We had an amazing stay at Villa Altea! Gustavo was super helpful in answering any of our questions and made sure we were comfortable throughout our stay. The villa itself is huge - big living spaces and plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms - perfect for our large group of friends and family. It's a traditional home, and it has everything you'd need for a Dominican-style vacation. If you want to stay in an Americanized resort with a/c, everyone around you speaking English, etc. this might not be the place for you, but it is IDEAL if you enjoy the culture. Examples of things that you wouldn't get just anywhere are we were able to buy freshly caught fish from a neighbor to have a fish fry one night, the kids walked to the field at the end of the street and played pickup baseball with the locals, and another local fisherman helped us catch crabs along the shoreline. The pool is nice, the yard is big, decks are awesome for hanging out, and despite staying in the summer we weren't hot thanks to the ocean breeze. And I might be rambling now, but it deserves mentioning there's a calmado/small store a couple of houses away - other private villas we've rented are isolated so you have to drive if you forgot anything. You're only 5 minutes off the main road, and only 20-25 minutes to most touristy things (zip line, water fall, city of Samana, etc.).
It's right on the ocean, but unfortunately garbage from a river outlet does wash up (not sure if it's seasonal, but it was definitely there when we visited). Bring water shoes so you can still walk the shoreline!

Pros:
The house is large with three floors. The main floor has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The second floor has 3 bedrooms and two bathrooms. The ground floor has a little kitchenette with a refrigerator and 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The pool is nice perfect for children. It has a nice yard with grass were kid can play. There is a nice view of the beach and the porch is big and the sea breeze is nice all day and night.
I booked this property from July 1-5, 2021. The property is big but dated. The location is quiet. If you want to escape the noise of the city and be without any technology and you don't mind a dated house this is your place.
Cons:
The house does not have air conditioning, there is only hot water in in the third floor. the main floor and ground floor do not have hot water. There are only old fans in the bedrooms and in hot day only blow Hot air, although there is a nice sea breeze at night the doors have to be close since the property does not have a security fence. The furniture is very dated and the bed are very uncomfortable. The bathrooms have no curtains, floor mats, shower door or curtains, no toiletries, only one hand towel per bathroom and one roll of toilet paper per stay. The house has only two small towels per bedroom and one hand towel per bathroom. The bathroom floor is very slippery. The beds are full size, not queen size. If you are over 10 years old bring your own towels. The bed only have a thing bed sheet. There's only parking for one car. there is not railings on the steps that lead to the pool and beach. If you have any mobility problems this place is not ideal. The kitchen have some plates, 5 mugs. Bring your own paper towels they are not provided.
In conclusion, If you don't mind taking cold showers or walking up to the third floor for hot water and showering without a shower curtain or door this is your place. Make sure to bring your own towels, toiletries, blankets, beach towels.
