Loved the place from the second you arrive , staff were pleasant, professional and knowledgeable.
Food was great and location amazing
Beware of the sat nav taking you down some very narrow roads when heading to hotel
Overall you couldn’t complain about anything, there were some attention to detail bits you could pick the staff up on when ordering food but in no way did it spoil our weekend

Well maintained historic hotel. The grounds are beautiful! Unfortunately we were unlucky with the weather and couldn’t explore the woods much. Rooms are spacious and common areas are very cosy
Pool / spa area was underwhelming (as in most UK hotels sadly). Sauna is in particular need of renovation - wood is all stained and starting to crumble, sand clock not working. Panoramic windows need a clean. Constant mechanical noise from a generator (the one that powers either ventilation or pool filtering; the whirlpool one is separate and even louder but only relevant when someone turns on the whirlpool).
There is zero mobile network connection around the property, plus wifi is rather slow and doesn’t reach all areas of the hotel. Didn’t bother us too much, but worth knowing

Beautiful setting and stunning accomodation
The restaurant was disappointing. The food was ordinary for the facility and we waited an hour for a bottle of wine.

Staff, accommodation, food, the grounds, the activities all excellent
The gym

Wow, just wow. What an amazing destination. The entire property is simply stunning and has something for the entire family or for just a romantic getaway. We cannot wait to return (from Australia, it's on the list) and have a crack at the spectacular golf course. The dining was superb, really top class. The best thing about Bovey Castle, without exception, was the staff. If I could, I would give them 6 stars. Every single person was exception in their endeavours to make our stay memorable, and they certainly succeeded. Bravo, I cannot wait to return.
Ok, this isn't the venues fault ... but Google maps will take you down a back country lane instead of up the main driveway through the golf course. Just be aware that there is a main drive !

Arrival and check in excellent. Restaurant booking leave a bit to be desired.
We planned to walk to the local village for dinner on Saturday evening, but due to the torrential rain had to change our plans on enquiring to eat in the hotel, I was made to feel awkward and embarrassed by the Western Grill manager - who also was rude to the receptionist I was trying to book through. Not a good look for a 5* Hotel !

Very good faciliry
Porters didn'thelp me with my baggage on aeeival and departure. Just chatring among themselves. The porter who took me to thecroom forgot to bring my suitcase to the room and I had to call the receptuon to remind them.

Excellent service, lovely facilities, great environment, superb views
We stayed as a family in a lodge and it was roomy, clean and very comfortable
No telephone signal at any point. Free WiFi in buildings.
4.2
Lovely warm welcome from Cherry
Rooms were spacious and exceptionally clean.
Fantastic meal in The Western Grill
Very good cocktails in the Piano Lounge
Reception staff in the main hotel were a little abrupt
Hated the menus being on the tv's as we were unable to access ours

Service was so so poor for a 5* hotel. It really lets the hotel down.
4.2
The hotel lounge was very beautiful and comfortable, perfect for reading a book or having a cup of tea. The hotel room was very cozy and clean, with everything you need. The breakfast was very good, and the service was excellent. The large garden was well-maintained and a pleasure to walk through.
My only regret is that I couldn't use the pool due to maintenance.
4.2
Beautiful well maintained property, gardens and golf course
Can’t think of any negatives
4.2
Superb property - well appointed and quite luxurious. The grounds are amazing, the rooms large and the beds very comfortable. The falcon display was worthwhile and the entire experience was extremely enjoyable.
There were a few unexpected additional service charges per room. The room had a little water damage down one wall in the bathroom and it’s quite remote from anything else meaning the drive in was down very narrow lanes but otherwise nothing else was a negative and the positives by far outweigh the negatives.

The setting and the building were pretty. First impressions were good. The room was OK, there were damp patches in the bathroom but the room was fine.
This hotel is not offering a 5* service. From the reception staff to the service staff it's all just odd. The service is either overtly formal or over familiar and there is nothing in-between. The have odd rules around breakfast bookings and tables, the breakfast is also substandard and no befitting a 5* offer. Their formal restaurant is closed and the dinner option is brasserie fare which is fine but again not really befitting the setting. We arrived back to the hotel on Saturday night at 11pm and asked for directions to the residents bar for a drink and were told the bar was closed there was also no kitchen/room service which again is ridiculous for a hotel on a Saturday night at that time. The rooms are fine, bit tired, nothing special at all. The rate inclusive of breakfast was £430 a night and I left after 3 nights in a hurry to return home which shouldn't be the case. The pool facilities are ok but they have strange things like coded access to the facilities. It's all just very dated and needs some money spending on it to bring it up to date and standard. It also appears that many of the staff have been shipped in from other locations and I found the service to be useless. When I received my bill at the end of the stay the hotel had added service to everything we had had but had also added a daily service fee on top. When I enquired about this I was told it was for housekeeping. I haven't ever had that added in a hotel before. Housekeeping is and should be included in the room rate. All in all I wouldn't recommend.

