About this house rental
Owlscombe is perfectly positioned on the coastal slopes of Exmoor with uninterrupted, panoramic sea views across the Bristol channel within a short stroll of the pretty harbour village of Porlock Weir and its amenities.
Owlscombe is a very special holiday home which is perfect for large family gatherings or friends getting together to relax or celebrate a memorable occasion.
The house is a magnificent, modern, 6 bedroom property with 6 bathrooms that sleeps up to 12 people and accepts pets. It makes the most of its unique, coastal position with floor to ceiling windows allowing light to flood in to the main “super room” where you will find a modern kitchen, large dining table and seating area to soak up the views. Recently renovated, the house boasts many eco friendly features; the underfloor heating and hot water is powered by the Ground Source Heat Pump and water comes straight from the depths of Exmoor via our own modern, filtered well.
Guests enter the house from the private, gated parking area. Inside the reception hallway you will find plenty of hanging space for jackets and a large oak bench where you can comfortably remove your shoes after those long, muddy walks.. Immediately off of the hall you will find a large utility room with sink, washing machine and tumble dryer. A further door will lead you into the main, open plan living area with glorious double aspect views across the channel and gardens. The kitchen boasts a large Range cooker with double oven and induction hob, huge American style fridge freezer, walk-in larder, wine fridge and 2 dishwashers. The sociable kitchen has bar stool seating at the island and a further seating area with two sofas. The contemporary dining table comfortably seats 12 and sits adjacent to the double sided wood burner for those cosy, winter suppers. Beyond the intersecting fireplace you will find the TV room with two very large comfortable sofas and occasional chairs. Watch sports on the Sky TV package, choose a DVD from the library or settle down for a family game together. Enjoy the spotting scope for birdwatching, tracking boats up and down the channel or simply gaze into the night sky and appreciate why Exmoor has been named as Europe’s first Dark Sky reserve. The first of the double bedrooms is located on the ground floor which can be helpful for any guests who prefer this and is near to the separate downstairs WC and shower room.
On the first floor you will find 4 further bedrooms each with their own en-suites. A double aspect, King Size Master bedroom with shower room, balcony and floor to ceiling bay window enjoys spectacular views across Porlock Bay to Selworthy Beacon. A further King Size Bedroom and shower room with private balcony and views across the garden and bay to Hurlstone Point. A third double with large bathroom including a walk-in shower and double ended bath with views from the tub across to Gore point and finally the fourth double with garden views and ensuite round out the accommodation on this floor.
Stairs head up to the top floor via the glass roofed turret with further views across the bay and beyond. Here you will find a very large, open plan space ideal for teenagers or kids to hide away. A 7x4 foot pool and snooker table, PS4, games, dolls house, toys, comfy sofa and bean bags makes this the ideal den. Two single beds are tucked away at one end of the room next to the bathroom with a large shower cubicle and a further bath.
The gardens and grounds extend to nearly an acre and offer a variety of spaces to relax and enjoy. Immediately accessed from the house is the patio, with circular table and chairs comfortably seating 12, a Weber BBQ and a firepit for those night time marshmallow roasts. The main lawn is next to the patio where croquet and boules can be played under the magnificent, mature Magnolia trees. Here you will also find two paths leading into the woodland garden which is a delight for anyone with a passion for plants or a game of hind and seek. The paths continue on through the garden where you will find both a formal and wildlife pond, a woodland rill, a lawned glade and several quiet benches for you to hide away on with a book or maybe a glass.
A few minutes stroll down the quiet lane will find you in the pretty 15th century harbour village of Porlock Weir. Enjoy a pub meal at the family friendly local "The Bottom Ship" with its open fires, local ales and ciders, head over to Locanda at the Weir for their Italian inspired restaurant or enjoy South East Asian dishes from Exmoor’s best kept foodie secret at Ziang’s. Porlock Weir is also home to Exmoor Adventures who run a vast array of activities including kayaking, coasteering, mountain biking to name but a few. Arrange to be picked up from Owlscombe by one of the local Safari companies who will take you across the moor to see the ponies and deer that the area is famous for or head to the West Somerset railway for a journey back in time on their famous steam locomotive.

From the moment we booked until after our departure, Stuart was helpful and communicated well.
The house is just stunning and to wake with those huge windows and views was pure bliss.
We were a group of 10 and a little dog and we had plenty of room to socialise in and eat at the huge table.
Everything has been thought of especially in the kitchen! Even a cake mixer !
The garden is stunning. In warmer weather i could just sit out and read for hours.
Lovely walks all around. We also used exmoor adventures for Archery which was just down the road.
We would love to come again!!

House location and description was all as described ….. lovely stay —peaceful and some lovely small walks especially down to the local pub via the coastal path … garden views weee unreal over the sea and sunrises were awesome too —- probably helped by the decent weather we had ….. Ice machine packed up 5 days into stay — stuart had another delivered very next day (awesome) —- definitely recommend this house to anyone looking for a peaceful relaxing holiday with all mod cons at hand

The property and surroundings look stunning in the photos but no picture can do justice to the magnificent, unspoilt views over the Bristol Channel that you get from almost all rooms in the house. It's an absolute joy to experience.
The house itself has everything one could need: each bedroom has an en-suite bathroom and there are high-spec entertainment and kitchen appliances throughout (the Riedel wine glasses were particularly welcome by this oenophile). It really was a nigh-on faultless stay.in one of the most beautiful parts of England.

