It certainly has seen better days. The host was not there on arrival, I received a call around the fact that he would not be available as he was doing something with his grandchildren - if you are running a business you need to work around your own personal life aspects.
The lounge room was cold and I could not sit in there to do a bit of work. The room was poky and the bathroom not clean.

The historic house and the traditional British decor is quite unique and classic compared with ordinary hotels. I appreciate the cozy lounge which serves a variety of tea, biscuits, milk and porter wine!
Because it is a 19-century historic house, the stairs may not be that friendly for travelers with large and heavy suitcases.

We found the location to be great, and the level of service to be excellent - Jeff was a great host. We are recommending this property to friends and family.

Incredibly warm welcome from Jeff, nice tour of the facilities and helpful local advice. Even left a note on the bed to remind of daylight savings time changing!
Lovely shared lounge with complimentary port!

I stayed in The Cottage. Quiet, private, plenty of complimentary port; bottle of Prosecco; Ferrero Roche chocolate. Twinings tea in the shared sitting-room with vintage copies of Australian Women's Weekly. Dressing gowns, spa in the bathroom and sturdy antique furniture. Door upstairs in the bedroom opens onto a small balcony with two chairs and a table. Private street entrance through the garage, with your key. Fantastic location, with a short walk to the North Hobart restaurants, pubs and bars that are as close as Hobart gets to Fitzroy, Melbourne or Paddington, Sydney. Walk the other way and you'll be in town, near Myer, Woolworths - and a bit further - to Salamanca Place with its stunning waterfront restaurants. On Sunday from 8.30am, you can walk to the regular farmers' market and buy Tasmanian blackberries, raspberries, free-range steak, sausages and ham; local wine and gin - and organise breakfast or brunch from a range of outdoor stalls. Perfect for self-catering in the cottage, but see my complaint, below.
No salt in the kitchen cupboard, nor ground pepper, nor cooking oil. No rubbish bags (just the one). The wi-fi was slow and stuck. I had my Telstra mobile wi-fi to save the day, but only had one bar reception in The Cottage. I had to use it outside on the balcony.

Slightly dusty

The actual house exterior is beautiful
Dust on picture rails, dirty chairs, dust on light fittings, old kettle cord heats up with use, doona between two sheets, no actual cover. Waited out front for 3/4 hr as phone to reception was jammed and not working, owner not answering calls. Paid street parking only

We really liked the fact that it was a short walk into the inner city. The history of the place was very interesting. The building itself was beautiful and Jeff was friendly and helpful.
My wife's car was only a week old and she was a bit nervous leaving it out on the street. We were also concerned that we wouldn't have a parking space if we moved the car.

Excellent location. Close to lots of restaurants and cafes. Short stroll down Elizabeth St to more cafes and shops. Lovely house, with a cute and quiet courtyard.
Maybe some lights on the steps leading up to the door could be helpful at night.

It was a last minute booking and yet the owner warmly welcomed us. We stayed at a spa room and the bathtub was big and clean, and I really liked the high ceilings. I have to mention, they had make-up removers as amenities and I was surprised cause you don't find them very often in Australia.
The electric blankets really helped us at night. The garden and the lobby were pretty too.
Parking was easy for us since it was on weekends but it might be hard on weekdays. We used rental scooters to get to the Salamanca market for fun, it took us about 25 mins.
We really enjoyed our stay!
It's a boutique building so walls are pretty thin.

The owner was most welcoming and helpful with suggestions on things for me to do. Great breakfast. Good communication before I arrived. I was very happy and came back for an extra 2 nights.

gorgeous historical home,
beautiful gardens and big comfy rooms. Jeff is a fantastic host. the lodge is in a great position with lots of restaurants and cafes moments away. our room opened up via French doors onto the veranda which we loved. It was also very quiet. there’s is a communal drawing room where Jeff has tea/coffee and even port out for guests to take advantage of.
If I had to make mention of one thing, a lift would be great but we coped with the tight staircase getting our luggage up and down.
