The view was amazing. Our room was large and comfortable.
The decor was a bit old-fashioned for my taste but it was nice.

Beautiful location with a very quant hotel. Lovely friendly staff, the breakfast was great and just about kept us going all day.
The weather which is the only thing you can't organise

The area it self was beautiful and the hotel surrounding where stunning well kept gardens
The bed was so uncomfortable we both woke up with backaches. The room smelt of musty and old . It just felt very dated . It’s a smell we couldn’t get rid of , even the bed and bedding smelt musty . very disappointed considering how much we paid for the room .

Perfect location with an incredible lakeside view, the start of the 3rd highest mountain Helvellyn within a few minutes walk. Simply beautiful walks surround this property. The place is quintessential and the room was clean, cosy, warm and ideal with everything you need. The food is excellent, with a friendly bar available in the evening. We would like to thank this family run business who couldn’t have done anything more to help us have the best stay.
Nothing we loved it.

Excellent location and nicely maintained property
Internet connection/WiFi was very weak. No connection on phones at all

Great room. All the facilities necessary for a comfortable stay. Spotless bathroom. Excellent breakfast. But the view overlooking Thirlmere is the hotel's strong point.
Nothing.

We thought we were booking into a good quality hotel but instead discovered it was more like a glorified B&B.
There was no real welcome on arrival. It wasn't clear how to get in. There was no obvious foyer or reception area. You have to enter by what feels like a side door, then go through to the lounge and press a button on the wall to get attention.
The bathroom in one of the rooms we booked was not cleaned properly. There were hairs on the floor, in the sink, bath, shower and on one of the towels. We complained and the cleaner returned to clean it again. However, there were still hairs all over the place and it had to be cleaned once more. The carpet was old and dirty.
In the second bedroom the radiator did not seem to be working. The windows didn't open. The decor was poor. I was told this was deliberately "shabby chic". Shabby it certainly was, but by no means chic.

Lovely view of lake. Friendly hosts and nice breakfast
Location a little out of the way. Bedroom great but bathroom wasn't to same standard. Bathroom was also cold

Given the price, my expectations were limited, but the staff were lovely and friendly. The building is very old so has some the quirks that come with being almost 600 years old. It was really interesting to explore some of the history. The view and the grounds were amazing.

Cooked breakfast was ok but basic. Nice room with great lake view.
For the price £180 per night we expected a resturaunt or at least a bar, but there was nothing. Zero facilities.

The main property is situated with beautiful, direct views of Lake Thirlmere. An exceptional view from breakfast table in the morning.
The staff were super helpful and friendly, especially little 7 year old Oliver who helped serve breakfast with the help of his dad.
Once off the main road, the signage could do with an upgrade as we took the right hand side fork and nearly got stuck in the mud!
Also the shower could do with an upgrade - other than that, a great stay and good value for money.

Beds, hosts, breakfast, views.
This is not a hotel. It's a really nice b&b as described on booking.com. Would definitely stay again but limited options for evening meal if don't want to drive.

I have just returned from one night in the Dale Head Hall Lakeside Hotel with my family (inc two young sons). We had a fantastic stay. The hotel is truly beautiful and the location is superb. We stayed in the Lake view family room (No 11) and were delighted with how spacious the room was - even with an additional travel cot. The bathroom products were lovely, the beds were comfortable and we enjoyed watching the sunrise from the seats by the window. We were greeted by all staff in a very friendly manner and were made to feel right at home. Breakfast was delicious and set us up perfectly for a walk up Great How. We will definitely return and we are already looking at dates for next year.

The location was perfect, some great walks around the area. You can walk directly to the bottom of Helvellyn from the hotel garden.
Breakfast was cooked to perfection and the poached eggs were spot on.
Philip is a lovely host and very knowledgeable of the area.
There wasn't anything I didn't like.

The character of an old building, the stunning location, kind and friendly staff, clean and comfortable
The temporary closure of the restaurant - although that certainly did not spoil our break
