About this cottage rental
Seasmoke Cottage is the private guest cottage on a 4 acre oceanfront property which also includes the owners' year-round residence. The cottage is located at the narrowest point of the Newbury Neck Peninsula in Surry, Maine. A short walk down a woodland path leads to a shoreline seating area to enjoy sunset views of Morgan Bay, explore tidal pools, and watch seals, osprey, and eagles vie for their fish dinners. A short walk in the opposite direction leads to the Carrying Place Beach, a "warm" water (Maine standards!) swimming beach, or to Perry's Lobster Shack, an area landmark frequented by locals, tourists, and boaters. Newbury Neck Peninsula is ideal for sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding, biking, hiking, and long walks with views of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park. The "Neck" is situated at the center of some of most scenic places in Maine including Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island, the Blue Hill Peninsula, and Downeast Maine. And despite its coastal tranquility, it's only 20 minutes away from shops and restaurants.
Seasmoke Cottage is a comfortable and centrally-located place to head home after long days exploring this part of Maine. Nestled in a wooded setting midway between Morgan and Union River Bays, it faces a clay tennis court used exclusively by the guests. The cottage has its own parking, and guests approach the cottage via a private lighted path.
Its spacious deck, with table, umbrella, dining and lounge chairs, is a sunny place for dining, relaxing, or watching your family play tennis.
The cottage is spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated, and fully equipped. Whatever the weather, the cottage is a four-season residence that can be heated, air-conditioned, or dehumidified both upstairs and downstairs. The living room is comfortably furnished and includes a gas fireplace, especially nice on cool fall evenings. The bookshelves are filled with a broad selection of summer reading, games, and puzzles, including children's toys and books. The TV has Roku for streaming movies and shows using guests’ passwords.
The downstairs bedroom has a queen bed with a new mattress in 2024 and is dressed in crisp sheets and elegant bedding. Upstairs, two semi-private "rooms", separated by an enclosed stairwell, feature a queen bed on one side and two twins on the other.
The single bathroom downstairs features a tiled walk-in shower and on-demand hot water.
The kitchen is fully equipped for any meal you might want to make. It has Atlantic black granite countertops, a ceramic cooktop electric range with self-cleaning oven, a refrigerator with ice-maker, a microwave, three different methods of coffee preparation (Keurig coffeemaker, drip, and Chemex pour-over), Bosch dishwasher, and plenty of pots and pans, bakeware, cutlery, dishes, and glassware.
There is a washer and dryer, but in case you don't want to spend your time doing laundry, there are plenty of extra sheets and towels, including beach towels. (The owners will wash and dry your towels for you if you leave them in a basket at the back door.)
Paper products, laundry and dishwashing detergents, and staple food items like flour, sugar, spices, vinegars, and oils are provided. There is even charcoal for the grill. If needed, there is a pack-n-play crib with sheets, a highchair, and a baby gate for the stairs.
Seasmoke Cottage is thoughtfully equipped and well-prepared to make your time here easy and enjoyable.

We had a wonderful week at the cottage. Our hosts were so welcoming. It is very well equipped, cozy and has one of the most pristine tennis courts we have ever played on. We definitely encourage tennis (and Maine) lovers to check it out. It’s on our “would love to go back” list!

We experienced all of the positives that were promised in the description and comments. We rode our bikes to the beach and lobster spot. Both are very close to the cottage and both were very fun times. We also had an EV car and we found the Tesla supercharger convenient at the Ellsworth supermarket. A great vacation!

This was our first time in DownEast Maine. MaryAnne and Marc were wonderful hosts who took care of everything and made our stay one to remember. We enjoyed tennis and the beach on our days we were not in Acadia NP. The property grounds and cottage were amazing! Our kids gave it an A+ !!!

Beautiful, clean, comfortable cottage. Away from traffic and other people. Beautiful property. We enjoyed the sunsets. We have zero complaints and enjoyed our stay very much!

Owners live next door. They were engaged and very helpful from inquiry to checkout. The place is very clean and well supplied. When power to the county went out they let us know they’d phoned it in. And yes they have backup power. We had inadvertently left an item at home. They shared theirs.

