Picture do not do this house justice. Gorgeous property. Housekeeper and ground person very helpful and friendly. Quiet neighbourhood. Perfectly located just outside the core, but within walking distance. Security in and out was TIGHT! Felt very safe.
Literally the only downside would be no area poolside for a lounge chair. Would definitely recommend and stay again!

Wonderful place to spend Christmas holidays
The house is a Spanish colonial one story, built in the thirties, in an elegant, well maintained, secure residential compound. It has three double bedrooms, two baths, three living rooms, one outside and one with a fireplace, two dining rooms, kitchen, courtyard/patio with luxuriant planting, and several assorted other spaces. There is a decent size pool in the back, also with wonderful plantings, fit for lap swimming, but tends to be on the cool side temperature wise.
The house is nicely and fully furnished, and includes amenities like good thick towels, fresh flowers, bottled water, etc.
Marta, the housekeeper, is at the house five days a week. She straightens up, will do some laundry and will make meals (reserve in advance, extra cost). She is very cheerful and helpful but speaks no English. There is also a gardener who keeps the outside looking beautiful. A small hotel around the corner will arrange for a driver for excursions.
It is helpful if someone in your party speaks some Spanish. Many taxi drivers, restaurant people, etc. do not.
The owner is American and lives in Virginia. She will help arrange pick-up at the airport and make restaurant suggestions. She is responsive about email messages.
The house is a on the edge of the center of Antigua and it is easy to walk almost anywhere in town. It is not recommended that travelers walk the streets at night. Any restaurant will call a cab.
Antigua is a very picturesque town surrounded by mountains and active volcanoes (it is also very touristy). It is great fun to watch the locals in their bright colors and eat the interesting food. It is, however, noisy and filled with pollution from buses and trucks. What a delight to go back to our house after a day of touring, where is was very quiet and peaceful

A wonderful home--walking distance to downtown Antigua
Elizabeth, the owner, could not have been more helpful with information and tips on the run up to our stay. The house is a home, more graceful and elegant than even the photos show. Marta, the housekeeper, was a friendly, efficient and helpful delight. The house and the small Casita are ideal for two families with kids. The gated neighborhood is safe and lovely and within easy walking distance of downtown Antigua and all the attractions. We hope to return!

Fabulous 4-Day Stay in Antigua
We recently stayed at this great property in Antigua, Guatemala. We were traveling with our whole family - Mom, Dad and three children in their late teens and early 20s. The home was a great family respite with it's very comfortable lounging areas for relaxing and having fun. We also rented the extra house for extended family members. They loved that small and very complete cottage area. During our stay, we also enjoyed the heated pool. We basked in the sunshine surrounded by unbelievably lavish flowers in the garden. We love that part of the home.
The maid in the house was very, very nice and helped with everything. She cooked us a great Guatemalan meal that we all thoroughly enjoyed - Pepian. All in all, I highly recommend this property. It's safe, secure and well worth the price.

Even better than the pictures/ Paradise Oasis
My sister and I came with our families for a wedding and stayed at El Suspiro. This place is ridiculously beautiful. Neither my words nor the pictures would do describing its beauty justice. It is close to main town, but in a safe and secluded gated area, which made me feel so secure with our 4 little girls (ages 2,3, 6 and 8) who were with us. Guatemala is amazing and there is so much to do close to this property. On days when the kids were fussy, we would simply stay put and enjoy the incredible gardens or swim in the pool.
The owner was almost like a secondary trip planner for us - she raised her kids there and goes above and beyond with making sure you have any information you need. She even arranged transportation for us - we were spoiled. The housekeeper Marta is perhaps the best perk of the house. She is there often and is willing to help in any way - including cooking delicious food for a small fee. We don't speak any spanish, but we figured out how to communicate with her and she helped us get around.
You won't find a better deal for your money. Our extended family stayed at some of the nicest resorts in antigua, and this place blew them all away. If you are considering, just book it and you can thank yourself later :)

Home away from home
Our family of six had a magical two-week sojourn at El Suspiro - this beautifully appointed and well-kept villa had everything we needed and more! Upon arrival, its central courtyard and rose petal-filled fountain took our breath away. The rooms are all spacious, the kitchen is well equipped and the gardens are enchanting. The outdoor sitting room quickly became a family favorite, as did the vaulted-ceiling breakfast room. Within a 15-20 minute walk from the central plaza, the house is located in a safe, gated community - away from all noise, yet close enough to walk everywhere. Although the photos accurately represent the house, they do not convey the sense of peace and serenity that we felt while there. During the first week, we took day trips to Tikal, Lake Atitlán, Guatemala City, Chichicastenango and Pacaya Volcano. During the second week, Holy Week, we visited a coffee plantation and a textile cooperative as well as took part in many of the celebrations and processions in and around Antigua. Having walked many hours in the sun, it was a treat to get back to El Suspiro for a dip in the pool and some R&R in one of its many beautifully decorated rooms. The gardener made sure the pool was always ready for the kids to swim in and the housekeeper was just a charm. She even surprised us by having our laundry done at the end of the day! My parents and sister joined us for a few days, during our second week, and stayed in the Casita by the pool. We appreciated having a large dining room table to be able to enjoy our meals together. On most days, we had two meals at the house. Got lots of freshly baked bread, not far from the house, and a small truck selling fresh fruit and vegetables came by the house, which saved us a long walk back from the grocery store and market! The owner provided lots of helpful information, such as the schedule of Holy Week activities and a map of the city, and was a pleasure to work with. We would love to return to Antigua, in part, to stay again at El Suspiro! We highly recommend this home away from home and its beautiful surroundings.

