Welcome to your perfect log cabin Smokey Mountain vacation! High Frontier Lodge sits on a very secluded and peaceful 4 acres of pristine mountain wilderness, bordered by a gushing trout creek in the Squally Valley that features cascading waterfalls and endless offroad and hiking trails.
Whether you’re on a biker’s getaway, hosting a retreat, or just looking to get away from it all with the family (or four families!), the High Frontier Lodge has plenty of room and all the amenities you could want, with sleeping for 10 – yet at a price you’d expect for a cabin half it’s size.
From Robbinsville NC, you’ll have a picturesque drive into the wilderness around Lake Santeetlah on the National Scenic Cherahola Skyway. Although The Lodge is VERY private, getting there is easy. After a one mile section of well maintained, level gravel road and a short ascent up the private year-round accessible PAVED drive, you’ll find The Lodge and ample parking nestled into the trees on a flat spacious knoll. (There’s even covered parking for 1-2 motorcycles!) A custom, hand-built real log home, The Lodge was built with love and meant to blend seamlessly into the forest surroundings. Outside is the oversized 437 square foot viewing deck with unspoiled scenic forest and mountain views and enough grilling, dining, and relaxing space for the whole group. It’s so big, it was actually used for a country wedding!
Inside the cabin, you’re met with a soaring 22 foot high cathedral beamed ceiling in the open concept great room. Our kitchen comes overstocked with everything you’ll need for home cooked meals and then some, and the cook is always part of the group with the giant wood slab dining room table and living room all together in one large space. Four comfy leather couches and armchairs surround the native stack stone fireplace, huge flat-screen TV, and large bay window.
With hand built real log furniture throughout, wood crafted doors and knotty pine boards, plus central heat and AC, Wi-Fi internet, and DISH satellite TV - High Frontier Lodge is a perfect balance of modern and rustic log home. We furnish all the clean, sanitized, high-end linens so you walk into a cabin ready to enjoy. You’ll sleep like hibernating mountain bear on the Tempur-Pedic® bedding, with a king master and a second queen bedroom on the first floor, along with laundry and a full bathroom. Then upstairs, you have the third and fourth queen bedrooms, TWO full bathrooms, and a loft area with a couch, futon, and game console for the kids.
Enjoy your evenings gazing at the stars in the 7 person hot tub, situated in the back of The Lodge in a private woodland setting, listening to the sound of Squally Creek below. Then, set out during the day right from the front door to experience the waterfalls and endless offroad riding and hiking trails through thousands of acres of wild mountain forest. Or try trout fishing and boating on Lake Santeetlah, and visit other nearby attractions like Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, , Fontana Lake, Nantahala National Forest, Tail of the Dragon, and the Cherohola Skyway. Nature abounds! A little further down the road, you’ll love the downtown restaurants, museums, shops, and breweries of charming Bryson City, Silva, or Franklin. Kids will enjoy the nearby Cheoah Point man-made swimming beach in the summer, the extensive supply of games and toys, exploring the property’s ridges and valleys, and of course roasting marshmallows over the fire pit year round. There’s even two ski resorts within a 2 hour drive!
So bring your motorcycles, ATVs, side-by-sides, mountain bikes, or even just your dog, a good book, and a bottle of wine – and let us treat your family and friends to a priceless mountain memory.

This is a great secluded cabin. Would definitely rent again.

There were 7 of us from Kissimmee, FL that came up with bikes to ride the Dragon and all the other trails. We had a blast for 7 days. The cabin was perfect. Very clean and exactly matches the description of the cabin. The owners are also excellent. We will be returning. Anything you could need is there and sitting out by firepit at night while listening to the birds and other animals awesome.

The property looks exactly as pics and described. We came as a group, The Red Knights NC Chapter #22 which is a motorcycle group. We rode the Tail of the Dragon. The dirt road was not bad but it got old when having to make trips back and forth. We enjoyed the hot tub and the large front porch! The only complaint we had was the issue of taking the trash to the dump. Makes it hard when being on bikes, fortunately we had one person that drove and took the trash back down for us. And yes, we knew we had to take the trash but just making sure others on bikes are aware they have to take it with them when leaving! Other than that it is a very peaceful property. The owner checked in when we arrived but did not pester us after that. Great place to get away from it all, we didn't even turn on the TV the whole time there!

It was our second time staying at Steves cabin. Great location for access to Cherahola and The Dragon.. driveway is steep but easily manages with plenty of space for trailers.. very comfortable for 4 male adults in four good sized rooms… Will be back next year! Thanks Steve.

What a wonderful stay. The cabin is well appointed with all of the things that you will need day to day. Lots of extras as well. The host/owner was great in terms of communication, and very flexible with our travel plans, and our group. Overall, wonderful experience. Will definitely stay here again!

