Location and hospitality shown by the staff was excellent.
Our family room needed maintenance.
4.1
The hotel has lots of perod characteristics.
It was a little worn in places.
4.1
The room was clean, comfortable and warm. The hotel is situated in nice grounds, in a beautiful rural location, not far from Cockermouth.
There are stairs to the accomodation meaning a hardish climb if you have heavy bags, which we did.

Lashings of hot water in the shower room.
Beautiful building, nice bedroom.
Lovely countryside location.
Peacocks!
Prompt response at the reception desk.
I stayed for a week and would have expected fresh bed linen and towels to at least have been offered at some point. As it was, I had to request a large towel on arrival (two hand towels were provided, one of which I used as a bath mat.)
Couldn't get subtitles on the TV. Dan did his best to sort it but without success. This seems to be a common problem: subtitles are available but there seems no way of turning them on. Annoying if like me you are deaf and travelling alone.

Carpet in hall a bit tired

We stayed in the bridal room with the four poster bed and the views were stunning, I watched the sun rise and felt so at peace watching the birds fly and the sunlight shimmer off the river.
The mattress feels like it could do with replacing soon but was comfortable enough for the night.

The people were welcoming and the food was lovely. It was very comfortable and in a lovely location with beautiful views.
The bathroom could have done with a shelf for toiletries and a grab rail in the shower/bath, as I couldn't have a shower, or a bath without some means of stability.

lovely setting. great architecture and it takes dogs which was very welcome

We felt at home during our stay. we had dinner one night which was good value and delicious. the open fires in the evening are great
the bathroom window wasn’t sealed and let burn wind and rain in making the bathroom very cold
4.1
Excellent views and grounds. Friendly staff. Serene. Comfy lounge with a log fire in the afternoons and evenings.
Room could have been warmer, but came with an extra heater to top up the radiators.

Very friendly staff
Shower was awkward to use, couldn’t turn it off. But this didn’t let down the stay, was still good

the quirky character of the place - I feel sorry for establishments like this at the moment with the current economical climate. there were only 3guests here so the heating wasn't on but the rooms had electric heaters - I stayed when we had that cold blitz before Xmas - I couldn't complain because the empath in me understood and respect the place for doing what they could to keep o affordable
food was lovely in the morning -

Lovely hotel set in beautiful grounds, the breakfast was brilliant, quick service and fresh as was the evening meal we had. The manager Dan and his wife (can't recall her name), were super friendly and helpful.
Room on the small side and shower was unpredictable.

Good location, nice building exterior with great potential if fully refurbished inside. Friendly staff.
Tired room and bathroom - needs investment for refurbishment due to dated interior. Poor shower in bathroom. Room could have been cleaner.

Nothing was at fault everything was satisfactory.

The staff were welcoming and helpful. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable with two armchairs. The bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was very good including as much coffee as we wanted. The hotel was in a pleasant situation just outside the Lake District National Park and a shortish car journey into the mountains.
The only problem we had was that we couldn't get the shower over the bath to work, but we reported it so that it could be attended to before the next guests arrived.

Nothing.
