About this villa rental
Villa "Bolthole"
At the top of the small, densely overgrown rocky peninsula right by the sea is the family-friendly wooden house in colonial style. All around lush, tropical green. Palm trees, mangoes, oranges and papayas sway in the wind.
Nothing disturbs the view of the Caribbean sea. It changes color as quickly as the clouds move over the coast. When darkening, the water turns gray or olive, but shines the sun, it shimmers azure or turquoise blue, as in the holiday brochure. The waves break rustling on the flat reef and then roll gently to the shore. This unique spectacle is experienced by anyone sitting on the terrace of Bolthole, a first-class box seat.
Feel good, let go and immerse yourself in the Caribbean holiday world begins with a warm welcome from our employees. A team of four looks after the well-being of guests and the care of the house and garden all year round - a garden to discover, framed by the magical backdrop of the rushing sea, which is constantly changing in color and wild beauty.
The house itself, with its white-painted wooden construction, fits in ideally with the natural surroundings. The bright rooms are all very spacious and the bedrooms each have their own bathroom. A tried and tested ventilation device ensures fresh air at all times; no air conditioning is necessary in this house. Fans on the ceiling of the rooms also provide pleasant cooling. The stylish interior is adapted to the simple architecture and yet Bolthole is a first-class and luxurious accommodation in the abundance of its properties and equipment.
The showpiece outside the house is the covered veranda with the sea water pool and the undisturbed view of the open sea. Here or on the adjoining seats and loungers, life takes place from breakfast to dinner by candlelight in the mild Caribbean air. The private bathing / boat dock and sandy beach is protected from the high waves by the reef. With the kayak they row together with their snorkeling friends inside or outside the reef.
In addition to the "Bolthole" villa, there is a cozy cottage built and furnished in the same style on the large estate. 2 bedrooms with private bathrooms, living / dining room and a covered veranda can comfortably accommodate 4 people. The first morning coffee or afternoon tea can be prepared in the small kitchen.
The cottage (apartment no. 2870188) can be rented together with the villa or separately; it is equally suitable for short and long vacations.

Our stay was nothing less than exceptional. Joe was our chef and everything we ate was so delicious. The aesthetic of the house is vintage and definitely embodies the island vibe. The view and the grounds at the house were so beautiful. Definitely coming back here very soon!

We stayed at the Villa for our wedding in Port Antonio. Centrally located to the town centre. Very secluded and quiet with plenty of space so unlike a hotel you do not feel enclosed.

The stay at this Villa was perfect. The saltwater pool, the dock, the small beaches, the daily visit from a baby sting ray and the amazing staff all made our stay great. We had family members ranging from 6 to 80 staying on property and everyone enjoyed themselves. The best aspect was the staff, they were kind, attentive, kept the place clean and safe and fed us the most amazing food. I'd be thrilled to come back here on my next visit to Portland.

We enjoyed this iconic and spacious oceanfront property that evoked the classic Caribbean homes of the rich and famous. Staff were pleasant and professional. The owner was a delight to deal with.

Our stay was amazing. The dock to the ocean was perfect! We loved snorkeling in the front yard and we’re surprised by how much seaside we were able to see. The pool was great. The rooms are simple but spotless. Would highly recommend this property.

As one review said the pictures don't do this place justify. It was amazing! From the house to the pool, everything was absolutely stunning. The staff, Donna, Calysha(sp), Errol and Dan were great and absolutely made the trip that more enjoyable. This was our 1st time in Jamaica and they were very helpful in every way. Thanks also to the owner for the great recommendation on transportation from and to the airport. Taryl went above and beyond, and waited for us despite a 8hr delay in our flight! We will definitely be back hopefully in a less heat-filled and rainy season though!:)

What an incredible place this is. It is so much more beautiful than we imagined. The location is private and magical. Once you pull into the driveway, you are transported to a secluded oasis of tranquility and beauty. The house itself is tastefully decorated, very clean, and comfortable. The views of the ocean are incredible. You can choose to just lounge about or swim in the pool, swim and snorkel off the dock, visit the small private beach, or explore all of the beautiful parts of the property. The staff is incredibly kind and helpful. The meals that were prepared by Donna are some of the best we've had in a very long time. We are already looking forward to coming back to this magical spot.

