About this house rental
Chalone Pinnacles House is a 40 Acre 5,000 Square foot estate surrounded by Chalone Vineyards. This is the location of many famous Chalone stock holder parties. 3 wineries are within 5 minutes and 7 more within 20.
The house is perfect for 5 couples or 3 families of four. The views are stunning from nearly every room, deck, patio, pool, and jacuzzi.
There is also spectacular hiking at Pinnacles National Monument. We are 5 minutes from the western entrance. Pinnacles is very different with unusual talus caves and streams. You will probably see California condors. 5 hikes are available. Two easy and three pretty strenuous.
Hang by the pool in the sun. No fog up here at 1500 feet. The star gazing is spectacular. We are a 15 minute drive off of Highway 101. Super quiet.
There are 8 restaurants to 10 15 minutes away that can do take out.
Tons of activities. Super Setting. Historic California Property.
I can not believe we were lucky enough to buy this beautiful estate.
HOUSE DETAILS: Three levels. Upper, Middle, and Lower
The UPPER level has 2 big bedrooms (one king one queen) with gorgeous views and very private decks with a large bathroom between them.
The MIDDLE level has the entry, large kitchen, dinning room, pantry, and 2 large bedrooms (kings) with large bath in between. These rooms all have beautiful views. The bedrooms also have nice private patios with chaise lounges. There is also a bedroom (twins) with nearby bath. This room is the only room in the house with no view. Short straw gets this room. There is a huge patio off of the dining room with lots of room and jaw dropping views.
The LOWER level has the living room, den, large bath, half bath, wine cellar, and pool/media room. There is a fold outs in the pool room and one in the den to take the sleeping capacity from 10 to 14. This level opens up to the pool, the large patio around the pool, and the jacuzzi. All with stunning views.

Got to spend a long weekend celebrating a Bride to Be! After turning down the long dirt road, we thought we were lost for good. Instead we had stumbled into a private oasis of luxury among the vineyards! We lounged in the pool, went for a hike at nearby Pinnacles and went tasting at Chalone vineyard. We brought almost all of our food as the nearest restaurants are quite far. Overall incredibly chill and relaxing weekend!

Anniversary weekend
It was the perfect getaway for down time and reconnecting with friends.

Poor wifi, a/c doesn't work, loose mouse
Pro:
-Large property located on vineyard.
-Vineyard view
-Nice pool and spa
Con:
-Poor internet (not suitable for wfh), internet was only available in dining area and living room. No internet anywhere else and no cellular service within 5 miles of property.
-Saw a mouse running around the kitchen at night (mentioned to owner, response was he will have the cleaner set more traps. Sounds like the mouse is a long term tenant)
-A/C did not work in two of the rooms (mid-level furthest two bedroom)
-secluded location, felt like a treasure hunt to find the place.
-dated kitchen and bathrooms

Birthday
Kids with their family along with grandma & grandpa. The house was large enough for all of us, 8 adults, 5 children. We were not aware there wasn't central air conditioning. There were portable units and fans. Not all of them were working properly. That was disappointing. The outside dining area is in need of new chairs. We used the ones from the pool area. Pool was amazing, plenty of games and activities for the kids. Kitchen was well equipped. Thanks for a good time.

Great but not without incident
Beautiful house, ample room, as advertised. It is a little off-the-beaten path so following the directions to a tee is important and when leaving, take the printed directions with you. Although kitchen is stocked with staples, we ran out of a couple of things. Bert was readily available via text when issues arose and was quick to solve them. Our family enjoyed ourselves and took advantage of all the amenities provided.

Nice property but maintenance needed
Great sized property with beautiful views and nice amenities to keep adults and kids entertained. The pool, hot tub, pool table and table tennis were big hits for our family. The amenities and close proximity to Pinnacles was what made it a great stay.
However, there are many maintenance issues that need to be addressed prior to the owner renting out the property again. I've sent him a long list of items (13+ issues) hoping it will all be resolved so the next family can truly enjoy the property without incident. Renting out a property is a business and everything disclosed should be working properly. Otherwise, it’s false advertising and should not be listed. At first glance, the property looked well maintained and clean. Unfortunately, after the first night, we realized linens were dirty, pots/pans and many utensils were in poor condition (for health reasons, these should not be used), no propane for grill or any of their outdoor fireplaces (owner told me there was charcoal but none were found nor was there a charcoal grill), six bicycles but only one worked, and several of us were bit from bed bugs (sofa bed and bedroom beds). We were disappointed with the stay as we had to find workarounds to issues which deterred us from quality time with family (still itching 3 days later from the unwanted souvenir).
One important tip - the owner's website to the property is a MUST read. If you don't read it before you head up, you will get lost and not understand how to get into the property. Although it is shown in the listing, one can easily glance over it. It would be good for the owner to send a reminder to read the website. Side note: In the website it says to only bring food because their kitchen is stocked with spices and oil. Fortunately I brought my own EVOO, salt and pepper because none was provided.
A final note about Pinnacles National Park (a short 10 min drive away, $30 per car entrance fee) and the Balconies Cave Loop Trail. This 2.4 mile trail is a combination of hiking and going into caves. It can be a scary hike for little ones especially if they are afraid of the dark. A couple of head lamps are HIGHLY recommended otherwise your cell phone light can work, too. We hiked on a day where there were others on the same trail and their headlamps helped our group of 10 greatly!

