About this house rental
Situated on the edge of Big Bonne Bay Pond and Gros Morne National Park our 1800 sq foot beachfront vacation house offers beautiful views of the lake, rolling hills and wildlife. While houses are on either side of the property, large trees keep the house secluded.
The property is situated on the very edge of Gros Morne National Park with a large ecological preserve just outside your master bedroom. Opportunities exist to watch moose, ducks and other wildlife while sitting on your deck or in the vast gardens soaking up the fresh air while having your morning coffee. When you have finished your coffee take a stroll along the beach and have a look for tracks to see if you had any moose visit you overnight.
Exploring Gros Morne national park is a geographically challenged task. Our home is situated in the middle of the park, 40 minutes from the Tablelands Mountains and 1 hour from Western Brook pond. Being centrally located is perfect to head out for your daily adventures.
The House is equipped with all the amenities you will need for your stay. Use the fully equipped oak kitchen to prepare your food however you like it. With a fish plant and full grocery facilities nearby you’ll have lots of opportunity to enjoy fresh lobster, cod and all kinds of ocean treats. We have a lobster pot and outdoor propane cooker at the house so you can enjoy a traditional outdoor lobster feast. If you need more supplies for the house a corner store is only 5 km away and the City of Deer Lake is only a short 15 minute drive.
There are 3 bedrooms. The master bedroom has a Queen bed with large windows overlooking the lake and the ecological preserve. The second bedroom has a Queen bed. The third bedroom has two twin beds. There is additional sleeping possibilities in the finished basement. Otherwise the large leather sectional couch can even add another sleeping location.
At the end of the day there are several choices to relax. A campfire in the stone fire pit will allow you to reflect on your days adventures while you roast some marshmallows and look at the stars. There is also a 7 person, 80 jet, 3 waterfall deluxe hot tub to help soothe your muscles after a day of hiking, snowmobiling, boating, four wheeling or whatever adventures your day entailed.
If the weather decides not to cooperate our house is equipped with lots of activities. The basement is fully furnished with a Plasma TV, Satellite HD receiver, blue ray player, movies, books, satellite internet and board games.
Every season offers a reason to return to the Chateau. Whether its snowmobiling on the number one rated trail in the world, ice fishing, four wheeling, sea doing, boating, hiking or just relaxing with a book in the fresh air , a stay at Chateau Shady Loop offers it all.

Great location for visiting Gros Morne National Park. Very nice accommodations, views, and hot tub. Hosts were quick to respond and helpful.
Highly recommend!

The review focuses on the property itself, not the location (etc). We arrived in late July as remnants of a hurricane left. The temperature dropped to about 12 outside, and the interior of the house was both damp & smelt musty. We could not turn the heating on, dehumidification in the basement cooled it off, and did not impact the humidity. The basement shower (we had been advice of this prior to arrival) was not-functioning, and was not usable during our stay. The result was the basement was thus not habitable. Kitchen and dining area were as expected, hot tub was good. The single beds squeaked. The rest was a reduced living space for two mature couples, when the expectation was different.

Enjoyed our stay very much. Relaxing in the hot tub was a big plus. Only drawback was door in downstairs shower was broken so, one shower amongst five people. Tried to contact property managers but cell number out of service and no response to messages left on voicemail of the other number given.

Wonderful location for visiting Gros Morne park. Hosts were very responsive with all my questions leading up to the visit as we were flying in and didn't know what we should bring. Beds were very comfortable and clean, kitchen was well equipped and hot tub worked great after long days of exploring the park. Thank you for opening up this gem of a cottage to visitors :).

Very cottagy! Access to the lake from the cottage would have been an excellent feature.

Perfect location..The house had everything we needed. The hot tub was heaven after a day on the skidoos. The view was breath taking. Perfect location for skidooing. Will definitely be back! .

Western Newfoundland is a hiker's paradise, and Bonne Bay Pond is a comfortable and convenient home base for your explorations. Western Brook Pond, the Tablelands and Deer Lake are all within a fairly short drive. For a longer outing, make your way to Corner Brook and then west to land's end at Bottle Cove. The trails there are fairly easy, and the views are stunning!

Short but sweet
We only were able to spend one night of the 4 we booked due to multiple AirCanada flight cancellations; however, we enjoyed a beautiful early morning on the deck. The setting is wonderful.

Great time on the edge of Gros Morne
We had a great time staying at this property. We are a family of five from the Netherlands and we had good communication with the owner what to expect and how to get there. Nice bedrooms for everyone and a great hangout for our kids in the basement with large TV screen. Good kitchen and bathrooms. And offcourse a great experience in the hot tub, watching the stars at night or the surrounding nature. The shady loop is on a 15 minute drive from the Gros Morne park. Thank you for having us!

A bit tired!
We loved the location and convenience of this house. The view was spectacular and barring bad weather the grounds added to a relaxed and enjoyable getaway. After having booked more than 12 months in advance, the house was not ready for us when we arrived late in the day. This was very disappointing. In general the house felt OK, but not spot on as far as cleanliness of the place.

Thank you Jen and Joel for a wonderful time at your delightful house! From our first contact with you through the end of our stay our rental experience with you was perfect! This house is well appointed and very clean. We did all of our cooking in and the kitchen had everything we needed to do so - all we had to do was supply the food and cook it! There is ample bedding and towels as well as towels for the hot tub and beach. The pond is a short walk away and would have been warm enough to swim in had we had time. We will definitely be recommending your place to family and friends!

Wonderful location, beautiful deck (although some of the boards are in need of replacing) with great view of the lake. Great space indoors for 6 people.