Antigua Holiday
After looking forward to our family's trip to Antigua for over a year, we arrived and immediately fell in love with El Suspiro. As beautiful as the photos online appear, they don't begin to show just how lovely and yes, magical you will find it to be. There were 10 of us, children and adults, and there was plenty of room for all to be together or find a place to have a little quiet time. The patio was a favorite place to relax and talk, the TV room, was ideal for our card games and the cozy living room was perfect for some alone time. I should also add that the dining room table does seat 12 allowing us to have family dinner together.
Location of the gated community was convenient for the 15-20 minute walk to the center plaza, shops and restaurants. The couple of evenings we went out, we arranged for taxis.
The staff were attentive and thoughtful. In addition to her housekeeping responsibilities, we opted to have her cook dinners every night we were there. That was a good decision because she was a talented cook and included traditional dishes which was a real treat. And I can't forget how grateful we were to her that she did our laundry. Also want to note that since we were there during Christmas-New Years, the gardner surprised us by stringing colored lights around the courtyard - a bit of Christmas fantasy.
Another thing that made the trip go smoothly was that the owner arranged for transportation from and return to the airport.
I enthusiastically recommend this property. Without a doubt, our two-week stay at El Suspiro was a special time we will never forget.

Fantastic retreat in beautiful Antigua
Six of us had the privilege of staying at this wonderful house for two weeks while we studied Spanish at a local school in Antigua. The house (hacienda) is about a 15-20 minutes walk to the center of town. It is located in a gated community on the eastern edge of the town that was wonderfully safe and quiet.
Every photo shown is accurate but does not convey the peacefulness and comfort that the home provides. The swimming pool/spa is an extra bonus. The house is a typical hacienda with four sides of rooms around a beautiful garden and fountain. There are flowers and very old ferns everywhere.
We also used the Casita which is a separate one bedroom home by the pool. It should be noted that the Casita has a big bedroom on the second floor and a living room and bathroom on the first floor. The bedrooms around the gardens in the main house were spacious and well appointed. There are two dining rooms and three living rooms including an outdoor space. We didn’t even use the large TV room.
The owner was terrific to work with and provided lots of help in planning our trip including helping arrange for airport pick-ups and short trips at a fraction of the cost of travel agencies. The house also comes with a very special housekeeper who made our stay even more pleasant. Not only did she keep the house spotless but she also did our laundry, bought groceries for us, and cooked two dinners as well. She was amazing and worth staying at this house just for her help.
We highly recommend this wonderful hacienda.

Amazing getaway in Antigua
A beautiful house settled in one of the most beautiful colonial cities of all America. "Antigua, Guatemala, CA" The house features many different environments for each party to have its own space or share them together. The waterfountain at the main patio gives the house such a special atmosphere. The art, gorgeous painting and beautiful pieces of furniture combined with the high ceilings and colonial look window frames are a delight to enjoy. It's architecture, yet colonial, has some very special features such as the ceiling in the breakfast room, high ceiling in the formal living room and through out the doors to the outside porch. The porch, which was the one I enjoyed the most, display a set of gorgeous ferns hanging from the ceiling and featuring another water fountain in the yard. The tropical yard with it's beautiful plants and flowers, the pool and jacuzzi tops the resort look alike of this colonial home.
Simply put, a beautiful and perfect setting with a very helpful and friendly staff.
Thank you for sharing this home with us during our family reunion. Everyone enjoyed it very much
Blessings.

Wonderful stay in Magical House
Since the moment you arrive at this house you are taken away with all of its beauty and the details provided by the owner (fresh flowers everywhere) just add this that incredible first impression.
We loved our stay here and would recommend it to anyone.
We came here for a family vacation and the layout of the house permitted that we all have our own space and at the same time enjoy the outdoor areas together

Wonderful Stay, Renting a House rocks.
The house is comfortable, clean and large. Plenty of room. Pool was
very refreshing on hot days. We rented with another family. Have
been coming to Antigua for over ten years and this added so much to our vacation
as compared to staying at a hotel.
The serene relaxation afforded by the gardens was reinforced by
the super secure gated community with efficient gatekeepers.
The housekeeper and gardener added warmth and culinary delight. (we had
breakfast several days).
Used the Wi-fi and our kids branched out into the numerous locations to veg, watch TV (we do limit screen time) and enjoyed the lush gardens.
Have not rented many houses, but will look no further on our next visit.
Oh, and the walk into town was a pleasure. I love Antigua and El Suspiro