My family of four (8 and 10 year old) enjoyed a week at this lovely cottage. The rental was the cleanest rental I've ever been in, so right away it made us comfortable. The kitchen is stocked with everything you might need, and there are plenty of towels, books, games etc. My only discomfort in the house was the mattress in the downstairs bedroom where we slept, so my suggestion to the hosts is perhaps replace it soon!
The tennis court was amazing, and although we are not tennis players, we enjoyed some family time on the courts. There is no view of the water from inside the house, but you walk less than 1 minute down a private path to a beautiful spot with adirondack chairs and a peaceful view (no one in sight). We made a day trip to Acadia to hike (about 50 minutes drive), as well as trips to Ellsworth for mexican food and ice cream (86 This and Morton's Moo). There was a cool jewelry/stone/bead store in Ellsworth too that my kids loved. But we spent most of the days walking along the water. The beach is rocky/pebbly (not good for those with poor balance), but great fun to explore. We saw seals, loons, hawks, minnows, herons, crabs and more. We also ate many meals at the lobster shack right on the water (2 minute drive), where the view was amazing. We also walked to the sandy beach which was about a 5-10m walk.
Overall these are some of the most attentive and kind hosts we've experienced, and they definitely go out of their way to make sure you're comfortable.

This cottage was such a welcoming and beautiful spot for our family of four to vacation for the week. The view from the water is amazing and our children loved exploring the rocky shore during low tide. It felt so luxurious to have our own private tennis court and take a little time each day to play together as a family. This area of Maine in general is unbeatable as far as I’m concerned. Still close to Acadia national park, but off the beaten path where you feel like you’re in your own secret little out of the way part of the world. With gorgeous views and delicious restaurants dotting the landscape, we thoroughly enjoyed our time on the Blue Hill peninsula. Tinder Hearth woodfired pizzas was a highlight as well as Bagaduce Lunch. Deer Isle was also a hidden gem. I really hope we can come back sometime. Mary Anne and Mark were so gracious and take such good care of the property and provided so many little extra touches to the house. If this sounds like it’s up your alley, go for it!

Seasmoke Cottage, and our hosts made for an absolutely perfect family vacation. MaryAnne has anticipated every possible need that vacationers could possibly want. The cottage is immaculately kept, very tastefully decorated; the kitchen is incredibly well stocked, including high quality staples like organic extra virgin olive oil, good quality cooking pots and pans, and more. We like to buy local food and ingredients and cook when we're on vacation, and Seasmoke Cottage's kitchen was well-equipped for our needs. The location is perfect, and our hosts were attentive, friendly, and very welcoming. Two of the nicest people. At night we watched the night sky, and saw countless shooting stars. The shore is just a short walk on the property. We would return here again and again. Cheers MaryAnne and Marc! Thank you for a wonderful stay. <3

Amazing cottage, location and host. We had the most relaxing and perfect stay at the cottage. It started over a year ago when I booked the property and Mary Anne answered numerous questions! Every reply was so prompt and thorough. The cottage felt like home the minute we walked through. It is in such a serene setting and being able to look at the bay was just beautiful every morning and evening sunset.
Marianne has thought of everything, including a drawer in the kitchen that has scissors, tape, notebook paper, etc.! The kitchen has everything to make meals with. The fireplace was wonderful and we used it every evening. Every room is spacious and there is so much storage. It was also so clean.
Location is absolutely wonderful because you’re about 45 minutes from Acadia national Park one way and the other way is 45 minutes to explore All the wonderful towns in the blue Hill Peninsula area. Mary Anne even provided a link since she knew we like to hike of local trails. You immediately know when you arrive at the property how much thought and care has gone in to making sure the guest experience is wonderful. You have no idea that you have any other houses around you because of the wonderful landscaping.
This was absolutely one of the best places we have ever stayed and we have traveled all over the world. It’s everything that I was hoping Maine would be.

Great week on the Maine coast!
MaryAnne and Marc were amazing hosts! The Seasmoke cottage was clean and comfy. Our boys had a great time exploring the shoreline. The drive to Acadia(about 50 minutes) was easy. The house is out of town enough to feel peaceful and private, but close enough to make most things convenient. Thanks for making our first trip to Maine an amazing experience!!

Fantastic Cottage, and Hosts
What a beautiful cottage, and such wonderful hosts! Perfectly located just far enough away from the crowded Acadia areas but so very convenient for all your activities. Well appointed cottage with all you’ll need. Lots of activities nearby but make sure you get back to the cottage every day for the spectacular sunsets! MaryAnne and Marc are wonderful hosts and truly help ensure you have a wonderful stay. Highly recommend!

Great place
The house is gorgeous and extremely well equipped. The owners, who live next door on this private street, were great. We saw them the first day where all questions were answered. We never saw them again. This place looked brand news and everything was top quality. Highly recommend.