The grounds are amazing, even more beautiful
in person.
The food at the only restaurant available (The smith) was expensive, not fresh, almost tasteless. The breakfast was not worth it at all, cold poached eggs on burnt bread. Bfast buffet had dried/stale croissants and tasteless fruit. Which is a shame considering all nearby restaurants are so good, fresh, farm to fork, organic and better quality.
Also at the end of your stay you are charged a discretionary fee of £10 plus service charge when visiting the bar and the bills are not itemized. We got charged an extra £65 of bogus charges. So it’s not worth pre tipping the staff with cash.
Most of the staff gives off a weird vibe in our 4 nights there we only met a nice waiter at dinner who was new and there for just 4 weeks and a nice bar tender once, else the staff were slow and somewhat rude.
For a 5 star hotel with tennis courts etc you would expect 5 star equipment, this is not the case. The tennis rackets are terrible quality and kill the vibe of the game.

Stunning grounds, beautiful rooms. Friendly staff.

We attended a wedding with family who had multiple different needs so self catering was ideal. We would have partaken of your breakfast but felt that it was rather on the steep side for so many of us. Maybe you could offer a cheaper self-catering option for your guests in the Lodges. The Lodges were superb and beautifully decorated and furnished and had all the equipment that we needed. Your staff were amazing and supplied all the extra equipment that was needed
The fact that we just couldn't get your television to work properly and we gave up on it in the end as it became irrelevant to our stay. We would have preferred a paper welcome instruction book especially for the elderly in our group. We could not access it on the television due to the problems with it. We also would have appreciated more information about disability access as my father is disabled and can't work very far. You did supply a parking space outside our Lodge and supplied a golf trolley for the wedding which was most appreciated but had we known just how far the main residence was from the Lodge, and how hilly it was, we would have put my father in the main hotel. He felt very isolated from the hotel either side of the wedding

location and views
bar was fantastic and bar staff were very helpful and attentive
we also stayed for a birthday and were gifted chocolates which was lovely!
the food/restaurant felt below the standard expected for a 5 star hotel. the breakfast in particular stands out as inaccessible for those with dietary requirements - I asked if the vegetarian sausages were vegan and was told the chef didn’t know and couldn’t be bothered to check. I ended up eating just porridge which didn’t feel particularly luxe for a 5 star hotel!

Pleasant staff, beautiful surroundings. Food good quality.
My room was very basic and small. I'm used to luxury when I stay at hotels abroad. Was it because I was single that this room was booked .
4.2
It is a fantastic place with super charming and comfortable rooms
-the wine collection is not 5***** like.
-the bar tables outside were not cleaned regularly. there was often the rests from the people before on the table
-at one door there were a lot of cigarette stubs on the ground (probably from the stuff)
4.2
Setting, property, golf course, pool. Hair products good. Body cream good. Coffee station nespresso very good - more pods always appreciated. Fridge useful.
Service wanting. Restaurant no more than adequate. Staff attitude and performance wanting. Double bed was 2 joining singles with join bar detached and beds sloping to one side. Toilet roll holder lose on one side sloping downwards to the left.

I loved everything about it

Lots of activities, lovely views, nice staff.
The weather!

I can gush on forever about how beautiful this castle (actually manor house) is! The architecture and the decor is simply stunning, and the grounds are immaculate. Our castle room was spacious and beautiful! Dinner was expensive but delicious, and breakfast was perfect.
The expense of any additional activities, but that is to be expected. The children's play area on the grounds were too far away to send them off on their own and there are no benches for parents to sit on while the kids play.
4.2
all of it, it’s a beautiful castle with lovely views of the grounds
I’m a very fussy eater and the food for me was limiting and online the sample menu for the restaurant is different to what’s offered

The welcome was friendly and the staff couldnt have done more to be helpful. The evening food was superb. The grounds were beautiful and the map of the area to enable us to enjoy a walk was very helpful.
Unfortunately, One member of staff at breakfast which we believe was the breakfast manager was very rude , unwelcoming and made us feel uncomfortable. Halfway through breakfast, there was no fruit or cold meats left with another hour to go. We were told it would not be refreshed.