Fantastic location to explore Gros Morne
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Gros Morne and Chateau Shady Loop is located in an ideal spot for exploring both the Tablelands and Rocky Harbour sides of the park. The house was very nice and easy to find. While there were a few things that could use minor maintenance they did not negatively impact our stay. I would recommend picking up groceries in Deer Lake before checking into the house. We really enjoyed the West Brook Pond boat tour, sea kayaking with Gros Morne Adventure, the Tablelands hike and of course conquering Gros Morne Mountain. It is quite a hike -took us 7.5 hours but well worth it! The Deer Lake Insectarium is also fun for a rainy day or before flying home. We would definitely recommend this location to friends and would stay here again ourselves. Gros Morne is fantastic!

One of our best stays ever!
Everything was great! Directions were spot on, no issues with the door lock code, and once inside, extremely well equipped.
The views were fabulous. We'd start each morning with a coffee on the deck overlooking the water, and then start our adventures. The hot tub was a welcome addition to soothe our aches after a day of hiking in Gros Morne.
Weather was great, very sunny and the only thing we wished for was a way to open the awning to give us a bit of shade. All in, would definitely return, and if you're looking for a well equipped, well situated home base for your adventures, this is it.

Wonderful home, perfect location
We had a wonderful time. The home was perfect for our family. It was so close to Gros Morne! The kids were disappointed that there was no air hockey table, but there were plenty of other things to do. The hot tub was wonderful after hiking the Tablelands during the day and it was fun watching the beavers and ducks in the pond just outside the window. It was difficult to leave, wish we had stayed two more days even though we woke up to snow on the day we left.

Sunsets, hottub, and moose...
A perfect location from which to explore Gros Morne: we headed out to Trout River one day, to a Bonne Bay boat tour the next day, and to Western Brook Pond the final day...returning each evening to Bonne Bay Pond and brilliant pink and purple sunsets viewed from the hottub. This property is wonderfully quiet, with nothing but the sound of birds in the morning and frogs on the pond in the evening...and our final morning we looked out the window to see a moose out in the marsh! Kitchen is quite well equipped for preparing a few meals in, though given the amazing seafood in the area, could use a few lobster implements (we used our hands, sheer determination, and a few bandaids...) Plastic wine glasses for use in the hottub are a great touch! Thanks for sharing this lovely spot with us.

Hot Tub was outstanding. House could use a little maintenance.
We rented for the hot tub and the view and it met our expectations. The house does need some general maintenance. Dishwasher took some time to figure out. Large tv in basement was excellent.

We really enjoyed our stay and will book again in the future. The location was perfect for our winter Snowmobiling trip. The home was very clean, spacious, well kept and comfortable with all amenities one would need. The hot tub is an added bonus!

Excellent home for an adventurous group
Gros Morne National Park should be on everyone's must-do list. Chateau Shady loop was the perfect home away from home for our group of 3 couples. We spent the days experiencing Gros Morne, the evenings were very relaxing enjoying wine and a sunset over the pond. We utilized the kitchen making great dinners and relaxing in the hot tub. The property is very clean, the bedrooms are large and comfortable.
Jen and Joel are wonderful hosts, from booking to settling in, everything was seamless with perfect communications.
Highly recommend Chateau Shady Loop

Outstanding property
This was an incredible property. It was private and quiet, and the house was very thoughtfully and nicely stocked with everything we needed. It was the perfect home base for exploring Gros Morne. The hot tub was perfect and clean, and the barbecue was high end and hooked into a main gas line, which was extremely convenient. The level of privacy cannot be beat. Even a great TV with Netflix which is a huge help if you're there with kids. Not sure how it could have been better. Thoughtful owners and a great home in a great location with great facilities. Thank you!

family of 4 July stay
We had the pleasure of staying here 4 days. Great location, easy access to Gros Morne park and close to Deer Lake for groceries.. The house is cozy, comfortable and well appointed (amazing hot tub!) but considering the price some minor maintenance details needed attending too (dishwasher, hole in deck, toilet paper holder..) to make it a 5 star.

Snowmobiling couples
Our 2nd snowmobiling trip to Shady Loop Chalet did not disappoint 😁 It really is a little piece of heaven on earth 🌨 Even with the winter weather we totally enjoy yourself, 25 cm of fresh powder on top of at least 6 feet of snow is a dream. Excellent conditions and all the trails are on your doorstep. Once the vehicle was parked on Thursday, it didn't move until Monday morning. Three great days on the trails, to return to a cozy home with everything you need, total relaxation each evening and the hot tub💗. Like I said, heaven on earth!!! Can't wait for next year, may just have to plan two visits 😍

Excellent Location for Snowmobilers
This is at least the 3rd time we have stayed at Shady loop for our annual snowmobiling trips. Our group usually consists of any where from 4 to 6 men.
The home never disappoints and there is always ample space for this many guests. There is lots of space for gear to be laid out in the basement near the propane stove and is well dry by the morning.
The full kitchen is great for preparing your own meals and you never need to eat out if you don't want too. As well the newly installed high end BBQ on is a great addition.
There is ample parking at the home and you can drive your truck and trailer right to the door. No need to have to carry gear in toboggans upon arrival or when leaving.
The Bonne Bay Pond area is one of the best on the island for snowmobiling with good reliable snow most winters from January to April. The Jack ladder is only a short hop away and has some groceries, small bar/restaurant with excellent food and a gas bar. No need to worry about having to bring gas in Jerry cans as you can gas up every evening at the jack ladder.
Overall Shady loop is one of the best places I have stayed on the West coast of Newfoundland for snowmobiling and would recommend this property to anybody interested snowmobiling in this area.