The staff was very attentive, welcoming, and great people to be around. My family and I really enjoyed our stay at Bolthole, and would definitely return. Finding the property was rather difficult as it was our first time staying there, so look for the first hidden driveway on the left.

My family and I had a beautiful and enjoyable time here at Bolt Hole. The staff are extremely kind, hospitable, and welcoming. The home cooked authentic Jamaican meals were delicious (especially the breakfast!). The house and garden is extremely well maintained for how big it is. The staff are very thorough in cleaning the entire home. Every morning the staff come in early to clean the leaves from the pool and the property, dust the communal area which is not easy given how big the property is. The wifi is a little spotty but understandable given the location. These accommodations are meant for those who love nature (one thing to note, there isn't AC in the house so it may not be the right fit for those who aren't used to fans and the natural sea breeze to stay cool). The home is carefully tucked away which is great because its so secluded and safe but also may be tough to find when you first arrive. The mosquito nets over the beds didn't work as well as we would have hoped but that's ok. Overall, my family really loved the salt water pool, the relaxing vibe, the property is breathtaking and the staff were really what made the stay special.

Over priced
I booked last minute deciding that the above- average price would be worth it as the villa looked amazing and we really wanted 4 bedrooms. Unfortunately when we arrived we were told we could only access 2 bedrooms (which I was completely unaware of at the time of booking) which made it a very expensive stay. The cook told us what time we could eat rather than giving us a choice of times which was irritating and whilst the meals were tasty, they were not the best. The property is beautiful and the location is great, just a shame it was so expensive

What a lovely villa!
Bolthole is a stunning property in a beautiful location directly on the sea, with its own beach as well as a little jetty for swimming and snorkelling. It offers a good deal of privacy, but it is only a short drive (or walk to Port Antonio).
The property manager, Yvonne, was very responsive and the staff were all charming, helpful and professional. The meals prepared by Donna were delicious!
Bedrooms were all comfortable and the overall ambiance of the place is perfect for a relaxing seaside holiday. All in all, a delightful stay!

Great location, very accommodating!!!
Donna and Yvonne were so friendly and very helpful in anything we needed during the day. Errol was helpful at night. Very clean, beautiful view. The only flaw, we weren't aware we didn't have access to every single room in the villa, but we made it work. Just would've been nice to have a heads up. Other than that, would go back again!!!

The Pictures don’t do it justice!
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The villa is beautiful and there are so many different places on the property to take in all the spectacular views. The staff was kind and accommodating! I would absolutely stay here again. My only critique is that the Wifi was practically nonexistent, causing me to use my data the entire time I was there. Other than that my group and I had no complaints!

Go With The Flow
Bolt Hole Villa is beautiful property with a great staff. We were lucky enough to spend 11 nights here during the current world health crisis. Although we were not able to visit some of the spots we had hoped due to some government imposed health restrictions, we had a great time hanging around the house and enjoying the view. If you are looking to totally unwind and relax, eat delicious home cooked Jamaican food and enjoy some cold Red Stripes, now is the perfect time to visit.

Perfect family retreat on waterside
Absolutely delighted to be here and know we can come back. House is spacious, well designed and comfortable. Had everything we needed. Most of our time was spent on the verandah overlooking the ocean and infinity pool ( salt water). Staff are great, meals well prepared!

Stunning property
Beautifully located, the Bolt Hole is everything you want and more. Breezy, comfy, architecturally inspiring, lush gardens and a friendly efficient staff. Highly recommend this property - pictures cannot do the place any justice. It’s a vacation spot - VIP style. Near to Port Antonio and various attractions. Couldn’t have been happier. We will be back.

