The location was great, close to lots of good restaurants and the tram line straight into the city. The room was clean & the bed was very comfortable as well.
Being on the main road in St Kilda there was a lot of street & bar noise, but nothing a pair of ear plugs didn't fix.

The person on reception was excellant, very friendly and helpfull. It had art everwhere on hallway walls and in the rooms. Bed was comfortable.
It is very old and needs a bit of maintenance. The water pooled up in the shower because the drain was partially blocked. The overhead fan in the room was missing a knob. Fingerpints all over the microwave.

Central location and the reception staff were so lovely and welcoming.
Art in the building is amazing
The Rooms are not to my taste.
The pier was closed, so I did not get to see the penguins which was the reason I chose to stay out at St Kilda

Well-located, comfortable hotel with a nice sense of artistic, ‘boho-chic’ heritage lent by its association with the late artist Mirka Mora.
Somewhat faded elegance; a little in need of maintenance and repairs here and there. Service is willing but basic — pared back to a minimum. Lacks buzz. The site is clearly not fully utilised at street-front.

Great location, and excellent staff. The room was quiet and spacious. We enjoyed the artwork too!

great location and individual quirkiness with numerous artworks. A part of Melbourne’ s history.
noisy group either upstairs or next door who continued to talk loudly all night.

Love Tolarno, couldn't have wished for a better place to stay close to our wedding venue. All our friends who stayed there were upgraded. Lovely smiley staff.

Good location, on the tram line. Staff were friendly.
The basement room had apparently been refurbished but it didn’t seem like it. For example, two of the blinds were broken. The plug-in pest control device (which clicked every 30 seconds or so) was a bit off-putting. Didn’t see evidence of pests but assumed there was an issue?

I forgot to take my trusty pillow

Good location. Decent size bedroom with a good sized fridge.
No lift access, we were on 3rd floor.
The room wasn’t spotlessly clean but was ok, hotel and furniture were a bit ‘tired’.

The hotel was amazing i loved the art work.
The young English girl on reception was friendly and very helpful, and so was T the manager and all the staff.
The room was very small but was great for me on my own.

The bed was comfortable and the hotel is in the heart of Fitzroy Street, St Kilda but that's where the good part of the review ends.
Well where does one start - perhaps the most disappointing hotel stay I've had in 40+ years of travelling the globe. To actually call the Tolarno a hotel at the moment is a misnomer it's more like a provided room and sadly none of the following information is provided pre-arrival so you could consider staying somewhere else.
We were there for 8 days and the room wasn't cleaned once, one of the staff members said it was COVID-19 protocols, another told us that they had contract cleaners who weren't doing the job and so they sacked them. We were advised to leave our rubbish outside the door and it would be collected (4 days it sat there!).
We needed to ask for additional toilet paper and that seemed like the staff member was supplying it from their own personal collection, similarly if we wanted to change the sheets or towels during our stay it was like the inquisition.
The fridge in the room hadn't been cleaned, and certainly hadn't been defrosted for some time - we discovered a bag of peas left by a previous guest so iced up that they couldn't be removed.
There was an ashtray on the balcony that still had butts from previous guests (we don't smoke), the bathroom hadn't been properly cleaned, nor had the carpets and the table had stains from previous guests (a five minute clean by ourselves fixed some of these issues - but we shouldn't have had to be the ones doing the cleaning).
Only half the TV channels worked and the wifi was patchy at best so if you're looking for somewhere to conduct business look elsewhere.
Unfortunately at the time of the year we couldn't just leave and find another hotel (which would have been our preference) so we endured.

that I contacted them directly 3 times to change the date when they said they had availability:.. no response to the emails.. and booking.com said to go to the hotel?

nothing I did not get what I asked for left

Good location right on the tram line.
Wasn't the cleanest with tomato sauce and other stains on table when we arrived.

The Air Conditioning didn't appear to work .