Beautiful place!
We had a lovely time at Seasmoke Cottage. What a cute little place! It was well stocked and the owner was super helpful. The cottage was right next to Morgan Bay which was so fun for our 2 kids to play in daily. The sunsets there were gorgeous. It is about 40 minutes from Acadia National Park which was perfect for us. It was the perfect place for us to relax after a long day of hiking at the park.

Great house in surry!
We had a wonderful week at the Seasmoke cottage in Surry! The Owners, MaryAnne and Marc, could not have been nicer or more accommodating. It was the perfect base camp for enjoying the waterfront, playing tennis, and making day trip hikes to Acadia. The house was amazingly clean and was stocked with everything we needed to cook throughout the week. My husband and I unexpectedly had to work for some of the week so I can also personally vouch for the high-speed wifi - it worked great! We can't wait to make another trip to Maine and stay at this cottage again!

Tennis and more
Fantastic experience with our wonderful hosts Marc and MaryAnne Mytar. We loved the setting, the privacy, and the ease of playing tennis, riding a bike or sitting bayside watching the sun set. Exceptional attention to detail by our hosts. Will book again without hesitation!!

Wonderful experience
Our stay in Seasmoke was delightful! Our communication with MaryAnne was great from the beginning. Back in May, I found the cottage on VRBO and it was fully booked. I reached out to MaryAnne and asked her to contact me if she had any last minute cancellations, and she did (due to covid)! The cottage itself was very clean and well-equipped. It is so cute, light and airy! The living room has plenty of comfy seating and the kitchen was easy to cook in (and the charcoal grill outside was great!). The upstairs was perfect for our kids, ages 6 and 11.
As for activities, we just didn’t have enough time for it all! Tennis is right outside the front door, we played once or twice a day. The clay court is meticulously maintained. We rented kayaks for the Morgan Bay Area, just a short walk to the water from the cottage (Acadia Watersports delivered tandem sea kayaks and vests and paddles right to the cottage). Our kids loved exploring the tide pools that result each day from the 12-foot tides (Note, we planned our kayaking on these drastic tides, very cool!). We even brought our lunch one day out to the Adirondack chairs with the bay view. Acadia is within an hour drive - we went 4 times and we enjoyed the bike rides along the carriage roads and the hikes throughout. We were worried about crowds and covid but people were very respectful and it was easy to find trails with limited people.
The wireless internet worked well. There is a tv but we didn’t even turn it on once. The owners keep a great selection of adult and children’s games and books at the cottage. We brought all of our food, but got some takeout from Perry’s once - it was delicious and reasonably priced (and very close). The on demand hot water worked VERY well.
Thanks to the owners for a great stay!

A beautiful escape with all the comforts of home.
Our family enjoyed a relaxing and memorable stay at Sea Smoke Cottage in Surry. The wonderful owners went above and beyond to help our family enjoy our vacation in Maine. The cottage is located in a beautiful spot close to both a private area on the bay perfect for kayaking, watching sunsets, and it is also in walking distance to the Town's swimming beach. The kitchen is well equipped and there are many games, puzzles and books to enjoy during your stay. The clay tennis court was a perfect place to help our children foster a love for tennis. The cottage is also in a beautiful, peaceful location yet an easy drive to many great beaches and trails.
We look forward to returning in the future!

Seasmoke coziness
My first impression of Seasmoke was that it was without a doubt the cleanest rental we have ever stayed in. MaryAnne and Marc were also incredibly helpful, wonderful hosts. They were immediately responsive to any questions we had, including helping us with navigating nearby Acadia. The surrounding area is so gorgeous - our young kids especially enjoyed exploring the tide pools right outside, and we could walk to the wonderful, private -feeling beach as well. The owners' residence is very close but we never felt a lack of privacy, and were only aware of their home when we walked to and from our car. We loved driving to nearby beauty yet having the option to stay near the house. The grill on the deck was wonderful, as well as all the amazing kids books and toys (including beach toys!). One thing I wished for was a bathroom upstairs where we slept - but that was not a major issue.

Perfect cottage for exploring Down East Maine
My husband, college-bound daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Seasmoke Cottage. We filled our week exploring the Blue Hill Peninsula and Acadia. We also loved watching the changing tide from the Adirondack chairs, swimming at the beach, and eating at the lobster shack and ice cream shop. We didn’t play tennis because it was just too hot (we were thankful for the AC), but the court is beautiful. The cottage is comfortable and spotless. The kitchen is very well-stocked. The hosts are responsive, friendly and respectful of privacy. We hope to stay here again soon!

