About this cabin rental
Relax and enjoy the majestic, panoramic mountain and lake view from either our covered front porch and open back deck year-round! See how many mountain ridges you can count and watch the birds of prey soaring through the air over the valley below. Even the occasional rain shower popping up and passing through the valley is a show to watch when you're as high as the clouds. At an elevation of 2200 feet temperatures will be 10-20 degrees cooler than the flat lands depending upon the season. Cabin is located in the middle of heavily wooded 1.28 acres near Lake Santeetlah and surrounded by Nantahala National Forest behind the cabin. USFS maintains a boat launch area 1/2 mile downhill from cabin.
Our well appointed 1-story cabin has NO stairs to climb and is wheel-chair accessible, a rarity in the mountains. It has 2 large bedrooms (king & queen beds) and 2 baths; plus queen sleeper sofa & single roll-away bed, total sleeping capacity is 7. Cabin was built in 2006, has 1100 SF in a spacious open concept living area design. Satellite Internet/Wi-Fi and Dish TV service available, 47" flat screen TV in living room, 32" flat screen TV in master bedroom, central heat and air-conditioning, propane gas fireplace stove in living room with remote control, washer and dryer, iron, telescope for star gazing. Stainless steel appliances in fully-equipped kitchen include refrigerator with ice maker, microwave, dishwasher, crock pot, bread maker, toaster, coffee maker and blender. Master bath has hair dryer, magnifying make-up mirror and double-sized shower area with 3 shower heads and additional adjustable hand-held shower head and built-in sitting bench. Both showers will accommodate wheel chairs. Guest bath has hand rails installed in toilet area. French double entry front door, and master BR French doors to back patio will accommodate wheel chair. All single width doors are 3 feet wide. Safety features include smoke & carbon monoxide detectors and fire extinguisher-all checked annually, and front & back door entrance/exits. Cabin has central heat and air, with ceiling fans in both bedrooms, living room, kitchen area and 2 on outside front balcony. Propane gas fireplace stove with remote control in living room is also available during colder winter months. Cabin is on a spring-fed community well with naturally soft water. You have excellent water pressure and pleasing taste to the water. There are 2 outside water hoses, 1 near parking area and 1 near back outside deck for your convenience too. A fire-pit area is also available for those evening campfires outdoors.
There are 3 vehicle parking spaces at cabin. Community roads are gravel, community front main entrance is 1 1/2 mile to cabin; back entrance is 7/10 mile to cabin. Mountain roads within Graham County are curvy, ideal for driving enthusiasts. Gravel/dirt roads within our community have some inclines and a few tight curves. If guests are concerned about the gravel roads and their specific vehicle clearance, please contact owner for additional information. There is parking for trailers at boat launch area. All pictures shown on website are current as of 2017.
We have verified 3 bars of cell phone service available in cabin for Verizon and AT&T customers, unknown for other service providers. On a clear day you can see cell antenna towers on distant mountain top approximately 4-5 miles away. While driving through the rural mountain country side cell service is intermittent to not available.
There are 2 boat rental facilities on Lake Santeetlah, 8.7 miles away & 14.2 miles away with a large variety of boats to rent, or you can bring your own boat, jet skis, canoes, kayaks or paddle boats & store at boat launch 1/2 mile from cabin.
Graham county has some of the "best" sports car and motorcycle roads in North Carolina for driving enthusiasts including the world famous "Tail of the Dragon" (318 curves in 11 miles) on US 129 very close by, Cherohala Skyway less then 2 miles away and Moonshiner 28. Other area activities include whitewater rafting on the Nantahala River Gorge, Cheoah River and day trip to TN Ocoee River. 68% of Graham County is National Forest (Nantahala Forest & Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forests-entrance is short drive from cabin) with numerous pristine rivers, lakes, waterfalls, and walking/hiking trails through old-growth trees (Appalachian Trail, Bartram Trail, near historic Tapoco Lodge and others), back road sightseeing, photography and fishing in nearby Lake Santeetlah, Fontana Lake, Calderwood Lake, Cheoah Lake and numerous mountain streams, zip lines in Andrews & jet boat rides in Bryson City. Mountain biking is also available in Tsala Recreation area and Fontana Village. Robbinsville is a true Southern Appalachian small town with a touch of Cherokee culture. You will notice many of the street signs are in both English and Cherokee. Cherokee Chief Junaluska's grave site is located in Robbinsville along with a portion of the Cherokee Trail of Tears. Robbinsville courthouse also has historical marker indicating it was the last civil war area to surrender in 1865 due to remoteness of the area back then. Stecoah Valley Center sponsors numerous summer festivals June - mid August. Robbinsville holds the annual "Azalea" festival 3rd weekend of June. Other day trips include Great Smoky Mountain National Park (1 hr away), Blue Ridge Parkway, Foothills Scenic Parkway, Road to Nowhere near Bryson City, a trip on the Smoky Mountain Railroad, Harrah's Casino located in Murphy & Cherokee, and Biltmore Estate in Asheville (2 hrs away).
During spring time (late April-May) the woods around cabin put on a spectacular show with blooming Rhododendron, Mountain Laurel, wild daises, and Flame Azaleas
*One last note: If you have a group larger than Sundance Cottage can accommodate and looking for an additional cottage close by, please check out my neighbor Trillium Cottage #4731364ha. It's a very short walk away and can accommodate an extra 6 people.

