About this cabin rental
This area is as close to Alaska as you can get in the Lower 48 States. Due to the elevation (about 7400), the temperatures are similar, the wildlife viewing is as good or better. There are even permanent glaciers above us high in the Beartooth Mountains. The small town and residents remind me of the show, Northern Exposure. It is remote, wild and rustic here.
People who love wildlife and trout fishing (Clark’s Fork River and the numerous mountain lakes). This is the Park entrance nearest to the Lamar River Valley – and the Soda Butte Creek Valley – and the Beartooth Pass/Absaroka Wilderness area (outside the Park). We have had moose, deer, bear – black and grizzly in our yard. Wolves are often seen in the valley. (No, you don’t always see them. If you did, they would change the name to “Yellowstone Zoo”.) This is one of the premier areas of the world for wildlife viewing. The TV, internet, the shower are all extras. You realize that you are renting proximity to the wildlife – not a luxurious cabin. Many of our happiest renters are repetitive park visitors. (“Can we book for next year?” “Can we buy the cabin?”) You are by far the majority of our clients.

Great place to stay

Loved our stay here. Great location, rustic cabin but had all the creature comforts we could want.
Perfect jumping off point to the Lamar Valley.
Only regret is that we did not stay longer.

The cabin wasn’t bad..pretty cozy actually. But there were cobwebs everywhere (only one or two spiders). The shower needs a deep cleaning, and the mattresses upstairs were like sleeping on boards. I didn’t mind the mattress in the main bedroom, but it gave my husband a backache. The dryer needs maintenance (squeaks like crazy for the first severe minutes). I didn’t see any mouse droppings. Cabin is in a great location…a 10-minute walk to Silver Gate. It’s a fairly quiet area, and we felt safe the whole time.

While the location of this cabin to the NE Entrance of Yellowstone was great, the cabin was not. There was nothing wrong with the cabin itself but with a little updating and major cleaning in and around the cabin it could have been great. When you pay that much per night for a cabin you should be able to expect a clean place to stay. For instance, there was mouse droppings in the utensil drawer, spider webs EVERYWHERE, dirty sheets, and dirty coverings on the one piece of furniture in the living room. The living room needs more than just a dirty couch to sit on and not the two lawn chairs that are there. The loft area desperately needs new beds also. This is our fourth time to vacation in Yellowstone and the worst experience with a VRBO rental. We hate to leave a bad review, but cleanliness goes a long way!

Silver Gate, like most areas adjacent to an exceptional park, is getting spiffed up!
New owners at the Cafe are making a great start- menu remains pretty much the same- food is very good, large portions!
New to us is Great Wulff with the Hemingway theme- an excellent sophisticated menu and thoughtful, well stocked
bar.
Cabin is far enough back from busy #212-no road noise, comfortable beds surrounded by forest.

The location is perfect. The property meet our needs for the amount of time we were there. Hot tub was not up slightly disappointed. Dryer took forever to dry clothes. Over all not bad.

Loved the in person property check in and interaction. Cabin was beautiful and comfy. Needs a little more cleaning top to bottom, otherwise had everything we needed. We would come back again, great location for Lamar Valley.

John our host is a wealth of knowledge about the area and was readily available.
This place is such a hidden gem.
Easily our favorite vacation spot

Nice cabin with everything you need. John the caretaker was very helpful. We had ants, he sprayed and we put ant traps out and got that taken care of. John told us all of the great places to go. We had a great time. Go see the waterfall!

We had a wonderful time, again. The cabin was in a great spot just minutes from the north east entrance. Cabin was very tidy and fully furnished as indicated. We couldn’t be more happy.

Poor communication
The host only responded to one email out of many sent and no phone calls returned. The welcome mat was non existent. So filthy had to sleep in our car for a night so host could have a second chance to make the cabin presentable. Which did not happen. Would not recommend.

Great place in a great location
First of all, Silver Gate is the best locale outside of YNP for access into the NE area. This property is beautiful, very homey and comfortable, super convenient, and very clean. Highly recommended!!!!

Home away from home!
Really great spot close to Cooke City, Silvergate, and northeast entrance to Yellowstone! Cooke City and Silvergate are very small and have some stores for amenities but closest places for grocery shopping is in Cody or Gardiner.. Property manager was very friendly, helpful, and gave us tips about the area and the park. Cell phone service is basically non existent, cabin has wifi but that's about it. Depending on time of year US-212 HWY may be closed. Cabin has full kitchen with dishes! 😊 Beautiful view of mountains and wildlife outside your door. Will definitely be coming back!

Yellowstone trip
Great location. Abundance of wildlife. Some from deck. Peaceful and quiet. Property manager was very helpful and friendly. He suggested things to do outside the park. I hope you like friendly dogs!

An enjoyable place to stay
The location of this cabin is amazing! It made getting to Yellowstone each day easy! We would agree with other reviews that the cabin has a slight cleanliness issue with cobwebs on the lighting fixtures and hanging from the ceiling. The futon beds in the loft are not comfortable and could be replaced.
We also experienced laundry in the washer when we went to use it, and knobs from the dryer were missing with pliers left to control the dryer. This made it difficult to understand the setting you were using.
A binder with cabin information would be great. We did not meet the property manager. It would have been helpful to know who he was and to have some questions answered, like where do we take the trash and where are extra trash bags.
There were no dish cloths or hand soap and the sponges left in the cabin were at the point of being unusable so we had to buy our own sponge and hand soap.
The handle on the shower looked like it could break at any time. The shower functioned, but there was worry that the damaged handle would fall off.
As others have said be cautious of the platform the stove is on, this is a toe killer. We eventually learned our lesson.
Overall, this was a very enjoyable place to stay. A few minor changes would make this a 5 star stay.

