If you enjoy quiet stays away from all the traffic, congestion, and noise then you will love this place like we did. Beautiful, extremely well appointed, home with fire pit, nice shoreline, and away from light noise of near by towns so that you are able to see an amazing array of stars and on a good night the Milky Way. House is so well stocked with all you need and all the things you didn’t know you needed. We couldn’t have asked for better and can not wait to stay here again.

Loved the house and location. Everything we needed was there. Fun for all ages. Cannot imagine better home base than Rhumbline

This was a beautiful home on beautiful property, which had many amenities. We loved the nautical theme throughout the house. It really captures the essence of Maine! We would definitely recommend this house to others.

If you are looking for a place to stay that reminds you why screen time isn't all its cracked up to be, this is your place. The owners (who were very attentive) did a great job of making their place a summer retreat. There is a gazebo that provides a shady place to read, a hammock to take a nap in, a fire pit where you can make smores and the game of bags, a pool table and air hockey for some friendly competition. Not to mention the stairs down to the beach where you can walk along the shoreline - all things we did, BTW. (that is not to say they aren't set up for TV watching if you want, but we never got around to that!). The setting is also ideal. Quite and secluded but not far from Ellsworth for groceries and restaurants and minutes from wonderful hiking trails. We went to Acadia and hiked as well, but honestly loved the local hikes more. The house had everything we needed including 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms so there was plenty of room to spread out. I would highly recommend a stay!

We had such a wonderful time staying at Rhumb Line. Everything you could possibly need is here. Just show up with some clothes and you'll be good to go. And you won't even need that many clothes because there's a washer and dryer. The house is beautifully maintained, and the property is as well. I promise you'll be satisfied with your stay here. Impossible not to be.

What a magical place not far from Acadia. Shoreline was beautiful, lots of outdoor fun to be had. House was well stocked. Zero complaints!

We had a wonderful time but were so busy hiking and
enjoying Acadia and Bar Harbor we didn't get to fully
enjoy the house. It is a beautiful home with 2 full master
suites with their own bathrooms as well as another room
with bunkbeds and a private bathroom. The kitchen was
well supplied, the couches were very comfortable after long days of hiking. There is also a fantastic basement
well furnished with games and a large TV--but we never
got down there.
The location was private and quiet but very convenient with good dining options in Ellsworth (15 min) and about 45 min drive to Acadia.
Good internet, back up generator (here during the Hurricane), and very responsive host and caretaker.
We highly recommend this property and hope to return!

This is a lovely, well-maintained and thoughtfully furnished property. The kitchen is extensively equipped for those who are so inclined, the beds are quite comfortable and the bathrooms tastefully laid out and supplied. The location for us was perfect, as we have friends and "go-to" places in East Blue Hill, Brooklin and Stonington, and of course, a quick drive to Pugnuts Ice Cream Shop is ideal. We spent most mornings enjoying coffee on the deck watching the adult and juvenile bald eagles, some of which roosted and vocalized in plain view in the trees right behind the house.
Two noncritical issues about the house: First, although the stairs to the beach are well-built, the climb is long and steep, and the few muddy spots were slippery- an issue for those (such as myself) for whom a slip or fall could be problematic. Second, there was a clear odor of sulfur in the tap water, indicating the presence of sulfur-reducing bacteria (not harmful!), likely in the well from all the rain this summer. Importantly, when contacted about this, the agent (Cheri) responded immediately and contacted the owners.

As in ALL the other reviews, EVERYTHING about Rhumb Line is exquisite, extraordinary, and just perfect in every single way. I always like to start with cleanliness since the lack of has been a big reason why we don't travel a lot. This place is METICULOUSLY CLEAN! You will feel as if you walked through your own front door when you arrive. It immediately felt like home <3 We are a family of 4 with 2 BIG boys (17 & 22) and we all had plenty of room to stretch out. The house is incredibly well appointed. Cooking supplies, cleaning supplies, towels/linens. We literally only had to bring the steak and lobstah...everything else needed to prepare a gourmet meal is there (pots, utensils, spices, you name it).