Our third time at Sundance. Never disappoints
4.8
Unfortunately, due to GPS problems, we arrived at night. Believe them when they say not to do that ...... we did finally find the cottage. When we opened the door, it was beautiful and welcoming. Some food in the fridge, anything you could need in kitchen and in the rest of the cottage. The beds were high for me (I am 4'10") so we found a solution and enjoyed the stay.
Our first morning was great since the day was clear, warm and the view was just as advertised. We only left the cottage to see more of the lake. Due to my health problems, we didn't take advantage of all that is available. We did puzzles, worked on crafts, watched TV, rocked on the front deck and toasted marshmallows in the fire pit. My husband said that it was an adventure, in a good way. We encourage anyone looking for a great place to stay, a great owner and manager who are available to you, if needed, and lots to do will choose Sundance Cottage.

Thoroughly enjoyed everything about this property! The pictures don't do it justice. Long range views are spectacular, nicely appointed kitchen, so welcoming & cozy! Close proximity to Cherohala & Joyce Kilmer...will definitely be planning a return trip!

We truly enjoyed our Thanksgiving getaway at Sundance Cottage. We had everything we needed and then some. Thanks to the host for thinking of every little detail to make this a comfy home away from home! Cindy.

This cozy "cottage" was excellent what we wanted. It was easy to find and road was good. the beautiful view from both decks is of surrounding mountains and lake (in distance). good combination of a "cabin feel." combined with all modern conveniences. excellent contact with owner. EVERYTHING worked great with no problems. we will be back.

Waking up in the morning to coffee and the most beautiful view of the mountains and lake was so relaxing. Quick drive or walk to pier and boat/kayak access. Enjoyed using bread maker and crockpot for easy family meals. Cottage was super clean and fun to stay in.

The house was well-equipped and so clean. The owner was very helpful and answered all our questions. The view was spectacular! You don’t even need to leave the front porch rocking chairs! The outdoor fans kept us cool. This is the place to stay if you want to be on top of a mountain!

We Will Return!
I use a manual wheelchair, so my husband and I are always looking for an accessible rental with a beautiful view. Sundance Cottage worked well with my special needs and gave us an awe-inspiring view too.
There are several reasons why this rental stands out. First, there are two accessible outside areas. In the mornings, we enjoyed the deck and having lunch under the umbrella. And when the day was at its warmest (low 80's) we enjoyed sitting on the covered porch, running the fans, and feeling the breeze from the surrounding tress. At first, we were taken aback by the bees that live in the ground near the porch until we identified them as carpenter bees -- they don't sting unless provoked or handled. So, we relaxed and just shooed them away if one got too close.
Second, Sundance stands out because of its location. The area surrounding the cottage is filled with lots of great "outdoorsy" things to do. The owner, Susan, did a wonderful job suggesting accessible picnic areas and overlooks to visit. And the nearby scenic drive will remind you of the Blue Ridge Parkway, but with less traffic.
Thirdly, Susan makes this rental very special. Even before we reserved the cottage, she promptly answered my questions about its accessibility so that we could determine if the property would be right for us. And after we reserved it, she provided a list of accessible places to visit including the Topoco Tavern which offers a yummy pizza and has a magnificent view of the river.
My husband and I rate our experience at Sundance Cottage a 5-star. And we are looking forward to returning hopefully in the fall.

This is one of the most beautiful properties around Santeetlah. The view is amazing and the house was perfect for us. Most relaxing vacation location you could find.

The most beautiful cabin!
My family and I had such a great time staying at this cabin. The pictures of the cabin do not do it justice. We can't wait to return.

The cabin was tucked away on the top of a hill with a spectacular view. It's was extremely clean and cozy. There was a lot to do in the area and the cabin provided us with access to a number of trails, scenic hikes and outdoor adventure.

Perfect for Privacy
My wife and stayed in this wonderful cabin with spectacular views from the front balcony. We never used the fire pit or back patio as the front view was satisfying. We had plenty of towel, the bed was good and plenty of options when dining at the cabin. I was a little worried about meeting people going in and out on the narrow entry but that only happened twice and we were able to see them coming and plan accordingly. All in all it was a great stay.