Jim and Sue at yellowstone
We were quite happy with the cabin overall. It is cute and a suberb location. John, the on-site manager is very friendly and helpful. I would suggest an Information binder for your guests, it would have eliminated me tracking John down. Be careful of the base under the centrally located wood burning stove, it is east to trip over!

Disgusted!!!!
Property was not what we expected, very disgusting!! The property manager had his personal laundry in the dryer. Not only were there wet sheets but his underwear and socks. We turned on the dryer which was crammed full and had to run it for 2 hours trying to get his things dry so we could get his laundry out of the dryer. Even worst, the shower had someone's personal bar of soap left on the tub, hair in shower, curtain nasty, shower head falling apart and very low water pressure. The toilet was black in the bowl from not being cleaned for a very, very long time. After two hours of cleaning and a full bottle of clorox we were able to use this house. The bed sheets were very wrinkled that were on the bed and we were not even sure they had been laundered. The toaster oven in the kitchen had so much grease and crumbs burnt in it that even scrubbing did nothing for it, unusable! Refrigerator had someone's personal food and drinks left in it. Rugs looked like they had not been vacuumed. We suspect the property manager was living in this cabin while remodeling the one next door. It was late when we arrived at cabin to find all this out and did not want to stay in this disaster of a house but had no choice being everything else in this little town was booked. Next morning we told property manager about all these issues and he said "you must have high standards". We asked him to contact owner and let him know situation and that we were not going to stay another night and were leaving and wanted a refund. The owner refunded what money he could but the bulk of the money was to be refunded by VRBO. After a three way conversation we were assured of a refund from VRBO that we have yet to receive after over a month.

Lamar valley home base
This was an amazing cabin — we love Lamar valley in Yellowstone and this is a perfect home base. The cabin was extremely well stocked. Whatever we needed was provided by John the property manager. He was the perfect host and we will be back.

Disappointed
Rustic cabin with fun loft design surrounded by trees in a beautiful mountain valley. Disappointed in the general cleanliness of the property and some maintenance appears needed. Surprised by the washer and dryer
( both full of laundry and lacking knobs) and coffee grounds in coffee maker. Had significant issue with keys and door locks. General lack of check in/ out instructions and communication compared to most other VRBO experiences.

Good place to stay near park
No issues. Worked well for us. Proximity to park is great.

Great location for accessing the park and Beartooth pass Very friendly host. Nice early morning views of mountain great for enjoying coffee before you head out

Rustic Charm outside of Yellowstone
The cabin was clean and very homey. The queen BR was great, the 2 double beds (futons) in the loft were good for kiddos. John (property manager) was always available and provided a lot of information about the area. Cooke City and Silver Gate were great little communities and locals were very friendly and helpful. Entrance to the park was very close, and the Lamar River Valley provided LOTS of wildlife viewing! However I didn't realize the park was so big and that it would take an hour or two each morning to drive to any of the other attractions. My bad I know, for not researching more, but worth noting.

Very close to East entrance, very remote
Loved the location, check was a little difficult due to little to know cell service. The place was clean, still had laundry in the washing machine so the wife re washed them, dried and folded. Cabin was a little difficult to find once you turned in the driveway.

Silver Gate Cabin on Hwy 212
The cabin was in excellent shape. Clean and beautifully decorated. Big spaces inside and out. We enjoyed all of the photography displayed throughout out the cabin. I hope to be able to book for future trips to Yellowstone. Loved it!

Great Cabin in the Woods outside Yellowstone
We wanted a cabin outside the Yellowstone Gate in Montana and targeted this area. The cabin was really good and the location was exactly what we wanted. The bathroom was not clean and the overall appearance of the cabin needs improvement.

7 day trip to Yellowstone
Nice cozy cabin off the beaten path. Quiet location nestled in the woods just outside of the Northeast entrance to Yellowstone. We enjoyed our stay there and definitely looking forward to staying there again.

Great for Lamar Valey
We chose to stay in Silver Gate since it was the closest place to Yellowstone's Lamar Valley. The cabin was a little dirty, silverware had to be washed before use, but the cabin was in decent condition, there were plenty of dishes. The pictures tell the story of the cabin well. The deck was not swept and snow removed, nor was the hot tub set up, but that may have been because we were early in the season. We loved having the friendly dog come visit every day!

Great place, great location
This cabin is between Cook City and Silver Gate and very close to the entrance to the park. It was a lovely place to hang out on a rainy afternoon and had a comfortable bed from which to start our early mornings. We would definitely come again.

true cabin experience
Amazing location! Nice open living/kitchen area. Great decks all around the cabin. The wifi isn't the strongest, but we were there to explore the area, not sit in the cabin. Thanks for sharing your beautiful cabin location.

We were looking for a cabin and that is exactly what we got. It was in a great location and the person who managed the property was absolutely great!! We would definitely stay here again.

Cute log cabin
This was a great location while we discovered all that Yellowstone had to offer. Cabin was just as described. We were visited by a bison, a fox, chipmunks, squirrel, and what looked like a mink during our stay.