A Rare and Perfect Place
Bolt Hole is a very special spot for a vacation or family get-together in Jamaica. The sea and the gardens are blessedly beautiful, the saltwater pool is a joy, the house itself is as comfortable as can be, and all of this is in close proximity to the town of Port Antonio, and to all the the natural wonders of Jamaica's most beautiful parish. Donna, Kareen, Errol, and Daniel give the house its warm, generous soul.

Daniel’s place is fantastic. The salt water pool and ocean front property are truly unique. The house is cool with great details and the service and food were awesome. We hope to bring our family back every year. 5 stars.

Thank you to all who made our stay at the villa wonderful! We really enjoyed getting to know Donna, Kareen, Errol and Dan. The views from the property were gorgeous, and the house was wonderfully kept and clean. We will never forget our fabulous week!

A Dream
We LOVED Bolt Hole. Before we even left, we were already planning our return visit. It is a sanctuary in the midst of stunning beauty. To sit on the deck and watch the day go by, reading, meditating on the water, is a true vacation of relaxation and restoration. The house is beautiful in the pictures, but more so in reality. Donna, Kareen, Danny, Errol--they helped make the experience even more enjoyable. Donna is a very talented cook and she thinks of everything. Kareen keeps everything clean and beautiful. Danny tends the garden and cuts fresh coconuts to drink. Errol arrives in the evening with stories and kindness. The manager, Yvonne, was extremely helpful too, giving us daily tips on excursions that we'd enjoy with teenagers. Among the favorites: A drink at Geejams followed by a tour of the recording studio where my kids played on the piano that Alicia Keyes used to record Girl On Fire; kayaking into Blue Lagoon; a water massage at Somerset Falls; a real massage by Barbara (deep tissue, best we've ever had) beneath a sea grape tree on the Bolt Hole terrace. The trip was a dream, over too fast, but enveloping us still by how restored we feel.

Wonderful
We loved our stay here. The house’s design, setting and location were all terrific. The combination of the pool, dock and beach and ample spots for reading and relaxing were better than I expected, even from the good photos. It worked wonderfully for three of us for the first week and our whole family of seven for the second week.
I am already missing the staff of Donna, Kareen, Daniel and Errol. We also enjoyed our experience of the local political campaign which was, to put it mildly, intense.
The drive through the mountains from Kingston is a real trial, however, making us so glad we were there for two weeks.

Great Family vacation in Port Antonio
We had a relaxing family time in the large and wonderfully decorated home. The house worked really well with each of the 4 bedrooms having their own baths. Our favorite part of the house was the long porch overlooking the lovely saltwater infinity pool and the ocean. We played family games late into the night appreciating the lack of insect life. The water was shallower than expected by the dock area and the small sand beach to the side but a quick taxi ride took us to gorgeous beaches nearby. The location is great with town a short walk away. We were happy to be away from tourist crowds.

Hidden Piece of Paradise
Bolt Hole is truly a hidden piece of paradise. Wonderful home, great staff and beautiful grounds. It's tucked away, hidden from view as you pass by on the main road but so close to everything! We loved our stay and will be back!

Breath taking
I don't know where to start. My wife and I were in Port Antonio, Jamaica with friends over 20 years ago and hoped we could take our adult kids there to experience the same wonderful time we had. The Villa Bolt Hole, was a home run!! The property overlooking the ocean was definitely a piece of paradise. We spent a lot of time in the salt water infinity pool with the breathtaking view of the ocean. The staff was wonderful, We looked forward to the bell Kareen would ring when the outstanding meal Donna had prepared was ready to be served. Dan kept the pool and pool area spotless, and each evening when we would call it a night, we were comforted having Errol there looking after us. The entire staff was incredibly friendly and we truly enjoyed there hospitality. This was truly a vacation to remember and way better than any all inclusive vacation spot. I would recommend the Villa Bolt Hole to anyone who wants to experience the real Jamaica.

