Kohala coast was our favorite part of the island. Highly recommend taking a day trip up to the Pololu valley and checking out the amazing towns with great shops and cafes youll pass through. Live music at the Blue Dragon was great and a unique place to go. Mahukona beach park has the best snorkeling spot we found out of many spots we went to and its just a quick drive north. Spencer beach park was our closest sandy beach and probably our favorite overall because it was just so laid back (even had one afternoon with live music going!) And theres even a national park with arguably hawaii's most important historical place there. All of this is located just a short drive from where we stayed.
Couldnt say enough good things about this stay and already recommended it to multiple friends and family who want to visit the big island.

I'm not sure I can top all the other reviews, but I totally agree with them. This is a 5-star property and a 5-star experience! Everything was just wonderful! Our favorite parts were whale watching every morning (bring your binoculars!), the hot tub, and Audrey's wonderful breakfasts! The location was perfect to beaches, sights, and amenities. (We recommend eating at the Seafood Bar and Grill which is just five minutes away.) Thank you to Audrey for a wonderful stay! We would definitely stay there again!

We spent 5 nights and had another couple in the adjacent bedroom. Everything is as pictured and the hosts and ohana were wonderful. Audrey provides a fantastic breakfast with daily variations. Don't plan on cooking as the "butler kitchen" has a full size refrigerator and microwave and toaster. There is not stove or kitchen sink as Jerry and Audrey do the dish cleaning for you. A bathroom vanity is adjacent to the kitchen for water needs. The pool is unheated and that's just fine even for the last week of the year. The spa tub is for 2 or 3 persons.

Our second stay for our 10th anniversary and it couldn’t have been better. This property is hard to beat. Extremely clean, GORGEOUS views, sparkling pool and deliciously prepared breakfast daily. Mahalo Audrey. We hope to see you again!

We enjoyed our stay very much. Audrey was so welcoming yet very respectful of our privacy. The location great, pool just right and the view stellar. We already miss Audrey's breakfasts. She is an outstanding cook!
Thank you for everything! We hope to return someday.

Our second week in Hawaii was spent at Audrey’s beautifully cared for B and B in Kohala Ranch five minutes above Kawaihae Harbor. She made sure we had everything we needed: spa operation instruction, kitchen basics, towels and beach gear. Audrey is an amazing cook. Every morning she brought over fruit and wonderful entrées, preparing a GF alternative for me every morning along with my husband's plate. We lingered over our meals on our west facing patio while enjoying the birds. The pool and spa are sparkling clean and refreshing and the view is expansive from Maui over your shoulder to Waikoloa beach area down the coast. After enjoying sunsets on the patio, we were treated to a night sky filled with stars and the milky way. It is so quiet and peaceful. We couldn’t have imagined a nicer stay.
Don’t let figuring out where you are going to eat dinner be the reason you don’t pick Audrey’s B and B. There are a few places down by the harbor which we didn’t have a chance to try. But, we were only 15 to 25 minutes from some really good food and entertainment. This is where we ended up:
Hawi-Bamboo Restaurant has great fish
Blue Dragon- Th, Fri, Sat Dinner and a show
Racha Thai in Waimea-food court but good Thai food
Pueo’s-Italian up in Waikoloa Village
Waikoloa -Swankier choices included Roy’s in Kings Market Place and the Kamuela Provision Co. at the Hilton. The Queens Market has a gourmet grocery with a ton of choices if you want to picnic on your porch.
You are close to some of the Big Island’s best beaches. Because of my mobility issues we spent everyday at Spencer’s Beach Park. It is a great beach with gentle surf, shade and full bath/shower facilities. You are really close to Beach 69, a delightful beach in Puako area, and to the sweeping white sands of Hupuna and Mauna Kea Beaches.
Audrey’s is also a great spot to use as home base if you are doing anything on the Hamakua Coast or up in the Cowboys country. Blue Hawaiian Helicopters are about 20 minutes south and Star Tours to top of Mauna Kea leave from Queen’s market area.
Thank you Audrey for a terrific week in paradise.

