Pool was great. Lots of monkeys around. Great beach. Room was very clean.
No a/c. Windows were just screens so could hear people at night.
5.0
There was someone to meet us on arrival.
The house was clean and welcoming, lots of wildlife including George the resident sloth, a family of Capuchin monkeys.
And various lizards around the pool.
Could do with a bigger fridge and better shelving or places to prepare food

It was close to the beach, had a small pool and it was spacious. The staff was friendly.
The room was opened and we had bugs and cockroaches around, I’m not sure if they can do anything about it, as there are no doors or glass, just a fence on the entrance, which is not connected to the wall properly. The room was a bit dark. They have a small bar, but don’t have coffee.

A great location, located at a walking distance from a wonderful beach.

It was really quiet, there was parking outside, and it was a very quick walk to the beach. The beach was gorgeous with amazing sunsets. The property has a really lovely pool and greenery. Very welcoming staff. There’s one shot and a very good restaurant a short walk away. The area also has loads of scarlet macaws which was a massive bonus
It was great. we didn’t have any outdoor space as such, however we just spent a whole time at the beach. There’s also seating around the gorgeous pool area so it really wasn’t a problem whatsoever

Perfect location, close to the beach and the jungle just outside the window. Morning breakfast at the balcony with monkeys playing outside.

could have been better lighting in the room

The room was very large and clean with great views. The beds were very comfortable. The property was well-maintained and the surroundings were beautiful. It was very quiet and serene. The pool was lovely and very clean. The beach was nearby. It is not good for swimming as the waves are too rough but it's nice to go in and get some salt water and jump the waves. There are many birds in the area. The macaws flew over the property quite often. Carlos was very kind and helpful. There is a little bar where you can get a glass of wine or a bottle of beer but that is the extent of it. The owner has put a lot of his heart and soul into this property and it shows. There are displays where you can learn about his background and there are little model ski gondolas which go up and down and track and are fun to watch. There is beautiful lighting in the gardens at night. I would highly recommend this accommodation.
Since there were 3 of us travelling together, it would have been nice to have a room divider in the room for privacy. I think this could easily be done. It is called a bungalow but it is just one large open room. It would have been nice to have more comfortable pillows. There were no food options on site. I gather in the past, the owner used to prepare meals but there is nothing now. Even having a nice breakfast would be good. I noted that there was somebody smoking around the pool and I think this should be prohibited. There are places one can go to have a cigarette without bothering the rest of the guests.

The location was ideal, close to the beach, and with a good sized pool. Good cooking facilities, and very comfortable bed. Carlos was extremely helpful and always on hand. Very relaxed atmosphere. The beach at Matapalo is beautiful and mostly deserted, with a couple of good restaurants nearby and a supermarket within 10min walk.
Nothing comes to mind.

Close to a wonderful long beach, nice pool, super friendly staff. This place was once set up and decorated with a lot of love. Nice kitchen area to hang out in in front of the rooms. The room neighbours are all very close.
The decor of the rooms is a bit outdated. No breakfast offered.

If you speak Spanish, I'm sure this can be a good location for you if you're aware the windows just have mesh and no glass... If you don't speak Spanish, communication and organisation can be slow and tedious and you're definitely not getting all the attention and info that other people are getting (when we were there and the owner wasn't present)... That said, the caretaker is trying to be sweet to the kids especially.
The room itself had really cozy beds and the kitchen was pretty well equipped.
We weren't aware there were no real windows or shutters, which would have affected our decision to stay here because we felt we had to shush the children, while getting noise from the neighbours at night (though we appreciate it's a nice touch if you want to see and hear nature!).
When we arrived, the room was ready, but staff had no clue which room we'd booked, how long we were staying and who was staying.
The place gets pretty damp with daily rain.
Matapalo is very rural, which was what we were looking for, but it felt really run down, with a lot of former hotels which were really dilapidated.

Great location, good pool, close to the beach, interesting design (our room was designed like a boat)
the water was cold in the shower. after complaint they did nothing, I got sick after cold showers. bed linen was very old, gray color, bad quality.

Top place during our vacation. Super nice vibe of the apartment with the forest on one side and the ocean on the other. Would love to come again.
Wi-Fi was not working during our stay.

Very friendly welcome in a nice property almost in front of the beach....only few steps !
Wild nature around full of birds and monkeys.
The owner and the staff are so kind.
A very pleasant stay I highly recommend this place.

Had a neat little pool area.
When my daughter and I arrived at dark after a very long day, we were told that the cabin we reserved MONTHS ago had been given away! Also the owner had left that day and so there was a big language issue with the caretaker. This was frustrating and shocking. We were given an “only option” of a tiny one bed room with separated bathroom and outdoor kitchen. I did not reserve that. We did get the night free but I am in shock our reservation was not honored (even after a confirmation that was sent a couple days prior) and we were left with a uncomfortable experience. We went from a two bed with indoor facilities and kitchen to sharing a bed and not a good nights sleep. We were told sorry, but this is all they could do. The whole thing was very disappointing.

Our room was like a palace! Plenty of space, high ceilings, so many windows, comfortable beds and a gorgeous, inviting tub & shower. The pool was lovely, and the owner, Phillipe, kindly turned on the fountains each time our kids hopped in. The whole place was a little gem set among palms and flowers.
Breakfast was of fairly good value and served poolside but we preferred to go out for meals after the first day.

Staff was great, made us feel like royalty
can’t say I found anything I didn’t like, someone might say no TVs is a bad thing, I think it was a great thing!!!

Great pool and great location next to Playa Matapalo. The room was clean.
No A/C! Also, Philippe is a nice enough guy but he seems to be be more focused on enjoying retirement than running a business.

the grounds are pretty and rooms are big and very clean. enjoyed the extremely short walk to the beach where the monkeys come to visit daily and birds. matapalo beach was my favourite beach between ojochal and matapalo.
pool was clean and warm, great way to end the day
bar very convenient to have at the property and breakfast included was nice
I have nothing bad to say here, everything was lovely

Philipe was an excellent host. The pool was wonderful, the music he played by the pool was fun and the room was amazing. It was perfect for my family of four and located close to Manuel Antonio and Dominical.
I can't think of anything we didn't like.

We loved everything is this place!! We took the bungalow and we really loved it! Host was very nice, room was very comfy big and clean. In kitchen we had everything what we needed. Outside of the balcony we had few monkeys everyday which we loved :) Beach is 2 min walking compleatly empty (in August) and shop 900 meters from home. There is sweaming pool with some music and light in the evenings (some people were complaing about it but for us was very nic to have a drink in this atmosphere). I would come back even tomorrow if we could <3

Giancarlo was a kind and enthusiastic host. He was also very excited to show us the resident sloths. We had been in CR forest/jungle for 10 days (including Osa Peninsula) and saw no sloths until staying at Casa Aba.
I personally could do without the disco lights and mirror ball over the pool.

It is hard to say what was the most beautiful in this place. Family atmosphere, fantastic place, very nice, large and clean rooms. For those willing, a kitchen is available. Music. All this contributed to the unique, magical atmosphere of Casa Aba.

beautiful hotel near a perfect beach (also for little ones) with a wonderful owner and a hartwarming story about the hotel.
