Unfortunately, the cleanliness and upkeep of this historic home was not good. My husband and I spent 5 hours cleaning the day we arrived in town. The kitchen floors were sticky, all of the dishes needed to be washed, and the cupboards had dried splatters and stains all over them. The bathrooms all needed to be scrubbed, there were used bars of soap in the showers, and one of the toilets did not flush unless you took the tank lid off and pushed the float down. All of the bedding needed to be stripped and washed and the washing machine faulted out on the second load of wash.
We made the choice to do the cleaning ourselves and stay because we were in town for our daughter’s wedding and didn’t have time to look for another house big enough to hold our extended family.
Also, most of the outdoor furniture was in disrepair and couldn’t be trusted to be sat on. None of the cushions for the outdoor furniture were in good shape.
The communication for check-in/check-out was very easy. The house was otherwise very interesting and had a great deal of charm and history. It was the right size for our family and the location was perfect. We don’t regret our stay, but we would not stay again without a lot of improvements.

It was a big house with plenty of room for everyone.

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay! We enjoyed the charm of this house with all its quirks. Not a perfect house, but a very comfortable stay, with a different theme in each bedroom.

My Mother turned 80 this past weekend, and we celebrated as a family at the Teel House. When I was looking for a place for our family to come together I needed a central location for our family who is spread out over three states. We had 10 people ages ranging from young teen to mostly adults, and we wanted to cook family meals and have some fun activities. The Teel house provides ample space for spreading out, the kitchen is well appointed for cooking meals. As a family of history lovers, we loved all the period furniture and Victorian decor. It's almost like renting a B&B, and having it to yourself. We loved exploring all the nooks and crannies of the house, and enjoyed walking the neighborhood. Communication was excellent with the booking, check-in and check out. I dealt with two representatives of the property, one for booking and one for the stay, both were great! Gregg the property manager was really nice to work with and even let our niece purchase a small item for her bedroom from the house. Thanks so much! The only thing I would mention to potential renters is to remember that this house was built in the late 1700's and has it's own quirks and age (like the rest of us). The bedrooms, while beautifully decorated could use a couple new mattresses, and hopefully in the future this investment could be an asset to the rental. We were only there two nights so it was fine. Overall it was the perfect house for a celebration and only enhanced our time together.

Great place to stay, location fit our needs perfectly. Plenty of parking spaces. Fully well-equipped kitchen. Great neighborhood felt very safe there. the only thing was a couple of the bedroom the heat wasn't the best but no big deal. House is filled with so much history and beautiful antiques. Greg the caretaker was awesome to work with and was so accommodating. Couldn't ask for anything better.

Throughly enjoyed our stay at Teel House. The home is large enough for big groups with 3 full baths & one half. You’ll have plenty of room for all guests to enjoy meals & play family games. There was ample space in the kitchen too cook meals along with all basic cookware. Location is great in Norwich close to downtown, Mohegan Sun & a short drive to scenic areas such as Mystic.

Our Christmas week at The Teel was picture perfect. The home was decorated for the holiday which added to the ambiance. The home was fully stocked and ready for celebrating. Checking in and out was easy and there were no issues. The historic home itself lended to added intrigue and all of our family and friends enjoyed touring the beautifully decorated rooms along with the holiday celebrations. Communication between the manager and owner prior to our stay as well as after was wonderful. We would definitely love to return to The Teel.

Was a great way to get all of us under the same roof. Great place!

The house is extremely charming with beautiful decor and something new to see every time you walk into a room. The property manager was friendly and easy to communicate with, he even gave us a later checkout time. The only downside to the property was that it wasn’t in the best condition regarding cleanliness. The bathrooms weren’t clean upon our arrival, and the floors throughout could be much cleaner. If you are able to look past the cleanliness in order to stay in such a historical, spacious home then this is the place for you! We would consider visiting again so long as the space is clean in a way that honors the house as it should. Overall, this was a great experience!

The cleanliness of this place was below 0, the owner was rude and I’m never booking with vrbo again.

A-MAZING!
Wow, just wow. The Teel House was such an incredible house in a beautiful neighborhood. We enjoyed the history and decor. And Gregg, our property was incredibly attentive throughout the whole weekend. The house was clean upon our arrival and well stocked.

Volleyball End Of Season
A bunch of families stayed at the Teel while at our final volleyball tournament at Mohegan Sun. The property exceeded our expectations. There were plenty of bedrooms for the adults, and the kids stayed in the ballroom and had a blast. The kitchen met our needs, the outdoor den was a great place to wrap up the day, and there were plenty of bathrooms for all. We were impressed with how stocked the house was with linens and towels and cooking and cleaning supplies. The property manager answered all our questions. Check in and check out were a breeze. I would definitely stay there again!

Teel House
This is an old and historic property. The cost was more than reasonable allowing one to overlook any weakness. It served its purpose of providing sleeping quarters for 10 family members, plenty of space for a lunch buffet for 60 people and gathering place for 30 over the weekend. It was more than adequate and stocked with everything needed to pull this off. The heating system worked fine on the first and second floors which serve as living quarters. The game room and ball room are on the third floor. There is ample parking and yard space.
In town visitors had a chance to satisfy their curiosity of this community landmark. We would use this place again.

Great location. Stately house. Needs care
Fun place. Pretty worn out though. Peeling wallpaper, dirty carpets. Good kitchen though. Non functioning smoke detectors (illegal!) some broken furniture. People who like new and modern should avoid.