The hospitality of Audrey coupled with the beautiful views really made our stay special. The room was nice and the pool was refreshing. If we make it back to the Big island again, we will be sure to see if this home away from home is available!
Thank you Audrey.

Greeted with Aloha, you will find a beautiful and impeccable property in a very safe and peaceful setting. You enter into a gorgeous and quiet gated community and overlook an incredible 180-degree ocean view. Glorious stars fill the night sky in this spacious and rural area. The owners are warm and welcoming and live nearby on the property. Audrey considers any dietary needs and provides a fantastic breakfast delivered right to your front porch for enjoyment. A beautiful stay!

We stayed for 3 days and wish we had stayed there for our entire trip to the Big Island. The view, pool, hot tub, room, and view of the starts were excellent. Audrey was so welcoming, helpful, and made us a great breakfast each morning which included several tropical fruits (she had to tell us what some were). We were so glad we could borrow items (noodles, boogie boards, cooler, beach bag, snorkle/fins) for our beach excursions. Could not ask for more. Highly recommend to all.

Words cannot do Audrey’s place justice. The view of the ocean and THREE volcanoes is just something I never thought I’d be able to see. We had everything we needed, including beach items, breakfast bars and cereals, milk, juice, and coffee. And then, there’s Audrey’s breakfasts!!! Totally amazing. The fruit plate each day was just spectacular. We got so excited each morning to wake up and see what Audrey had prepared. Again, I cannot say enough great things about Audrey’s place. We dream of returning!

What a magical place to stay! The neighbors are friendly, and it felt so safe that we didn’t even feel the need to secure our belongings when we left! The VIEWS!!!! (Check out the stars late at night it’s amazing!) Everything exceeded our expectations from the food prepared for us to watching the sunset at the pool. But the most touching part of our stay was the loving kindness from Audrey and Jerry! They truly are special people and I hope to be able to meet again! Mahalo and thank you from Ohio/Michigan! Ps) Alan can’t wait to start beekeeping! ;) bye for now -Parish & Family.

Kohala Coast R&R
We were blown away with the view and so excited to see that this place was available for the time we were staying on the kohala coast.
They were such wonderful hosts and so accommodating. We had a very early morning to go diving during our stay and not only did Audrey still make us a breakfast, but she went above and beyond with a packed lunch (and her homemade bread)!!
If this place is available, book it. You will not be disappointed!

A place like no other
We stayed five nights at the rental. Today is our last day. This place is magical. The panoramic view of the ocean, The impeccable cleanliness of the house, the hospitality of the hosts, everything is just pure perfection. Audrey makes the best breakfasts on the island! She even changes the menus every day and presents the breakfast like five star restaurants. My husband said a beautiful day starts with Audrey’s breakfast😍 we didn’t get to meet Jerry but he came in each day to pick up the dirty dishes, painstakingly not to bother us. They make us feel totally at home. I have asked all my friends to come. You just have to come to this place to see it for yourself! Mahalo Audrey and Jerry!

A delightful, relaxed stay
Really could not have asked for more. Audrey’s studio had the best of everything one wants in a VRBO stay. Quiet location, scenic, picturesque, comfortable accommodations, all the necessary amenities, outstanding hostess. Really wanted to explore this part of the Big Island, and what better place to pick as a home base. Centrally located on the Kohala coast, the studio was top notch, and will be included in all our future visits to Hawaii. Super time.

Sunsets, Whales and a perfect spot and host
We gravitate to water and this spot was more than amazing. Audrey was a wonderful host and fun to talk with. We hardly wanted to leave the place during the day. We watched whales galore in the mornings while enjoying fabulous breakfasts. Whales all day long in February…beautiful sunsets and amazing stars. I hate to tell you that this place is a must, because we want to be able to book it in the future!,