The property is a wonderfully kept property nestled in the mountains in a quiet and peaceful setting. It is a great place to disconnect. Do not expect to use the Internet to work while you are in this property. The cabin and the furnishings are in great shape and I would highly recommend this property, unless you are on a 950lb touring motorcycle loaded with luggage.
I do not feel the listing accurately describes the roadway into this property. We found that after the paved road ends, you are on a dirt/gravel road for over a mile. When we were there, the dirt was actually mud in places and near the bridge it was very slippery/greasy, both coming and going. Additionally, contrary to the listing, the gravel road is not hard-packed gravel. There was some new, large stone, crush and run rock that had been added to the road to fill in washout spots. That caused tire slippage and made the trip up and down a bit challenging. The turnoff road to the cabin from the gravel is asphalt. When reviewing the listing prior to renting we were under the impression that this part of the road would not be an issue. What we did not expect was that the asphalt would have slippery moss growing on the sides of the road in places.
Out of the 4 of us, 3 of us managed to lay our bikes over while stopped or at crawling speed while attempting to navigate the varying parts of this terrain. We ended up renting a different place after two days of this because the reward was not worth the effort required t

We had an amazing time staying here. If you are looking to disconnect and just enjoy nature and peacefulness, this is the place. Five star experience!

From the beginning communication with the owner through checkout was, as noted, outstanding. Guests ranged in age of 65-71, house access was easy and no problems.
We all agreed that this was a great vacation...we all needed a bit of peace and quiet.
Please go and you will find solitude yet it's not too far for adventuring.

This was such an amazing property! It was beautiful all around and the inside is just like the pictures! It had such a cozy feel to it. We will for sure be keeping this property saved for the future! Also the hosts were so communicative as well!

Wonderful retreat to the woods
Wow, we were so impressed with this cabin! Beautiful lodging in the Smoky Mtns. I've been back home for a couple days and am missing the good nights sleeps we all got up there on the awesome beds and with the perfect mountain air. Would stay here again in a heartbeat; our first time in Joyce Kilmer, but definitely not our last. Thank you!

Beautiful secluded wooded lodge!
This property is gorgeous and private, with walking access to some of the most spectacular creeks and and hollows ever. The home and amenities are just perfect. They have a well appointed kitchen with everything you need and the front porch is just heavenly for morning coffee or an evening glass of wine. You are relatively close to boat rental on lake Santeetlah and gorgeous beautiful hikes in the Nantahala National forest. 10 out of 10, would reccommned! :)

Secluded Mountain Home
Perfect home to relax and unplug and close enough for day trips to spectacular hiking trails and rafting. The drive to the house is long and off the beaten path, but it is so worth it. We enjoyed sitting on the covered porch every evening and listening to the creek that ran by the house. It was serene and provided great fly fishing opportunities. The house was well stocked, clean, and spacious. We would definitely stay here again during our next trip to the area.

Beautiful get away
Beautiful cabin to relax at after a long day of exploring.

Amazing cabin, great location.
Wonderful stay at this beautiful cabin. Location is great for all of the area attractions. Tucked far away from main roads, which we really enjoyed. Kitchen is well stocked and the cabin was spotless. If on a motorcycle, be sure you’re comfortable with a bit of gravel/dirt roads and steep, paved inclines. Nothing too challenging at all but just an fyi for any riders staying here.

Beautiful, cozy cabin
Myself, my spouse, and 3 other couples stayed here for a long weekend trip. Some highlights were the huge hot tub (you can easily fit 6+ adults), tons of outdoor seating on the covered porch to enjoy nice weather, the pleasant sound of the running water of the creek down in the valley, and the nice selection of games/books/puzzles/etc. provided by the owners!
While at first I was a little apprehensive because some of the rooms were a bit small and we had 8 people, we actually ended up having plenty of space for everyone in the bedrooms & in the common areas. The covered porch area was perfect for sitting and enjoying the outdoors in any kind of weather - rain or shine.
The kitchen proved able to handle all the cooking we did. I would recommend bringing your own spices, but otherwise the fridge, appliances, and cookware provided just about everything we needed!
The directions to get to the cabin were perfect and we found it with no problem. We all drive normal sedans (honda/nissan/etc.) and were able to drive to the cabin with no issues at all. Keep in mind to bring all the groceries you need as it is about an hour trip to get to ingles and back if you forget something (we learned this the hard way).

What an absolutely beautiful cabin with everything you need. It was better than we expected. Pick this cabin, you won’t regret it!

Fantastic Remote Cabin
The drive as expected was somewhat arduous past ingles, but the Steves directions were spot on. Crummy rainy weekend but that just gave us time to hang out and admire the beautiful outdoors. Thanks again.

Relaxing
We waited last minute to plan a fall vacation and having never visited the area, I was skeptical. But, the property was just as it looks in the pictures. It's a little off the beaten path (hence 30 minutes from town) but it was so nice to get away from every day life. I really enjoyed not having cell service and being able to unplug. Being pet friendly was a huge plus. It's so hard to find somewhere that allows the fur babies. My favorite part about the entire place was sitting on the deck in the cool mornings just listening to the nearby stream, the birds chirping, and squirrels playing.