Stunning views
The property was as good as advertised. Just 5 minutes from the west gate of Pinnacles and the home was absolutely beautiful with amazing views of the vineyard. The kids loved the place and enjoyed the pool! Will definitely come back!

Fabulous!
Wonderful huge home, overlooking the vineyards and sunset behind the hills. with glorious jacuzzi and warm pool, it was fun for the kids who enjoyed the game room as well!
Pinnacles national park west entrance is close by, with beautiful and adventures trails. We saw lots of wild life and wild flowers.
The kitchen was well equipped and the rooms were spacious and comfortable.
Highly recommended for family vacation!

Beautiful and healing
Bert's property is gorgeous and filled with all the right amenities and more (pool towels, water polo ball and net!)
We lounged by the pool, took a stroll through the vineyards, and cooked large family meals.
We recommend this house for your families and friends to come together and experience the best times.

Amazing stay
Our part of 9 had a great stay at the Chalone compound. So much space for gathering as a family (especially the dining area). Bert was very responsive and quick to refill our supply of firewood (thanks Enoch!). I would definitely stay here again.

Paradise by the Pinnacles
This property is simply amazing. We were 3 families (a couple and two kids each) and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The pictures definitely do not do it justice. The pool table, hot tub, and swimming pool were instant hits for all of us. The house itself is huge which allowed our kids to have a lot of space and fun. The kitchen and bathrooms were well-stocked which made it easy for us to stay. We did have an issue with the water supply but the hosts were very responsive and had the issues fixed immediately and also extended courtesies for the slight inconvenience. Overall, if you are looking for a luxurious, quiet and massive place to stay which is right by wineries and the Pinnacles National Park, this is the place to be!

Lovely place
The pool and jacuzzi overlooking the lovely vineyard made our weekend unforgettable. That plus the spaciousness of the home / property and the proximity to pinnacles make chalone a place I’d come back.

Beautiful and well-equipped
Stunning views and beautiful house, with well-equipped kitchen, plenty of room for dining indoors and outdoors, and comfy beds. Stayed for my 40th birthday with friends and had a lovely time in the pool and hot tub overlooking the sunset and looking at the stars.

The house and view is absolutely beautiful! Wish I stayed longer!
Such a great stay the host and the house were amazing. We went wine tasting at Chalome winery and it was so fun and nice, I highly recommend. We had a great and relaxing time. The view is worth every penny!

Beautiful property
Pictures don’t do this place justice. Amazing views from every corner, house is spacious and isolated from all outside noise and lights. We had 15 people, including 7 children and did not feel cramped at all. House is great for large groups.

Excellent “staycation” experience
If you’re looking to take a break, slow down and completely relax, stay at this place. The swimming pool is excellent, hot tub is truly relaxing with a great view of the vineyards and horizon. Ping pong table, board games entertained the kids. We hardly watched TV and only used the pool table once since we spent a lot of time in the pool and hot tub. In the summer, at 90F, it can get pretty warm inside the house even with windows opened. The breeze outside was cool and comfortable. It was nice to have someone come in the middle of our stay to do some touch up cleaning. Bert was very responsive and solved issues and answered questions quickly. Please be aware that since you’re surrounded by vineyards, garden with lots of trees and plants, you will be interacting with dragonflies, grasshoppers, etc. There were yellow jackets, so we couldn’t really dine outside. Lastly, we spent an hour or two star gazing at night. We haven’t seen that many stars and satellites in a long time. We could see the Milky Way, lots of shooting stars.
We also visited Pinnacles for a 1.5 hour hike to the Balcony cliffs and caves. All of the kids were able to complete the hike. It was a 15 minute drive to the trailhead from the house.
With a few updates to kitchen utensils, and sofas, this would be one of those homes away from home that I would dream of owning one day.

Great Location and Amenities
We loved the vineyard location...rolling hills, wildlife (turkeys, rabbits, birds) and July sunshine. Also appreciated all the recreational options-- swimming pool, hot tub, pingpong, pool table, puzzles and games. The kitchen was well stocked with necessities and the large table was perfect for our group of 12.
The only drawback was the daily battle with kitchen ants. Despite our best efforts to keep things extra clean, the ants would reappear each morning.