This adorable cottage is perfect - the space inside and out is great. The view of the mountains and lake is so beautiful. It is a very peaceful and quiet place, exactly what we needed. There's so much to do close by, our days were full of fun and we were able to come back to this very comfortable cottage and totally relax. We will definitely return and can't wait!

I cannot express how amazing this property is. Other reviewers are right - the pictures do not do the view justice. I could have sat there all week and just soaked it in! All the amenities you want and more. Very nicely furnished and CLEAN. Owner's communication was fast and helpful I would rent this house again in a heartbeat (and probably will)! It is a pretty steep gravel road to get up to the house, but I had no issue with my front wheel drive mini-van. One thing to be aware of - the county it's located in is a dry county. Not a big deal - just wanted to buy a bottle of wine to enjoy on the awesome deck, but wish I would have know that in advance.

This was our summer vacation where we go somewhere remote to escape all the hustle and bustle of this chaotic world. The view was to die for. We ate all our meals on the front porch just to watch the clouds roll by in the distance. The cabin was immaculate and had everything we could have possibly needed. We brought our kayaks. The water access was very close and all that we needed to launch and have a great day of fishing and swimming. At one point a storm rolled thru and a tree fell across the road. The homeowner was extremely responsive to contact someone that could cut up the tree so we could drive out. The road up to the cabin is all gravel and steep in some locations. A car could make it up just fine, but I did feel more comfortable in my AWD SUV. Excellent trip and will definitely book again.

Sundance cottage was an amazing and special place to stay. The house is beautiful, clean, comfortable and inviting. The house was fully stocked with all supplies needed. The only things we really needed to bring was food, drinks and alcohol. There is even a bread maker and crock pot which worked great. Even the water and ice tasted good!
The views of the mountains are even better than the pictures. We spent most of our time on the front porch relaxing and admiring the beauty before us. It is very serene and private as well. We brought our own boat which was left at the dock and nobody messed with it. The lake is gorgeous as well. We swam in the clear waters, kayaked around and fished. Fishing was unsuccessful, but it didn’t matter. We still enjoyed the time.
We hiked to waterfalls and went white water rafting. We shopped at the local grocery store and ate at Lynn’s place one evening. If you are in town head past the Hub and stop by the Hawaiian Whip for a sweet treat.
The roads are very curvy, but the gravel is well maintained. At first the roads were intimidating, but after a few days we figured out the best way to maneuver the roads and actually became quite comfortable driving.
Sundance cottage was absolutely perfect for our family and I look forward to returning someday.

Exceeded Expectations in Every way
As soon as we turned the corner onto the porch, the view brought us up short. The View is stunning! First and last stop each day.
Inside was just as pictured, but better in person. No detail was over looked. Everything you need is there. I was there for the driving and the Cherahola Skyway, Tail of the Dragon, and Moonshiner run did not disappoint. Will do the whitewater rafting next trip.

Perfect Property
My wife and I had a great experience at the Sundance Cottage.
The cottage had fantastic views of both the mountains and lake. It was private, spotless, up to date and well provisioned. It was the perfect property for our week at Santeetlah.

Gorgeous view
Absolutely beautiful vistas. I can only imagine it during the fall. Directions were very clear and helpful. Property manager answered immediately when we had an issue, and quickly resolved it. I’d recommend an AWD vehicle because of front wheel drive SUV couldn’t make it up to the cabin and we had to park one of our vehicles at the bottom of the driveway. We explored the lake, Cherokee, and Nantahala National forest while we were in the area.

Perfection
My family and I (4 adults and 1 toddler) had an amazing stay. The home was equipped with everything we could've possibly needed to be comfortable for the week. The view each morning was worth our long drive. And the distance from places like Yellow Creek Falls, Huckleberry Knob, Joyce Kilmer made it a great spot to explore and then head home. Thank you for the wonderful adventure.

perfect time of year for leaf peeping, great weather all week. convenient to shopping, very relaxing. thank you

Our new favorite mountain VRBO rental
There are no words in the property description or in a review that can do justice to our experience here and the property itself. By far, this was the cleanest VRBO mountain property we’ve ever stayed at.
Even with a little mixup on our arrival date, the property owner was immediately available to provide access. Perfect place for a couple, and four people would have been just fine too. Clean, well appointed, love the mountain decor and comfortable furniture, nice bathrooms, two decks to enjoy the amazing view that continuously changes with the sun and clouds and fog, quiet and serene, fire pit (bring your own wood ... there was some provided but one of the previous renters left it uncovered so it was wet), and the stars ... wow.
We explored a lot of the area and found some off the beaten path (literally) hikes to hidden waterfalls, watched the sunset over Tennessee from the skyway, found The Fugitive Dam, and so much more in just four days.
Thank you, Susan, for being a wonderful, gracious host. We will return.