Quiet, peaceful beauty
We based in Seasmoke Cottage for a week and made several day trips to Acadia, Bar Harbor, Stonington, etc. It’s the perfect location and returning to a relaxing sunset on the bay was a great end to our days. Clean, well stocked, cozy, very nice owners...we would definitely recommend it.

My family and I really enjoyed ourselves at this cottage. The cottage was beautiful and our own view of the bay was gorgeous. Wonderful family stay at Seasmoke Cottagd
Our family had a great vacation at the cottage. Mary Anne greeted us when we arrived and made sure we had everything we needed, including adding an Adirondack chair to enjoy the sunset over Morgan Bay. The kitchen was stocked with pantry staples. The bed and bath linens were high quality and plentiful and the beds and living area are very comfortable. Perry’s Lobster Shack is delightful, with delicious food and an amazing view. Pugnuts Ice Cream in Surry was an unexpected bonus, and even had a vegan ice cream for our son. Highly recommended!

Perfect in every way!
What an amazing week we just had at Seasmoke Cottage with MaryAnne and Marc as our hosts. I don't know where to begin--there are so many wonderful things to say. The cottage is beautiful, spotless, and fully appointed with everything you could think of...and more. From detergent for the washing machine, to foils and ziploc bags, to a fully-stocked kitchen (including spices, sugar, vinegars, hot sauce!), to a first aid kit in the bathroom, to plenty of beach towels, chairs and toys, to a cooler to take with you to the beach, they have provided everything! The house is extremely family-friendly, with many board games and about 100 kids' and teens' books upstairs (which is a perfect area for the kids to sleep, with two separate sleeping areas--two twin beds and one queen). It was perfect for our family. Although the cottage has high-speed internet and satellite TV, we enjoyed unplugging by playing Battleship and Apples to Apples on several nights, working on a puzzle, as well as reading books.
Although the cottage is incredibly cozy and comfortable, the fact that you have access to your own private section of waterfront was the highlight of our stay. We loved walking the beautiful, short winding path from the cottage to the water's edge and spending hours marveling at the 11 foot change in tides and hunting along the shoreline for treasures that could be found in the resulting tidal pools. We were down at the shore at least twice a day for hours, and it brought us such joy to see our 12-year-old and 9-year-old delighting in spotting sea treasures (snails, claims, crabs, and more) each day. We also loved sitting on the rocks, watching for bald eagles (we saw two!), porpoises, seals, loons and more. Finally, we rented kayaks from the nearby Activity Shop in Blue Hill which delivered sea kayaks right to the cottage, and we loved exploring the bay that way as well.
MaryAnne and Marc were incredibly thoughtful and kind throughout our stay, offering recommendations for places to take the kids and more. The check-in and check-out process was effortless.
I could write so much more, but needless to say, this was truly an extraordinary week. The next time we come to Maine, we won't stay anywhere else. Thank you so much MaryAnne and Marc for your incredible hospitality!

Just lovely!
Everything was perfect from day one. The grounds are so well cared for, and the cottage itself could not be better, all the comforts you could ask for. Our hosts, MaryAnne and Marc were helpful, friendly and gracious. If we are in the area again, no question where we will stay. Well done!

Great getaway with kids
What a fantastic vacation! We visited the cottage in August with my two daughters, 5 and 6. The cottage was fully stocked with everything we needed to cook meals and to keep entertained. The kids spent hours looking for sea treasure at low tide and my husband and I enjoyed a cocktail as we watched the sun set over the water. We enjoyed the short trip to Acadia where we hiked and swam at Sand Beach. If you are looking for a relaxing family vacation with nature, I highly recommend this property! Thank you MaryAnne!!

Great place!
Our family of four just spent a wonderful week at Seasmoke Cottage. The cottage is spotless and has everything you could hope for in a rental (sheets, towels, washer and dryer, kitchen supplies, etc.) MaryAnne and Marc are welcoming, responsive and knowledgable about the area. We spent our time in Acadia NP, Bar Harbor (40 min drive) and just hanging out Surrey. We searched for shells and stones, swam, rode bikes, played tennis and watched the water & wildlife. Our family had a great time. The area is absolutely stunning. Surrey, Maine and this cottage are special places.

Idyllic!
We loved our stay at Seasmoke Cottage! The location was in the woods, just a few steps away from the bay, where it was fun to watch the wildlife, experience the change of the tides, hang out in the adirondack chairs with a drink and watch the sunset, and paddle around in rented kayaks. MaryAnn and Marc were thoughtful and friendly hosts, very easy to work with; and who had the place stocked with everything that we needed. We would return in a heartbeat!