This was our 2nd visit to Rhumbline. We had everything we needed for our week in Maine. The house was comfortable and had things to do even if you didn't leave the property. The drive to Bar Harbor/Acadia from the house wasn't bad at all. Very happy with our stay!

The Rhumbline did not disappoint. Every need was anticipated. Our group of 6 was very comfortable and we had plenty of space to spread out and come together. We enjoyed cooking inside and grilling. The bay is wonderful! And we loved the “points of interest” binders.

Our family loved the secluded, quiet location. The abundance of beds was a plus and our teens loved the downstairs

Our family of 6 came from three states to reconnect, get refreshed, shop, and enjoy nature. The house was a perfect fit. All of had comfortable bedrooms with our own baths. We had lots of space. And we truly enjoyed the trip down to the bay each morning to see how things changed overnight.
We had a fuse go out and the property caretaker came right out. This level of care was evident throughout the property.
We chose this home because of it’s location near Acadia. We didn’t know about the other quaint towns nearby.
Overall, we all agreed that this was a great house for a vacation. We all took away cherished memories.

Fantastic accommodations! Loved having a king bed on the 1st floor for family who couldn't climb too many stairs. The house is in close proximity to many Maine coastal sites, the very popular places as well as the those that are more off the beaten trail! We would not hesitate to stay here again.

This was our 3rd year staying in this beautiful and fully equipped home. All you need to bring is your food and a sense of adventure and you’ll have a wonderful vacation. I was thrilled just to stay in the home with my grand babies. Unfortunately the house is now too small for our growing family but we have thoroughly enjoyed our stays over the years.

The house is well stocked and beautifully decorated. Very welcome and homy. The game room in the basement is inviting for both adults and kids. It is surrounded by woods and yet next to ocean. Perfect! We took a couple of trips to Arcadia and also visited Fort Knox (about 30min). Everyone had a great time! Highly recommend!!!

This rental had everything we desired for our family’s trip to Maine. The kitchen was fully stocked with what was needed to prepare our meals. The basement, backyard, & bay provided lots of activities to pass our time while at the house. Lots of wildlife, including regular checking by the hummingbirds.

This property was a great value....It was good size, clean, and well furnished in a quite area away from neighbors. Each bedroom had a full bath and housed two families with kids very comfortably. Had a nice basement with games, brackish water in the back where my son caught green crabs and starfish, and a deck to sit and have coffee in the morning and a frosty beverage in the evening. It was close to a smaller beach and town for supplies. Host was super easy to work with and thoughtful as they even left a gift for us. Only downside, was it was a bit of drive to BarHarbor area 40 plus mins or so which we did a few times. Overall total homerun and wouldn't have any reservations in sending people over.

Everything was perfect—from the location to how well is was stocked. The location was in the middle of everything we wanted to do. There was not one thing missing in how well it was equipped for rental people. Lots of space for our family of 8. Water views and walking down to the water was exceptional. Loved our experience !!!

Beautiful Shore
Shoreline is much nicer than it looks in pictures. I love the tide. Plenty of starfish and crabs to look at.

Peaceful
My family and I really enjoyed our stay. The check in process was one of the smoothest, most hassle free I’ve ever experienced. The house was very clean and the yard very peaceful and private. As others have said, the beds were very comfortable, but have to agree that the sheets in the master bedroom need to be replaced as they will not stay on. I have adult children so was thankful for the game room in the basement. After a long day of hiking, we could relax outside in one of the many Adirondack chairs while they stayed entertained. If not for wanting to see and do so many things while in the area, I could have been happy sitting in the gazebo and reading a book all day. Very peaceful.

Nicest vacation rental we've ever stayed in.
So many eagles and Loons! Everyday we saw eagles close by while enjoying coffee on the deck.
Very well equipped in kitchen and plenty of nice bath towels.
Felt right at home without having too many personal items around. Fantastic location close to Perry's Lobster Shack where we had some of the best lobster, crab, mussels ever. The gravel driveway had some ruts due to very heavy rain that occurred around our arrival so you may want to consider that in the choice of vehicle. Would be happy to go back again and we didn't want to leave when our week was over.