Stay here and you will enjoy the true Jamaica!
Let me start off by saying I own a boutique hotel in a beachside town in Northern California and I am very picky about where I stay on vacation. I research and research until I find, what looks like, the perfect place to stay. When I vacation in another country, I like to experience the beauty, culture and local people. I say this because it is important that you know what you like when you go on vacation. I do not do Cruises or All Inclusive Resorts because I find the food is subpar and the environment is staged to be anything but what goes on outside of the walls. If you like to vacation like me, then you will fall in love with Bolt Hole Villa, the team that works there, and the people of Port Antonio/Portland Parish. This is not a very touristy area, really...it is a village where local people live, work and raise their families. But there are some amazing experiences waiting for you if you let the locals guide you, like seeing Reach Falls from the bottom up and rafting down the Rio Grande with two of the funniest and sweetest guides EVER! But the actual villa itself is worth a trip, even if you do none of the local tours! Just step outside the back doors of this amazing home and you could snorkel morning and evening for days and still not see everything on the reef. I felt so lucky to explore the undersea world just outside my door every day. The pool is beautiful and so clever, you'll see, just trust me! The grounds are lovely and I was able to pick fresh flowers and make bouquets for my room and the tables. Sun rises were my favorite, but there is a place to watch sunsets too. There is a small beach that I visited every morning with my coffee and found amazing treasures waiting for me there every day. The house is very spacious and designed to have multiple families and people doing many different things at the same time without being on top of each other. The simplicity of the decor allows the art and local inspiration sitting around the home take hold of you. But the very best part of our experience was Donna, Kareen, Daniel, Errol and Roger, the team that makes the home truly worth every penny. They touched our lives in a special way, a way that they will never know. Our family is forever grateful for meeting and coming to know them and we will never forget them! If you want a life changing experience in Jamaica...this is your place....it is powerful, I promise!

Spacious, comfortable, clean, picturesque, and perfect for our multi-generational family vacation
The property was an excellent choice for our 3 generation family vacation. The bedrooms with their own bathrooms in the villa and cottage provided ample space for our group of 13 to spread out. The grounds are gorgeous and the views are spectacular. We made use of the outdoor seating for our meals and evening gatherings. The salt water pool was a big hit as well as the beach and the pier were enjoyed by all. We cannot say enough about the wonderful smells coming from the kitchen. The meals on the veranda were scrumptious and much appreciated by the group. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. A short walk to the grocery store was handy for purchasing drinks and snacks (with credit card). We also enjoyed our outings to Reach Falls, Frenchman's Cove, Rio Grande Rafting, and to Ocho Rios to tour the Green Grotto Caves and the Dunn's River Falls and beach. Port Antonio is less tourist driven and prefers Jamaican dollars. Ocho Rios and Kingman more readily accepted US dollars. We had pre-arranged for transportation with a mini-bus/van for our entire group which ensured a relaxing vacation without having to worry about driving and directions and a big plus - we were all in one vehicle. A big thank you to the owners, staff, bus driver, tour coordinator, and residents of Jamaica.

Love it
We loved our stay at Bolt Hole. Daniel, the owner, was very easy to work with and super helpful. The house is actually much larger than the photos led us to believe. We were pleasantly surprised. The photos did not do the house justice. The house overall did look and feel like the photos but was better in person. The real gem though is the staff. They were in a word...awesome. And with Donna's cooking I'm not really sure why one would eat out at all. We did eat out but concluded that while we enjoyed our meals out they simply weren't as yummy as what Donna prepped for us back at the house.
Big thumbs up all around.

This villa is most impressive. The landscape is incredibly beautiful, peaceful and private. A huge thank you to the sweetest staff ever -- Errol, Daniel, Kareen, Donna. They made our vacation truly unforgettable.