Could have been better if...
Let's start with the good- the house is beautiful, and the view is amazing.
The area is seclusive and gives the privacy needed for a large group or family that wants to enjoy a quiet time or have a party. The place is peaceful and has a great sunset view and breeze.
We had several issues that are worth mentioning:
All the rooms had large windows that were not covered by curtains (some were missing, some were broken) and woke us up by 7 am. If you are not a morning person, make sure you have eye covers.
The amenities are very old, such as showers, kitchen supplies, and bed covers, and no air conditioning, only loud fans. I believe the owners didn't replace anything for the last decade (replacing a modern shower head would be a nice start).
There were ants all over the kitchen. We left a cake for a couple of hours on the kitchen counter, and it was covered in ants!
The pool was super cold, with no option to warm it up, so we ended up staying the entire time at the jacuzzi.

Lovely house and location
Had a relaxing stay with family and friends! Area is beautiful and house is set up well for numerous couples with privacy for the bedrooms and beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces to congregate. Enjoying visiting nearby winery and pinnacles park. Very relaxing and glad that we visited!

Beautiful place and location, but a serious pest problem
I spent a weekend there with my extended family (total of 13 people). The place is spacious and very pretty. The views are amazing - as you can see in the listed pictures. The house is well equipped and in general we had a good time.
But, the house currently has a serious ants problem. There are a lot of ants in the house, swarming the kitchen and the rooms. We had ants entering our suitcases, every food item
(even in bags) and even in the fridge. This is such a shame!
Another issue is the lack of airconditioning. The listing has no AC. This may not be an issue not in the summer, but we had a hot weekend and it was pretty unbearable. The house has portable AC units, but they only produce air (not cool air).

Issues, but host made things as right as he could.
Bert whose the host took my calls quickly, and did refund without question, however we could not stay at the house due to major issues, and had to stay in a low budget hotel and didn't get to enjoy being together with our family and our drive was now much longer to see family.

Great house in beautiful location
Our family stayed at Chalone@Pinnacles with the intention of visiting Pinnacles National Park. But the home was so nice and the property/view so beautiful we never made it to Pinnacles. :) Just a great place to relax, we spent most of our time out by the pool/hot tub, or cooking and playing games in the kitchen. Lots of wildlife on the property to watch, we saw jackrabbits and wild turkeys and hummingbirds and ground squirrels and vultures. And the cliff swallows nesting under the eaves were fun to watch each evening, followed by good stargazing with minimal light pollution. Don't forget to try the Chalone wine while you're there.

We really had a great memorable time in this unique and amazing property!Everyone feels good about a lot of space and great amenities such as a swimming pool, a hot tab, and a pool table in the game room. Kitchen was equipped with every little need, and it was nice and easy to cook our meals there.Special thanks to Bert for the Christmas tree, which added a nice spirit of the holidays. We even explored mountain bikes and had a nice ride to a pinnacle park. Some bikes needed some small adjustments, but in general we were able to make a nice ride. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone who is looking for private private getaway with family or friends. I’ll consider going back sometime again.

Beautiful Views and Very Spacious
Overall, a very good place to stay. Pros and cons are as follows: PROS - property was very beautiful and house was very large and spacious for a larger group. Very quiet location. View from the hot tub was just as pictured! Bedrooms were rustic/pretty and beds were clean with comfortable mattresses. When we visited we had a couple of rainy days and it was colder time of the year so the pool was not utilized as much as desired, but it was clean and warm for a pool. The hot tub was very enjoyable! The home included many areas for separate gatherings when needed. Bathrooms and showers were very large and overall felt clean. Bikes were in good condition, and the driveway/garage area was great place for two young kids to ride their bikes back-and-forth and adults to do so as well with them. Many outdoor areas for walking and landscaping was well kept and very pretty. Fireplaces were located throughout the house and heated the house and bedrooms very well (that said, we had people in our group very adept at building fires in fireplaces). Some of the doors leading outside had large gaps, so they were drafty and did not feel secured. Kitchen stove and ovens worked great and the dining area was large with beautiful table. Bathrooms were large and washer and dryer worked great. CONS - kitchen was basically dirty (there were many crumbs/food particles in between the tile countertop and burners. Oven windows had A LOT of grease drippings. Pans were scratched and peeling. HUGE spiderweb with hanging dead bugs on the chandelier over the dining table. Tile floors felt dirty - had leftover debris and hair. Bathrooms are not private per bedroom - four bedrooms had shared bathrooms (one bathroom per two bedrooms), the fifth bedroom used a hall bathroom (not a big deal, but property description implied there were separate bathrooms for each bedroom). Outdoor towels were very used and some had holes. Although the pergola outdoors was aesthetically pleasing, rain and dew left the patios useless for enjoying the fire tables during the rainy/colder weather. A little more remote than anticipated (drive-in on a very narrow road and was difficult to navigate the location of the house on the dirt roads, especially since neighbors were loading cows and we had to enter in a different direction). All that said, the house is worth visiting if you're looking for large, quiet, beautiful property.