We had a group of 12. Stayed from Friday to Sunday.
From the get go Stuart was amazing, very responsive and gave some great recommendations for activities.
When we arrived the house was even better than the awesome pictures. It’s honestly one of the best places we have stayed.
The downstairs is perfect and garden and view are just amazing. It was well stocked from martini glasses to little tumblers. Enough cups and plates to five to everyone.
Every bathroom bar the floor level has an en-suite which is great.
Porlock wier is beautiful and not a long walk AT ALL. The pub and hotel pizza terrace are amazing. It’s so idyllic and great for a afternoon pint.
The bbq is top quality and fire pit is huge! Will definitely book again and recommend to everyone.
Worth the money 100%.
Thank you Stuart!

We stayed the week before Christmas and had one of the most relaxing holidays we've ever had. The location is beautiful with views over to Wales on a clear day. Even the dog enjoyed sitting and staring out of the window.
Lots of great local walks and Porlock Weir is lovely - several nice (and dog friendly) places to eat.
The house itself was spotless and beautifully furnished. The kitchen was exceptionally well equipped and we appreciated the small touches too (including being wonderfully decorated for Christmas).
Some small shops nearby in Porlock but for larger shops it was 20 minutes to Minehead.

We were a group of 7 adults from 24 to 90 and booked this property to celebrate three special birthdays this year. We were not disappointed. The views from downstairs and some of the bedrooms are stellar and the property itself is very well appointed with a modern and spacious interior, plus all the kitchen facilities we could wish for. The garden was also a beautiful place to relax in. To cap it all off, the night time skies were clear so we could see the Milky Way and even used the telescope provided to see Jupiter’s moons. A very special stay.

Great Stay, Stunning Location
We really enjoyed our stay at Stuarts property. We stayed early Nov and were blessed with beautiful weather despite the winter season. The house was stunning and the scenery breath taking. I was impressed that the property was just as described. It was spacious, clean and everything was easily accessible and I loved that most rooms had en-suites - just what we needed for a large group of 10 adults and 5 children!
Stuart was very friendly, swift to respond to our queries and was extremely helpful when we encountered an issue. I’m so pleased we stayed here and the only real issue was that we didn’t stay longer! Would definitely recommend to friends and family.

Everything was thought of in this house. Meticulous attention has been paid to the things that make a holiday house a 'home' and there is a generous spirit prevalent throughout the house and garden which could not be improved. We very much hope to return.

A magical place
This was one of the loveliest , most magical places we have ever stayed. The house is beautiful and the pictures don't do it justice - it was spotless and well appointed. The views are absolutely breathtaking. The location right on the south west coast path was fantastic -we had some lovely family walks down to the harbour and up through the hills. The children loved playing in the gardens and watching the lambs. We will definitely return.

Wow from start to finish
The property was superb. Everything we could have hoped for and more. The location too was fantastic. Even though we had rain every day, we never tired of the view. The garden too was really special. It was a pity the weather wasn’t better because we would have liked to spend more time in the garden.

Lovely summer holiday and amazing sea view
We had a lovely summer family holiday staying at this beautiful home. We were a family of 9 and this house was perfect for us. There was plenty of car parking and there were 5 bedrooms plus a loft room with two twin beds. The house was very clean and had all the amenities you would need.
We loved the garden and sitting outside and looking at the view. We bbq several nights!
The kitchen has a large fridge, very well equipped and a lovely place to eat as well as two sofas to sit at that again has a lovely view of the sea.
We enjoyed walking down to the Pier for ice cream and skipping stones. There is also several good restaurants we order from. We also enjoyed a 45 minute drive away to visit an amazing beach Woolacombe with amazing waves that the kids loved.
The owner Stuart was super attentive and answered all of our questions and was very helpful.
We would definitely recommend this house and would love to stay here again. Fabulous holiday!

Excellent house with everything you could want
The house was amazing and just what we wanted. We travelled as a family of 12 plus a baby and the house was plenty big enough for everyone. We each had our own bathroom which was great and there was plenty enough parking for 5/6 cars. Everything in the house was top of the range and working. It was lovely to have a fridge big enough to cater for that number of people. The house was spotless and perfectly catered for during COVID. Stuart was amazing and answered any questions I had instantly.
From a personal point of view the only thing that was an issue for us was the ponds in the garden with a 1 year old. It meant we couldn’t relax and just let him run around in case he fell in (which the dogs did several times) and also our dog kept jumping through the hole in the wall to the field of sheep! This wouldn’t stop us returning again but is something to take into consideration with smaller children (it was fine with the other children ages 5-12).
Amazing views and 100% worth the money. Amazing property, thank you for sharing it with us Stuart!

Extraordinary location, beautiful house luxurious garden
One of my best holidays. The house is beautifully decorated, kitchen well equipped, tasteful objects. And that view!! Peaceful sleep. 5 min walk to
Porlock Weir where we had excellent food. Fresh oysters sold daily. Gorgeous walks on the Exmoor. Already thinking of going back. Stuart was super attentive, easy communication. The best UK holiday I’ve had!

Owlscombe August ‘19
An amazing property with stunning views!! We had a fabulous time in this beautiful setting. The house had absolutely everything you could need to entertain our whole family. The garden in particular provided a relaxing spot for adults and a magical area for the children. Indoors people were equally well entertained with plenty of board games not to mention the activities available in the ‘play room’. The kitchen was also well equipped and we enjoyed our family meal times. The welcome pack was a lovely touch with so much local produce, thank you! The convenience of being able to stroll to Porlock Weir was an added bonus (and saved fuel!) when we chose to eat out.
Stuart was so helpful and ensured our stay was perfect! He was easy to contact and responded immediately to any questions we had. Such a lovely place, I’m sure we would all love to return!!