Lovely stay in the Rhumbline house in Surry
My wife and I had a wonderful time in the Rumbline house exploring all the regional attractions in costal Maine. The house seemed much larger on the inside than it appears on the outside. We wouldn't hesitate to rent it again.

The house is beautiful and well maintained. The pictures online are good but the reality much better. Above and beyond what we expected. We had a great trip. We hope to return again. Comfortable beds, kitchen had everything you need. Bathrooms clean and spacious. The outdoor spaces did not disappoint beautiful views nice gazebo and fire pit.

Maine firstimers-Idyllic week
This was our first visit to Maine and the house exceeded expectations. Fully stocked with anything we needed to use- loved the vacation mugs and all the lobster dish ware. It was unseasonably warm so the portable AC units were a plus.
Thanks to the Activity shop in Blue Hill for delivering and getting the kayaks and paddle board down to the beach. The walk is steep but for 4 average adults it was not a problem.. Note — just monitor tides if you want to access the beach area. High tide is up to the trees but goes out quickly.
Day trips to Acadia and Bar Harbor only 45 min. Ellsworth and Blue Hill have the closest grocery stores.
The house has great TV and wifi.
Enjoyed the gazebo, the fire pit and the hammock!
Would love to return!

Our second year vacationing here and just as perfect as the first time.
This vacation home is utterly perfect! The house has everything you could need from a margarita mixer to a curling iron. Pool table, air hockey and corn hole gave us lots of fun and happy moments. The house is Impeccably clean and bright, bright and peaceful. Last year we were able to dig up oysters for our dinner at the base of the property, but unfortunately weren’t as lucky this year. Well, there’s always next year! Our family is already talking about next years vacation here! We love it here. Thank you for providing a beautiful sanctuary to thoroughly enjoy our Maine vacation.

The perfect getaway!
We came to Maine for relaxation and to hike Acadia. This house was perfect for our two families of 4. The kids loved the air hockey table and pool. We went paddle boarding multiple times while there. We also spent time looking for crabs and starfish. The setting was perfect for cooking in, playing games, and enjoying the scenery. We drove to Acadia almost daily, and while it was about 45 minutes from the house, we wouldn’t have traded it for the amazing house. Stay here, you won’t be disappointed.

Week from Heaven!
We enjoyed this beautiful, tastefully decorated, well-equipped home! The location is perfect - close enough to easily access all Acadia National Park has to offer, but far enough away to be out of the crowds and enjoy the peace and quiet. The views were gorgeous! Cannot recommend this gem enough!

What a great place to stay!
We absolutely loved our stay at Rhumbline and can’t wait for our next trip! It’s a great quiet location but close enough to everything we wanted to do while we stayed in ME. The house had everything we needed and then some. We spent our nights in the finished basement “puzzling” and our days taking trips out to various local locations. A steep walk down to the shoreline from the house but what a great view when you get there. Saw a bald eagle diving for fish one evening at dusk. So amazing!

A slice of heaven
What a wonderful property. Our time there was incredible!! The house very well appointed from the kitchen to the bedrooms and beautifully decorated. The owners were very responsive. There is plenty of room. We went with my daughter and her family and there was plenty of room for the seven of us. My three grandson enjoyed the air hockey table and pool table and now want Grandma and Grandpa to buy them an air hockey table for Christmas. The view off the deck in the morning was spectacular. The trail down to the bay is a little tricky but once you are down there is is beautiful. The kids went swimming (to cold for Grandpa). The home is a prefect jumping off point to enjoy Acadia and Bar Harbor about a 30-40 minute drive depending on traffic. Enjoyed the antique shops in Ellsworth which is the town closest to Surry were you will also find the grocery stores along with Perry's Lobster Shack which is a short 5 minute drive from the house. I would definitely recommend and look forward to staying here again.

Interior of house was surprisingly larger than the online photos show. Very comfortable and clean. Family enjoyed the oceanfront views and the use of the fire pit.