Be your guest
My family of four and sisters family of 3,checked in on a Sunday afternoon. Check in was easy, there where a bunch of kids on the porch when my sister arrived, so she was confused on if she was in the right place. The drive way has to be a half mile of 45° crazy twists and turns, not so easy with a 24 ' trailer. The river at the bottom was nice to play in, not so fun to get back up to the house, unless you have a ride. The waterfalls " a short walk away" is more than five miles of rough terrain, we never found it 😔
The home is beautiful. Very quite and peaceful. Your limited( and that's being nice) on your internet access, which made it hard to look up places to go, things to do. No cell service either.
The water pump went out or first day, super fast on getting that repaired. We had no power to the hot tub, didn't realize until our trip was almost over.
The king bed is nice, I was in the room next to it, sqeeky, hard bed and some of the flattest pillows. Bring your own. The futon in the loft is a bed of springs (said my 12year old who ended up on the couch)
I'm not saying it was a bad trip, I feel the new owners need to spend some time there, be your guest for a week. It's the little thing that could make it better. ( nicer sheets/pillows, garbage can to keep garbage(the dump is a 25 minute drive)bring large garbage bags with you kitchen ones don't fit the can, internet,(we hit up Ingles 30 minutes away to do our searching online😒) updated flyers..... Just my opinion

Great, secluded location and amenities. Make sure you rent a boat on Lake Santeetlah!

Beautiful home and area
We had a lovely stay. Your home is a wonderful place for families to relax. It would be nice if the listing mentioned that the WiFi was metered. Not really a big deal for the parents, but the teens were definitely disappointed. The river nearby is beautiful, however, with the number of water pictures in the listing we inaccurately thought it was directly on the river. Overall it was a lovely week.

Amazing property!!
Absolutely loved our stay once we arrived safely. GPS does not work and we could not access the email we had with directions due to no service. (Our fault for not printing them). Our only suggestion would be to have a much more visible sign with printed direction flyers on the tree. If you are not experienced riders, do not attempt what our crazy crew drove through!!! Overall we loved the cabin, the porch was a hit due to the pop up showers!!! Amazing vacation, we cannot thank our hosts enough!!🙂 As a Marine mom, thank you for flying the flag!!!!

Amazing stay, absolutely gorgeous property!
Our stay was amazing! There were 7 of us total and we all had our own space so didn’t feel on top of each other. The views were amazing! Steve was great with communication as far as anything we needed. Would definitely recommend for a nice mountain stay!

Great getaway.. Beautiful property and scenery!
Everything was perfect.. Only regret is that I didn't bring firewood (for the firepit) and charcoal (for the grill). I won't make that mistake next time!

Nice get-away!
This was a nice place to get away from everything and relax! It was close to the Tail of the Dragon, along with other routes we rode. It was also very motorcycle friendly!!

What is it like to live in the mountains...
If you are looking for nature at its best and adventures in driving, this area is your place! The cabin is beautiful and such care with details. Loved the front porch where grandkids whittled, drank coffee and talked. Hot tub and fireplace were wonderful. Hikes up in the forest and down to the creek were enjoyed by all. Day trips to Sylva to see The Fugitive train wreck, Gem mining in Franklin, Flea markets and antiquing, Field of the Wood to see the largest Ten Commandments in the world, eating at Tapoco Lodge, Fontana and Cheoah Dam. Tail of the Dragon and Moonshiners highway were quite the driving challenge! Loved our stay as did the family!

Perfect Escape
A beautiful lodge deep in the woods with sounds of water from the front deck. As if that weren't enough - a well appointed kitchen, super comfy beds and couches, a large wonderful hot tub, nice owner, easy check-in process, and good water pressure from the well (tasty water) all made this lodge the perfect place to escape from it all for a few days.
Of note - if you're looking for fast internet, lots of televisions, and a hopping downtown/nightlife scene.... this is not the place. The county is totally dry with the exception of The Moonshiners Steakhouse (nearby), the wifi is a little slow, and there's really not a lot happening nearby if you're not in the water, on a trail, sightseeing, or relaxing. Which is why I give this one 5 stars - go here, take a step back, chill-ax, unwind, and reset.
Thanks Brad and Ginger!

Loved the place
We loved the place and will be back again. We did have motorcycles and left them down the hill with out trailer. I'm glad we had our ATV with us. came in very handy to get up the mountain to the house. It is in the middle of almost nowhere. the closest store was 20ish min. away. Brad told us eveything we needed to know before we got there. The directions was great right on point.

Perfect
The lodge was a perfect family getaway. We brought our ATVs and rode along the beautiful creek for miles. The house was fully stocked with everything you may need and plenty of room for a larger group. We sat outside every morning and enjoyed our coffee on the porch. The driveway is not for the faint of heart at first (we are flat landers from Florida) but it is nicely paved. Enjoyed every minute.
