Relax at the Cumberland

The staff reception were very nice and helpful. The Restaurant staff were just great and friendly. And the food was gorgeous. I had different meals each time. Starters to puddings. A bit greedy of me, but the food was so lovely I couldn't help but eat more of it.

I can't say I found anything negative to say

Falls far short on expectations and too expensive for what you get

Location was excellent, not too far from town and a short walk to the beach. The pool area was nice. Food wasn’t too bad but fairly expensive. The staff were great- especially the girls on reception.

The common areas- corridors, stairways, lounge furniture, decor- are in serious need of renovation. Carpets are dirty, badly stained, and ripped in some areas on the stairs. Lounge furniture is dirty and uncomfortable- stained threadbare fabric. Decor is dated and very cheap and tacky- red net curtains!! The exterior of the hotel needs extensive work and repainting.

Lovely,Friendly and all

Booking.com messed up our booking with the breakfast so had to pay twice but apart from that the food was brilliant and the service too,great staffing all round.

Esperava mais do hotel.

Funcionário do restaurante (Eduardo) foi atencioso e educado, precisam de mais funcionários como ele.

Mal cheiro nos corredores e quartos, apenas 1 elevador que comportam 3 pessoas, fomos em 4 pessoas então sempre tínhamos que esperar.

Really happy with my stay, great hotel, great food. Lovely staff! Would come again and recommend!

Great location. Lovely hotel, room was comfortable, the staff were excellent, everyone we encountered was so friendly. Outside pool was lovely and if a bit cold you had the option for an indoor pool at the hotel next door.

The shower was not very powerful.

It was a pleasant stay but I expected a 4 star hotel to be something special.

The staff were welcoming. The room and public areas were clean. The outdoor pool was lovely.

Our room was very small. Breakfast was ok. No fresh fruit. The outside area was a bit shoddy. The area around the pool was very cluttered . No room to move . too many barriers around different areas.

Want refund as this is false advertisement

False advertisement - There is no gym, just a treadmill and cycle in basement with no ventilation ! There is no swimming pool outdoor, no changing facilities, This is false advertisement. The room provided was like a horrible box not a compact single room. Not worth the money. There are many nice places to live nearby.

Lovely sea views. Great location. Great for visiting the town.

Some areas a little tired. Breakfast good. Set menu sufficient and well presented.

Noting average age of guests. Sofas, easy chairs appeared difficult for some.

2 night stay

The room and staff were great, all areas clean and tidy. Air con superb, food very good.

The only real gripe was that the room was superb and clean,the windows and outside door to the balcony/terrace looked like they were very dirty and not been cleaned in a long time.

Fabulous room and view. Very good breakfast. Very polite and helpful staff.

A bit far from town, but we knew that. Balcony had not been properly cleaned. Balcony could do with a refurb.

Good value for a short break

Breakfast was good but not enough fresh fruit. Dinner was also good, only issue was I was informed that it would be in one restaurant to find out it was in another due to bookings and I wasn’t informed so felt a bit confused to where to go. Staff are amazing and very friendly and sociable at all levels. The hotel should be very proud of their staff and the input they provide. Bed a pillows were far too soft for me, which lead to an uncomfortable sleep and neck ache. Amenities are good and coffee excellent. Bar staff very helpful. I would certainly recommend for a short or weekend trip. Toiletries in bathroom lovely.

Don’t waste your money

Staff are extremely rude! Place is filthy and very outdated. Car park is rammed and cost £12 a night. The lift is so small so it is not ideal if you have a pram. I would never return

Pool was Fabulous although you have to be quick to grab a sun lounger especially on those hot days. lunch was good

The room was nice , but felt improvements are needed. The shower was awful, shower head needs cleaning to allow flow out

The bar area was very nice, dining room very clean&tidy. Could not fault the staff, they do a amazing job.

Parking lack of it. Ending up in suncliff got stuck in parking space 30 mins until owner of another car came move hers. Then ended up on road outside.

Disappointed at how this place is nowdays

Location

So outdated and dilapidated. A thin veneer of decoration masking a tired building that needs significant makeover to make it attractive in todays world. A real shame as location is great and pool facilities are decent too. Staff were friendly and amenable, so no fault there. Simply over priced for a standard that can’t compete with premier inn.

Best hotel we’ve stayed at yet. Excellent would definitely stay again

We had a garden room and the views were outstanding. The staff are excellent and nothing was too much trouble. When we arrived Mark on reception was very informative about the area and amenities within the hotel. We were half board and the evening meals were delicious and beautifully presented.

Amazing location and food, but hotel needs updating it's decor.

Amazing location, it has rooms with balcony and an outdoor pool which is all you need on a hot day! The food in their A La Carte restaurant was Amazing and staff really nice!

The hotel needs updating for it's 4 star status (I am also comparing it with the 4stars I stayed in) , the balcony looks messy, the carpet in the room is full of stains , the decoration pillows also full of old stains, the heater the towels was full of scale, the TV was difficult to turn on. The people staying above us must have walked their 10000 steps at night as we could hear it as they were walking next to us and the homeless person staying in front of the hotel screamed all night and kept me awake, no one else seemed to be too bothered by this,but this is not the hotels fault.

The hotel is old and scary

Restaurant is the only place you want to visit. Great food, good service, excellent dinner.

The hotel is very old from 1930, you could imagine how old the facilities are. The building itself is very old, with outdated lobby, lift, scary hallway and very dated rooms. We stayed at the ocean view rooms, the view is excellent, but room is too old and not presentable at all, not worth 250 pounds for a night. Rooms are very dirty as well, a lot of stains on the bed sheets and towels. Please avoid staying in this hotel. However, the restaurant is beyond our expectation, good foods, great service, I will go back to the restaurant but not the hotel rooms.

It was only a short stay but I next time I would stay elsewhere.

Staff was helpful and polite. The double room with the sea view was nice.

The single rooms were small. There was only one, very small lift, not suitable for wheelchairs. The breakfast finished early. The bar closed early.

The location was nice, local to walk to beach and shops.

The staff I had an emergency, my earring got stuck inside my ear, asked for help at reception, and was completely ignored. A lovely lady called Louise helped and managed to get it out. What a lovely girl. Also want to point out the manager asked Louise to keep her children quite. How awful for her, show some compassion for the poor girl, all on her own, disgraceful.

The hotel was well situated and the pool area was nice

The parking situation is ridiculous apart from having to pay £12 per day if booking with booking.com and not the hotel directly and being told we could park in sister hotels the system is not joined to the other hotels and we now have been told we will be getting a parking fine. The service in the breakfast room was very slow - having to wait ages to be served. The decor is very dated and my bedroom had a bathroom which had two steep steps inside which was very odd

Too hot in the room but great location

location was amazing but the parking is terrible. Asked to pay for parking upfront but the 2nd night I stayed I had to park on the road as all the spaces were full.

Parking and the rooms were far too Hot. Had an air con unit that didn't go below 16c and didn't cool the room at all, had to ask for a fan but even that didn't sort the issue of the temperature out.