Beautifully spacious
The property was fantastic. The house had more space than we thought. Our group of ten slept comfortably in the elegant rooms. The gathering spaces accommodates all of us with with room for more. Being so close to the store made shopping easy. This is an old home that heats well; just locate the digital thermostat before bed time. I am sure I rent this home again or at least suggest it to friends as ne family.

Teel House is both elegant and comfortable.
I never write reviews for anything, but I am making an exception for Teel House as a rental property because it was exceptional. I rented it to have an event in the ballroom, and to have a place for my out-of-town guests to stay, and Teel House was absolutely ideal. My guests raved about their stay, and the elegance and beauty of the place made everyone feel pampered. It was comfortable, convenient, and well appointed. The kitchen was spacious and well equipped. And the ballroom was the perfect place for my party; everyone who attended was impressed by the site. It was a special event, and the elegant, beautiful setting enhanced the evening. Teel House recommended itself to everyone who attended, and I would recommend it to any friend who was looking for a place to stay or a place to hold an event.

Large and beautiful property!
The house is georgious and well furnished, the garden is beautiful, overall this is a very nice play to stay. Only concerns: the beds are very soft mattress, probably too old. And the kitchen has mises.... never let found outside of the closet!

amazing weekend in norwich connecticut
had never done anything like this before and was pleasantly surprised how well it went and how easy it was. house details were provided in a timely fashion and all my questions were answered. The home itself was magnificent and my family was able to all come together under one roof to celebrate. Would do this again without hesitation.

Amazing property!
This house is amazing! there are plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for everyone, and enough living space that you are never on top of one another. We recently rented this home for a business trip and stayed here with the owners of a few other businesses. We could eat together at the huge dining room table, but could go off on our own and have private space to work. this old house is beautiful inside and has everything you need. It is only about 20 minutes to the casino and only a few minutes to restaurants and shopping. We will stay here again!!!

Charming historic experience
This house is an experience not just a vacation home. The property's history and location are the best part of the experience. My family and I found it very interesting and enjoyable.

Great character!
Awesome place to celebrate my sons 21st Birthday with the family. Only 10-15 minutes from either casino. Even had a parade right outside the house as an added bonus. The only issue was the double beds were small for two grown adults. The rooms were big enough that they could have put queen beds in them.

Loved it!
The Teel House is beautiful! We had our wedding here and it was amazing. Being able to have guests and some help stay onsite with us was a blessing. The ballroom floor definitely needs some TLC, but that didn't take away from our day.

Very cool historic home!
There is lots and lots of room, everyone you look there are interesting architectural details. The only negatives we experienced was the difficulty of cooling the house down, despite all of the box fans, and the shower water taking a bit of time to warm up. I would love to see the house again once more renovations are made.

INTERESTING STAY
The house had a lot of wonderful things. Lots of room for all to enjoy. We were there with a group of Girl Scouts and we did use the BALL ROOM to have a great time. Yes it is a work in progress.
The location was good very easy to get to the highways for day trips etc.
Some of the downside was the way things were prepared for our stay. No towels were out, no hand soap in any of the bathrooms, extra toilet paper. The rugs were dirty to say the least, ball room had not been touched for awhile! When this was brought up to the owner was told you are renting a house not staying in a hotel!! The BIGGEST problem were the little ants in the kitchen they got into our food for which we had to toss it out. Yes the owner to refund us some money towards the food.
Wish the owner good luck with her place.

A lovely Estate Home
We loved the Teel House. It is a lovely historic home with all of the charm one would expect of a New England Estate. We were pleasantly surprised to find that despite the age of the building there was NO mold or mildew. The home is beautifully furnished with antiques from the region and the rooms are large and bright. The kitchen has been recently remodeled with modern appliances. The home is outfitted with a dining room table that seats at least 12. The back porch was lovely and we enjoyed both morning coffee and evening cocktails together on the porch. The bedrooms were large and airy, and the beds were comfortable. Having 3 bathrooms in an old home like this was a great surprise. We really enjoyed our stay.
The only reason we didn't give it a 5 was because the cleaning staff did not do a great job preparing the home for our arrival. While the renovations are not complete, we did not find that to be an issue at all, and are looking forward to visiting in the future to see the evolution of the remodel. Also note, this home is not handicap accessible. As with most homes this age, there are steps at both the front and back entrance and no bedrooms on the first floor.
If you are looking for a modern home, this is not the house for you, but if you understand that homes of this era have their own special charm, you will love this place. We do!

Big house with plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms (although one of the four bathrooms listed was unusable which was a bit disappointing and a challenge). Some of the furniture needs a little upkeep, but the house worked out well for our needs and the owner was very good to work with on all matters. Nice central location.

My co-workers and I stayed at the Teel House for our girls wine tasting weekend. The house is definitely aged but it gives it great character. The location is perfectly placed and the yard with a tree swing was just and added bonus! Not to mention the affordable price! Definitely recommend!!!!! We are already planning a trip back for next year!!!!
4.0
Teel house is beautiful. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you might need, and the local contact was responsive. Plenty of room in the dining room, and the pool table was a lot of fun. It is conveniently located near the Norwich Spa and the Casinos. The historical house needs some updating though, and the carpeting and old bathrooms triggered a mold allergy in two of our party.
